it was our second holiday to this hotel so we were really looking forward to our stay. It was really, really hot! There were 13 of us in total youngest being 10 months and oldest 51 ! The food was much better than in 2006, they seem to be catering more for the brits than the russians NOW! I do have to say that 10 from our group were ill with tummy problems, some of which were really bad!!! we took our 10 month old to the onsite doc who told us it was some gastric virus. he charged 50 euros plus medicine £6. We were told to keep him out of the pool and out of aircon ! It did seem to work within hours! The supermarkets in the area were a major rip off! They make their prices up according to what they think they can get out of you, we actually witnessed them doing it! One of the things that had changed the most was the staff , they were so friendly in 2006, but this time about 1/3 of them were really rude to you if you didn't tip them EVERY TIME you asked them for anything! I don't mind tipping for somthing thats deserved but they really did expect it all the time. I am so sad as this held so many good memories from our first holiday there. I don't think i'll be trying it again for a few years.

nice hotel. very clean nice pools and thats about it that was nice

Food for awful, evening meal was like a school dinner hall and you had to fight for a table.

Evening entertainment was 2 strange people singing terribly this was the same every night.

Had to fight for a sunbed round the pool. you could always get one on the rock beach but it was far to hot down there.

Moved to the rotana hotel after 3days which was heaven.

Having read some of the other reports we attended the resort with some apprehension, but were we surprised, the rooms were clean and more than adequate for use, the air conditioning was the best we have ever had in this country or abroad( with the temp in the 40s needed.), The restaurants were good and provided a good choice each day for each meal, at no meal time did we find that their was nothing to choose from, the staff were helpful and polite at all times, even the hardworking little man by the activity pool who seemed to work endlessly from 7.30am until gone 8pm, the only regret I have is that i did not stay for two weeks, very good value for money. A big well donde to all the staff and management at the SUNRISE ISLAND

the hotel was brilliant i went with my boyfreind in october and it was still really warm the pools and the service their are amazing but the entertainment really let me down i was back in the hotel by like 10.30 of an evening so it can be boring but you can take a taxi into the town centre for around £6 we only went for a week and it was just enough we went scuba diving quadbikeing through the desert to meet the bedouin people and of course snorkeling wich most people wher doing it was fantastic i would reccommend it.

As far as the saying goes " you get what you pay for ".My wife and I SPENT 11 NIGHTS in this hotel and I CAN HONESTLY SAY I got more than I PAID for.The location, facilities, layout and food excellent and I AM A FUSSY EATER.The service etc. was excellent and will be back in October.People COMPLAIN of cold food, in some cases this is true because the lids are not closed after serving themselves. The rooms are large and maybe the furniture is a little dated along with the bathroom decor which might not be to everyones liking but as far as we were concerned it was OK.The staff are very polite and obliging. As for the Russians so what they probably say the same things about the British. Had no hassle FROM ANYBODY.Some people have said the food was repetitive but how can it not be with so much choice.

The best holiday we have ever had. Myself, my hubby, my 15 year old and 1 year old travelled together for week and it suited every one of us.

The hotel was great, although it is a large hotel, it didnt feel too big, neither did it feel busy even though we were there at October half term.

Staff, food, entertainment were great. The rooms were 'ok', the facilities were fab.

The locals are the nicest anywhere and so trustworthy.

As a family we loved the entertainment in the 'amphitheatre' at the back of the pool, but probably would not have known about it had we not chatted with a young family on our first night who were off home later that day.

The beach was beautiful, but busy, tipping will help you to have access to sunbeds pretty quick. The watersports are brilliant, very well priced and great fun.

The hotel, the resort, everything was lovely, we cant wait to go back!

I would first like to point out that I won this holiday from a prize draw therefore my perspective of this holiday does not take account of the cost of the flight/hotel.

I arrived during the quieter season, so not many people were there which was nice. Temperature was at best about 22 deg C so was pretty good.

On arrival to the hotel from what was a very hellish airport arrival experience, be ready to have 10 flights all come in at once and then usher you into one hall where there are about 10 queues going to one place!!! The receptionist was extremely friendly by greeting us with "Welcome home" which definitely made me feel all nice.

The booked a twin room for me and a friend, be aware that 5 star is a little bit of an over statement but it was comfortable and very clean, with fresh linen every day and courteous staff. Give em a nice tip in the beginning and they're your friend for life!

Facilities - we were there for a week, there are definitely things to do including a number of swimming pools, although at this time only the main pool was popular as it was heated. You also get a number of free perks including a free 20 minute back rub, gym, free meal at one of the fancy restaurants, haircut, intro diving session and free drinks at the bars. There were a number of activities during the day but to fair most were focused on families than for non-couple adults. For those who wish to go and are not going as a family group, dont expect this place to provide everything, definitely try and explore.

The hotel has its own beach and jetti which great to swim in and chill out, though you may get the occasional hassle from people wanting you to sign up to activities, though you may find their deals a little better.

Food - theres a free buffet available for everyone for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as a student I can say that the food was good (better than what I could make), but would say that due the mass production of this stuff, dont expect it to be piping hot, more warm! I too got a bit of tummy trouble during my stay so do be careful.

Staff - now are every so friendly, don't hesitate to make conversation doing so will make them remember you more and will treat you so well. We had a great waiter who would ensure our drinks were topped up even before the need to ask. Also there are a lot of russian tourists here who come across very rude and do not treat the staff very well so again being english makes you more favorable.

Night-life - again the hotel is primarily aimed for families so do not expect amazing things for young adults etc. Though there is a club which to be fair has some good music can get a but Euro-rave in there but again people very nice and drinks are all-inclusive (except us as it was a prize). Beware of the russian tourists as they do get a little anti-social with each other. Also club ends at 2am but the victoria bar continues on till 5am!!! So those who like to party a little, its practically 24hrs! But there is definitely more things available outside the resort.

Activities - Thomas Cook had a rep who will talk you through the different activities on offer, do have a look and perhaps see whether there are some activities cheaper elsewhere. We did Quad-Bikes (10/10) Snorkling (11/10) and coach trip to Cairo (7/10). For those who are on a budget, still do Cairo by coach...so long as you can cope with an 8 hour coach journey...you'll meet some nice people and see the sights and to honest probably do almost as much than those who flew...remember airport is a nightmare.

So there we go, I think thats covered, I really liked this hotel definitely will return...

Nightlife -

This is the second time me and my family have been to Sunrise Island View and I would recommend it to anyone.

The resort is 10 out of 10 is all areas. The pool and beach are great for during the day to relax and at certain times of the day there is entertainment that is great for anyone up for it. The slides are great fun and staff around the pool are very helpful.

The food is very good quality but after a couple of days it starts to get rather boring. But there are the two other restaurants and you can always order McDonald's to the hotel.

The staff are very friendly and after a small tip will keep the drinks flowing all night. When everything dies down later on in the night the staff will sit and talk to you if they have the time. Waiters in the restaurants are all very friendly and helpful but could be more sufficient and organised.

Entertainment during the day was great fun, mucking about around the pool. At night it is limited to the amphitheatre or the horrendous singers at the pool bar. Night time shows were good but the shows that are brought in are complete rubbish, especially when they are on both weeks. The entertainment staff couldn't of been better. All the women were very friendly mostly from Russia. The men from Egypt and Tunisia are the best group of men I've met in a long time, they are so friendly - Ballo, Kojo, Mario, Joe and the rest. I have created a great friendship with one of them and still keep in touch.

Out of the hotel there are lots of things to do during the day and at night. I would recommend quad-biking through the desert at only £15 per person for a 2hour long trip it is well worth it. The aqua-park is also a very good day out but not very good for kids aged between 5-9. The flight trip to Cairo is also a very good day out but a very long one and not to good for people who don't like to get up at 5am.

Overall this hotel is brilliant and I would love to go back again next year which will be my 3rd time and I met a few people at the hotel and it was their second or third time there.

Thanks to all the staff for a great holiday =]

We did not arrange our taxi from the airport to the hotel so be warned, make sure you get the hotel taxi to collect you or have a transfer arranged as the Bedoun taxi's charge what that like, demanded £35 English and managed to get them down to £25 to go around the corner.

Having read reviews prior to going and having spoken with those who had been to Egypt I had mixed reviews and was more concerned about the Egyptian Stomach. Have to say other than the dilemma with the taxi there is not a thing my husband and I could fault. Yes, into our second week we had a couple of days with a dodgy stomach but as in the other reviews a trip to the chemist and we were sorted and our four year old daughter was fine not a problem. It was no doubt due to over indulgence or dehydration on our part.

The hotel, be it as people have commented, is not a 5 star as you would expect here at home. The staff could not do enough for you, make sure that you change and take plenty £1 coins for tips as this goes a very long way. The cleanliness of the hotel was first class, the rooms were cleaned and linen changed daily and the staff were constantly working on the gardens and ensuring everywhere was clean and tidy.

Some reviews mention about the nightly entertainment, but to be honest the Animation Teams were first class and my daughter and my husband and me loved the nightly entertainment in the Amphitheatre each evening, as well as the continuous daily entertainment around each of the pools, and on the beach with the exception of the quiet pool area.

In addition I have to especially make comment on the food, there was so much choice and the presentation was second to none, always so careful to ensure everything was prepared to a high standard and covered away from the flies. Naturally some things into the second week can get repetative, but make sure you book the Fatima restaurant and the Italian, be warned you must book at least two days in advance, well worth a visit and it is a nice change to sit and be waited on instead of having to go and help yourself. Also note that in the main help yourself restaurant you can end up waiting a while to get a drink!

I would certainly recommend going to Egypt and going to this hotel.

Sharm what a place!!! I had a very relaxing holiday, weather was amazing for October and the hotel was large and spectacular. Our room was much bigger than expected (junior suite) very clean and well maintained.

A good variety of food, my friend is vegetarian so we were worried but they have a pasta station and a panini station so there was always something for her. There was also Fatima's which is down by the beech you can eat dinner there as many times as you want but you do have to book in advance. The food was lovely but a lot of meat and fish not much for vegetarians but I LOVED IT as a meat eater. Also a Italian which is really nice and a change if you get a bit bored of the buffet .

We did venture out to dinner a couple of times just for a change the food was reasonably priced and when we went to TGI Fridays the food was about half priced compared to home. We also went to PACHA nightclub in Nama Bay which was really good and they have set nights like Friday was ministry of sounds smooth we had a wicked time.

There is 4 pools on the resort we always sat at pool number 2 which is the active pool where they have entertainment morning and afternoon, like Aqua gym, darts, yoga, belly dancing quizzes etc.

We went to the health spa for the Cleopatra package which was £35.00 and included a full body massage, a facial and face mask with cucumber, a body scrub, body wrap, sauna steam room and Jacuzzi which is amazing value and was very relaxing (I would definitely recommend).

We also went quad biking in the desert which was so much fun and a boat trip with snorkelling it is literally like being in a aquarium and the fish are not scared of you they come right up to investigate (once in a life time!!!). As for the staff they are all 5* they will do anything for you especially Osama he is so lovely!!! They love the English as the Russians tend to be rude (no please or thank you).

As we were 2 girls on our own the men do hassle you slightly but just be polite and say no and they soon get the message (or just tell them you are married).

Well what else can I say I would definitely go back to Sharm overall the hotel is lovely the only bad things I have to say is that the hotel is 75% Russian and the evening entertainment round the pool is the same double act every night (yawn!!!) but if you don't mind venturing out you'll have a great time.

Finally I forgot to mention that you must try a sheisha (a water pipe) it is so relaxing and social and you can try all the different flavours

Enjoy and say hi to Osama for me.

Would really recommend this hotel. Superb quality and cleanliness. Staff couldn’t be more helpful.

We found the heat very intense, 48 degrees every day, but then we had been warned of this. There is no way you could sit out in the sun - you'd die of heat stroke. We spent the whole time in the water or under the parasol.

Snorkelling was great which you access via a small jetty off the resort.

Tip lots with either a £1 coin or their equivalent 10 Egyptian pounds - it works wonders. Tip your room service guy each day (just a £1) and he tops your fridge up and looks after you.

Food was excellent - huge choice every night. No bugs from this food.

You may get the dreaded tummy bug but it will be from the heat not the food. Drink water non stop all day - it’s the only way to avoid it. If you do get it - don’t bother taking your Iodene etc. Go to the chemist opposite and they prescribe you big fat tablets that work within hours.

Really recommend the Quad bike trip. Fantastic fun.

100% recommend the Cairo flight trip. WOW - what a day. So well organised too. Coach followed us around the whole time so that if the heat became too much - you just pop back on for a breather.

My only groan was that we ended up getting up at 05.30am to reserve a sunbed and parasol. The bed wasn’t so much a great demand but you needed that parasol otherwise you'd fry.

Would advise not choosing end of July as would be more comfortable when cooler, however we had a brilliant time and the kids loved it. Nice air con in rooms and hotel areas.
