To start with the food, it really wasnt' the same every meal, there were a fw dishes that were the same, e.g chips and fish fingers or chicken (if u can call them that) nuggets, but there were plenty of other things to chose from as well such as muscles, pastas, potatoes, different meats in various sauces, plenty of different fresh breads every meal, soup in the evening which was nice, lots of fruits, and if u like salad then you'll be happy because there is a huge salad bar...all in all i found something to eat every meal and i really didn't starve, especially as there's a handy cheap supermaret over the road and the restaurant enxt door is nice. The worst meal i actually ate, or didn't eat, was at the a la carte restaurant, out of five courses there was not on ethat was nice... To be fair, the 'private' pools wren't totally private, but they are not a long stream either, many of them are divided by bridges etc, and to be honest, there was a divide on one sside of our pool and the people next door were never in it so we had our part pretty much to ourselves which was plenty big enough. and the rooms where we stayed, behind reception, were convenient as there was a grass courtyard and sunloungers where we stayed most of the time. The beach is not dirty, but it is not sandy at all, it is pebbles, and to be honest, is you're wanting a sandy beach don't go to this side of the island at all, because it is the east side that the sandy beaches are to be found (Hotelocean blue is noth west)... The airport is very close, which is convenient when you arrive and are eager to get there, the planes do fly over very low and are pretty loud. they didn't really bother me, but i can imagine that some people would be really annoyed by them. No more than 15-20 planes fly over in a day though, so spread out over 24 horus there really aren't that many to be bothered over!... The hotel is very clean and tidy, the outside staff are very friendly and are always working hard although reception was sometimes a bit of a pain-they like to take their time!! The pools specially are very very clean and the main pool is quite warm. The pool didn't really get that busy, but we didn't go there when it was probably at it's busiest around midday. We didnt really watch much of the entertainment, althoguh on our last night they had some professional looking flamenco type dancers who seemed pretty good. the bar area inside and around the pool, is really chilled and relaxing, and quite a nice place to hang around at night, there are plenty of comfy seats to sit and just chat etc... A visit to rodos one night is well worth a visit, especially to get a homemade ice cream. if u can find it, there's one particular shops inside the castle area which makes it's ice creams into shapes of animals (see photo) and their ice cream tastes reeeaally good-especially mint! Overall our holiday was pretty good, maybe cos we didnt let things liek the planes bother us, but we also didn't really find anything to complain about. there was no problems with air con or leaking jaccuzzis from our room! (only thing was the shower nozzle wasn't long enough to stand up with, and there was no curtain or glass anyway. oh and the glass between the bathroom and the bedroom is so frosted u cannot see through it unless u press right up against it!) We had no probleem getting a late checkout from our room which cost us 50uros to stay until 6 an then hung around the hotel and could still eat the food etc. A good holiday, especially considering the price we paid for it, probably wouldn't go back again though, not expecially because of the hotel, but mainly because of the location (no sandy beach, and want to go to a different country next time!)
Glad to get home

Having read other reports on Tripadvisor for this hotel I like some cannot help to wonder if we were at the same hotel. My wife and I booked understanding that it was 5* when it was in fact only purporting to be 4*. In truth it is a poor standard 3*, even taking into account the lower Greek rating standards and the fact that it had clearly opened too early and was not fully finished off. When we arrived we were in a Superior? double room with private pool (as booked). It was a small room with a large clear window between the bathroom and bedroom, weird. The pool was very narrow, approx 1mtr deep and shared by 9 rooms. Not very private as it was also next to the main pool. On the second night the evening entertainment started, poolside. Was it noisy, we slept through the aircraft noise but not a chance with the entertainment noise. We demanded a room change and after another night were moved to a room away from the pool area. This was a larger room and the window between bath and shower was at least frosted. The private pools were shared but only by 2/3 rooms per pool. the pools were larger and slightly deeper. A point to note, during our visit there were no Fire Alarms in the room simply a hole in the ceiling and wires where we presume it should have been. Additionally there were no fire evacuation procedures posted in the room. This was certainly a quieter room in terms of the entertainment but unfortunately the aircraft noise was much increased although in the main you do get used to it. The restaurant, where do you start. Perhaps with setting your own table. In 35 years travelling abroad we have never had to do this. The food, Break fast was quite good although not hot, lunch was below average and evening meal was appalling. All food was warm to cold. If you like pasta and sauces then there was always something on but I cannot vouch for the quality as I never had it. The food was so good I had Chip Butties lunch and dinner on 3 consecutive days. They have a show cooking station where they cook already cooked mushrooms or heat up and season already cooked pasta. Few guests visited this area until lunch on our last day when they cooked various kebabs. this was the result of manager and I had words a couple of nights earlier. This is an all-inclusive hotel, we spent 600 Euro (1000 in total) more than we ever have at an all-inclusive hotel. Example: Free Ice Cream - Between 3 and 4 pm - 1.5 euro any other time. I can only remember 1 hotel in my 35 years travelling abroad, many times twice a year, that comes close to matching this one. Not to be recommended - an experience that will be difficult to forget.
Why all the moaning!!!

We spent a weeks holiday at the ocean blue in June 2007 we are a couple in early 30's. We arrived early in the morning at about 6.30 am after a 7 hour delay at Manchester airport we were very tired, thankfully the room was ready. We stayed in a superior room with private pool right opposit the main swimming pool. The room was lovely and clean and big enough for both of us can not falut the accomadation . The food was fine pleanty of salads and fish etc but as with most all inclusive hotels I do tend to get bored so we ate out in RhodesTown a couple of nights The planes that fly over the hotel are low but you dont notice them after the first few! The hotel is in a very quite spot so this holiday is not for people in their early twentys who want plenty of nightlife!! The only downside was the sunbed situation ,every morning I had to get up at 6.30am to put the towels out, I dont agree with this but I had no choice as there arent enough to go around I dont know what some people expect as this was a cheap holiday and for the money we paid I thought it was great, I would return.
Wonderful holiday

Dear all! After reading poor reviews about this hotel we were apprehensive about our trip. We are a couple in our early twenties who had saved hard for the holiday and flew out in early June. On arrival at the hotel in the wee hours we expected not to be able to check in until noon, however the staff were very kind and showed us to breakfast while the maids prepared our room as fast as possible. We had booked a double superior room which was very pleasant with a balcony front and back and a 'private pool'. This was small and separated from the neighbours by a wee bridge - but big enough to float around on your lilo and read tour book if you did so wish. A man arrived to check our air con was working which it was, and a girl popped round to check we were satisfied with our room. The room had a smart bathroom with an excellent jacuzzi bath and fluffy dressing gowns and slippers were provided - so far so good! We had booked an all inclusive deal - the first time we had done this, and were pleasantly surprised by the food - it is NOT all fish fingers and chips as other reviews state - but lovely fresh feta salds, fruits and vegetables, a wide range of breads, tasty pastas and hot meals. As a vegetarian I did not struggle one bit and my partner also enjoyed some meat fresh from the bbq. Breakfast was a little greasy for the cooked food but fresh fruits, greek yoghurt and bread was lovely - worth getting drinks from the supermarket. Occasionally we ate out in Ialyssos or Rhodes town for a change - especially recommended is a lovely taverna in the old town named Mama Sofias - if you see it try it! The pool at the hotel is really lovely for swimming and the gardens are pretty stunning, leading down onto the beach. The sunbed situation did however get really frustrating - if you want a sunbed get up at 6am and pop out to put your towel on it - but don't do it if youre not going to lie on it or you'll be as bad as all the others! The hotel setting was fine - 5/10 mis from Ialyssos town and yep - right on the flight path - but you get used to it, besides if it wasn't for those planes no hols to rhodes could exist! The entertainment was ok but for a couple in their eary twenties Rhodes town is much more lively - get a bus from outside the hotel or the main road for 1.80 euro each - the last bus back to Ialyssos is around 11.30pm and takes around 15mins. All in all a lovely holiday - recommended to couples and families of all ages, the all inc deal is worth signing up for as it really helps to keep a budget and doesn't stop you eating out! And it is definitely worth iupgrading to a superior room if funds allow. One last thing - the patisserie at the end of the track leading to the main road named Vanilla Choclolate is absolutely divine and so cheap, and the icecream&sorbet shop opposite is stunning! Enjoy!
NOT 5 Star !!
from AlanPNotts
Hmm Where do i start .O.k i give a brief over view then go into more detail .Im writing this 3 hours after getting back. The total party size was 3 , Me 40,my Wife 37 and our daughter 8 .Just so you know our family is basically working class we are not picky ,but we expect standards and other people to behave to them as well . We booked a Double Superior Room with Private Pool and All Inclusive .We stayed for just a week . O.k All the Bad bits first . 1. We arrived at around 1am ish there time ,excitedly and worn out wanting to see our 5 star experience ,basically coudnt wait to see the pool and room .We were met by a not so english speaking sort of caretaker ,who told us to follow him .This we did he took us straight over the road to another hotel ( without explanation ) also owned by same company so we were told .We were being taken to some room that had no pool .Basically it wasnt what we had booked and hairs on back of neck began to rise gggrrrr .We have been thru this type of thing before and to be honest we are ready for it now .So we straight away turned round went back to Ocean Blues reception and said here we stay until you put us in the room we booked as we are not moving .After alot of arguing we had to give in and accept the room over the road till the morning .The morning came and reception staff were there ,we got straight into the same argument " no you booked standard room " as soon as they said that we exploded only to be proved correct when they hastily fetched our hotel voucher sheet from over the road , if they had misplaced that sheet we would have been in alot of bother proving we were correct .No apologies followed ,no extras were given and we still had to wait another 1/2 a day before we got into our room . 2. The PRIVATE pools are not private !! .How they get away with advertising this i dont know .You basically share your bit of pool with the next door neighbour and you HOPE they have the sense to keep to their bit .I must admit people generally did .But having said this the pools do bring problems .We had a couple of 20's move in later in week .There very first night totally drunk brought loads of friends round at 2 am in morning. They parked infront of our room ,shouting, swearing and jumping in our pool .My wife spoke to them reasonablly to be quiet ,this made not the slightest difference even though we mentioned we had a young one .Our room was very near reception who did nothing at all about it .And i have grave concerns for those going in the main summer holidays as the teens will be numerous then . 3. How people can say this beach is beautifull i really really dont know .The beach was totally pebbled and had loads of litter and trash all over it . 4. Lots of people putting in complaints , leaking jacuzzis ,flooded bathrooms ,air con not working , 5. Now this brings me to the 5* drinks cabinet .They tried to charge us for $30 of stuff we had never touched .My wife and i have clicked what happens here .A hotel worker checks the fridge the day BEFORE you leave .Well the same as i said to my wife once he has checked it there free to have a freebie on the last day people can take what they want .That then leaves the poor soles in next to argue about the bill .We did avoid paying the bill but we spoke to others on the same row as us and they were in the same position .So my advice is check your fridge straight away to what should be in it and go straight to reception if anythings missing . 6.The restaurant table cloths are not properly changed ,basically they get way with what they can even tho there are flies in the room .If there pretty o.kish its a shake onto the floor and put it back on the table .Even though those lovelly flies have done there vomitting trick on them . 7. Phew the last day . We were not given any choice of keeping a room on at all not even over the road lol .So we were out at 12pm and we didnt leave till 11.30pm by taxi to airport .We were given a shower room shared also by others so you had to wait your turn, this really irritated us after losing our room for half a day .When it was our turn the towels we had to use where what others had been using they were absolutely wringing wet thru from other peoples sweat and grime.Real 5* performance that was , again we complained and got fresh towels brought down .But the point is it shouldnt happen. O.k the good bits . 1. I thought the AI food was really good people annoy me who go abroad and expect al a carte on AI packages .Yes the food was a bit repetitive but its very nice and cooked properly no upset tummies to report at all .The wine is on the cheap side but o.kish and that goes for most of the drink to be fair . 2. The pools are spotless the not so private pools and main pools are immaculate and there cleaning them every day .If only they put that effort into other places . 3. Entertainment team were good ,but they should have a few more pro shows on . 4.The Superior rooms were clean and the cleaners do a great job .i did though think the fittings would have been better . O.k it sounds like i really want to slate this hotel , i dont and in truth after all of this happening i would still say we had an average holiday .The trouble is i was expecting a great one from looking at the newly refurbed hotel and pics .I think the manager has put alot of effort into the LOOKS side of things .But you dont have to scratch the surface hard to see the cracks and there wide .It really boils down to there isnt enough staff and there trying to get by on the cheap where ever they can .This all causes problems on office side of things ,lol the receptionists do the massages and there not free neither like it states .The massage is free but you got to pay bucket loads for the oils . If your reading this and you have paid your money ,you will have a fairish time honest .But if your reading this in a view to booking then please dont not for a very very long time .The hotel has not got its act together at all altho i do think its possible to go and not have a hitch and if so it would be a good holiday .I hope your the lucky one we werent and lots more besides .
This was an airport runway!
from rhoosey
Where do I start! We booked a room with a private pool and what we got was a small room with a stream that was shared by nine other rooms - hardly private. The hotel is not finished and work is constantly being done around the hotel, I am sure it will be for the better but I think we should have been warned this was going on. The food was awful, it was always the same night in and night and day out and was constantly running out, there do not seem to be enough people helping out. Drinks were constantly running out and when it is 90 outside you really want a drink! The 'animation' team were so noisy very late at night and for those of us who wanted a relaxing holiday we did not get it. Oh and one other huge point I should mention the hotel was on the flight path to Rhodes airport so the planes were really low and very noisy, the hotel is only one and a half kilometres from the end of the runway!! we certainly were not expecting that.
good time at the Ocean Blue
from lee_g4
hi all me and my partner have just returned from a weesks stay at the Ocean Blue Hotel in Rhodes. we are a couple in our early twenties and looked on trip advisor before booking at this hotel, we think we have some useful ino to share with people thinking about booking this hotel. HOTEL - The hotel iself has undergone a major reburb and is still not quite finished, all of the rooms are finished and the pool area and restaurants are done but the reception area is still being worked on. this didnt bother us at all, i suspect this will be complete in a month or two. the hotel gardens are lovely and seating area's are comfy and relaxing. you have to wake up at 5.30am in order to get a sunbed round the pool. when i woke up at 8am all the beds had towels on them, this got pretty annoying when these people didnt come and use their beds until the afternoon and i had to sunbathe on my lilo! ROOMS - We booked a double superior room with a private pool. the room is pretty standard but has everything you need with a few extras (cd player, bathrobe, slippers, jacuzzi bath - very small with an overhead shower which had no glass or curtain) the private pools aren't really private as you share them with the rest of the rows of rooms. our airconditioning wasnt working properly when we first arrived and it took three visits to reception until someone came and had a look, after that it was fine. FOOD - The food was horrible! If you like fishfingers and chips everyday for your dinner then you will be fine but dont expect much else.i dont class myself a fussy eater and I wouldnt touch the food, all the salads had flies flying round them! there is a very nice and reasonably pric ed restaurant next door which i highly recommend, chicken, slads, pizza's, souvlaki and omlettes were all greatly appreciated by me! DRINKS - the drinks machine was broken and tasted of chemicals while we were there and only fixed on our last day, we had to buy our drinks from the local supermarket for the duration of our stay STAFF - all the staff and maids were very friendly. the amination team were great. they tried to get you up but didnt mithefr if you said no. ther DJ in the evening was very good and played a great variety of music The hotel isnt in the best of locations and is directly in the path of landing planes, that didnt bother us at all, we actually enjoyed awatching the planes come into land! You will need to get a taxi into Rhodes Town (12 euros) and Falaraki (16 euros). the beach is pebbles and difficult to walk on but the sea is lovely and clear. all in all we had a great time at the Ocean Blue, some teething problems but things that im sure they will sort out once enough people have complained! it is most definitly not a 5* hotel, more like an okay 4*. i would be intruiged to go back in twelve months to see the improvements. i hope this reveiw doesnt put people off staying at this hotel, we had a great time, just had higher expectations than what we actually got. i do hope that the teething problems are sorted out and that the hotel gets the 5* that the staff work hard for.
Best Holiday Ever This Hotel Deffienately Deserves The 5 Star Rating ^_^
from Calboi2k7
Hi everyone !! Just had an amazing holiday at the Ocean Blue in Rhodes. The food was very good and thats something coming from a fussy teenager like me :P I stayed there with my parents in a standard room with a sea view but please not when you book a double room for 3 adults its just basically a studio with an extra bed but that didnt ruin the holiday at all ! The rooms were spotless only problem was the shower leaked alittle and it was alittle difficult to use the shower at first ive never seen a shower with so many buttons in my life :O Planes flying over the hotel was basically 24/7 and they flew very low but you get used to them and enjoyable to watch on a sunny day and at night when your in your room you do really hear alot of noise from them so not a problem at all. The entertainment team were very lively and energetic trying to get you invloved in as many activities as possible such as morning stretching, aqua aerobics, table tennis and french bowls. All meals in the captains restraunt are served as a buffet and there is an extremely wide selection just wish it was labled better but because it wasnt labled i was trying new things that i probably would never of dared to try which was really yummy !! For parents please not for children there isnt a great selection but they usually have chicken nuggets and fish fingers on a few days a week and some chips but they are usually replaced by other potatoe dishes every other night. The private beach which the hotel is situated on is full of pebbles but is absolutely beautiful ! Free sunbeds to all staying at the ocean blue and you can take drinks down from the bar also you can take drinks upto your room if you wish. Staff were very friendly and you could chat away for hours to them plus they gave you tips on where to go around rhodes and what to do. When going into old Rhodes town please beware there are many people trying to ripp you off for example if you see this bar selling massive glasses of drinks and big boots of beer they wont give you a price but for me and my family we had 2 bears and a fruit drink which came to 50 Euros so please take care. We never seen our holiday rep once during our stay but we didnt mind the hotel staff made up for it. Oh aye !! when we arrived in the hotel our suitcases were taken for us and we were given a glass of champange which made the hotel seem soo posh but everyone there trys to make your stay the best as they can !!
Generally good with rough edges

June Accommodation: Double standard room / All inclusive Generally a good stay. I have seen a number of comments relating to the superior rooms although I did not stay in one I have had a look around one. These are basically the same as the standard rooms but with a pool area which is not completely private outside your room. You seem to get slightly nicer fittings. On arrival we received a decent welcome with champagne etc. The hotel definitely looks as good as it does on it's website. The double standard rooms have the following. Twin beds, hi-fi, tv, fridge (didn't work brilliantly needs your card in the room to work) Jacuzzi (suitable for two smallish people ;) we had a balcony with ours which the top floor does not have. Generally the rooms are good but I would not say they are 5* 4* maybe. The rooms where cleaned every day, and if your in bed they will keep coming back though the morning to give them a clean. Air con is not included except through july and august from what i could see, tbh we did not need it in the middle of June although it was warming up. The all inclusive was pretty good. The drinks aren't watered down, expect to pay for cocktails though. Breakfast and lunch are pretty good and you get a decent spread. The evening meals where very ok.... some of the food was not nice and I would recommend trying some of the local restaurants’ for the evening meal which we soon started to do. When you arrive you get a voucher for one free al la carte meal at the Italian restaurant, the food there was pretty good but not fantastic. Definitely worth using the voucher though. There did appear to be a lot of activities going on at the hotel for those who like to stay there and keep busy. I can’t really comment on these as didn’t take part. The staff where all very friendly and helpful at the hotel. The only staff who did not appear to be was the manager himself, not directly to the guests, but to other staff who where obviously understaffed at the time. Have to say the bar staff where great! The hotel has some pretty outside grounds and there is a fair space for the guests to get some peace and quiet. There could have been more loungers as the usual German mentality was there. You do however have free loungers on the beach which is basically next to the hotel. The beach near the hotel and on the left handside of the island is pretty good, don’t expect much sand though. The only other thing is that the water is not very clear so snorkelling is not ideal. If you want some clear water head to some of the bays on the right hand side of the island, definitely make a visit to Rhodes old town which is about 15 mins away and to lyndos which is great and well worth the drive. If you are doing a late deal as we did then just get a taxi from the airport to the hotel, it should cost about 10 euros. Otherwise you may end up paying £50 for a transfer for a 10 min drive. All in all we enjoyed our stay there, but probably would not go back there again.
Super Holiday !
from JamesKrulijzer
Hello, We are a Belgian family who stayed for one week at the Ocean Blue at Rhodes. We were there with our two children. I must say we had a wonderfull holiday. Foods, drinks, animation, rooms, swimming pools are super. I believe that people who went there before (one year ago) were disappointed because i've seen some pictures of the hotel before renovation. We will return, that's a fact. We made lots of English and Dutch friends. The charme of this hotel is that it's not a big hotel. The capacity is 500 people, during our stay ther were 300 people. It's a good hotel to relax. So don't believe the bad things they say about te hotel now, you should go there !

I have found a "gem" of a hotel on the quieter side of Rhodes island in Fanes Bay. Ocean Blue describes itself as the ultimate hospitality and it certainly lives up to the claim, the rooms are expertly furnished and a quick view of the suites shows luxury at its best. The... more
