Mareva Apartments

Me and my husband stayed one week at Mareva apts in mid September, overall had really good experience, thank you to Yannis for hospitality (if you need anything just talk to him and he will sort it out), as for two stars is not a bad place to stay, you can easily have your breakfast in the morning and hit the near by restaurants in the evening as there food is amazing (most recommended Gallini up the hill, we couldn't be bothered to cook as it was our holiday, time to relax), basically for us it was a place to sleep overnight as we traveled around a lot exploring this amazing Island, car rental after high season is really affordable. Will defiantly be back as there is lot more to see.

this was our second year at the mareva apartments, sametime in early august 20011 i have read some reviews about things going missing can not see how this could happen from our times all the staff are great and friendly.the rooms are clean and tidy.this year we thought it was more expensive this year than in 2010 but with the euro not that good at the timebeing.apart from that the bar and people in and around the complex were great thanks yannis for a great time scott/marie x

Well what can i say apart from {FANTASTIC} From the hospitality, too the greeting. It was [awsome] and papas son yiannis WELL we cant thank him enough. he;s just nuts!just for his jokes too his funfilled carryon he gets the thumbs up. overall these family run apts were lovely and so welcoming, rest assured we will be going back.also ,we met some great ppl there 2 who will also b goin back .so 100% mareva

When we arrived n the appartment i fell in love with the place instantly.
it may be basic but going back to the basics was quite exiting my mum managed to make many meals on the two rings we were provided with, we had burgers and chips, toast, ham and cheese toasties and much more.
The appartment is in a great location as well you can walk up the hill for a quite peaceful meal or down the hill into the main town for a more lively night.
The rooms were clean and staff were very friendly, dealing with any complaints instanty and in a good manner,not that we had many complains anyway.
my mum sister and me enjoying the week we had here so much and are planning on coming back for many years to come!
if you are considering or on the border of going here i'd suggest and reccomend it highly!

Make your own mind up, made very welcome,what u pay is what u get, room 14 isnt the best, 13 and 12 r better, (had all 3)overall its good but just needs finishing off,just little niggly things, but if you ask yannis (spelt Wrong)he'll try to sort it,he was smashing, even when my 2yr old neice , became ill,there was help and concern from him.i would go back but i would'nt recommend it for kids under 5 ?

This will be our 3rd visit to the Mareva Apartments, we love the position of the Mareva, inbetween the main resort and the lovely old -fashioned villages up the hill. Best of both worlds. Yannis is brilliant are too all the staff there . The only thing i would say is that there should be extra sunbeds on the spare spaces near the kitchen area and above on the terracing towards the side enterance to the Mareva. There is a tussle for sunbeds if you dont get up too early--- this is the only down side to the mareva to be honest.We are going again at the end of July and really looking forward to our holiday there.

really dont understand previous review.....yes the apartments are basic but thats what you get in greece!the friendlyness of yiannis and his family is amazing,i felt totally safe whilst staying there...everyone staying never had a bad word to stay,most didnt want to go home!the villages of koutoulafari/old hersonissos are beautiful...are well worth a visit....im returning back in june,with my 14 yr old daughter...cant wait!!!!

This holiday was a Nightmare from start to finish i arrived at the Mareva Apartments at 5am in the morning to be greeted by yannis he was ok at first.He took me to my room,as soon as i got in my room he went after none stop taking about nothing interesting.well my room looked like a bomb at hit it the shower room if i can call it that was dirty with grime on the floor,the shower fell to bits the drains stank and they was luke warm water whick smelled awful.the bed was rock hard so was the pillows the sheets where stained and the bed rocked every time i moved.all the light fittings were faulty.and the doors to the balcony if you can call it that never locked properly all i could here is noise day and night the kitchen had 2 rings only 1 worked but it never got very hot and the fridge was about 50 years old and faulty.Also the locks to door was faulty and the maids kept leaving my door unlocked after cleaning, my camera and mobile phone went missing because they left the door unlocked. when i told Yannis about all the problems all he did was laugh,all he was interested in was getting me to spend money in the bar when he found out i wasn't because the way the room was and the way he was he never spoke to me for the the rest of the holiday.I was glad to get away from the Mareva Apartments and go around Crete all i used it for was to sleep.The best time of the holiday is when i was coming home.Crete was ok be these Apartments were the worsed i have stayed in.The other reviews rant on about Yannis but ill tell you this all he cares about is getting money and Chatting up the young Girls as soon as you don't spent in the bar or it's time to go he doesn't want to know.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't go to Mareva Apartments.

just returned from a weeks stay at Mareva apartments already looked into booking again in October for two weeks.Friendly clean and relaxing.A good mixture of young people and families.Yiannis and his staff make you feel very welcome nothing is ever to much trouble,rooms are basic but clean would recommend to everyone.

I went towards the end of July with 6 other friends(all girls) and as we weren't quite ready for Malia we opted for Hersonissos which is a 10mins cab drive away. The Mareva apartments were just what we needed, a room to crash in after a night out and somewhere to shower and get ready. It is a family run hotel and Yannis is absolutely brilliant, an absolute LEGEND in fact, he's so funny! One of the showers broke in my friends room and as soon as we told him he was onto it and fixed it! He was always on hand if you had any problems or questions, and on arrival he even carried my case up the stairs to my apartment for me! The apartment was basic but clean, the towels and sheets were changed frequently during our week stay.
I'd say this hotel is good for couples, families, its not crazy and all day partying, its pretty tame and good for just lounging about the pool listening to music. The pool is really quite small so if you're after something bigger i'd hit the beaches! There is also satellite tv, internet access, and a pool table if you're after those small extras.
As for the resort, there's barely any English, they're all down the road in Malia! Hersonissos is mainly a Dutch resort but there's a fair few Irish there too. The nightlife is still good but we ended up in Malia a couple of times for some MENTAL nights out and guaranteed english music!
Get yourself down to Star Beach, i've never seen anything like it, it's 24/7 party with water sports, foam parties and the infamous beach party where 3000 people dressed in white gather and get CRAZY!
If you're after an absolutely wild week then stay in Malia like we are next summer! But if not this resort is GREAT FUN, try Matrix club and there's some good bars and restaurants around too. The drinks are more expensive in Hersonissos as there's not so much competition between bars, also the PRs are nowhere near as bad as in Malia!
Overall the hotel is great for a basic cheap stay, and the food at the bar is pretty good too. Yannis is an absolute babe, i might even try and repay him a visit this year!
