Fantastic!!!! But that's just my opinion. This hotel well deserves its 4 star rating, the food was a la carte serving an amazing choice 5 course dinner every evening. The hot and cold buffet breakfast was varied serving typical continental style and home cooked breakfasts. The views from the rooms are spectacular as the hotel is south facing and well situated within the centre of the resort.
The staff were among the most efficient and friendly I have encountered, having worked within customer services for over 10 years at a senior level, I am quite a critic when it comes to service. The staff at this hotel surpassed themselves! My husband had his credits cards stolen on the first day we arrived in resort outside a bar. The hotel staff arranged lift passes, ski hire and our child’s ski tuition on our behalf.
Having arrived on Saturday the banks close until Monday and we had about 20 euros for the whole weekend and would have missed the first few days skiing, if the hotel would not have assisted. Needless to say we are now big fans of the French and hope to return back to the hotel and resort this Xmas!

L'Ours Blanc can only be described as doing 'exactly what is says on the tin' 4x guys sharing a small but comfortable hotel room (2x bunks / 2x pull out sofa beds) have more than adequate facilities, even a dishwasher.
The best thing about the L'Ours Blanc is the location. Great for a short stroll to the lifts in the morning and even better for staggering home from the pubs in the evening. O' Sharkey's Bar being a popular choice with the tourists and locals, providing great interaction of the circ 1980 fussball table.
The staff at L'Ours Blanc were kind and courteous and were available to offer help and advise on any subject and occasion. Would not recommend if you were trying to impress the other half, not great if you are trying to impress the better half - however comes top of my list for a 'cheap as chip' week away in the winter. Well done L'Ours Blanc. See you soon.

Alpe d'Huez is a fantastic place to ski. There is a wide range of skiing, which suits all abilities. There are lots of lovely little mountain restaurants to stop for lunch and enjoy the beautiful scenery and soak up the sunshine. For those who don’t ski there are numerous other activities available.
The Royal Ours Blanc is a 4 star hotel, which serves excellent food. The rooms are spacious and well appointed and there is a swimming pool too! We went at the end of the skiing season and my only criticism is that the hotel was obviously winding down as it had sold most of its more reasonably priced wines! <br>

Heating is not a problem in the bedrooms. They are always warm and kept very clean. Not all rooms have undergone refurbishment so some can appear a little scruffy e.g. our one had loose tiles in the bathroom. However, the rooms are well stocked with shower gel, shampoo, soap, cotton buds and tissues. The shower pressure is very powerful but the bath tub (above which the shower is installed) takes quite a while to empty so you will be standing in water by the end of it.
The reception staff were friendly but not particularly efficient. We discovered our room safe was faulty, a fact which the hotel was aware of but failed to inform us about at check-in. We were offered no alternative solution. Similarly, when we realised our ski slot in the ski room had no lock on it, the hotel had no spare one and we had to wait two days for one at the point another couple checked out of the hotel.
Perhaps because it was the start of the season, reception staff seemed not to be familiar with all hotel details/charges but they were at least polite which made up for the lack of efficiency.
We were very comfortable in this hotel and used its shuttle service to get to and from the pistes which were only a 3 min drive away.
Advice: did enjoy it but still prefer the Austrian resorts as feel their slopes are better maintained
Activities: loved attending the Christmas service at the local church
Good for: Ski
