Westfield was amazing
from PGCOOPER1976
I stayed at the Westfield Hotel for a weekend getaway with the family. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed with open arms. Margaret the proprietor of the hotel made a real fuss and it felt like we were welcomed as one of the family. The hotel itself is a family run business, and this shows with the warm atmosphere and all the staff that work at the hotel were always happy and smiley. The room we stayed in was spacious, clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. I was very impressed with the brand new flat screen TV and access to the freevirew channels again just like being at home. We had dinner and breakfast in the hotel, both were served in the Restaurant. The food was exceptional and service was second to none, the breakfast was waitress service which again I was very impressed with as most hotels these days are just help yourself with no real personal contact. On the morning of check out, Margaret showed us the new executive rooms, what can I say but "wow" they look amazing. I work away alot with business so next time I am in the area I will definately be booking into one of the new executive rooms.
Pleasant and friendly

This hotel is in a good location and the staff were friendly enough despite probably hoping to have some time off over Christmas. The room was fine, if a little dated. A little more attention to detail, for example with the decor or hospitality tray would go a long way. The breakfast was pretty good. A liitle expensive for what we got, but no real complaints.
Lovely port in a storm!

We have just arrived home after a wonderful stay at the Westfield Hall Hotel. What can I say? We arrived in the pouring rain on a horrible stormy late afternoon. We were greeted by Claire who showed us to our lovely comfortable room and made us feel at home right from the beginning. We found just what we needed - lots of hot water, soft fluffy towels, comfortable beds and a lovely cup of tea. Really appreciated the Plasma telly - as that is what we have at home. We chose to have dinner in the Hotel that night - and how pleased were we that we did! After a superb meal we sat at the bar and with other guests were thoroughly entertained by our genial host, Mark for whom nothing was too much trouble. After a very jolly evening, we retired to bed counting our blessings that we had chosen the Westfield Hall. Next morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast, served to us by the delighful Claire. Thank you Westfield Hall for looking after us and giving us a wonderful ending to a horrible day which consisted of driving for 3 hours through torrential rain to a business meeting in Portsmouth which had been cancelled! You really are the best!
a great find!!!!

we had been let down by a neighbouring hotel, and what with a large yachting event going on in portsmouth didnt hold out much hope of staying in Portsmouth that night. we came across the Westfield Hall and right from the start a very nice welcome and a very very nice room! we were made to feel very welcome by Margaret and Mark, and throughly enjoyed our stay. the room was very nice, and spacious, with a lovely bath. all facilities were excellent, they have a nice bar in the lower part of the hotel, that is the restaurant for breakfast in the morning. very nice people who run this hotel that take thier jobs and hotel with a great amount of pride. excellent breakfast to set you on your way. i have stayed in a lot of hotels and worked in a few well known london hotels, the owners at the westfield have it spot on, the "personal touch". parking is great if you cant get a place on the forecourt there is loads of parking around, you are right on top of the promenade, not far from the pier, and a very short taxi ride away from the central city itself. loads of nice places to eat, Gun Wharf is a shopping complex and a bit of a trendy place for eating, pizzas, etc, etc try to get into the city loads of alternative places to eat, and a short hop on the hovercraft if you fancy a trip to the Isle of Wight!!! we loved it so much we are back to the Westfield again this year...
Very Friendly Welcome

We booked at the Westfield Hall after being let down at another establishment. We were greeted warmly, shown quickly to a large comfortable room and made very welcome. The room was clean and well decorated. The receptionist managed to book us a table at a local restaurant despite it being Valentines night (as we had arrived too late for dinner). We enjoyed a very pleasant meal and then walked the short distance to the promenade before settling down for the night. We slept well, there was very little noise and the breakfast was good.
A good hotel... but a little overpriced
from KiwiSeeingTheSights
Stayed at the Westfield Hall for one night (Saturday) in the middle of summer. We thought it was fairly pricey for what you got... paid 85 GBP for the night, including breakfast, and the rooms were fairly basic, especially the bathroom which was rather dated. However, the high price was probably because it was high season, and admittedly all the hotels around there seemed to be charging about the same amount. Good points: The rooms were extremely clean. The people at the front desk were very nice, and super helpful. The breakfast was good. Instead of the traditional help-yourself buffet, you ordered off a menu and they cooked you what you wanted. I had the mixed grill with baked beans, an egg, bacon, mushrooms, etc... It kept my tummy satisfied most of the day! On the Saturday night, we asked where we should go for dinner (we wanted to go out), and the man at reception told us to go to Gunwharf Quays. Not his fault, but when we arrived it wasn't what we wanted at all. It's a big shopping complex with a whole lot of big restaurants and bars (mainly chains). Across the harbour, though, we could see what looked like a very cute little English pub... just the thing! We set off around the waterfront to try to get there, but only made it half-way before thirst got the better of us, and we were forced to take refuge in another little pub called The American, where we had a delicious dinner and a very nice night.

Arrived on a cold and windy day. Owner very helpful in getting us nice and warm with directions to town for luncheon (no lunch served here). Everyone at hotel extremely nice and helpful. Hotel room small but very clean and well-maintained. Owner was quite happy to mix American martini cocktails each evening, dinner was tasty, hot, breakfast overwhelming. Would recommend this highly.
Loved Westfield Hall

I have just returned from a trip with my 84 year old stepfather to the UK. After our arrival in Southampton on the Queen Mary we travelled to Portsmouth to visit an old navy buddy that he wanted to see. I had made our reservations at Westfield Hall and we were not disappointed . Mark and his mother, Margaret made us feel very welcome and we had a lovely stay. Nothing was too much trouble -whether it was carrying our luggage ,making phone calls for taxis, reservations at restaurants or just giving us general information on places of interest. The rooms were VERY clean and comfortable and warm. We ate in the dining room both evenings and enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner on both occassions . There is a smalll bar and we had drinks before supper without feeling rushed . The breakfasts were very filling with plenty of choices and nicely presented as was everything. I never realized that Portsmouth was so full of naval history and is a great place to stay if one is catching a ferry to France, the Isle of Wight or Spain. We travelled by taxi which were very inexpensive. There is also a great train service to London which took just over an hour. Think Westfield Hall is great value for money and provides an alternative to staying in London . Porsmouth has a nice shoppimg area at Gun Wharf Quay with some super restaurants. I would not hesitate to stay here again and hope it won't be too long before I can return.
the worst hotel i've ever stayed
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed in the Westfield Hall Hotel for one night during Nov 2004. The room was very small and the service was terrible. The receptionist was a very cold young lady. She came and opened the front door after five minutes of me standing outside in the cold air. The next morning I was asked to check out before 10:30 in the morning so the cleaning lady would be able to leave early. If not I would be charged for two night stay. I would not recommend this place to anyone if you are trying to have a good time in Portsmouth.
Well appointed hotel

We stayed here for 4 nights in August 2002. The hotel is situated in Southsea which is a few miles from Portsmouth which makes it an ideal place to explore the historic dockyards etc. We booked a double room and were given one with an extra bed. The room was clean and had all the amenities expected of a 3 star hotel. Downstairs there was a lounge for guest use. The hotel was split into two houses. So in the morning we had to go outside to get to the restaurant in the other building. This was ok whilst we were there as it was dry but if it was winter time you might get wet! The breakfast was fine. There was also a bar and evening were available though we ate out.
Nice location. Cab to Gun Wharf Quay £5.30 or bus stop almost outside hotel. Standard double room far too small. Could just about walk around the bed and no where to place luggage. Bed slooping on one side a welcome could have been warmer. Clean and tidy. No lift so third... more
