Our Worst Nightmare!!
1 / 10
Apr 2009, wendyholt

This holiday was awful. If the hotel was not located on the beach then we really don't know how we would have lasted the week! We booked to stay at the Malama Beach Hotel purely based on the facilities that the internet site suggested it would have; which we are ashamed to say were completely incorrect. The quality of the food has been mentioned a lot in other reviews but we have to agree that the hygiene standards in this hotel were appalling! We quite literally lived off bread & for an entire week because the food was so poor & we did not have the option of dining elsewhere because the hotel was unable to change the travellers cheques that we had brought with us (even though we clearly checked before booking that the hotel would have a currency changing facility). The hotel staff merely suggested that we go to the bank & then pointed towards the reception door. After asking around we found out that you could only get to the local town via bus (which of course you have to pay for). So in effect our £500 worth of travellers cheques were comepletely worthless & we were penniless for the entire duration of our stay (we even had to resort to asking a lovely elderly couple for some change to use the pay phone to call home).
Our hotel room was like a prison cell because it had no balcony (none of the rooms did), our shower screen door fell off when we opened it (as did the toilet flush handle & seat). The hotel grounds were also poorly maintained & it was clear that no maintenance repairs had been carried out in quite some time! There were large holes in the concrete corridors which had been covered with green felt fabric, large sections of the grills around the swimming pools were missing (which was very dangerous for everyone - especially children) & almost all of the sunloungers were broken (one poor man fell straight through the bottom of his & cut his arm quite badly).
The all inclusive water sports were not all inclusive & you had to pay for them all. The staff in general were quite pleasant but we found the reception staff very rude indeed! On arrival our bags were brought to our room for us & the man who carried them just stood in the doorway once he had finished & demanded a tip. We tried explaining that we didnt actually have any money (only travellers cheques) but he was not interested. We handed him the only few English pounds that we had but he then demanded a £5 note. Eventually he gave up & walked away but we did notice that we were not very popular with the reception staff after that.
By far the best thing about our holiday was the beach. The beach was perfect & we cannot fault it; it was just a shame that the hotel was so bad. We did complain to our holiday agent on returning to the UK (as we were not able to call them while we were abroad) but they were not interested in anything that we had to say (although we noticed that they did reduce the 4 star rating for this hotel to a 3 star on their website). We were told that the hotel is in constant use so regular maintenance is not always top priority & that they believe that the standards were acceptable (even though we sent them photo evidence of flies nesting in the food & photo's of the condition of the hotel). We were offered £21.50 compensation.
We would strongly advise you not to stay at this hotel. The information provided when booking made it sound perfect but it was quite clearly the complete opposite!

Well where do i begin.when booking...

Sep 2008, Mrs D Maunsell

Well where do i begin.when booking this holiday we were led to believe it was 4 star accomodation, there was meant to be a kids club, evening entertainment and food and drink available during the day. What a joke.On arriving they didn`t have us booked in,they told us to go for breakfast and would get it sorted. When we walked into the dining room it was the worst buffet i have ever seen.We have two children 9 and 7 and there was nothing for them to eat.We should have left then!.Two days after arriving we were in bed with a bug that most people in the hotel had.We ended up eating away from malama beach as it wasn`t safe to eat there. The staff just didn`t seem interested in anything we had to say.Tried to phone the tour operator but it just rang and rang, perhaps they knew something already!.tThe kids club didn`t exist,it had closed 2 years earlier. The entertainment well what a joke the only evening we saw anything was when the waiters about 6 men decided to have a dance to their local music. There was no squash for the girls, they ran out of lager and red wine and the only spirits available was vodka and raki.THIS IS THE WORST HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER BEEN ON AND AM DISGUSTED WITH THE WAY IT WAS ALL SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET.WE HAVE BEEN BACK FOUR DAYS AND I AM STILL SUFFERING AND HAD TO GO TO THE DOCTORS TO GET MEDICAL HELP.PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU WANT TO FEEL YOUR BOWEL HAS BEEN TURNED INSIDE OUT AND WANT TO LOOSE A STONE. astly the girl that made the comment about how she thought it was good and thought we shouldn`t be moaning must have been on a different planet to all of us.or just been very very lucky.

my husband and son of 9 , and our cousins and there 18th month son ,arrived on the 19th sept at this hotel. what rubbish it was....... i dont know where to begin.... we arrived at the reception desk where we noticed just standing there this hotel is not for us, whilst waiting for our rooms we were told to go and get some breakfast which was not worth going to, it consisted of bread, jam and tea which we had to ask for cups and when they came out they were rotten inside. after looking at this we didnt bother we walked back to reception desk and didnt even bother asking for the keys to our rooms as we were not staying here. whilst my husband and cousin walked down the road to find another hotel there were other familys telling us to get out and dont stay here they have had the bug ever since they arrived. people were taking picture's of the kitchen just to prove that it was rotten, dirt was everywhere even dead flys living on the floor of the recepion desk.. evening entertainment didnt even exist and in the article it says that it is frequent activities during the day. what rubbish!! well it could go on even longer but this is just a warning if you are booked to go to this hotel cancel now.. just some advise if you have booked up to go to this hotel cancel and re book at the club armonia could not fault the hotel or the people, this was the hotel that was down the road from malama that we ended up staying in what a great hotel.... so please anyone dont go there.

If you are looking for a holiday with...

If you are looking for a holiday with service and friendly staff as a priority, this is not the place for you. The waiters are surly, rude and lazy. The bar staff are totally untrained and the only drinks available to the all-inclusive guests are beer and Raki in plastic beakers. The hotel is generally filthy and there is no point of complaint within the hotel staff. Entertainment is non-existant and stocks of alcohol are kept to a minimum, although the hotel beach shop does sell beer. The food is presented without being labelled and is often left unheated. There is no refrigerated or cooled area for salads and fruits which is left to the elements all day. In order to get a satisfying meal one needs to got to Turgetreis in a cab or the local bus. The food offered is bland and the choice is restricted to one soup, one main course and salad. The state of the sunloungers around the pool leaves a lot to be desired and no maintenance on the pool was in evidence during our stay. Guests found it necessary to bring loungers up from the beach themselves as no staff were ever available to help.
This is not a cheap all-inclusive holiday as we had to soend £500 on found and transport over one week.

100% agree with the latest review -...
5 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr P Clements

100% agree with the latest review - we went for sun, sea and......location! We were not diusappointed. Basically, it is a hotel for couples who are willing to travel around a bit although the pool is in top condition (very small pool for kids) and the sea right on your doorstep (private beach) with its own bar (and loud disco that plays until 2.00 am). Once you get used to the beat (I am an oldie) it isn't so bad - if you want a quieter room it is worth requesting one (no balconies in rooms, but not really needed). If you like swimming take a snorkel - I counted over 12 types of fish just in our part and the sea is very calm and pretty clean.
Turgertreis itself is good - 2 Lira by bus (every 15 mins) and a 15 minute ride. We took a boat trip and would highly recommend it. Book it in the evening at the harbour - we paid £30 for two which was the eqiuvalent of what the Germans paid for one person, via their Agent!
There are loads of niggly things that I could "bang" on about but, for a week and at a great price (via teletext), all things considered we have no complaints.

I can't believe the comments from...

Sep 2008, Miss S N Mitchell

I can't believe the comments from miserable british holiday makers on this and other sites! YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY!!! don't expect everyone to speak your bloody language and feed you british food! stay at home if you want that and don't moan about it!!
me and my boyfriends chose malama beach as it was very reasonable and reviews said not many british which i think is a good thing...less people moaning about everything (although we did have one british girl moan to us on out first day "does this place get any better? theres nothing to do!"...there was a lovely beach! very clean pool! and sunshine...what else did she expect?!!!
hotel itself nice...a little basic but you need to remember what you are paying! rooms clean (housekeeping visit every day), aircon included, TV, small but functional bathroom and bed ok too.
we found the staff friendly and helpful especially the girl on reception and the blokes behind the bars...one guy...the porter i think was a right miserable sod but that didn't bothers us too much!
food was ok...not amazing but always something to eat! breakfast continental style...cold meats, cheese, lots of fresh bread, eggs, salad, melon and also cereal and milk if you wanted. Lunch and dinner usually pretty similar....wide selection of salads and 3-4 hot dishes (stews, fried fish/chicken), small cakes & melon for dessert...they weren't labled but i'm sure you could find out if you asked the chef....i always found something to eat and never had an upset stomach, the food was fresh and replenished regularly! Snack bar on the beach also served burgers chips and turkish pancakes 3-6pm (that british enough for the moaners?!)
the drinks were fine also, cold fizzy beer, soft drinks and tea and coffee self service. alcohol wise i tried the gin which was fine, not watered down! the red wine (not great but didn't think it would be) and the raki! (turkish spirit, very strong!), vodka, white wine and brandy also on offer. could get drinks till 11pm all inclusive then they are charged for during the 'disco' which runs till 2am!
the location of the hotel was ideal for us...right on the beach and relatively quiet. the beach was clean and the water lovely...there was not always enough sun loungers but whats wrong with lying on the sand?! also a lovely quiet beach just off the main beach where we spent most of our time. there is a beach bar where you can get drinks during the day and night and some cushions under some trees which is a nice spot to sit and have a drink in the evening.
there is not much around the hotel but there are a few shops and a couple of restaurants. but the local buses take you to all the major towns for a couple of lira..we went to turgutreis...a lovely town with a nice harbour lots of restaurant (we ate in a good one called mona lisa i think) and bars. You can also get boat trips here round the islands which i would recommend.
The area is lovely and i would go back....for the price the hotel was fine i have no major complaints

If you are English then dont go to...
1 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr M Johnson

If you are English then dont go to this hotel you will regret it.
The hotel is accomodating of Germans,Russians and the Dutch, its not set up for the English. Food was not refridgerated nor was there any descriptives on what you were eating, we had a 3 year old girl with us and there was nothing for her to eat,we had to go down to the centre everyday for a meal.
There was loads of complaints from the few English that were there and some of them got moved to another hotel especially those with children. There was no English food at all, never enough sun beds and the staff could hardly speak English, the bar was very basic and you could only get a lager in a half pint plastic glass.
On arrival we were met at reception by a young man who could not speak English.
We were taken to our room which was very basic but clean and tidy with air conditioning.
We went for breakfast the first morning about 9am only to realise there was no English menu at all, there was nothing English to eat, no toast, eggs bacon nothing at all, you could get a coffee if the machine was working which had an awful habit of breaking down when you would most expect it to be working.
The pool area was very clean but when the surrounding area got wet it was dangerously slippy, the hotel setting and view was absolutley fabulous but this did not make up for the rest of the problems we had.
We found the staff in general to be unhelpful but they could not speak English so I guess this was not suprising
Pay a little extra and go somewhere else.
The resort itself in Turgatreis was really nice with a good selection of entertainment, bars and restaraunts, the people there were very friendly , and easily accesible by bus for as little as 2 lira. We wouldgo back to this area but not to the malama beach hotel.

Oh My God When we booked this hotel...
3 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr S Simon

Oh My God
When we booked this hotel it was put down as a 4 star when we arrived after 2 and a half hour transfer cos he went on a sight seeing tour around gumbet and surrounding areas (not excactly what you want when it is 38 deg) the hotel rec eption was very small did not speak very good if any english so we had trouble booking in.
the room was small seeing we had 2 small children and 1 pushchair. it only had 2 small twin beds so again we had to ask for an extra bed.
We went to the pool and deceided to have a dip but for a 100 room hotel there were only 22 bed chairs we again complained but we got shrugged shoulders.
we then realised that we were the only english staying as the hotel had all rusian people staying so all pool activitiy and music was rusian.
the food was terrible the breakfast consisted on bread and jam and leftover chips or egg that made me ill, the chef only done a egg for me once on the holiday, thank god as it was horible.
the food in the evening and lunch was just as unappitising not just by us but other guests.
we had to get taxis into turgutries (cost of 17 lire) (£8) each way just to get something to eat.
the only good point was the pool it was always clean and not too much chlorine)
if you can afford a better hotel that would be closer to turgutries then do it as you Will be dissapointed with this one.
just pay a bit more or dont bother.
bye
