One of the best holidays we have ever...
9 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs F And Family

One of the best holidays we have ever had! The Nautilus apartments and studios are kept spotlessly clean and in great condition. The pool and surrounding sunbeds are lovely - and the shelf around the edge of the deep end is a great idea, making it easier for smaller children/less confident swimmers to feel secure.
The food is delicious - particularly the pizzas! - and the bar area is comfortable and a great place to meet up with fellow guests. If you need peace and quiet, it's rare to be disturbed by late-night noise - once the double-glazed doors are shut, and the air-con going, you can't hear much outside.
The crowning glory of this lovely hotel is the family who run it - mum, dad, two sons and daughter-in-law - the friendliest, genuine and most helpful owners we've ever had the privilege to encounter. Add to that the lovely, unspoilt and typically Greek surroundings, with great tavernas and nearby villages (Molyvos is so pretty) and you have the perfect Greek island holiday, for families and couples alike.

Aug 2007, S Noakes

This is a quiet, friendly place to stay. My two children were presented with a bucket and spade on arrival, my parents were taught Greek by Niki and we were left a present of watermelon on one evening.
The balconies are a lovely place to sit and enjoy the quiet garden and the donkey resident in the adjoining field is very friendly.
As the other reviewer mentioned the bathrooms are very basic but for two weeks we coped.
Don't try and find a quicker way to the beach just follow the road around and stop off at Anthony's for a chat on the way.

Aug 2007, Ms L Jones

We have just come back from a week staying at Nautilus Apartments in Anaxos. It was the best holiday we have ever had!
Anaxos is a lovely little place, perfect for couples (young & old) and for families and it is only a 20 min bus ride to the historical town of Molyvos. The beach is great and there is an excellent variety of places to each, drink and relax.
Stayed at the Nautilus Apartments, which is in its 2nd season. The place and facilities are excellent; the family who run the place are warm and friendly and will ensure you have a great stay. They also have the best pizzas in Lesvos and should not be missed. There were no square holes in the wall in our apartment, and only some rooms have two balconies. Owner’s cars in the car park, no problem as it is their home. Workmen all gone and it is very quiet as it is on a private road.
We will definately go back next year!

We have travelled to many of the...

Aug 2007, Mrs N Walsh

We have travelled to many of the Greek Islands looking for the real Greece and we believe we have found it here.
Lesvos does not rely on tourism to support it's economy and therefore this makes for an excellent choice to experience the real Greece.
We stayed at the Nautilus apartments in Anaxos - these were the best we have ever stayed in in Greece. Clean, spacious, modern (double bed!) Our actual apartment was B4 and this must have been one of the best as it overlooked the pool (not too directly) and our back door faced the sea - the sunsets were stunning!!!!
The pool was nice, however we are not pool people (although plenty were - perhaps one of the disadvantages others hogging sunbeds!) The staff were very friendly and were happy to do almost anything for you (the same with the Rep VEE) - there was none of the in-your-face stuff! Pizzas were brill!
One slight grumble was the description on the website of the distance to the beach! Yes, a crow could fly in 5 mins (possibly less), however, the walk was a good 20 minutes to the beach and the main centre for the Tavernas. This was not a problem for us but anyone with small children or who had a problem with mobility would have struggled and perhaps even felt slight isolated. The track from the main road to the apartments was "rough" and at least 200 meters (not 50!) Parking very difficult at the apartments.
Anaxos - tavernas - these were variable - the Seaside on the front was awful - the waiters were rude to the customers and one was smoking whilst serving!
Good ones were - Moutsos, Prime, Pizza regina and Paradise. Most of the food is fresh and the salads were brill (veg grown behind the tavernas in many cases)
We hired a jeep from Hertz - a little worst for wear! However, the roads were always clear and driving (although lengthly) was fine. There are some hairpin bends which are not for the faint hearted!
We explored about half the island. Places to recommend:-
Molyvos - by day and night - beautiful (what more can I say) We even saw Dolphins from the harbour wall, whilst watching the sunset.
Skala SIkaminias - beautiful - we went on a Thursday and apparently many of the tourist boats from Molyvos go on other days - best to avoid. On the same day went to Tsonia (road works) again beautiful - great snorkelling - very few tourists even in August.
Sigri - a strange place but very peaceful. Very windy when we were there - walked up to the Turkish fort (saw a fox!) then had a fantastic lunch in the Remezzo Taverna - over looking the bay.
Gavanthas - gorgeous beach (sand bank for a long way out), very wavy - we were there on a Friday and it was empty (bar 3 couples) Sunday used by Greeks but plenty of places to escape.
Skala Kalloni - nice tavernas - very much geared up for the beach holiday - not really our scene.
Finally - Petra - all we could say about Petra is pass through and don't stop! Very touristy, Greece does Blackpool!
Whilst there we would recommend you hire a car/jeep and go on a Donkey Trek.
The Donkey Trek was brill - although a little confusing as we ended up driving ourselves up rather than waiting for the service bus! Michaelis was great, but my donkey decided it didn't want to go (Manon!) and to try and control on the side saddle was hard. We have never laughed so much and all the others (23) of us really enjoyed it. Take plenty of water, sun cream and a hat. If you have little in the way of fat on your bottom you may need some extra padding (my husband ended up with a sore on his buttocks!!!!) We would consider that you do need to have some physical fitness and that these are not like the donkeys at Skegness or Blackpool - however well worth every cent!
All in all a great island for those looking to find the real Greece - no doubt in a few years it will become very commercialised and will lose its charm, a real shame.

We've been back home one week from...
10 / 10
Aug 2007, Mr D Stevens

We've been back home one week from Nautilus & Anaxos and I miss the place more than any destination I’ve ever visited. The Apartments are top class for couples and families - clean, spacious, stylish, and only a year old.
Pool is a good size for the 14 room complex, plenty of poolside furniture and huge umbrellas to keep in the shade. We certainly didn't have a room with square holes in the wall as our air con was placed to service the whole apartment equally, as is the case with most rooms. Some rooms have two balconies and a couple have roof terraces - very nice.
Great well stocked bar, internet access, fantastic pizza made by Cristos, and a gym if you feel the need to spoil your holiday with exercise! Cristos & family are excellent hosts who will do anything for you; they put on an enjoyable bazouki & bbq Greek night every Sunday, and are great company for a night cap at the bar.
Anaxos itself is delightful - small & peaceful, calm even at the height of the season, a good if not excellent beach (slightly shingly), plenty of grocery/gift shops, a decent selection of quality tavernas, helpful friendly locals, and the odd donkey or goat to keep you amused on the way down to the beach.
Mostly Brits in the resort, but plenty of Swedish & Dutch for a bit of Euro bonding. Petra and Molyvos are 10 & 15 minutes away by bus, which is regular and efficient. Molyvos is a beautiful town, historic and quaint, with plenty of modern conveniences - banks, cash points, pharmacy etc. My partner and I had a wonderful week and will definitely be returning to Nautilus next year.

Jul 2007, Ms S Vaughan-schiele

The holiday started well with a good flight and a friendly rep to meet us, but in the studios the mattresses were damp and the blankets mouldy.
This made for a freezing night as the temps were low in early may at night. In the morning I discovered what had been biting me in the night. Bedbugs!
The young rep was unable to help much and the company manager said he could not help us the following night by which time we had rented a car so we had somewhere to sleep, luckily!?
The next day the company manager came to 'help' and was dismissive, rude, and thoroughly unhelpful. The owners of the studios were very sweet but don't speak English and, as I said, the company manager was useless.
Due to the efforts of the studio owner we were found another studio but as we had booked and paid for 2 studios, one each, we were not having the holiday privacy we had wanted when we paid for 2 studios.
Also, we were only offered the same mouldy bed-buggy blankets as we had had on the original beds so we were freezing cold for most of the holiday and only finally offered fresh blankets ( cleaned) for the last 3 nights of our 2 week stay.
On arriving back in England I sent the original complaints form which we had filled in whilst in situ in Anaxos plus a covering letter. This was sent back with a letter thanking me for my 'feed-back' and stating that they hoped I would use Manos again!
No mention of any compensation for not having 2 studios or for the disruption and inconvenience. I now detest Manos Holidays, would never use them again, and would strongly advise anyone else against using them.

These apartments are only 2 years old...

Jul 2007, CityGirlBlue

These apartments are only 2 years old and are kept spotlessly clean and the pool and bar areas are lovely.
However, they are probably best if you are travelling as a couple as we travelled with a 3 year old and we were disappointed with them. It is the luck of the draw which apartment you get, and we think the ones on the first floor would feel much more private.
The one bed roomed apartments all have 2 large square holes in the wall separating the bedroom from the sitting area - this is due to the air conditioning unit being in the sitting area only.
This caused great problems trying to get our daughter to sleep as the light from the sitting area flooded into the bedroom. The kitchen has a small cooker/grill which is good by self catering standards but it does take a long time to warm up and there isn't any washing up equipment, tin opener, or corkscrew.
We were in the apartment over the gym which was not open during our stay and we had to endure a couple of nights banging and crashing whilst they got it ready - one night it was almost 12 midnight when it started!
The apartments all have 2 balconies, the largest of which all look out towards the pool so it can seem like you are sitting in a goldfish bowl. Our balconies overlooked the area where the workmen leave all their tools and they were backwards and forwards most days so we felt very uncomfortable sitting out on them.
We only ate once in the bar/restaurant and ordered burgers which tasted like they were out of a packet. However, we believe the pizzas are very nice (but a bit expensive). Christos and his wife were friendly towards us, but most of the other staff pretty much ignored us - maybe this was because we didn't spend a lot of time around the bar where they hung out.
The pool area could do with more umbrellas for shade and during our stay there were 2 old, dirty local Greek cars parked in the forecourt which really looked awful.
There is a Greek Night BBQ once a week with food and live music, which is fine if you like that sort of thing, but it is loud and goes on late of you have young children.

Jul 2007, CityGirlBlue

Nice, large apartments that are only 2 years old and kept wonderfully clean. However all apartments have 2 balconies, the largest of which all look towards the pool which can seem like you are sitting in a fish bowl.
Our second balcony overlooked where the workmen keep their tools and they were backwards and forwards most days, so there was no privacy.
The one bed roomed apartments have 2 large square holes in the wall separating the bedroom from the sitting area, which are there to facilitate the air conditioning which is situated in the sitting area, but if you have a young child (as we have) when you put them to bed in the bedroom, the lights from the sitting area shine though and we had difficulty getting her to sleep and had to sit in the dark until she had fallen asleep.
There is a gym in the basement which they were still working on during out stay and we had to endure banging and a lot of noise on a couple of nights at midnight. The pool is nice and big but there is not enough shade - more umbrellas are needed.
Dirty owner's cars are kept on the forecourt and we were unable to park our hire car here because of this. Greek night BBQ every Sunday by the pool with live music which is very loud and goes on until midnight.
We only ate in the complex 1 night and had burgers which we thought were out of a packet and not very nice, but I believe the pizzas are very nice.
Overall, we were disappointed with the apartments.

A friendly typically Greek apartments, Niki was very helpful.
The apartments are all ground floor and are Greek (bathroom especially). Situated in a very quiet area, no traffic. The apartments are handy for all of Anaxos.
