great rooms
from nick3368
After reading several reviews, we booked this hotel for New Year. Booked through Freedom Direct and flying from Newcastle via Manchester (which we were only told about a couple of days before, after we enquired why the flight took 7hrs). The apartments are exellent, clean, roomy, modern and everything you could ask for from a modern hotel, especially the shower. The breakfast was ok, same everyday, the pool was heated and perfect for this time of year. Straight opposite the hotel is the Bamira restuarant which is good, anything else is more than a half hour walk away, over hills and down steep steps. Like the bar the beach does not exist, not unless you go elswhere, which sums up this hotel, it would be good somwhere else but its location is crap. There is a supermarket over the road but it's overpriced and check sell by dates as 3 times we were sold out of date food. The staff at the hotel were helpful and polite, except the vertically challenged barman, who couldnt wait to go home from the moment he arrived! Nice hotel but not for the living!
A Huge Disappointment
from englishrose_uk
Booked through Freedom Direct. Advertised as luxurious spa hotel. Close to ammenities, right on the sandy beach, all inclusive. It was a long, lonely steep uphill walk back from any nearby restaurants or bars, and a good 15 min cab ride. The beach near the hotel is just huge pebbles, not easy to walk on and definately not a sunbathing beach. The hotel has no entertainment, no real ammenities, there is absolutely nothing to do there day or night unless you want to pay extra to use the 'spa' or 'indoor pool' which is not clearly stated in the 'all inclusive' package. The bar such as it is ,is just in the resturaunt, as is the cafe and the tv lounge (which has no english channels) and it closes by 10pm, so if you are looking to get your moneys worth with the drinks in the evening you will be disappointed. The food is disgusting, my daughter and I ate salad for lunch and dinner when we stayed in, mostly we ate out at extra expense. We noticed left overs from meals being served at the next meal. The sun loungers are filthy and covered in stains. The rooms are nice and clean, but unless you want to stay in your room there is no reason to visit this hotel at all. Food is a big part of our holiday, and we were thoroughly ripped off!!!
great for a relaxing young family hotel
from buzzandwoody
December 17th -31st 2007 Family with 2 children 3 and 8 - read all the reviews before the holiday so knew what to expect - lovely clean hotel - lovely rooms - when we arrived was given a room on first floor but straight away asked if this had a sea view - receptionist changed to 2nd floor. apparently family with young children are given 1st floor aparments but since we did not need a cot she was happy to move us. We were bed and breakfast and I have to say was very happy with it , good selection of bacon egg bean frankfurter sausage toast jams bread meats cereals orange juices biscuits etc. Put it this way I had full english and 4 slices of toast for two weeks and very happy, my husband had museli every day and was satisfied. The comments from other clients was they were not impressed with HB/FB/All Inclusive, they said was not value for money. We found the hotel staff very friendly and loved the children. The heated pool broke down half way through the holiday so my daughter missed the pool(but never the less she could swim the full length of the pool before we left) by this time it had been fixed. The indoor pool is connected to the spa facility and is chargeable and children are not allowed to use these facilities. Plenty of sunbeds and rooftop terrace. Very quiet location but turn left up past hotel and follow orange footpath and top of the hill which takes you into San Augustin lovely walk on the beach front - try loopys restaurant excellent food and very friendly. For a quiet relaxing holiday We would recommend this hotel - if you have teenagers or looking for active nightlife then this hotel is not for you and it would be a shame to spoil the reputation of the hotel - it is not there fault it does not have discos around - In our opinion we are more concerned with cleanliness - if the room is clean then you can put up with a little walk or taxi ride to find night life. Put it this way we will hopefully be going again this december.
Nice hotel. Not for kids though.

We stayed here the last week of September 2007. We arrived, after a huge delay at Gatwick due to a Thomas Cook aircraft issue, at aroun 5am. We were greeted by a Spanish girl who spoke VERY little English. We just handed over bits of paper and told her our names, eventually we got handed the keys to our room and a piece of card with the hotel address (handy for later on by the way) and the times of breakfast. We were situated on the 3rd floor, room 307 to be exact. The rooms themselves are fairly modern, with a seperate bedroom containing 2 single beds pushed together. Plenty of storage in the form of bedside tables and fitted wardrobe. The bathroom was adequate, sink, toilet and shower. The built in hairdryer was handy, according to the girlfriend. The living room/kitchen was large with a breakfast bar and a chair that was obviously too low to eat at it. The sofa is small and uncomfortable and there was a seperate chair. The balcony doors open up to a fairly impressive view of the sea. The baloncy had brown plastic garden furnature...that get very hot as the sun in on the balconies all morning. The cleanliness of the rooms was questionable. It was quite dusty and I found 2 toenail clippings on the floor....ew! The TV is ok, although if you speak English only you'll have to get used to Sky News and CNN. For the German, Spanish and Dutch speakers amongst us you'll have a varied choice. The pool and pool area is nice. It gets the sun for a large part of the day, but when the sun goes over the hotel you can retire to the roof area. The pool is lovely to cool off, not very big but adequate. Sun lounges line the outside of the pool area and due to the quiteness of the hotel there was never any trouble getting one. The food was dire to say the least. We chose to eat out in Playa Del Ingles because the one time we ate in the restaurant it was unimpressive. Breakfast is a choice of the spanish equivalent of the full english. Which is salty bacon and hot dog sausages. You can also have cereal, fruit and continental breakfast. Again, we decided to have breakfast elsewhere, even though we'd paid for it. Taxi's are the easiest way to travel, and very prompt. Just ask whoever is on reception to book you one and it'll be there in a couple of minutes. DON'T GET A TAXI TO LAS PALMAS...it cost us 100 euros round trip...not impressed! All in all it was an ok stay. Apart from the 2 families who deided to bring kids. This hotel is not a place to bring kids, the little baby next door was just broed and cryed all the time and Captain England ad his family spent the holiday shouting at his kids cos they were just running around with boredom and creating havoc. I would recommend this hotel for a quiet stay and a good chill out. The beach is rubbish but the golden sands of Playa Del Ingles are only a short 5 euro taxi ride away.
A Nice hotel, but wheres the bar?!
from sufcgazzab
Me and my Girlfirend arrived in Gran Canaria in late August, due to be going to the Sun Club hotel in San Augustin. Arrived and was told that we would be moving hotel due to a water leak! We had been moved to the Marina Sol hotel. Was greeted by a spanish lady who could speak only very little english. All we understood was our room number! Got to our room and must say they are very nice. It was about 3 in the morning and the hotel had prepaired 2 chicken salad dinners along wiv a yogurt and bread roll for us in the fridge! Large bedroom and wadrobe, modern and clean bathroom and spacious lounge. Complete wiv a tidy kitchen and balcony over looking the swimming pool and the sea. The next morning we got up for breakfast and at first were pleasently suprised, nice restaurant with a help your self food area. Food wasnt too bad for breakfasts, there wasnt much of a selection and the juices tasted horrible! We were meant to be all inclusive but were only half board, so had that changed. We was not told where anything in the hotel was and didnt have a rep. There were mainly spanish at the hotel, with very little english and some german. The beach near us was VERY pebbly, well it was actually more like large rocks, so going to the beach was not going to happen. There are no restaurants or bars in the area, and only 1 supermarket which seems to be closed a lot! We were not impressed wiv the location as we were expecting to be in San Augustin when we were actually in Playa de Aguila. San Augustin was about 30mins walk away. We ended up spending everyday by the pool which to be honest wasnt bad at all, untill the spanish arrived! Nice and relaxing by the pool though with sufficient sunbeds and small pool. At times we found there were only about 4 other people around the pool and u would have the pool all to yourself! Also on the roof of the hotel they have a large sun bed area where you can sun bathe, afta 3 o clock the sun goes from around the pool so we would make our way to the roof to carry on catching the rays! We were normally the only ones up there too! The hotel is definatly not an all inclusive hotel, there is a restaurant, and a bar for the waiters, not really for the customers. To get a drink at this place we had to bang the stalls on the floor to get someone over to serve us. As the days went on the food was very boring and repitive, we had pasta, chips and tomato soup for most of our stay! Dont mean to put you off because the food wasnt bad, jus boring and made us need the toilet a lot! One of the waiters, mad bloke, we think was spiking our drinks! Some times they would taste fine other times would taste horrible! The receptionist staff were friendly when they wanted to be! Although ringing a taxi was as easy as anything, ask the receptionists to ring 1 and by the time you walk outside its there! We ate out 3 times while on holiday, twice in San Augustin which seems a nice area. Was 30mins walk away and about 3 euros in a taxi. Reccommend the restaurant named Loopys!! Beach is ok there but very windy and black sand. We also went in to Playa de Ingles a few times which is the lively area of the island. Lots of clubs and bars which was good to see. Although as soon as you enter the center you are constantly asked by bar representitives to get you into thier bar for a drink. Can be annoying but funny. The clubs dont open till about 1 in the morning there either. But the bars ok and happy hour is all night! Its about 5 euros in a taxi there. Back at the hotel, the place basically shuts down at 9:30, the bar shuts and all thats open is a pool table, which dosent work anyway! So you were left to go to your room or sit around the pool on sun beds! Our last day came and we had to check out at 12 on the saturday. Our flight wasnt untill 4 on sunday morning! We enquired about a curtosy room on the friday and were told we could have one. The saturday came and we were then told no we can have a curtosy room and if we want a shower we have to have one in the pool showers! We went to have lunch and was then told we checked out at 12 so we not have to pay! So on the last day we had 2 go to playa de ingles to have lunch and dinner which we couldnt really afford. We were also not able to have drinks without paying. And to be honest the drinks and food at the hotel were not worth paying for. And as there was no where to sit in the hotel after half 9 we had to sit around the pool until the early hours of sunday morning. Overall our stay wasnt bad, nice hotel, just put off by the restaurant/bar and location.
Clean Hotel, Quiet Area
from Lesmonte
New and very clean apartment. Most secure front door I've ever seen. Air con worked well. Hotel staff were friendly, breakfasts were good, evening meals were OK. Pool area was nice and quiet and we never had a problem getting a lounger or parasol. Area was very quiet. Not really any bars or restaurants to visit, but Playa del Ingles is only a <€5 taxi away, so we went there most evenings. Beach is stoney at St. Augustin, but we spent most of our time by the pool. Probably not for those that want to go partying every day and night, but perfect for a quiet peaceful holiday by the pool. I personally recommend the 'El Gaucho' restaurant in Playa del Ingles for a wondefull steak.
Good value for money
from travellerBucks
Returned yesterday from a week's break at this hotel. We were a party of 3 - my husband and myself and our 23 year old daughter. Booked the hotel direct and managed to get reasonable flights considering it was during Easter holidays. We found the hotel to be excellent value for money. Could not fault the rooms - separate bedroom with plenty of storage space, bathroom with large shower (no bath) and kitchenette with good sized fridge, two ring halogen hob and seating area with sofa bed and chairs, etc. Also a balcony with view of the pool and the sea (over a few rooftops). We went on a bed and breakfast basis, and buffet breakfast was o.k. Hot and cold choices, e.g. cheese and cold meats, bacon, fried and hardboiled eggs, rolls, toast, croissants, pastries, cereals and dried fruits etc. We all found something to our taste, but buy some jam or marmalde from a supermarket if you like those with your toast as the hotel ones weren't so good. The hotel was absolutely spotless, exceptionally so. Quite a modern hotel and well maintained. Pool area quite small but we always found it to be fairly quiet with people coming and going during the course of the day. Spent a couple of days just lounging by the pool reading, etc. Staff at hotel were very helpful and friendly, and sorted out any problems that we encountered, e.g. losing Sky News on our tv!! The only downside is that there is nowhere close by to go for an eveing meal or drink, without venturing into San Augustin or Play del Ingles. We didn't try the hotel's eveing buffet meal as the restaurant and bar close at 9.30 p.m. and although we didn't intend it to be a party holiday, we wanted to eat at 8 or so and then enjoy a walk and a cocktail after dinner. The area surrounding the hotel is mainly apartments - there were a couple of restaurants attached to these but one was closed and the other always looked closed - we were told because it was early in the season. However, a taxi into San Augustin cost 3 euros and there are a handful of restaurants there, but we tended to go into Playa Del Ingles in the evenings (5 euror taxi ride). As a resort, we all pretty much disliked Playa del Inglis as it has seen better days but it was fairly quiet and not as rowdy as we had expected and there are a couple of good places to eat, including two steak house type restaurants, El Guacho and El Ranchero. We had good meals in both, bearing in mind that my husband is a vegetarian who eats fish and our daughter is very hard to please!! There is also a Greek restaurant called the Greek Village. Overall we had a good break, and found this hotel to be in a quiet area which was an ideal base for seeing the sights and exploring Gran Canaria.
Nice stay at Marinasol

Excellent hotel, quiet and friendly
from Masturbator
This is a quiet, friendly, clean hotel. It is only a bus or taxi ride away from beautiful sandy beach. Rooms were well equipped and beautifully clean. Pool was pleasant clean and not too busy Staff were extremely helpful I went here for quiet relaxing autumn break with two other friends. The holiday was everything we hoped for. weather fantastic. Hotel excellent value for money . The area was quiet but not too far from main resort of Playa del Ingles.
nice accomodation
from ricky2323
this is a little gem, but not for teenagers, nor for elderly. the reason for this is its location which is extemely quiet, with very few pubs, and only a few restaurants. so what do you get for your money well the rooms are new, clean, good beds, all have a balcony with a view of the pool and higher up the sea . the pool is fresh water, so it is warm not like some hotels where it is so cold you can not use them. great for 5-12 years olds the buffet breakfast, is excellent they have everything, fruit, cold meat, cheese, bacon, eggs, musroons tea coffee etc now if you have children, well the smart thing is to dine at the same place for 7euro a person,(i think they do discount for children, but dont quote on that point) for that you have a buffet of starters, soups, or salads, followed by a assortment of main meals, sweets, juices, and if you like they will do you wine but that would be extra, but still very reasonable. going back to the location, if you want to be by the beach then taxis are plentyful and cheap, a taxi to play de ingles is only 5 euro. what every you do take a walk across the malpalmas beach with the sandy dunes, note pick a non-windy day. getting to the hotel by taxi from the airport will cost you 25 euro.
