We have visited Morzine before and liked what we saw. This time our stay was even better.
Really good hotel excellent room, wonderful food, great skiing. The snow was out of this world powder, powder, powder all the way.
I want to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Le Viking for the excellent help and support they gave me when my husband broke his leg, and a special thanks to the reception staff for helping me with the added hassle sorting out the insurance claims.

Brilliant setting, ultimate location for skiing in Morzine, right on top of the slopes!
The food was excellent and staff were polite, lively and welcoming, particularly Maria on reception, no problem was too small and she personally saw to it that it was sorted.
Great atmosphere at lunch and lovely bbq! Brilliant thank you will definitely be back!

I stayed in this hotel on a group skiing holiday (16 of us with kids & todler). If you are booked in & worried about previous reviews (as were were) then don't worry as this hotel is fine.
The food was much better than I expected, always tasty & nicely presented (not always hot & they did sometimes run out of your choice, but nothing major). There was always plenty of wine.
The Crèche is excellent, so you can really relax & enjoy the skiing.
The only thing I found annoying was the Staff Supervisors. They are like little Hitlers & if you ask them why the bar is not open (bar not open!!) & why is it that Breakfast starts at 8am (isn't that a bit late), only 7:30 on the first morning apparently, then the response is usually - "it is because I say it is!" - they are way too young & inexperienced & this really shows. The staff in general though were lovely & helpful. It is a big hotel & a lot of people to please.
I would recommend that you pay for the whiz kids to drop off for ski school if you have youngsters in ski school, otherwise you have to go down to the bottom with the kids & then catch a lift back up. I found this a bit strange as once the kids met at the bottom, they then had to turn around & get back on the same lift back (?) it would be easier for guests at the Viking to meet them at the top of the lift.
The rep is next to useless. When you arrive at the airport you expect someone to meet you & guide you to where you have to go. Particularly as we were delayed & had to walk to departures where the coach was waiting, so we were like a load of lost souls wondering around with our bags. This happened again on the journey back. No guidance what-so-ever. We just wondered about until we luckily stumbled across the coach, couldn't find the rep anywhere, ho-hum.

Overall the hotel was great. The rooms were fairly basic but clean and the service we received was fantastic. The staff could not do enough to help us.
Food in the restaurant was well presented, always hot and we never waited long for the food. The menu was also great for vegetarians.
We did not have any problems with the pool, it was hot and steamy and the sauna was always clean and a great way to end the day.
The bar had a selection of winter cocktails and showed football, which we found great. We don’t have children but heard great things about the childcare facilities.
In general I could not fault the hotel, the staff were dedicated and professional and always willing to help. This skiing was some of the best ever.

Top holiday and great resort. The hotel and the staff delivered a good service and the food was just right for our needs.
You cannot get a better location or more enthusiastic staff and management. I have stayed at the Viking 2 years ago when is was run by a French company and the difference is noticeable. The crèche and evening activities were top class.
We are planning to return in March and enjoy longer skiing day and après ski on the fab terrace.

The hotel has a fantastic position on the slopes with great views. We were a large party and found the staff to be friendly. Quite alot of them were students.
The food was fine, quite a good selection and always hot. The children were well catered for also. The rooms are a bit basic, bathrooms especially, although ours did have a great view across the valley and down the red run to Morzine.
We did not have any problems with hot water at all. The hotel bar is outdated and this is a shame as it has a good position.
The pool was one of the attractions for us however, it is not as good as shown in the photos and it was very cold. What we had not realised is that the cable car up to the hotel from Morzine only runs late twice a week so sampling the night life of Morzine is very restricted which is a shame as my wife and I were the only ones in our party without children we would have spent more nights in the really great Buddha bar if we had had the chance.
We are considering going back to the hotel as a group because of its fantastic location on the slopes. You can get up and ski straight from the door and miss all the crowds at the lifts. I really enjoyed my skiing also - intermediate level.

7 - 14 Jan 06. 2 adults and 2 kids (3yrs and 6yrs)
RESORT
Fantastic skiing. Lots of blue runs and some easier reds for beginners and intermediates.
Hotel is located half way up the mountain - awesome views and very picturesque but if delivering kids to the ESF ski school at the bottom allow an hr to get sorted or use the Whiz Kids drop off facility provided by the hotel - we didn't but would next time.
Kids ski school/kindergarten is in the sun in the am but not in the pm so recommended morning is better. The hotel has nursery slopes just outside the door including a 'magic carpet' ski lift, which is in the sun all afternoon and also has a sledging area as well. The resort also has some good walking for those not skiing.
HOTEL
Satisfactory. We had a family room for 4. Double bed for us and a sofa bed with a second pullout bed underneath for the kids.
Disagree with above post - plenty of hot water throughout the day - bathed the kids everyday no probs at around 6pm.
Food - kids eat at 5:30 or later with the adults (7:00-8:30) - choice is yours. If the kids eat later they can have the adults menu or mix and match. Staff very flexible - but you have to ask!
Menu was good. Generally a choice of 2 starters, 3 mains (inc a veggie option) and 2 puddings. Main anything from roast guinea fowl to sausage and mash.
Pool - heater element not working properly so was very refreshing!! We went in but not for the faint hearted!!
Hotel staff were young and some inexperienced but nothing was a problem or too much trouble.
One major criticism - I felt they were not as well supported by 'Crystal PLC'/head office as they could have been.

Great resort, good hotel and incredible staff.
The food and the restaurant were exquisite with fantastic service. All the plates were really clean and hot.
Despite others complaints our rooms were just perfect with an amazing view, we couldn't have asked for more. The water was always hot and never ran out.
The staff were informative and helpful especially the girls on reception who went out of their way to make our holiday special.
Overall I would recommend the Viking to anyone.

Fantastic resort - dreadful hotel. The food was frankly inedible - which is remarkable considering the hunger brought on by a hard day's skiing. It speaks volumes that by the end of the week most guests were eating out in the evening.
The heated outdoor pool (one of the main reasons we booked the hotel) was in fact freezing and unusable, thanks to a 'missing part' for the heater which was supposed to arrive every day - but did not! We discovered it had been out of use the week before too.
Then there was the issue of the hot water. By 5pm every evening the taps - both hot and cold - had run dry on the third and fourth floors. That meant no hot baths or showers to ease those aching muscles and we had to go to dinner unwashed after a day on the slopes. NOT good. The excuse? Another missing part, this time for the pump!
There was a revolt in the reception with a 'Well what can I do?' apology from the manager, which resulted in a sign going up asking guests not to all have baths at teatime!!!!
Apparently this hotel was owned by a French family last year and according to one repeat customer, was fantastic last season. This year it has been taken over by Crystal and they are having serious teething problems. The staff is made up mainly of young students who are really lovely and incredibly apologetic - it is unfair that they take the flack when they are all very inexperienced in the hotel trade.
And the reps? One guest in our party booked a private ski lesson through one - then was left waiting at the hotel all afternoon for the instructor to turn up, only to be told that evening: 'Sorry, lack of communication, we couldn't book it!' She hadn't thought of leaving a message in the guest's hotel pigeon hole so she didn't waste her whole day waiting around. Very slapdash.
We were a large party with children and had requested the rooms to be together on the same floor as a pre-requisite for our booking, which was guaranteed. However the hotel said they had received no such request and we ended up on three different floors which was a logistical nightmare. We were given the hotel baby-monitors but hey ho, they didn't work either!
In all? Great skiing - the snow and resort was amazing. But it was blighted by the hotel which was incredibly poor.

Book the Viking Hotel if you have children, because they are well catered for and have plenty of things to do. The food was great, only one meal out of the seven that wasn't up to much. Sometimes they ran out of coffee and cakes in afternoon tea but on the whole, really good. The swimming pool and sauna were great, just what you needed after a day skiing. The staff were excellent, very helpful and great with the kids.
Ski school for adults is literally outside the hotel, so no problem there, but if you have children learning to ski you have to take the lift down to the bottom of the slopes, drop them off , only to see them come back up to start their lessons !! Bit of a waste of time, but if you can ski, then getting the first tracks is a bonus.
The only downside would be that the rooms were small, so not a lot of room for drying clothes etc.
The hotel is due for refurbishment in the summer, so would definitely go back if the price hasn't changed too much from this years.
