Comments:  We have just come back from a GREAT holiday. This was the first holiday abroad for the two youngest children so didnt know quite what to expect. There were 4 adults and 4 children of ages 2, 4, 13 and 16. We arrived very late at night after a delayed flight and on reception the lady said they had made us up some food in the dining room (even though this was shut they had laid on a meal on a plate for everyone). Everyday the hotel staff were really friendly and always made a point of chatting to the children. The rooms were really clean and tidy and our rooms were made up most days (only when my son hang the sign on the door saying please do not disturb they didnt come in). We were on the third floor overlooking the pool which seems to be the best place as I have heard that if you are overlooking the road at the back the noise can be a bit too much at night with a night club nearby. We didnt have any problems at all overlooking the pool. The food was fantastic!! There was so much to choose from and the deserts were amazing! The one thing that did make us laugh is that at about 8.30am there was a que inside the hotel to get out to the pool! We would watch from our balcony and it was like charge of the light brigade. At 8.30am the doors opened and they were off! Everyone running to grab a sun lounger and lay their towel out on it, they then went back inside to get breakfast before returning later. We never joined in and can honestly say never had a problem getting a space by the pool somewhere (even if it was in the shade). The hotel was in a nice walking distance to the beach and we went to a nearby water park which was also a great day out. All in all everyone had a great time. There was entertainment for all ages (even the adults) and the youngest children loved joining in with the disco and then bingo. I would definately return here again and would have liked to stay longer.

Comments:  We stayed at this hotel in Aug for the 5th consecutive year. We have 2 girls aged 7 and 10 and they both really enjoy the kids clubs at the hotel. This year was no exception. The kids reps are great with all kids. David the golden hotels entertainer is excellent with the day/evening entertainment. I didn't think much to the 2 Thompson reps Kelly & Sarah compared to last years entertainment. They lacked enthusiasm and were often rude and abrupt. The food in the hotel is lovely. I can be a fussy eater but there is so much choice every evening and lovely puddings! The hotel is clean and very friendly. The rooms are ok and are cleaned daily with fresh towels. We have always been lucky with a pool view which is quieter than the roadside. Portaventura is a must but buy your tickets online 14 days for the price of 3 days, also the evenings are cooler and quieter. Salou is very busy high season and can look tacky! The shops sell the same items etc but the fountains along the front and the bars are lovely. Idols bar is good for kids and cheap! Tarragona is a lovely place to visit on the bus it takes about 20 mins, has beaches, shops(large shop mall) and restuarants. We also used the hotel next door Port Salou which is a golden hotel same as the Avenida. This has 3 swim pools and a spa. The spa only costs 5 Euros for a session and was extremely relaxing whilst the kids were taken care of in the Thompson kids clubs! I would definetely visit the hotel again. My one negative point is that when booking Thompsons charge an under occupancy supplement as there are not 4 adults in the 1 bed apartment that we booked, upon speaking with the rep Amy she confirmed that 4 adults cannot sleep in one of these rooms as the 4th bed is only suitable for a child under 12. When querying why the brochure charges each family no one could advise why??? This needs amending.
A fantastic holiday and a great hotel.

Comments:  Well... where do I start? If anyone rates this hotel below 8 out of 10 there is something wrong with them (a whinger in my books). We only returned yesterday (2nd August 08) and I am slowly sinking into the UK blues - to make matters worse it's pouring down today. However, let's get back to the hotel/holiday review. I have 2 children ages 6 (autistic boy) and 3 (little girl) and they both LOVED the holiday and hotel. We only booked the holiday on the Thursday and flew out on the Saturday for 1 week. We checked out the hotel and reviews on websites like this and took all the comments on board, so it's important to get the correct message across regarding the Golden Avenida Park Aparthotel. It's fantastic, nice and clean, lovely rooms, great staff, superb daytime activities, and an excellent swimming pool complex. Though we were only SC we ate at the hotel after listening to the "half boarders" raving about the food - and they were right in what they were saying. Long gone are the Spain holidays where you pay 2 Euro's for a long drink - the prices there are now similar to the UK - so you will pay 2.8 Euro's for a lager, 3.5 Euro's for a large soft drink and over 4 Euro's for a spirit. We barely left the hotel during the day as the kids loved the swimming pool, similar to us (wife and I) taking a liking to the happy hour (now 4PM to 5PM - buy one get one free). On an evening we ventured out to the promenade and strip of restaurants - we would then return to the hotel for the evening entertainment (Bingo @ 9PM and Singer/Illusionist/Acrobats/Lord of the dance @ 10PM). All in all a brilliant hotel that we'll be looking at going to again next year. 1 week was just not long enough, we were devastated when we left yesterday afternoon. Never mind - we had a great time ! I'll now look forward to reading my wifes review.

Comments:  Had a fantastic holiday - would recommend hotel if you have energetic kids like mine.

Loads to do around the pool when kids needs to be entertained. Water Polo, Basketball, badminton, volleyball in the pool and also a sand pit behind pool to play other sports also nice playground area for older children and also small one for infants. My kids loved the cocktail games around the pool, ball in bucket, darts etc which got them out of the sun for a few minutes. Also table tennis in shaded area, my boys took their own bats as they love it in the UK so saves you hiring out bats, not sure if hotel knew mind!!
I used to enjoy Super splash keep fit which is nice and refreshing when the suns out, good Thompson reps, Kelly and Sarah - nice girls!!

I must also say that David (Spanish) entertainer was absolutely F A N T A S T I C so funny and really nice person always doing something different. My husband used to particpate in absolutely everthing, starting off in the mornign with Archery (over 18s), he loved it brought out the competitve side of him.

We came back to Salou as my eldest boy wanted to go on all the rides in Portaventura Theme Park as he was too short last time we came. He loved it, the faster and higher the better, I must admit I just watched but it is great fun and lovely surroundings and loads to do. We purchaed our tickets in travel agent which entitled us to 50% off the Caribre Aqua park which is much cheaper than doing it when your on holiday.

The food in hotel was lovely, loads to choose from, lovely cooked breakfasts, however they could have more kids PLAIN food in evening if you've got fussy kids like mine!! Ana who greeted us every day is SO SO nice, lovely and friendly like a mother figure, however the waitresses could do with a smile on their faces the male waiters were lovely though and the chefs always seemed pleasant, excellent artistic work on their food - well done.

I was always able to get a sun lounger and we never queued or placed our towels on floor at 7.00 am unlike many Brits I am sad to say - what is all that about - sad. Also I have 2 childrenand 2 beds was plenty for 4 of us as you are not all lying in the sun the same time, there are so many greedy people out there trying to take every bed EMBARRASING and SAD!!

Would recommend hotel to others, however I would ask for room overlooking pool as others have said the other side can become a little noisy but hey you are on holiday so that cannot be helped.

Finally, reception staff were freindly and our cleaner was SO nice and helpful really trusting and would come back if inconvenient, fresh sheets and towels everyday and rooms very clean and comfy beds. Rooms lovely and cool with air con so was able to get a good nights sleep

Thanks for a lovely time!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments:  Only been back a week after having a great holiday in Saolu and staying at a really nice hotel 'The Golden Avenida Park!' What a clean hotel and the rooms are ideal as there set out for self catering, fridge, toaster etc
The hotel and staff come highly recommended. polite, friendly and at all times willing to help whenever they could. The reception staff should take most of the credit as their English and local kowwledge is excellent!!
The food was nothing fancy but cooked nicely and to everyones taste. Salou is expensive for eating out and gets very busy at night so i would reccomend paying for the HB and eat out as an extra treat, you'd still save money I'm sure.
Portaventura park is very good but you must buy your tickets before you go as you will not get a better deal on the gate! We used www.attractiontix where you take your voucher and ID to the gate and they then printed off our tickets for 7 days continuous use. Children do need to be above 1.4m to get the best of everything. Stay for the firework show but get a good view point around an hour before.
Salou can come to life at night and especially at the weekends as the locals seem to park around the hotel, we had a couple of wakefull nights but only because we were road side and they would sing quite loudly between 3-5.30am when they were heading home... there was no trouble and the hotel has security.

Comments:  the stay at avenida park was amazing it was the best holiday i have ever been on, the entertainment was brilliant especially the entertainer david he made the daytime activities really fun, the rooms were very very up to date and top notch i would probly say the hotel needs to be more than a 3 star, we didnt have any of the foods as we went self catering but it spelt absolutely delicious, the day time food that they served was gorgeous and service was within 5 minutes (foodwise) overall i must say that i would really really reccoment avenida park to all people they also had really good childrens clubs during the day which meant that parents could have time to themselves for a couple of hours the kids clubs were from 10 in the morning up until 5 in the afternoon depending on the age range.

Comments:  I have just returned from a holiday in salou at the golden avienda park and this is a great hotel.

I travelled with my wife and 3 kids (9 years, 6 years, 18 months) and it was the first time that the kids had been aboard, so we carefully picked the hotel and resort based on websites like this one.

We booked the holiday as self catering but upgraded to half board on arrival. This cost 270 euros for 6 days for us all and turned out to be a great idea. The food in this hotel is brillant and there is a lot of choices for all tastes. It is also far cheaper to upgrade on arrival than to pay for half board through thomsons.

The rooms in the hotel were good and spotlessly clean. Also the maids changed the sheets everyday and were very friendly and seems to love kids.

The hotel it self is very family focused and they have a huge amount of activiates for the kids to take part in day and night.

I emailled the hotel before I arrived and asked for a room on the third floor which faced the pool and although they never replied to me I was given the room on arrival. This is the best place to be because you do not hear the nightclubs.

The bar prices in the hotel vary a lot and although a pint of lager was 2.75 euro (about 2 pound) a malibu and lemonade was 4.80 euros (4 pound). So it is worth going to the half hour between 8 -9pm each night when it is 2 for 1.

Overall I found Salou to be a lot better than I expected and did not find it dirty or full of lager louts. It was great for the kids and all the locals were very friendly. The hotel was just as explained and I would have no problems whatsoever recommending this hotel to my family.

Port avenitura was brilliant but ensure that you purchase your tickets before you go as it is a lot more expensive at the gate. Although my kids are a little young for a lot of the rides they still had a great time walking about and seeing the different areas. Also the firework display on a Saturday night is not to be missed. You can walk to the park from the hotel and it takes about 20 mins, but it is uphill going so please bear this in mind if you have young kids. You can get the train bus for 9 euros (2 adult, 2 kids) or the normal bus for 6 euros (2 adults, 2 kids).

Finally, I believe this hotel is a great choice for any people with kids, but it would not suit groups of men or women as it is geared towards entertainment for familes

Comments:  Had a wonderful fortnight in Salou. Weather was amazing, only 3 minutes of rain in the whole 2 weeks. The Golden Avenida Suites were fabulous. We were with our 3 kids - age 9, 11 and 13 - who all had an absolute ball. The daily entertainment programme catered for all ages and interests and the simplistic games meant even the youngest children could join in. There were daily activities in the pool for those a little more sporty, including water volleyball and basketball, along with a daily aerobic workout for those with a little more energy!

The apartments were clean and relatively spacious. The maids were in cleaning every day and any problems were sorted almost immediately.

The entertainment staff and kids zone reps were fantastic - making sure everyone got involved and had a great time. The evening entertainment programme was second to none - with acts such as Riverdance, tribute bands and some amazing acrobats from Bejing.

Overall, we would rate this hotel and holiday experience 10/10 and would definately recommend it, particularly to families.

Comments:  I have just come back from a holiday in Golden Avenida.
I also went there two years ago. I am fifteen.

Good Points: Lovely food, different food everynight. The reception staff were excellent and very helpful. Theme park was brilliant, (Easily walkable from the hotel) Room was immaculate, cleaners were very persisstant and polite. The pool was cleaned every morning and there was always a lifeguard at the edge of the pool(which I thought was excellent). Nice size pool with a shallow end and a deep end. Entertainment in the nights was fantastic. Situated pretty near to the beach and shops etc. The bar staff were lovely always polite and chatty.

Bad Points: Two or three of the holiday reps were very impatient and rude. I thought they were the worst holiday reps i have ever seen on a thomson holiday. One rep actually said to a young boy "if you hit that boy with that blow up shark again, Ill wack you over the head with it" and she said this on the microphone. Also while i was doing one of the daily quizzes, where the holiday reps read out the questions, I couldn't undersatnd what she was saying so I asked her to repeat the question. I couldn't hear her again, so asked her again, she said aggresivly "WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN?" But one of the holiday reps was fantastic with the children. Pool was a bit cold. Had 4 days of Rain but you can't control the weather.

other than this I highly reccomend this hotel. Best Points - Quality of Food, all staff in the hotel and Theme park.

Comments:  I travelled with my husband and three sons for a week in May. We could not fault the Golden Avenida in any way. First impressions when walking into reception was very clean and welcoming. The reception staff were very kind and friendly and give advice on anything you need to know including ordering taxis. The rooms were the usual basic style, but very clean and adequate. We had a room by the road, which was noisy during the day, but did not really bother us at all a night. We got cheap flights to Reus with Ryanair and booked the rooms direct with Thomson, it worked out excellent value as we paid just under Ł500 for the flight and two apartments for a week! Our boys are teenagers and there was not a great amount for them to do, but it seemed that all the families with young children were very well catered for. The Thomson reps did all they could to entertain everyone on the couple of rainy days we had. The pool was a bit cold but that is only to be expected this time of the year. The food at the hotel was excellent. you can purchase meal tickets daily from reception or for the whole week, but we found the best way was to see what range of meals they were offering each day from the menu displayed in reception and then decided whether to eat in the hotel or not. The breakfast is excellent value 6.00euros and evening meal is 14.00 euros. Great selection of food, well presented. A good place to eat is Uncle Sams American Diner, great value and large meals. Also we ate a a couple of English Pubs, one especially the Fox and Hounds was very good. I agree with the previous comment that Spain has got really expensive. In the hotel a Malibu and Coke costs 4.80 euros, not sure if it was much cheaper in the bars in the resort. Salou itself was OK, I should imagine the beaches are very crowded in high season. Lots of the usual souvenir shops which sell the same stuff. Port Aventura is great day out for all the family. Would definitely go back again, but not with teenagers. All in all a great hotel, especially for families with younger children.

Comments:  just come back from a 2 wk hol in the golden avenida hotel and what more can i say but WOW!!!!! the best and cleanest hotel i have ever stayed at, there was 2 adults and 2 children aged 5 and 2 and we all thourouly enjoyed it, the entertainment for the kids which starts at 8.15pm and 9 for the adults was amazing, no cheap tacky entertainment all well worth seeing and the kids really enjouyed it.

Theres loads and loads of stuff for the kids to do during the day 2 which was very helpful as we had 4 days of rain. the only prob was we had to wait 2 hours on arrival to get into our rooms coz they wernt ready in time, but luckily for us it was really hot that day.

Rooms are basic but clean the maids come in everyday to make up the beds and empty the bins and change towels if need be, the rooms were clean and tidy and the hall ways were clean and tidy to, after all we wernt staying at the hilton so what more would you expect. excellent service and the hotel itself was so clean that you could bery easily eat your dinner of those floors, im thinking of hiring some of the cleaners or buying their good guide to cleaning book ha ha ha

althought we went self catering you can buy meal tickets and eat in the hotel restaurant if you want which was brill for us coz our kids are fussy eaters and the food was absolutely gorgeous and very well presented with loads of variety (which kept my partner happy as hes a gannet)

the entertainment staff are brilliant and work very hard to make sure that every1 is happy with the entertainment, and david the hotel entertainer is so funny i would have bought him home to keep my kids entertained constantly if i could.

close to the beech, shops and restaurants, the beeches are brilliant for the kids and salou seems to be a very kiddy friendly place with parks and climbing frames scattered everywhere even on the beech, how good is that.

overall a fantastic holiday 10/10 and i would have no hesitation in putting this hotel in the 5 star catagory. we have booked to go back nexy year but a little later as the weathers okay in may but would be better a bit later on. salou is buitiful and would suit any1, deffinately go there if you can.

thats enough of the essay now, sorry folks got a bit carried away in the moment!!!!!

Comments:  I went to Avenida Park with my husband, my three year old daughter and family members. I cannot rave about this hotel enough as the service from the hotel staff was brilliant. We went half board and the food was absolutely gorgeous, there was a great deal of choice and i couldnt fault any of the food, i would say 5***** food!
The room was clean and the room maids came every day. I asked for an extra blanket and it was there within minutes, (it rained when we went and was a bit chilly of an evening). So even though the weather wasnt great the hotel made up for it.
My daughter loved the dancing hour with " Thomson the dog " etc; the hour 8-9 which was also happy hour at the bar (2 for 1, grrreat).
This was our first holiday in 6 years and although the holiday was great i realised that a holiday in spain isnt as cheap as it used to be!
Anyway not much else to say apart from i think we will be going to avenida park again next year as i was very impressed, oh and just one more thing..... If you have never been to peurtaventura theme park make sure you do as it is brilliant ( great for the adults and the kids) p.s Ive been told that it is cheaper to buy your tickets online before you go rather than buy them when your there. Happy Holidays !!!

Comments:  I went with my wife and my 2 daughters which were 9 and 3 years old.

Staff in the hotel very good and helpful the members of the Thomson team were also very good, my 2 children loved the kids clubs and the hour between 8 - 9 for the party dances.

Food was also very good and restaurant and kitchen staff excellent would not be out of place in a 5 star hotel.

The pool was very good for the children with a large shallow end for the young children and the other side was the deep end for all the older children to dive and play about in the children’s parks were also very nice. Plenty of room around the pool no probs for sunbeds but we did go out of season.

Port Aventura is fantastic a must for every child even very big children they go from the most hair raising to the gentle and relaxing. That’s all the good points over now the bad points.

The room we had was a duplex room on the top floor the room was VERY BASIC, the furniture was uncomfortable to the point where you could not sit on the sofa because it was too uncomfortable after 5 minutes. The room needed a total refurb there were holes blocked up in the walls and the furniture looked very shabby.

The large hall was like going back to Butlins or Pontins in the early 80's even though it was clean it need to be updated. Lime green was the colour of the room.

The cleaners came in every day with a broom towels and mops, they changed the towels when needed left sheets for us to change our own bed under the sofa, did not use the mop and broom once in 2 weeks DO NOT LOOK UNDER THE BED that have not been cleaned since Adam was a boy, it was stinking.

Location of hotel was ok. Reading an earlier review the person said about the bald head and tattoo brigade yes they were there puffing themselves up trying to look the bad boys of the hotel.

Overall the hotel was ok due to the staff and food otherwise I would have wanted to be moved. I am disappointed with Thomsons as the try to say they are the best and the hotel rooms were so bad.

Kids had a fantastic time in the hotel and if you don’t mind very basic rooms this hotel would be ok for you also. If you decide to book this hotel there is one word of advice DON’T LOOK UNDER THE BED.

Comments:  Our party of 2 adults and 3 children really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We went for 2 weeks and from start to finish it was really nice, reception staff were really helpful and friendly.

We had a family room which was really big, my only fault on this was the fact we were on the 5th floor and with having a child of 2 year old didn't really think this was a great idea so you had to have your wits about you but we didn't spend a great deal of time in there so wasn't that much of a problem. However we did find this hotel really really loud with other guests dragging chairs around and shouting and screaming in the hall ways any time day or night.

The food in this hotel was excellent we did book our holiday as self catering but ended up buying a meal ticket at the hotel which was great value, and yes its true what you hear they do serve chips for the kids everyday but its up to you if you let your children eat them or not.

The pool at this hotel is the best, there was a slight problem with mattress for the beds you had to go out early but not a problem with beds there was always plenty there.

The entertainment here was brilliant from early morning right through the day till the evening. Well done everyone.

The resort of Salou is about a 5 to 10 minute walk which we liked to do after our evening meal. We did go to the beach which is very nice but very busy not ideal if you have young children that like to run around as there isn't a lot of space.

A few good places to eat if you do go out there's one on the round-about which if you come out of the hotel doors turn left and walk straight up its there, a green sign just up from there is Uncle Sams really really nice food here.

Have to say the resort is a bit smelly but overall I would go back to this hotel again in the future.
