A very disappointing first visit to Turkey
from AggieAirdrie
A 5 star resort I don't think so, in fact no way, a 2 at a push 3. After arriving at 6am we were given keys and directions to our room which was unclean, but we were too tired to make anything of this, by the time the bell boy arrived with our cases i had already went to bed half dressed, I promptly told my husband not to unpack as I was going to complain to the rep at the welcome meeting. After the rep had finished trying to sell us different tours he took me to reception and asked them to change my room, the girl on reception told me that they were waiting for keys from guests checking out from the ground level abd could i came back after 2PM, I told her I wasn't bothered about being on the ground level that I just wanted a clean room. Big mistake I was being moved from 1101 to 1213, still we made the move the stairs going up to this level were very high and steep, in fact everytime I went up them I had to stop at least once because of palpitations and breathlessness, I am what I would say quite fit anyone with any health or fitness problems should avoid booking this accomodation. As well as the problems with the stairs the hand rails are very low down that you have to crouch down to grip them. On our 1 week's stay there was continuous renovations being carried out and daily deliveries of pool furniture. In saying that the loungers lacked an the all important mattress which one would expect from a 3 star never mind a 5 star hotel. Food was okay the soups were nice and there was always plenty of fresh fruit and salads, some hot dishes, breads cakes and pastries. The bar on the other hand was a task to get a beer, vodka, brandy, gin, raki or wine that was it. I in fact spoke to the owner about the lack of choice for instance my husband drank rum and there was no local equivilant he told me through a translater that he had to pay too much tax on rum to which I replied that surely he had to pay tax on all the spirits and not just rum. On one occasion our party of eight ordered a round of drinks at 22:40 and were told to sit down and that a waitor would be sent over to collect our order by 23:00 he still hadn't returned with our drinks, we went up to the bar to be told that all inclusive was over and that we would have to pay for the drinks, which I duly did, anither member of our party ordered another round of drinks about 20 minutes later and was charged a different amount from me. On the next evening we decided to all go up and get a round each to make up for not being served our all inclusive quota from the night before. Members of staff were taking photos of our table which was pretty well laiden with drinks on their mobile phones and showing them to the owner. Can I just say none of these drinks were wasted. On quite a few occasions they ran out of beer prior to this evening, during the afternoon a couple of times my husband was asked to collect beers from the bar in reception. There was no entertainment until the last 2 days. Personally I think this hotel should not have been open for business to us whether a bargain price or otherwise, until all facilities published on any websited are complete and rooms etc are brought up to that standard which states 5 star . Can I just end by saying that every member of staff with the of one were very helpfull polite and pleasant. If it wasn't for all the wonderful people we met on this holiday this could have been a strong contender for Holiday's From Hell.
whinge whinge whinge
from moanmoanmoan
Just got back from this hotel. The biggest problem are all the whingers staying at the hotel, half of them moved out on day 2, thank god, they were bringing everyone down. The funniest thing was all the people complaining that the gym was shut (these people had clearly NEVER been inside a gym before). Once we got rid of the moaners we all had a great time. As for the food poisoning, I think in hospital this would be referred to as ALCHOHOL poisoning.
Words fail me!!!!

This has been advertised as 5* All Inclusive and should really be 1* All Exclusive. This hotel is not ready for guests at all. The rooms are filthy and our first room was totally inhabitable and eventually, after three moves, we were given a room which was ok for two nights. We only stayed a week and that feels like it was 7 days too many!!! The rep was totally useless and said that he would sort matters out but would then disappear and do nothing!! The food is totally recycled, in that the evening meal would appear at lunch the next day in some sort of sauce or other to disguise it. they even did this with chicken and they have the cheek to display a certificate in reception regarding food hygiene!!!! The executive chef even stand proud outside the restaurant wearing three medals - these are definitely not for cooking more like the egg and sppon race, three legged race and the sack race! To top it all, we were left behind yesterday when the coach came to take us to the airport as my name wasn't highlighted on his list!!! Would never recommend this hotel to anybody and I feel totally sorry for those who are still there having booked two weeks. All in all I would say that 'travel companies' are using deception techniques to advertise this hotel and to encourage people to go there. If we were German, there is no way that we would have tolerated this hotel nor would we have even been sent there in the first place.
**Danger** Avoid At All Costs Until Improvements

Regal Resort Hotel, Torba, Bodrum PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS HOTEL HAS 320 STEPS FROM ROAD TO TOP LEVEL, with NO LIFT. There are 30 steps from the road to reception, +18 steps to the pool/restaurant, a further approx. 38+ steps to 1st floor rooms, a further 39+ to next rooms, 44+ to top pool. Then 2 further levels making 320 steps in total. We stayed at this hotel 3 - 10 June 2007. Firstly, this hotel is approximately 2 stars UK, perhaps 3. Just days before we arrived the hotel changed ownership and most (80-90%) of the staff changed. It showed; pool umbrellas and chairs arrived during our stay; aircon service contracts with maintainers seemed not to exist, no spare room refrigerators, etc. Rooms - variable, basic, poor maintenance, many with non-working air con units, fridge, TV etc Friendly staff willing to please but level of spoken English very low; basic understanding, even at reception, patchy but essentially low. The hotel management team are good, friendly and speak better English but this cannot cover up the hotel's present major shortcomings. the FOOD - repetitive, cafeteria-type. If you want to eat good local bread and simple produce you will be very pleased but the hot dishes were not what most people would expect on holiday. chips, rice, skin-on mass-catering chicken drumsticks in sauce, somewhat gristly meat etc - you get the picture. All-inclusive? Possibly. No ice cream, not much choice, I was very concerned about hygiene (salads & cold dishes displayed at ambient temperature throughout service) Perhaps this is why I was ill ( and I DO MEAN REALLY ILL) for 3 days, 24 hours after we arrived. My wife had the same diarrhoea & vomiting (bacteriological food-borne?) infection for 24 hours and until then we had not eaten or drunk a thing outside the hotel. The pool-bar faces the rooms. The barman & dj seem to run these for theirs & their friends' benefit. ALL DAY AND NIGHT LONG - LOUD BOOM-BOOM DISCO MUSIC. I asked the management many times for a change of music. It wasn't just me - most people felt the same but no one else was willing to complain. I asked for any music, Turkish, English, modern, 'Radio 2' - whatever - but not ear-crashingly loud disco track boom-boom all day (from 10am) until 1am. The dj quietened it down until the manager went home at 10pm then got his revenge with deafeningly loud disco beat until 1am. The man seemed to act like a psychopath. I'm not sure whether he needs sacking or treatment? One night I got dressed at 12.30am and went down to ask for the volume to be reduced. They turned it off! I think it was because I was 'the man who continually complained about it.' So - by all means holiday at the Regent Resort but do so knowing the position:- *Up to 320 steps & no lift, no handrails *Pool unmarked with depth indicators *Food not much better than basic cafeteria *Rooms not in good condition, many without facilities *Patchy communications with some staff, but they are very friendly and most try hard *Very loud music day and night You can see that all of the above, EXCEPT THE STEPS, can be fixed if the intention and effort is there. My advice would be to ensure they are, before you enjoy a holiday in this lovely location. Contact me if you need more details. PSC
Not 5* but made the most of it
from kajagoogoo59
We stayed in June 2007 and have to say when we turned up at the regal resort we were very dissapointed. The website is very misleading. It certainly isn't a 5* but we got a cheap deal like everyone else there at the time and probably got what we paid for. My room wasn't too bad, clean but the bath did leak and it could have done with a good lick of paint!! I did hear of alot of people having to change rooms and hotel for different reasons. If you have trouble with stairs. DON'T GO!!!!!! The food was ok but repetitive. Drinks were good as long as they hadn't run out. No entertainment at all, so if you have children, beware! The turkish bath opened when we were there and was very nice, try one you'll like it. (By the way it isn't free). There were small improvements everyday but i think it will be quite a while before this hotel is up to standard. Having said all this. The pool area was nice, views are great, most of the staff were very friendly and helpful, the weather was brilliant and we made the most of it and had a great time.
WARNING FROM V AND SHANE SEWER IN KITCHEN
from vishaal
i just got back today with my parents and my mate shane and blimey. im going to be blunt this hotels has one of the most beautiful veiws ive seen but.... and the staff try to be so helpful but the harder they try the less they help. there is a sewer line leading to a gutter running through the kitchen . shocking the food all seems to have a black seasoning on it??? the hot water never works they cant speak english there tight with the timing for drinks all inclusive till 11? the cleaner took 10 leara from my table expecting it as a tip. theres no disco theres no games room like sed on the website the rooms are basic they dont turns the slides on wivout being pesterted. they try con you for money they have 16 year old boys serving bear (he will give you half beer half foam) i give it 3 stars and thats being kind cos i feel sorry for that underage bartender that works 20 hour shifts
Open when hotel is ready

I too have just returned following a two week stay in Regal Resort. It is a shame the hotel did not put more time into the opening preparations as I feel it would not have received such bad reviews, all of which are true. For the first few days there was confusion on the faces of all the staff obviously all of whom had just been hired and therefore very untrained, I do not for one moment blame the staff for this, the problem lies at the door of management. Rooms were very basic but were serviced each day, I had to ask at reception to have a 'Do not disturb' sign generated by computer, inadaquate bed sheets provided. Food was repetitive and I agree that it was regenerated from lunch to dinner so maybe best avoided. The bar did run out of drink on occasions and three flights of steps to climb before you even get to reception plus a lot more then if you are up at the top of the complex. Excercise room, games room, turkish bath not open with no explanation provided. All of the above could have been tolerated as you get what you pay for but the choice of music was unforgivable. The average age was approx 40 + and the music choice by the resident D.J was disco dance music and rap music, I don't know where he got the idea that this was what people on holidays wanted, It was the most annoying aspect of all the problems and I would advise the management to insist that this is changed or change the D.J. Would I return to Regal Resort - unlikely - which is a pity as it is in a lovely location and has great potential with proper management.
Teething problems at the Regal Resort
from TullyLondon
I have just come back from the Regal Resort. The hotel is unfinished with workment scattered on site trying to get it ready for the summer. Negative points: No hot water during some parts of the day Air conditioning units not working Rooms rather basic and not that clean Around 50 steps from the entrance of the hotel to the first floor of the steep hill where the rooms start Food rather basic and repetitive No kiddies club No entertainment Hotel in a remote position Unexperienced bar staff even though everyone tried to be as helpful as possible The all inclusive deal stops at 11pm No parasols or cushions for the plastic loungers Pool side showers not working Positive points Views over Torba Bay are lovely Second swimming pool at the top of the hill Hotel staff really tried their best to cater for the customers needs Torba Bay worth a visit and an excursion on the boat trip round the bay was delightful The local bus service stops outside the hotel which goes to Bodrum - something for everyone

Improving hotel?
from Armagh-N.Ireland
I agree with many of the points raised in the review by "disgruntled, North West". I should say though that during the two weeks we stayed at the hotel (left 4th June 2007) things improved considerably and I would have little doubt that anyone visiting the hotel in the next few months will be more than happy. The hotel will never be 5 star by Irish/British standards but I think it will certainly reach 3 star with 2 star accomodation and 5 star service. We had really only paid 1 star prices. Advice 1. During our stay we had one of the "ground floor" rooms overlooking the pool, to get to the room we had to climb over 60 steps from the hotel entrance - so please be warned, you need to be reasonably fit! The top floor rooms are very high up. Advice 2. The "music" at the poolside - Rap/Hip Hop - not sure what its called but I understand its similar to the type of "music" used to break the spirits of Guantanamo bay detainees prior to interrogation. Unfortunately the protections accorded under the Geneva convention did not apply to residents of this hotel we were subjected to maximum sound levels (thump, thump, thump, thump... - no physical beatings though this may come later in the season) for 12 hours a day during week one. Week two saw subtle changes - a reduction in the thump, thump, thumping noises to around 5 hours a day, strobe lighting was introduced and the thumping noises were accompanied by a person of indeterminate sex moving their body to the thumping noises. Sleep deprivation was assured however by starting the thumping at irregular hours 09.20 etc.. "Music" and access aside though, the hotel was OK and will get better. The Dolmus to Bodrum stops regularly outside the Hotel, cost into Bodrum is 1.7YTL, journey time about seven minutes. Market beside Dolmus station in Bodrum on Tuesdays. Fruit/Vegetable market on Thursday and Friday.
Please understand that this hotel has 320 steps from road to top level, with no lift. There are 30 steps from the road to reception, +18 steps to the pool/restaurant, a further approx. 38+ steps to 1st floor rooms, a further 39+ to next rooms, 44+ to top pool. Then 2... more
