Low budget hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from hotel Dania. We booked a last minute deal with Topflight and the Dania is their overflow hotel. The rooms are very basic but clean, the food is also very basic with the breakfast being quite awful. The shuttle bus runs only Three times a Day the last being at 17:30. The last bus from Sorrento is 22:50 and the taxi drivers will try and charge you 25 Euro after that time. On the plus side, the pool is quite nice but a little small and the staff were polite and helpful. We went last minute so we got what we paid for. I would recommend staying closer to Sorrento. DS
heaven in Italy
from Seggie
our stay at this hotel was truly magical. the paint may have been peeling but we might not have noticed due to the absolutely fantastic view accross the bay of naples the sunsets were unbelievable. My husband and I still dream about sipping Cointreau and lemonade on a swing seat as the sun sets over Capri. Yes we were allocated a table in the dining room but this is normal practice in Italy we have stayed in numerous hotels in Italy and have always been allocated a table. The food was excellent very italian which is why you go to Italy isn't it? However we were sitting near two women from Scotland who 'just fancied chips and fried egg' the waiter had this cooked for them without any fuss or extra charge. We used the complimentary bus service yes we did have to book it but it was FREE. The rooms were basic but clean, the area around the pool was very small but there is also extensive terrace and gardnens.
Fantastic Views...........

Just returned from hotel Dania with Jules Verne travel and found hotel extremely clean & well looked after and although room was rather basic the towels were changed every day and there was constant cleaning going on but then it was the first week of the new season. Fantastic views around the Bay of Naples from the panoramic dining room. Most people were moaning about how chilly it was in the evening at the Dania but this obviously would not be a problem in the summer months. We found the continental breakfast to be very bland with the same bread rolls, squares of cheese and ham, yogurt & jams somewhat boring after a few days and we ended up paying 4 euros for some bacon & eggs by the 5th day. Coffee was undrinkable and actually tasted like fence preserver and what is it about Italians, we never had one decent cup of tea in the whole week, do they know how to boil the kettle or do they purposely make it tepid in case you throw it over yourself and try to sue them for third degree burns!! Hotel Dania is okay if you have your own car as its a bit out of town and when we were there the bus service into town was okay but getting back late at night was a problem as the buses seemed to stop running after about 6.30 and with taxi drivers wanting to charge about 17 euros for a 5 minute ride up the hill it can be a bit expensive. Do visit the small fishing village some 15 minutes walk through the lemon grooves as it is to die for, we had our lunch on the last day at a table the cafe owner put out on the small beach for us. Superb. Try the little pizza place opposite the American Bar just down the road, the owners a real character and with pizza for two with every vegetable you can think of on top, salads, a bottle of the local red wine & coffee came to 32.50 euros. Staff were friendly at the Dania and although we enjoyed the break I would certainly not go back to Sorrento in peak July/August as I should think trying to move around with that amount of traffic on the roads it would be horrendous.

We stayed at this Hotel based on some quite encouraging reviews but to our cost found that their comments were not what we would have stated. This hotel is quite decrepid and in urgent need of refurb, the rooms are tiny and the woodwork is rotting. Upon arrival I asked the guy at the desk why I didnt have air con as per my request and he curtly replied that I hadnt asked for it. he then said that we could have the air con but at for a charge- bearing in mind the cost of the room I found this to be outrageous - so I declined his offer and thankfully the nights were not too hot. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Sorrento with a gorgeous view over to Capri and a lovely walk through an olive and lemon grove to the marina of Poulo which is non touristy mainly Italians and nice and quiet. This is the plus side of the hotel I would say. The public bus service - just 200 metres away - is excellent and we found a day return ticket to anyway in the Naples area both for the bus and the train to be very cheap. The staff are ok but as stated the waitress lady at breakfast wants you to keep at the same table for the whole of your visit so I smiled at her politely and then proceeded to sit wherever the fancy took me. breakfast is the usual croissants etc and the coffee is realy nice. Although it didnt spoil our stay in Soreento beacuse we were out and about most of the day it was not a welcoming sigght when walking back to the hotel from the bus stop to see this carbuncle placed at the side of the road. I would not stay at this hotel again.
Don't go there

We stayed at Hotel Dania with Travelspere on their Sorrento & Sciliy holiday and were horrified when the coach pulled up outside. The outer decor is in direr need of repainting and modernising as are the guest rooms internally. Our friend who travelled with us as a single was alocated little more than a cupboard as a room, she burst into tears and woulds have been on the next plane home if it could have been aranged. Our room had rotting woodwork to the windows, cracked tiles in the bathroom and a light in the hallway that flickered when you closed the bedroom door. The hotel is to far out of Sorrento to capture the atmosphere of the place which my son tells me is magical in the evenings. The food was average at best and the bar staff inexperienced.
Honest Opinion...

Just returned from a two week stay at Hotel Dania. We were allocated accommodation on arrival which can be quite nerve wrecking so when we got to the hotel we came to the conclusion that things could have been a lot worse. The hotel is in dire need of modernisation and the rooms and bathrooms are tiny but clean. The small staff are helpful and friendly and the hotel is situated in a quite hillside part of Sorrento with lovely views. On the downside, the hotel has some quirky rules which we and a lot of other guests found amusing. In the dining room you are allocated a table (which you share with other guests) and are expected to stay there for the duration; school dinners spring to mind, food is dreadful and I wouldn't argue with the woman! It's not for honeymooners or those wanting a quite romantic break as they may feel obliged to make conversation twice a day with other guests. I wouldn't reccommend that anyone walk into Sorrento day or night as the traffic and winding roads are very extremely dangerous, however, there is a good bus service two minutes walk away (€1 each way). Air conditioning is extra but necessary in August, sunbeds cost €5.00 a day, the courtesy bus must be booked at breakfast so we didn't bother and all these extras add up...I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anybody, next time I'll pay a few euro extra and get a nice place to stay in the wonderful Sorrento.
WONDERFUL - Could Not Ask For Better!
from CUMBRIABLONDIE
Just returned tonight from a week in Hotel Dania, Sorrento. Could not have asked for better service - friendly management; good English spoken at all times and staff who work hard and will do anything to help you. Whole hotel exceptionally clean; air conditioned room; very helpful staff; beautiful views including panoramic view of bay from dining room; enjoyed company of other guests; friendly bar service; good and clean pool facilities; snacks and full evening menu available. Regular local bus service every 20 mins, car not needed; wonderful take away pizza 5 mins down road, opposite American Bar; lovely local walk to harbour - make sure you visit Massa Lubrense, Sorrento shoe shops and Capri. Pool has comfortable loungers free of charge and only one warning - watch the ants round the poolside, they nip and bite as is true of most places in this area!Cannot recommend this hotel enough - fantastic value for money - wonderful!
Perfect hotel for its rating

We stayed at the Dania for a week in June, on a trip arranged through Voyages Jules Verne. The hotel is situated in an ideal location close to town but away from all the noise. The local bus runs every 20 minutes for the five minute ride to town, although you may wish to walk, but beware it is all uphill on the way back! The views from the hotel are wonderful and there is a pleasant pool and terrace. We didn't eat at the hotel as there are so many restaurants in town to try. But those we spoke to who had done said the food was good. The staff are very friendly, as this is a family run hotel they try to assist at all times. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The rooms were a little small, but well maintained and clean at all times. However with so much to do in the area, there is little need to spend time in your room. Should I return to Sorrento I will stay at this hotel again without hesitation. Whilst in Sorrento I looked at various other hotels, most in town seemed to suffer from traffic noise. Unless you are looking for the facilities of a four or five start hotel you should not be dissapointed by the Dania.
super location, 15 minutes walk from town

After reading some critical reviews of this hotel by people who appeared to have been allocated on arrival with their tour operators, it was with some trepidation that we arrived. We and our friends had booked with VJV who presumably get the best rooms as both couples had... more
