Submitted By: Mr N WatersWe found the apartments to be decent, the shower was hot and powerful, the kettle worked and the maid came in every other day. For us a family it's all we require when we go away. The place was clean and it had a decent view.
The complex at the San Jaime is huge, there are 2 zones for holiday guests plus another 3 for residential guests. There are 2 pools and 2 places to eat, these have a deal on for 16euros you can go from self catering to half board - getting a breakfast and a 3 course dinner or evening meal. All in all its a good looking deal although we didn't take it up
Twice a week they had entertainment on, if you have been to Spain before you will know about the local tribute acts!
In between the 2 San Jaime pools in Club San Jaime, which is owned by different people, they have a nice big pool, waterslides and tend to have better acts on. We saw acrobats from China there and they were really really good.
The only downside to the facilities onside for me was the lack of lifeguard at the pool. The deep end is 2m+ and they don't provide any pool staff.
Further a field there are loads of places to eat, we found that during the evening these places wouldn't let you in for just drinks. There are plenty of bars though - The Kit Kat English bar is very friendly and its just like being at home, there's an irish bar, a hawaii themed bar, which is a good experience as you all come out with loads of lei's around your neck (pardon the spelling!). There's a place called Josephs and we spent hours and hours in there, he's a top bloke, great with the kids great range of cheap food and drinks.
We went for the last 2 weeks of June and all of us at some time got sunburn, despite using SPF 40! There is a medical centre on site, the temperature reached the 30's and one thermometer in a shop read 40 degrees!
Overall we enjoyed it, we have 3 kids under 12 and had plenty to do, the beach is clean and well supervised, the sea is awesome to swim in.
We'd go again.

" Looking at some of the other reviews... "
Submitted By: Mrs M WinterbottomThe first apartment in Zone 3 we were in was dreadful - awful tiles in bathroom and kitchen straight out of the 70s, damaged floor tiles, cracked window pane, damaged patio table. Thomson brochure had said they had been "restyled in 2007" but this just meant a lick of paint which I had assumed was standard practice anyway! We moved to another apartment in Zone 5 and that was much better as it was privately owned but still no microwave. Originally self catering but found it soooo expensive in resort - avg 70 euros for two adults, two kids and a toddler! We ended up going half board which was a better deal but the food was a bit monotonous. All the restaurant menus in town are the same and must have been written by the same bloke - and chips with everything (even breakfast). Las Dunas and Atalis were the best we thought - Arthurs (which was packed every night) was definitely the worst meal yet the most expensive. We found the staff at the San Jaime fantastic in the Zone 3 restaurant and the San Jaime club - the waitress in the Zone 5 restaurant was soooo miserable. The pools were very nice but no where near enough sunbeds at the Zone 5 pool and people were queuing in the morning waiting for them to be unlocked. If you didn't get a sunbed then you had to sit on a plastic chair all day! Not my idea of fun. You get charged 5 euros per sunbed on the San Jaime Complex - cheek of it. Water slide great but v expensive. Supermarket was well stocked. If you are after cigs there is a machine in the San Jaime Club bar that sells cartons of 200 but that's the only place we could find.
The complex overall I found to be OK but not particularly safe considering its geared towards families - you access the apartment from the balconies. Downstairs apartments don't have any railings/walls so its not enclosed. In the upstairs apartments there's a gate that is very easy to open with no lock so our 2 yr old was out at the first opportunity. There were sloping grassy areas that ran to walls dropping down a couple of feet - I got so much exercise chasing after our 2 yr old who would have fallen down the drop if I hadn't caught her. The Thomson kids club only had 16 places - they have 145 apartments aimed at young families so you do the math. I thought the reps were rubbish - I've seen more life in a graveyard, no personality and no common sense either. Didn't seem willing to do anything for you particularly - certainly didn't want to put themselves out.
This was our 4th time on Menorca and it was really disappointing. Previously been to Santo Tomas (Victoria Playa which was fantastic) and Salgar. We definitely won't go back to Menorca as it is far too expensive and we definitely won't go on a package holiday as we got no value from having a rep on hand.

Submitted By: Mr D Scottmy son would of liked a tv but i am quite relived it did not have one.
there are 3 pools on the complex that were spotless and clean, but yes they are freezing lol. but we did go in may.
the entertainment at night was tribute bands but a lot of fun, i only disliked elvis, but the others were good.
the resort is lovely, its clean and quiet, the slides and maze had not opened yet but i think they were opening the week after we left, also the land train was not running yet but the walk to the beach is very pleasent and all on one level no steps or hills to climb.
the restaurants are ok, but i recommend arthurs and the one next door i think its called dunas or something like that, the only basdmeal we had was the restuaraunt next to the kit kat bar, but the kitkat bar itself was good.there was also a restaurant called bonis which was fab.
the hawian bar is great but be warned its expensive its ok for a one off treat, cost us 33 euros for 5 drinks.
we took a bus to mahon one day and from there you can get buses to most other places so next time we will explore more.
the trips from the reps quite expensive.
did not use kids clubs but they do have them.
i would go back but maybe a little later in the season as it was still cool on certain days, but all in all a fab first holiday abroad, kids ages 11 9 5.

" On arrival it was great to be able to... "
Submitted By: Mrs S LovelockThe apartments were compact, basic, but clean and well stocked with towels and linen, although we were glad we took the boys bed blankets/snuglies, as there were no safety rails available to put on the beds, and we used the bed blankets to cushion the floor in case of a fall - but more blankets could have been got should we have needed them.
We enjoyed the holiday, despite "English" weather - some sunny days, some dull, and some rainy. Glad we only booked one week - because it IS quiet - but that's what we liked! They were opening some more bits up - the road train wasn't in operation, nor the flumes, nor the maze - 3 things that attracted us to this location - but hey, I'm sure that they'll be open for Half Term - or soon!!! Spanish time! They were opening some trampolines and bouncy castles on the waste area next to the beach access road so that looks like good fun.
The beach was clean, well patrolled with lifeguards, and if you could get out of the wind, then it was very warm. We found a small "lagoon" which was perfect for the little ones in their boat, as the sea was still quite cold and rough - and on our last day there was a plethora of jellyfish! The beach bars were good, and served excellent snacks.
On the whole we found that restaurants, rather than snack bars actually gave better value for money - if you are happy for chips with everything, then stick to the snack bars, but after about 3 days, the thought of another plate of chips really put me off. We stuck to Arthurs, Las Dunas and for lunch Ones - opposite the Sol Hotel. Food is pretty expensive there, a meal for 3 adults and 2 children would normally cost around 40 Euros - and that was without huge quantities of alcohol - just one beer each, and juices for the boys. Avoid the Chinese buffet restaurant by the beach (next to Las Dunas) - NOT good, cold, MSG sludge, and undescribable meat and fish on offer - and expensive. On the whole though, if you stick to the menu of the day you save money, get 3 courses and it's much better value. Hot dogs there seem to contain MRM (Mechanically recovered meat - so beware!)
We did a day trip to Mahon - 2.20 Euros each and it was worth doing - but I would advise getting the bus from outside the reception of Zone 5 - it's one of the first stops and you'll get a seat ... if you get on by the Sol Hotel you may be packed in with 75 other people! Standing, hot and very bumpy towards the city!
When we left, we saw how much rubbish was thrown out - buckets, spades etc, so it's a good idea to ask the cleaners if you can rummage ... our neighbours who arrived did just that, and got a load of bits for nothing - it's not expensive stuff, but bulky to take home!
Overall, I would say that it was a great holiday - the weather was a bit of a downer, and the place was too touristy for our liking, but it was pleasant, clean and quiet - just what we wanted.

Submitted By: Miss C RobertsApartments spot on, you couldn't fault them!! Pool lovely, although 1 youngster was cut by a broken tile on the pool floor. and another youngster blistered on fingers and toes, as they were told by the chemist was due to, too much chlorine!! Bar staff miserable, some of the reps, (WHEN YOU SAW THEM) miserable, no entertainment at all for the kids during the bad weather, infact no enteratinment full stop on the complex, which really annoyed me!!! everyone going stare crazy, Rep says coz the season hadn't started, MY ADVICE TOUR OPERATORS is, DON'T SELL holidays, when it's out of season, that it my eyes is FALSE advertisement!! Should have been a Thomson FAMILY holiday, entertainment for all!!! I'm sorry but were was your so called ENTERTAINMENT???????
SON BOU as a whole not much there and really EXPENSIVE, £3.00 for a loaf of bread c'mon get a grip MENORCA!! Would never go MENORCA again, too dear, and nothing there to do!! Especially when the weather is bad!!!

Entertainment in the club was fantastic. Lovely long beach shallow waters for bathing.
Son Bou not commercialised although there is one ugly hotel.
Altogether a great family holiday kids enjoyed the pool and the apartments were big, balconies back and front lovely and clean, plenty of clean towels.
Just have to go and find out how fantastic it is for yourselves.

" San Jaime apartments were ideal,... "
Submitted By: Miss R QuinnOur upstairs room had its fair share of ants a few lizards so be prepared. The cleaners came to make the beds and provide fresh towels every two days, cleaning the bathroom etc.
Because it is the end of the season Son Bou was really quiet but still enough bars and restaurants to offer enough choice for the week. The Hawaiian bar was a particular favourite.
Joseph's breakfasts were good and the best evening meal we had was at Boni's...gorgeous.
The beach is fab, lovely sand gently sloping into the sea so ideal for little swimmers and very shallow waters mean it is a bit safer.
Would definitely stay here again.

1. The apartments in Zones 4 and 5 are a much better standard and there is far more flat space for kids to play safely. (When we arrived we were allocated an apartment in Zone 3, nearest to the resort centre/beach, however we asked to move as our apartment was facing onto main road with no space for kids to play. We were moved to Zone 4 the next day. As a result I can tell you that the standard of the accommodation is quite shabby in Zone 3.)
2. Eating out in Son Bou itself is expensive and the food overall is really much the same in all restaurants - chips are everywhere! We could not find a traditional Spanish Restaurant. However, the apartments are well equipped for cooking simply (and cheaply) and supermarket and bakery on complex are good. (TIP: take washing up liquid, travel handwash, scourers and plastic cups for the kids).
3. The 3 pools on the complex are all good - you can use the middle pool (within Club San Jaime) and just lay towels/lilos on grass so no need to pay for sunbeds.
4. The entertainment on every night at Club San Jaime is very good - really varied and aimed at the whole family. However - it starts really late - not until 9.45pm each night. So no good if you like to keep the kids to a routine bedtime. Zone 3 does a puppet show on a Saturday night at 8.30pm which was very good too.
5. It is really worth taking a trip to Mahon. Only 2.5 euros each way on local bus and takes about half an hour. You can take a trip on a glass bottomed boat (25 euros for whole family) lasts an hour and is a real treat.
6. The beach is stunning - take lilos to lie on - the sunbeds are now 17 euros per day!
In sum, a great choice for a sunny family break.
