The view from the studio was fabulous...
5 / 10
Nov 2007, Mrs L B

The view from the studio was fabulous and should have enabled the rating to be a '10'. However, we were in a studio with one small single wardrobe and one bed-side cabinet as the only means of storage. Although we don't take much on holiday it is all the bits and pieces that need to be put somewhere. It was the smallest studio we have ever been in. The fridge was filthy and needed cleaning before we could use it as did the very few bits and pieces that were in the 'kitchen' cupboard.
We could have been OK with that - but what really took the edge off the holiday was the noise really late at night and into the early hours of the morning - 2.00 and 3.00am were quite the norm to hear music and shouting.
Do NOT go here if you are an ordinary/light sleeper unless you take ear plugs. You have been warned. The resort and the people are lovely but we wouldn't stay there again.

Stayed at these apartments...
6 / 10
Nov 2007, Mr P Scott

Stayed at these apartments September/October 2007 in the rear facing room (number 4), this being the one as described in the Kosmar brochure with the spiral staircase and rooftop terrace.
Yes the views are brilliant once you've negotiated the staircase which is not easy if like me you are tall, or infirm. Just because you are on the rooftop don't expect privacy! You are overlooked by another block of apartments, with their balconies facing you, and as for quiet, we heard little with the doors closed, but open the rear facing patio doors and you are faced with Greek families, doing what the Greeks do, watching TV with the volume on max and sitting on their terrace shouting at each other.
The apartment itself is basic, first impressions were not good, as the room seemed run down and in need of some TLC, but over the fortnight it grew on us. The bathroom is triangular with a sliding door into the main room. Having a shower was an experience, lucky to get hot water, and several times lucky to get any water at all.
There were 2 beds, a double and a single, which is great if you want to take kids, but made the room seem smaller than it really was.
The resort was quiet while we were there, some nights we were the only ones in the Taverna. Food was simple and cheap, but you get what you pay for, the resort speciality is Roast Pig on the spit, in fact just about everything was on the spit. Great at first but after 2 weeks we were ready for a change.
Overall we were a little disappointed with the holiday, especially as this was the most we have ever paid to go to Greece, and I don't see how Kosmar can justify the high prices for this resort. My advice is that if you want to stay in the centre of the old village stay at these apartments, I personally would go for the more modern/newer accommodation at the other end of the resort.

We stayed in the Dimitra apartments...
6 / 10
Aug 2007, Mr M Bramley

We stayed in the Dimitra apartments during the first two weeks of August 2007.
First the good points:
The view. The quiet during the day and into the evening. The wonderful beaches. The tavernas are good. The people are friendly. The supermarkets are stocked well and are open quite late. A very good friendly atmosphere in the whole resort. Sheets and towels were changed twice a week. The air conditioning.
The not so good points:
We found the apartment to be clean - just. The glasses, cups and all cutlery needed washing before it could be used. The last people in the apartment had not cleaned anything properly. The cupboards all needed cleaning before they could be used. The fridge was on its last legs, the ice box had been replaced and the door did not shut correctly and consequently sometimes the fridge door would open by itself. I know this is basic Greece and it’s not our first visit to Greece it’s our 9th, but there is such a thing as basic hygiene which I feel the owner should have addressed.
Overall.
We did have a comfortable holiday at the Dimitra and would return to Finikounda next year if Kosmar had not put prices up £150 per person.
One thing to be aware of is the nearby bar that is about 25 metres away. It got very noisy on two occasions and woke two of the apartments up at 2 in the morning, but that was at the height of the Greeks holiday season as well, just be warned if you are a light sleeper.

We stayed in the Dimitra in Oct 2005...
9 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs T Lowe

We stayed in the Dimitra in Oct 2005 for two weeks. We had the middle studio at the front overlooking the harbour. Studio was small and basic but very clean and pleasant enough. The view from the balcony was excellent and we spent many happy hours sipping ouzo and watching the world go by. The only down side for us was the close proximity of a bar which played very loud music most nights well into the early hours. I wouldn't have minded so much if the music was of the Greek traditional type, unfortunately it was mostly rap!
The bar seemed to cater for the Neilson young staff who worked nearby. Finikounda itself was lovely and we are going back this Oct but to different accommodation. It's a shame about the bar because the accommodation otherwise would have been really lovely, Dimitra the owner lives downstairs and is very friendly. Maybe if you sleep like the dead or take earplugs it would be ok. Nearby towns of Methoni and Pylos are definitely worth a visit and ATMs can be found in both.

This is a basic studio at the back of...
8 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr T Watson

This is a basic studio at the back of the building and split level. Small Bath/shower room. 1 Double and 1 single bed. Cooking rings, Fridge. Kept clean by owners. And a spiral staircase to roof terrace. (Mind your head).
But the secret of this studio is the roof terrace. You will not find a better view anywhere else in the whole village. It is just fantastic 360 degrees over the harbour, village and behind. The terrace has to be about 20ftx25ft with a table and benches under a bamboo shaded area. Kosmar has a little diamond here.
The village it's self is a nice friendly place with some great tavernas. Particular 'Dionoses' at the harbour end. Beaches were almost empty. Nice walks all around. NOT very good for local transport, 1 bus a day to Mithoni.
A word of warning. If you need to change any money up it's not easy here. Only 2 places change money. One a small supermarket across the road near the Kosmar office and the other is at the big taverna at the far end of the harbour. Go to the big taverna to change your money.
We changed up £100 at the supermarket and they gave us 1.34 Euros to the pound, the worst I have ever got anywhere in Greece but the taverna gave 1.39 which is nearer what it should be.
Overall the resort is more for the older section of population. But don't be put off it is still a very nice place. Score 7 out of 10.
