I stayed here with my parents and my three young sons on a 1 night break. To say our welcome was frosty would be an understatement. The receptionist could barely raise a hello when we arrived to check in and was mono-syllabic, she seemed to resent us interrupting a telephone call she took whilst dealing with us. She was really unhelpful and unpleasant and then proceeded to watch me struggle to get my children, our overnight bag, a suitcase and their buckets and spades up the stairs to our room with no offer of assistance from any member of staff.
The rooms themselves were clean and tidy although there were holes in the bedspread and the curtains had seen better days - the tie-backs didn't (tie-back that is).
The breakfast was very good with a wide menu and buffet style available too, but yet again, the staff (except for young girl who I think was Polish - she was lovely and friendly) were surly and unhelpful. I got the distinct impression that the staff viewed the hotel as a "cut above" others in the area as it's a golfing hotel and that they most definitely didn't welcome families, especially those with young children who are obviously in an excitable state on arriving at the seaside! I don't have badly behaved children and I do control their behaviour - but equally they are children and it's really irritating to feel that they are frowned upon for talking perhaps a little louder than the mainly elderly and subdued clientelle would!
It's not somewhere I'd recommend for families but if you are a golfer who wants a quiet subdued place to stay (albeit a bit 'waiting for god' though ;-) you may like it!! Don't take the kids or granchildren though!!!
