Sep 2010, hot and hungry

i took my wife our daughter and her 3 young children
we had booked a family room
sent to a room for 4 people
after a complaint a cot 1930, and single bed were thrown into the room. i think they had fished the bed out of a skip
asked to move the next day
got a much larger room but were given no help moving
the luggage or extra beds
that night we realised why the room was available
the air conditioning did not work
we were bitten to death
the next day we were given keys for 6 other rooms
i think the staff on reception were too embaressed to
accompany us
2 had a greeny-brown living organism on the ceiling
the others were on the first floor and had a small lake on the balcony where the air conditioning drain was leaking
we stayed in the hot room
the food was disgraceful
the beer was warmer than the food
the only thing we enjoyed was the snack bar service
where you could watch them prepare the food
i gave the hotel 2/10 this is for the pool complex
this was very disapointing after a great holiday in turkey last year

Jul 2010, Allyb

Arrived at the hotel at 7.00am after travelling all night (2hrs plus on coach from airport), to be told check-in wasn't until 2.00pm! Returning to reception at 11.00am to try and hurry them up we were told, sorry your room was ready when you arrived, you can move in now. Off we went, myself, my husband and my two sons aged 18 & 15yrs. The room was a double room, consisted of 1 double bed plus one single, they informed us they would put another single bed in the space in the corner, which meant completely blocking the patio door and therefore access to get out of the room, no consideration for health & safety here, and as my sons are both over 6ft this would have been impossible to live with for a week. I returned again to reception and spent 15 minutes trying to explain that i had paid for four adults and had been told on booking we would have a family room consisting of either 2 double beds or 1 double plus 1 single plus 1 sofa bed. Receptionist kept pointing to paper saying you booked double room, i would not back down and eventually was told to come back in 2 hours and we could have a family room. We then had to sit on the beach until 1.00pm in the clothes we had travelled all night in.
Housekeeping is none existent, cleaners do manage to turn up every day but the most they do is remake the bed, leaving one thin blanket for the double bed that isn't even as wide as the bed, my husband ended up using towels as a cover. Bathroom was old & dirty and never cleaned once in our week, we reported masses of ants in the bathroom, nothing happened about that. Some days the 'cleaners' did not even make it to the patio, leaving dirty floor, glasses we'd used and ashtrays we'd used.
Don't bother getting up for breakfast its not worth it. No fresh juice just watery cordial, no toaster, only dry rolls, cheese and some of the previous days salads. Lunch ok if you like salad, dinner was on some nights very good and others very poor. Always big queues for the hot food, as there's only one counter so you don't get to eat with your family much if you want different things. Cutlery & glasses in dining room are not just dirty they are filthy, defo take your own.
One of the reasons we booked this hotel was because of the watersports included for my sons, what watersports never even saw a pedeloe! Swimming pool looked ok from the distance i saw it but there was so many people & kids in it the water used to overflow down the steps onto the patio.
On a positive the beach is lovely and clean, plenty of beds and umbrellas (everyone with kids is at the pool), restaurant, bar & entertainment staff are very nice and friendly and do try to include you (as being english you are a minority). Evening entertainment consists of kids disco till 11.00pm the the disco starts and goes on till 2.00am ish... do not get a room near to pool / beach you will have no sleep with the music.
Local buses stop at top of road every 10 minutes to go to Kusadasi, very cheap and easy to use.
This hotel is barely a 3 star, we booked last minute so didn't pay full price, if i had i'd have been gutted.

We have just arrived back from a weeks all inclusive holiday at this hotel.
Although our holiday was overall quite good some parts were bad.
When we arrived at the hotel (late at night) we were given a horrible little smelly room right on the edge of the complex next to the "Animation" (kids evening entertainment). The next morning we complained and the staff were really friendly and moved us to a nicer room in block B - it wasn't 4 star standard but nice all the same.
The food at the hotel was served in a large canteen style room, plates and cutlery were not all that clean but staff were nice and helpful. The food was very turkish but not very well presented and very samey from day to day. Would hightly recommend the rice, chips and bread which we lived on all week!
The hotel had no other English people staying there and all we saw all week were Russians families that never smiled let along spoke to us. However, we made friends with all the staff at the hotel and spent most evenings chatting to them.
To end on a positive note -
The weather was gorgeous all week, in the high 30's everyday.
The beach was perfect (although you have to get up every to put ur towel out).
The turkish bath at the hotel was so nice. Do this on one of ur first days and don't pay more than £30 p/p. The staff here were lovely.
Don't go wondering outside the hotel looking for shops/resturants as you are in the middle of nowhere and there are none. Instead you should fo to Kusadasi for a visit. It's a 20min bus ride away. We went diving one day at the Charisma hotel (def 5 star!!). Infact if we ever go back to Turkey we will stay there instead :-)

Nice hotel, On beach. was a long time getting to hotel - last drop off. Over 2 hrs from Airport. Hotel doesn't cater much for English, there were 2 other English groups, rest was from Eastern european/russia. Breakfast was worth sleeping in for. Other meals were nice. Daytime activities seamed quite good if you wanted to participate. Evening was a bit of a kiddies disco sort of thing till 11pm then that was that. Kusadasi town is about a 20minute bus ride away costing 3.50ytl pp each way. buses run every 20 minutes from end of street. there's a few shops up and down street. I read reveiws after i booked and wondered how you go from an 8 to a 1 out of 10. But apart from shocking travelling times, we had a good holiday - 5 kids included.

I loved this hotel. The staff are really friendly and there are lots of activities to do during the day for adults and children, for example; water polo, beach volleyball, table tennis tournaments etc.
The swimming pool is large and clean and there is a slide for both the adult and child's pools. The private beach is beautiful and the sea is clear and lovely to swim in.
The all inclusive food available is average, there is a variety of choices but if you're there for 2 weeks, as i was, it does get repetitive.
On an evening there is a disco upstairs in the hotel but i preferred to go into Kusadasi, which is a 40 lera cab ride away, which was annoying but well worth it if you go to Bar Street!
Overall, i thoroughly enjoyed my stay and i would go again.

I am currently staying at this resort...

I am currently staying at this resort and like other people who have recently put entries on this site only read the reviews once I had already booked and obviously like others the remarks had given me some cause for concern. However when I arrived I was quite pleasantly surprised and felt it fair to also put my entry on the site.
The hotel is approximately 2 hours from Bodrum Airport which for me caused some concern as I suffer from motion sickness and was dreading the journey especially as I had spoken to people who said the roads were bad over here. Ok so they are perhaps not the best but certainly no where near as bad I had anticipated. So we arrived at the hotel wondering what we were going to find. We were greeted at the entrance by a member of staff who helped us to check in, a process that was quick and easy considering the language barriers and then we were escorted to our room and our cases were taken there for us.
The room although was relatively small and basic was clean and well presented. It had a comfortable double bed and a single. It had a shower cubicle and toilet which was of a sufficient size ok may be not the newest of showers but it does the job. There were wardrobes and a couple of drawers. There is a portable television and ok the programmes are in Turkish, but we did bring along a portable DVD just in case. There is a small fridge which isn't stocked on arrival but we have found the resort quite obliging and do provide enough drinks for us to take one or two and store them in the room fridge overnight which suffices.
There are 4 bars which offer a choice of drinks for all inclusive which yes are limited to Whiskey, Vodka, Gin, Raki and local beer with a variety of soft drinks being readily available including coffee. The coffee does taste a little different to English coffee it has almost a chicory taste to it but it's ok and there is a local store where if you really were adverse to it you could buy a brand of your choice and obtain hot water to make it with.
The food I have found to be varied with a large selection of salads, cheeses, cold meats and sauces and a wide range of desserts which are of a Mediterranean influence. Each evening there is at least a choice of two differing hot meals and also a vegetarian option, chips, rice and pasta. House wine can be obtained with the meals along with the other options under the all inclusive range. There is an abundance of fresh bread available both wholemeal and white and it is nice, I was expecting it to have that sweet taste that a lot of breads abroad tend to have but its very similar to the taste of the bread in England. Melon and yoghurt is available at each meal time. Breakfast is more of a continental type so you don't find the traditional English breakfast here which some may find a little disappointing however I do feel there is a good selection of pastries, cereals, yoghurt, eggs, cheese and cold meat along with drinks as above.
There is a snack bar open at intervals during the day which appears to serve burgers and chips if that is the sort of food you like, I'm yet to see that type of thing served in the restaurant but bear in mind it is coming to the end of the season and I would expect that would be the sort of thing served particularly when children are off school, at this moment I do not recall see any children here. Ice cream is limited to later in the afternoon but when I sampled it I felt it was well worth the wait, cakes and biscuits are available mid afternoon for those who want them.
The facilities that the resort offers include: Obviously a choice of bars which ok do stop serving all inclusive drinks by 11pm but we have found we’ve managed to have sufficient before then anyway and after that time we can pay and it is what could be perceived as being the 'better known brands' that are served then. There appears to be a doctor on site at most times. There are pleasant but small gardens with tables and chairs, a small children’s play area, restaurant, snack bar, very clean pool with sun beds and changing facilities but to be honest it's not that far to walk back to the room to get changed and there is a small shallow children’s pool with a twirly slide.
There is an activities schedule for those wanting to participate including discos, aqua aerobics, aerobics, beach volley ball etc. There are dart boards and table tennis available. A Sauna and Turkish bath providing various 'pampering treatments' which ok are extra but very reasonably priced and well worth it, carried out by friendly, professional staff. There is a hairdresser and obviously internet facilities. There is a large lobby with a bar and a large screen TV and comfortable sofas - there is an English channel on this. There are a few arcade machines available and a snooker-pool table.
From the snack bar is the beach a lovely long stretch that is very clean and offers watersports. There are sunlongers and parasols available for use. There are a few reasonable priced bars along the stretch of beach not associated with the resort. There are a few corner type shops nearby one which sells postcards, stamps can be obtained from reception and they will post them for you. There is a small market about 5 minutes walk away selling souvenirs and clothes mainly which are very cheap and reasonable quality. It is in a more remote area but there is a regular easy to access bus service which costs about 3 Turkish lira (just over a pound) - Euros also accepted here, each way to get into Kusadasi town.
Reception has a variety of brochures regarding excursions available to be booked and they will assist you with this and they again are reasonably priced. There is entertainment at night which might not be to everyone’s choice, so far we have had a Turkish dancing night and discos which I felt were good. The hotel does cater for a multi cultural client group and the staff here appear able to communicate with the clients to a sufficient standard to meet the needs. Since we have been here we have found the staff extremely friendly, approachable and willing to assist in any way they can sometimes above and beyond what we expect. So all in all I am extremely satisfied with this resort and whilst I can appreciate it may not be what everyone is looking for, in my experience no where is. So what I would suggest to anyone who has found themselves in the same position I did, don't worry, come and have a look for yourselves, you might be pleasantly surprised, we were.

I don't know what was so awful people...

I don't know what was so awful people found in the hotel but my husband and I enjoyed our stay very much. Staff was very friendly and helpful. As for food then I think it's ridiculous to ask for bacon - you are in Turkey, not Brittan, don't be so arrogant and ignorant.
I was 24 when we were over there and I found plenty to do such as swimming, sightseeing and excursions. I think that if you are looking for flaws you will most diffidently find them. If you like beach, different foods and plenty to explore I would recommend this hotel and Turkey in general!

When we first arrived at Egeria beach...
2 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr S Harrison

1 reader found this review helpful

When we first arrived at Egeria beach club, Devutlar, Kusadassi, our first impressions were that it seemed ok. The journey from Bodrum airport takes about 2 hours by minibus (not for the squeamish). They will overtake anytime anywhere. Prior to leaving the UK we were told by our travel agent that the original hotel we had booked the Marti Beach in Kusadassi was now unavailable and were offered by the hotel company Medhotels, Egeria beach.
The hotel is made up of mostly German, Dutch, Belgium and French. If you are happy being in the middle of nowhere then this is the place for you. Kusadassi is actually 20 to 30 minutes by bus, there are very few cafe's or restaurants in the area and there is no nightlife and the shops Are just a couple of supermarkets. Before accepting the Egeria beach club not that we were given another choice.
Anyway I told the tour operator that we had teenagers and they would want to
Go clubbing and like a lively take it or leave it holiday. I was assured they would Have plenty to do, this is not the case. We have two teenage children and they tried to make the most of things. However if you are on are on a diet, come here, you wouldn't see a bit of bacon or a baked bean all week. Breakfast is a boiled egg, a sort of spicy meat (not pork) in a sauce and sometimes French toast. Cold meat is only served with salads at breakfast.
We were going into town (Kusadasi) every couple of days just so the kids could get a balanced meal. The food selection is like Groundhog Day nearly always the same Thing most of which we could not eat. (That previous reviewer must be joking
about the food). The only fruit I saw was water melon and grapes. Ice cream is rationed out 5:30pm to 6.30pm only.
Service here is poor not many staff speak English. Illness was rife here among the British, as every family we have spoken to Has had someone with diarrhoea during their stay. Some families moved hotels whilst we were here.
All rooms have TV - may as well remove it and have some space on the shelf – All channels six of them are local ones - No Sky - no CNN - not even cartoon Channels. Our room smelled of musty damp, the hairdryer worked for only 10 seconds, there is no mini bar it is a fridge (not stocked).
Entertainment programs usually start at 21:30 mini disco (I think most toddlers would be very tired by then). Once a week there is an Outside Turkish dance group that tries to entertain. This all happens at the Amphitheatre this is at the opposite end of the hotel complex (approx 150m) to The bars and restaurant area. This area is what I would call dry, no bars for any drink whatsoever not even water. At 23:00 the amphitheatre Closes (the same time you have to start paying for your beverages) And you can then return to the restaurant area where upstairs the night club Opens until 01:00 this was closed one night for a private party when we were there.
The Pegasus bar is open 08:30 until 19:00 - nice coffee and good service in there.
The beach here is fine but they will charge for sun bed cushions and Towels are supplied. As you can tell we did not enjoy this holiday though the weather was excellent.

We stayed for a week at the Egeria...

Jun 2006, Miss S Bodmin

We stayed for a week at the Egeria hotel and loved it. It is right on a nice private beach and also has a large swimming pool.
Being 15km from the city centre was a drawback for some people but there is easy access to the centre with regular buses or taxis. There was plenty of entertainment for all ages at the hotel so we didn't really feel the need to go into town much anyway.
The food was nice with plenty of variety. The rooms are basic but comfortable with everything we needed. The staff were great all very friendly and made the effort to get to know your name and chat to you.
the receptionists weren't very competent with English but this out rep from Med hotels came to the hotel daily and sorted out everything we needed like booking tours etc.

I stayed with my wife at Egeria...

Sep 2004, Mr I George

I stayed with my wife at Egeria Hotel, which is about 15 Km to Kusadasi.
We arrived at 1 a.m. and were immediately given the key to our room. First impression was that we ended in some cheap hotel, though they say it’s a 4 star hotel and it costs like that. The room had moisture trails on the walls, and was smelling horrible. Later we found out that the smell was coming from a water tank situated nearby, which also was connected to some kind of motor that was waking us up in the morning.
Our room was in the block D, and I learned that almost all the rooms here were the same. There were other blocks in the yard too, and from outside they seemed to look better. When we asked to change the room, after some arguing we were given another room in the same block, which was even worse, had more moisture trails and the door could not be locked. So we stayed in the first one :) hoping that the next day at the meeting with the lady that was supposed to be our guide (was from the travel agency and assured us that we’ll meet the next day at hotel reception) we would complain to receive another room. However, she didn’t come for 3 days :), so we remained where we were. The travel agency is Peninsula Tours.
There were some good parts though: pool, beach and food.
