Premier Travel Inn Leith

We stayed just the one night whilst visiting Edinburgh and thought the staff were really friendly and enthusiatic (although haven't met a bad Premier Inn employee yet!). The location was good as quiet, being outside the city centre but easy to find and only minutes to drive back into town. The Brewers Fayre next door was cheap and the food was good so didn't have to worry about taxis or making reservations in more expensive city restaurants. Overall, good experience and would stay here again.

The location was the main reason to stay here. There is a big free car park and a bus stop right outside that goes straight to the centre of Edinburgh. It take about 20 mins and there is one every 10 mins during the dat and every 30 mins in the evening. For £3 you can use all the buses all day. There were a couple of problems such as a stained duvet cover an d the lift wasn't working when we arrived but the staff were excellent and very helpfull and the hotal is very clean. We were also lucky enough to have a sea view which really made the stay great value. There is a brewers fayre next door which serves a really nice all you can eat breakfast (£7.50) with really nice staff. There is also a 24hr Asda a couple of minutes away with a cafe but the food here was awful. There are a few pubs within walking distance and Leith is nice too. You can walk but a No.16 bus is a better bet. There is also a big shopping Mall on the way to Leith which also has the Royal Yacht Britannia. Overall this is a perfect base is you are travelling by car and want somewhere quieter to stay but with easy acess to Edinburgh's centre.

The Premier Inn in Leith was ideally situated for our weekend in Edinburgh with 2 children. It backs onto the Firth of Forth, with a great view up the river to the bridges. We chose this hotel instead of a city centre hotel for ease of parking, and then took the bus each day into the city (every ten minutes, ten minute ride through the heart of Leith). The beauty of Premier Inn is that you know exactly what you are going to get. The family rooms allow enough space, and make a weekend away more affordable (£59 per night). The beds were extremely comfortable and there was loads of high pressure hot water. The staff in the hotel could not have been more helpful and friendly. The Brewsters next door was OK - obviously the same as other Brewsters as it is a chain. The menu was acceptable, but the service was very slow. I would recommend eating out in Leith or Edinburgh instead. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast but the staff struggled to keep up with replenishing almost everything on the Sunday morning when it was very busy.

L-shaped hotel with the longer arm facing the Firth of Forth; ground floor with two floors above; wooden construction, contemporary design. Quieter rooms are on the top floor, seaside (most popular side) at the ends of the corridor. Double-glazed windows soundproofed the room quite well from outside noise. The bar-restaurant attached to one end of the hotel faced a small boat harbor and seaside houses in the distance. The restaurant served pub-style food and, till 7:30 p.m., had a special selection from the main menu: two main items for 9 pounds sterling. The number 10 bus (fare one pound ten pence each way; cash into the box beside the driver) went to and from the center of Edinburgh. You could take a pleasant walk to the center (about 45-55 minutes through attractive, residential areas) via Peacock Court, Whale Brae, Newhaven Road and Pilrig Street to Leith Walk, among other walking routes. Supposedly, the hotel will have room telephones installed and flat screen televisions. Since the existing TVs give access to only five channels, the hotel should give priority to the phones.

The room was a typical Premier Inn room so no surprises there. Breakfast was served in the adjoining Brewersfayre pub/restaurant: it was a shabby place, the upholstery on seats was dark, shiny and dirty. Food debris was on the floor and low level window sill from the day(s) before. The windows were dirty and the plaster board walls holed. There was a coin operated gambling machine flashing away. This place is in need of a spruce up. It was such a depressing start to the day. The actual breakfast was OK. I think the room rates were higher (£129 per night (not including breakfast!) due to it being August in Edinburgh but the standards were lower than I have experienced at other Premier Inns. I wouldn't stay there again. Good points: there's both a Lock Fynne fish restaurant and a Prezzos a few yards away. It's on the number 11 Lothian Buses bus route that has frequent services (and a night bus).

We have just returned from a short autumn break in Edinburgh. Myself, wife and eight year old son stayed in a family room on the first floor with a sea view across the harbor and down the Forth. The Forth bridge was visible from our room. The hotel was a good base to explore Edinburgh from (we were using a car, so cannot comment on public transport links) and proved to be a peaceful retreat in the evening. The hotel room for the price (£62 for the room per night) was very good value. The beds were of a good quality as is the standard of all the fixtures and the en suite. There is a children's play area adjacent to the restaurant/bar which is very handy and great for the under 10's. The food served is nothing special, but there are so many places to eat within a few minutes you are spoiled for choice. Do get a room with a sea view as the alternative is going to be one of the car park or new buildings being erected. Would recommend to all who want a great value for money hotel/motel.

Wow what a fantastic find, we stayed here and were delighted with what we got, fantastic room, great free breakfast, great staff, great location. we will be back, dont stay in ed stay here, nice and quiet, on major 24hr bus route, loads of places to eat.

Many would call this Newhaven rather than Leith - if you get a seaview room, you'll be overlooking Newhaven Harbour and the Firth of Forth (and if you don't, you'll probably be overlooking a building site - the hotel is in a former dock area with lots of residential development taking place). The hotel is a standard Travel Inn design. The room decor is functional, and the fittings tend to be cheap (particularly in the bathroom - 80s-style wood laminate panels, noisy extractor fan, lowest wattage bulb they can get away with), but everything was clean and worked. The bed was comfortable and the room is spacious. The hotel is right on the seafront, so if you are facing the sea there is no traffic noise (and unlikely to be much on the other side either). There is a Brewers Fayre next door (which we didn't visit), there are pubs serving food in Newhaven within walking distance, and Leith is within (longer) walking distance in the other direction. The centre of Edinburgh is an easy bus ride away.

Stayed here for an Xmas party in the Leith area. This Travel Inn is exactly what you'd expect - and I'd rather know what I was getting here than take a shot in the dark elsewhere. Big, very clean rooms (our room was on the sea / lighthouse side - it's a stone's throw from the sea). The (ex)Royal Yacht Britannia is across the harbour - 3 mins by car or 10-15 mins on foot. You can pay to look round it. Cooked breakfast (served to table) at Travel Inn is fine - but continental breakfast (help yourself) is lacking in anything other than juice, cereals, jam and toast. No tiny cheeses or ham. I WANT CHEESE. Weakish coffee in insulated flasks. Did not try the nearby evening pub / restaurant, but it's prob OK. Walked to main road, instead, 200 yards away, and went to Peacock's pub / restaurant. Special room, and special small portions, for families and kids. This pub (mainly devoted to eating) is quite brightly lit (not too 'romantic'), and specialises in fresh fish dishes, but my steak pie was very fine, and not a tiny portion. Good, quick, helpful bar and waiter/tress service. If your main aim is visiting Edinburgh, Leith is just about too far to walk, unless you are reasonably fit and haev a winter coat, adn maybe a little barrel of brandy round your neck, for medicinal purposes only. I think buses are nearby (but probably take quite a while - maybe 30 mins?), and I believe taxis are around £8 one way. (Not bad if there are 4 people.) I do not think that there is a train link to Edinburgh. But not 100% sure. Hope this helps.

Our room was booked as a tour package for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. There was no phone in the room (other premier travel inns have them), but that did not present a problem as I have a cell phone. There is a nice pub-style restaurant and bar attached to the hotel and our full-breakfast was included with our room; when staying independently, you would pay about 7.50 GBP per breakfast. Check-in and -out was fine and easy. Cab fare to hotel was approx. 8 GBP from the city centre, however there are 2 bus lines that run downtown. The location is right on the water in a sort of industrial setting. The view from our room was nice. This establishment is perfectly suitable, economical accommodation. Edinburgh is a wonderful city; my honest recommendation would be to stay in the city centre in the Knight Residence apts.
