We booked our holiday as a last...
7 / 10
Aug 2004, Miss Z Halsey

We booked our holiday as a last minute thing due to the three weeks of never ending rain suffered back in the UK. We were gob smacked after the booking had been made to read all of the bad reviews on the Internet of the Alexis in Costa Brava. I could have wept when we read such complaints of crap food, rude staff, noisy rooms etc etc. But you have to remember that we didn’t book it with Thompson or Virgin who guarantee their own 3* or 4* ratings. It was a chance to get away to the dry and the sun for 70% of what you would normally pay to go on a Thompson or Virgin package holiday.
We sunk back in our seats and concluded, what would be would be and a holiday is always what you make of it. We normally spend between £1500 and £1800 for our family of four to get away for a week in a 3* all inclusive and we had only paid £1200 for 8 days.
When we got there we wasn’t totally disappointed. The sun was shining the staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. The food was ok. As with all buffets, it wasn’t for all peoples taste buds, but there was always enough variety to find something that would fill you up.
You can’t please everyone, and here are my views on all aspects of the holiday for all ages.
BEACH - It was only at the end of the road. It took us no more than 5 minutes to get there and that’s with two children and a push chair.
SHOPS - The main centre where all the shops were situated was just before the beach, so again could be reached in less than five minutes. There were also loads of bars and restaurants mixed in that were not too far to go but were also far enough away not to disturb you later on at night.
NIGHTCLUBS - If you head over in the opposite direction there were plenty of clubs and bars to party the night away at. These were probably a ten minute walk to, but again were far enough away not to disturb you later on at night.
HOTEL ENTERTAINMENT - Not the best, but always had a disco, dancers etc on from 9pm until midnight.
STAFF - Were great. Very friendly and helpful. At the end of the day, if your rude to them then you don’t get a good response, but if your polite then you get a good and friendly response back.
POOLS & JACUZZI - Not great for adults with kids over 8, but ideal for adults with small kids. The pool on the roof was great because the kids could play without you having to worry about them all the time. The roof was also a great sun trap and with the bar, made it a perfect relaxing point for a morning or the afternoon.
If I had paid £1800 I may have been a little disappointed for what I got for my money. For £1200 It wasn’t the best holiday I have been on, but as people say "you get what you pay for"
Happy holidaying

Very disappointed with hotel, poor...

Jul 2004, Mrs J Roberts

Very disappointed with hotel, poor pool very dirty [you could not see the bottom of pool very cloudy and smelled strongly of bleach] in fact it wasn’t a swimming pool it was a Jacuzzi pool and a kiddies paddling pool, the main pool was on the ground floor crammed into a corner near the roadside! Food was ok [average] apart from when my sons kept being told to not take so many chips! [only when they ate alone] bar/restaurant staff very rude and unpleasant, the entertainment was absolutely pathetic, and apart from a few evenings of paid entertainers coming in for about 30 minutes, it consisted of a 'kiddie disco' every night until midnight!
Rooms very tiny and badly needed improving, 3 single beds crammed into a small space [I had my 16 year old stepson in the same room ] no 'balcony' only a mesh platform that looked very dangerous [only 1 person at a time could stand on it] and it overlooked a scruffy alley at the side of the hotel. There were no windows in our room so it was always dark and we had to have the light switched on in the daytime. The air conditioning was only switched on occasionally, and was turned off at night [unbearable stuffy heat and lying on plastic covered beds!]
We were able to book a day at the other hotels in the resort
These were fabulous hotels, but we were made to feel like the poor relatives by the staff! So we only went to one of them
I would not return to the hotel Alexis even if I were offered it for free! And I certainly would not recommend it

As I arrived at the hotel Alexis in...

Jun 2004, Not Specified

As I arrived at the hotel Alexis in Lloret at 1:00am I was so disapointed. I was told by Hello Hoildays that the hotel was on the beach, (so I expected one of these fabulous hotels that you see on the front of the beaches.) in fact it was a five mintue walk from the beach. Then I walked into my room! and asked my friend who I travelled with, what is that noise? I walked out on my balconyand there was a great big generator or boiler im not sure what it was, all I know it must have been over 15ft long and it made a hell off a noise. The noise from this kept us a wake all night, and as you can imagine the view of this thing out of your window was awful, along with us facing a brick wall.
The next morning we went down to breakfast which wasnt that bad! It was the best meal of the day. dinner and super was appauling, we both ate chip butties every day. We also sat at the same table evey day, and out of the four days we was there they changed the table cloth once, as it had the same marks on it from the day before, another guest seen them turning the table clolths over and not putting clean ones on.
After breakfast we went to see the swimming pool down stairs it was in a dark small corner with a brick wall around it, and a platform off four foot up the one side of it. The other side had nothing. You could not relax by it and it got very little sun shining on it. So then we went up to the pool on the roof. I could have cried there was a small paddling pool, and two small jacuzzi's (one diddnt work).I wasnt impressed at all, but it was a good sun trap. The good thing about this hoilday was the fact that you can go to other hotels, as it is part of a group, and they was all lovely, but this was like staying in a 1 star hotel. The only thing I could say that was positive about this hotel along with every one I spoke to there was the bedrooms was clean, and the drinks was refreshing.
Every person in the hotel was told that it was on the beach and expected what i expected, and also shared the same feeling I have within this report.
