We have just arrived back from a trip to Butlins Skegness, and we stayed in a caravan on site which we booked off eBay for over £300. We arrived and it was pretty disgusting stayed for 3 dirty damp nights and decided to hunt online for a hotel and stumbled across the... more

great stay at the crown
When staying at the crown me and my mum had a lovely time. We only stayed for two nights but still enjoyed our stay, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the owners of the hotel were very nice and always said hello and had a natter. We stayed in a double bedroom which addmitidly was a bit dated but was very clean and rather nice. In the room was a TV,kettle and hot chocolate, coffee, etc. Another nice thing was that the hotel had two cats-rodger the lodger and blue-who would walk around. They are very friendly and like to be tickled under their chin! One day when our window was open Rodger even snook in!! There is a pool which is free to all the guests,it is very basic but it is nice and clean. The bar was nice and also did meals if you didnt want to go to the resterant. The resturant was very nice and the waiter-Mark-was very friendly! The hotel is about 3/4 of a mile away from the clock tower and is quite an easy walk. On the first day we did a lot of walking but on the second day when we didnt feel like it there is a couple of car parks at the end of the road!! Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would definetly recomend it to others and even go back there ourselves!!!!
Would not stay here again.
Room was dated. TV tiny and bad reception. Kettle dirty. Walls and floors paper thin. Main problem was the disco at a wedding reception going on and we were in a room directly above this. We were not informed of this at the time of booking or at check in. When asked as to when it finished we were told midnight but it was booked until 1am. When we rang reception about 12:30am to see if we could move rooms we were told someone would get back to us - but know-one did. Ruined what had been a pleasant evening. The location was good. Breakfast was average.
Dated but OK
Dated hotel, especially the bedrooms, with blanket and old pillows, tiny TV. Breakfast was OK but nothing special and no vegetarian alternatives. Bar meal was only average, re-heated veg lasagne. I liked the location, about 10 minute walk to beach and 15 minute walk to town centre, in a quiet area. Staff were friendly and attentive. Main problem was that the walls are paper-thin so whole conversations and other noises could be heard from adjoining rooms - not noisy guests, just normal speech, tv, shoes etc. I'm sure there are better places to stay, but it wasn't awful.
Lovley Hotel *****
There were 8 of us all young adults stayed over night and found the staff very friendly and the hotel nice and clean , the food is lovely , would recommend the steak ! only downfall is the hotel is quiet a walk to get town night life BUT only 2 mins in a taxi and only a few quid ! we stayed again on the 31.05.08 this time there were 10 of us , which we found really good as most places wouldn't accommedate us with there being so many young adults *****
Bedrooms Need Revamping
The bedroom was very out of date, cold, dirty and smelt fusty! The downstairs of the hotel was fine and the breakfast was good. There was a lot of noise coming from another room all night which kept my partner and I awake most of the night, there were no night staff around to report this to. I would not stay at this hotel again.
ok hotel
I found this hotel to be clean and pleasant, the rooms had tea/coffee facilities and decent tvs.My only complaints were that the pillows were to soft and therefore went flat and there werent enough provided.the hotel is a little to far from the town even if u like walking! I found the staff to be pleasant with 1 exception which was the short blond woman in the bar who i warn will NOT like you if you are "ordinary" she was blatantly only friendly to those who were in suits and ties and spent the rest of her time drawing dirty looks at anyone who wasnt.I liked the fact there were 2 little cats wandering around the hotel :-)
Average in every way
The Crown is stuck in a 1970s timewarp. The decoration is very shabby - orange wallpaper with dados and threadbare carpets, for example. However the food was good and the rate reasonable. I would have liked some blankets on the bed as it was October and the pool was filthy and freezing too. OK for a couple of nights, but unfortunately living in the past, as many British seaside hotels do. Redeemed by two friendly pussycats resident in the hall!
decent skeggy hotel
Decent priced hotel about half mile form the promanade big car park ,nice rooms, decent bar meals resonably priced and breakfast. we had connecting rooms and a very large bathroom , bath and shower. swimming pool is a bonus
I wasn't expecting too much and wasn't disappointed.
I stayed for 2 nights. The room was spacious. There was no remote control to the TV - I reported this to reception and, despite being promised that it would be sorted, it was not. The radio was either 'off' or 'on, loud and crackled'. Decor is a bit dowdy for my liking. It's used by a cross section, including tradesmen and the joke from the waiter at breakfast to one of them was more suited to a transport cafe. Bathroom was a bit tired too. I wasn't expecting too much and wasn't disappointed.
staying at the crown
Lovely hotel and very friendly and helpful staff, room lovely, although the bathroom a bit tatty, bath panel hanging off. Good bar food and value for money. Pool lovely and clean, booked the hotel because of the pool to keep my daughter entertained in case the weather was poor. Tip for staying, check if there is a wedding booked during your stay, there was when we stayed and the wedding guests took over the garden and pool, some were quite drunk and were jumping in the pool fully clothed. The staff did address this, but we could not use the pool or garden whilst the wedding guests were present. Ended up going to avoid the noise and interruption to our stay. However, if this had not happened, then the hotel stay was good and would return.
