Avala Hotel Reviews

Jun 2007, Mrs C Marvin

The brochure description of the Hotel Avala in Budva was illustrated with a photograph of a large banjo shaped swimming pool. This picture was one of the main reasons I booked the hotel, it looked so beautiful. This swimming pool was in fact demolished in February this... more

Luxury in Avala villas!!!!
I´ve spent a week with my co-workers at Avala Villas and it was beautiful. The villas are like a suite - on first floor is the livingroom with balcony with furnitures. On this floor you also have a guesttoilett. On the bottomfloor is the bedroom...beautiful, also with a LCD-tv. The bathroom is BIG with a great bathtube and a seperate showercabin, toilett and a bide. On both floors in the villasuite there were AC. We ate breakfast in the restaurant besides the villas and not in the same restauran that the hotelromguests eat. The personal was so kind to us and I will go back with my family soon. Go to Avala resort, but choose the villas!! They are so great!!!! Spoil yourself!!! Love, Mia from Sweden
loved the avala
Have just returned from the Avala Hotel when 1st arrived terrified as had read all previous negative reviews. After walking through the reception which is still to be updated, we were led into one of the most beautiful hotels that I have ever seen the rooms were fantastic and beautifully clean. The swimming pool was one of the best I have ever been to, not only were towels provided but towelling gowns, the views from the pool were stunning. If you fancy a midnight swim visit the small pool located near the villas this is illuminated perfect for a late night swim. Our stay coincided with the Budva music festival, what is everyones problem? the music was pleasant and finished by 11pm each evening. The Avala is perfectly situated for all amenities in Budva, The far end of Budva is where all the music is so if you are young this is where it all happens,Try the Trocadero or the Maltese Bar .If you are like us try the bars nearer the Avala they have music which is all 70s and 80s Both of us being in our early fifties found this great as we could sing and jig along without our kids laughing at us. dont listen to negative reviews TRY THE AVALA and Montenegro.
Major overhaul in progress
June 2007.Have just had a week at the Hotel Avala, Budva, travelling with Saga Holidays. Had seen reviews and read in the Saga brochure that it was tired and needed some refurbishment. This is now under way. The whole place is having a complete make over, this started last year and is due to continue for about 18 months, according to the management there. It will be absolutely stunning when complete. There are brand new split level villas on the hillside. The hotel building is being restructured. All the old rooms are being ripped apart and re-built.. The level of furnishings is fantastic and very modern. The front of hotel, reception and dining areas have not yet been done, so are still very daunting. Unfortunately for our group, the outdoor pool was not operational due to building problems and the indoor pool no longer exsists but they have built a brilliant new infinity pool within the villa area, with an adjoining bar. I was allocated one of the villas and would advise against anyone booking these if they cannot cope with lots of steps. There are some escalators and steps to ascend but only steps to get down to the main hotel building. I had 182 steps down!!! The building work goes on, they start very early and work right through till late evening, so it gets quite noisy at times. Hotel staff very friendly and Budva a lovely place to stay, views from the rooms and villas are stunning. Would like to visit again when all the work is completed but probably will not be able to afford it then!!!
An honest review of the Avala Hotel
The Avala Hotel in Budva was updated by the Russians and the overall look of the place verifies this. It is a large concrete looking place with very out of date decor. The plumbing leaves a lot to be desired, toilet seats loose, taps dripping and bathrooms not particularly clean. The food is plentiful but apart from salads and fruit very stodgy. Staff are kind and helpful but really can do nothing to enhance a holiday here. Rooms overlooking the main square can be dreadfully noisy especially if there's a music festival taking place. This happened when I stayed there and I only had about 4 hours sleep at night. Would I stay at Avala again.......never
+o(
We have a big group of 20 people, and I think everyone of us agrees that the facilities do not match the 3-star description. Someone on this page has said that when you see hotel Avala, run away and don't walk. That was right, but we say: "FLY AWAY!!!!!". There are many other places to stay at in Budva - several apartment hotels and new-built hotels - they are just not so easy to find. If there really is no other place to stay, hotel (or motel) Avala is a good place. Ditto
Drab but great pool
Recently spent a week in the Avala. When we saw our room, have to say we were severly underwhelmed. Facilities are basic to say the least and everything is a bit shabby. Carpets were a bit grubby. We had a problem with shower which we had to report 3 times and finally ask to be moved to a new room. The problem was that we were made to feel like we were being unreasonable! If you can live with the above, there are 2 main advantages to staying here. Firstly the outdoor pool is great. We found it difficult to tear ourselves away from it. Secondly you are a stone's throw from the old city which is where you'll want to spend all your time (as opposed to the other end of Budva which is extremely tacky).
Tired and Leaky
As with some other reviews, we wondered a little as we arrived at the entrance and were more disappointed each step of the way. The whole hotel felt a little less than fresh and certainly did not resemble the internet description. The meals offered were drab and served in a fluorescent cafeteria setting. We are heading to Budva again in a couple of weeks but will be looking for better accommodation.
Disappointed re the tired Avala Hotel
On first site of the room we were amazed ,the floor carpets were dirty and stained with what appeared to be chewing gum todden in , there were no plugs for the bath or wash hand basin no hair dryer and no fire instructions in the room. The mattresses were old and covered with a thin pallet. the bed linen and towels etc were o.k. and changed every day and the staff were very nice. and we did obtain plugs hair dryer and fire instructions, after complaining. If you do not like pop concerts at the weekend you dont want to be here because we witnessed one {with a festival} whilst we were their, and beleive its a regular occurance through the summer, In its defence it is idealy situated on the square, the staff friendly and the food was good but we will not go there again. Booked through Saga Holidays and date of visit 2nd to 16 May 2006
We loved the Avala
We stayed at the Avala Hotel and loved it. The rooms were super clean and the hotel well maintained. Everybody was very helpful. English was commonly spoken. The hotel is very-well located. Right in front starts the old walled city of Budva, a very charming well preserved quarter. A couple of minutes away, walking on a coastal passageway, are the MOST neautiful beaches on the Adriatic Coast; Mogren I and Mogren II. Absoluletly magnificient! What I really enjoyed is the strip on the coast that boasts trendy cafes, bars, discos, all kinds of stalls and restaurants. It is very lively at night! It's a perfect tourist destination for those that want to have a good time and party on beautiful beaches for cheap. For those that like to stay in their hotel rooms and prefer rocky beaches to sandy ones, then Dubrovnik is not far away.
Run, Don't walk away from the Hotel Avala
After spending a week in Croatia in Aug 05, we ventured across the border into Serbia/Montenegro. We had pre-booked a room at the Hotel Grand Avala in Budva as we were told it would be very busy at that time of year. After a day of sightseeing in Sveti Stefan, we decided to check in at the hotel and enjoy a dip at the pool...we had no idea what we were in for. As we approached the hotel, it looked okay - a little run down, but okay. When we entered the lobby and saw the outdated decor, I became concerned. I asked to see the room before checking in and I was so happy I did this. The "seaview" room was overlooking the alley, the once-white carpet was grey and the sofa in the room had stuffing coming out of the uphostery! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. My recommendation is to stay an extra night in Dubrovnik.
