When arriving at the Golden Avenida Park my first impression where that this was going to be a good hotel and worth the money and I was right .The hotel was clean and tidy and was cleaned everyday by maids.
There was lots of entertainment in the hotel but this was only really a nighttime thing. The bar was very enjoyable and the waiters were very friendly and reliable, also very sexy MARIUS, JULIAN hmmm. Yes, there sexy shame Julian had a g/f though.... But I did have a very enjoyable experience with a certain Cambridgeshire boy no names mentioned:) but I cry now that I will never see him again.
So overall, the holiday was brilliant.

This was the second time we had stayed at this hotel, the first time being in 2001. This has got to be one of the best hotels myself, partner and our four children have stayed in. The 2 bed apt we had was very spacious, it was cleaned 6 days a week with bed linen being changed 6 times a week also. Many of the staff were the same as when we visited 2 years ago. The English speaking receptionists were excellent at arranging for a doctor to visit when we needed one for our 3 year old daughter. He arrived within 10 mins!!
Continuous entertainment throughout the day with a variety of shows in the evening-a snake show, Mr and Mrs avenida along with the usual rep entertainment. Israel was the person who did the majority of the entertainment and he was a real credit to the hotel.
Not too many bars in Salou itself which have things going on for the kids so we tended to stay at the hotel which the kids were quite happy with as they had made a group of friends.
Swimming pools both excellent, no faults at all
Although we stayed on a self catering basis, we did eat in the hotel restaurant several times and the food was to a very high standard
A great hotel, which I would definitely recommend

We were very pleased with this 3-star ‘Aparthotel’ having selected it after much Internet reading from recent visitors to all the similar hotels in the area. It was the only one where no one had anything bad to say about it.
The apartment was clean, had a brilliant clean power shower with hot water 24 hours a day, was only 3 mins walk from the main drag and buses to Port Aventura theme park. Though we had no need of much contact with the reps, we could judge that they were excellent from comments from other groups especially those with young children.
Me, my partner and 14 year old daughter have been to the Florida theme parks so we not going to be too easily impressed by PA. However, it did meet expectations and was well worth a visit. We concluded that for anyone wanting to do Dragon Khan (Europe’s best Roller Coaster) many times in July/August , a Gold Pass for one day at about 18UKP (on top of the 3 day pass price) is the best value. There is not enough in PA to justify a 7 day pass. Note that the day spent at Costa Caribe (within both 3 and 7 day passes) is a bit of a rip-off in that you have to pay for sunbeds and your own rubber ring for the wave pool! Food is quite expensive.
We took the train to Barcelona for the day (20UKP for 3) (just over 1hr). Tip, check which platform for the return journey very carefully, especially the VDU on the platform says Salou!
While there we witnessed an attempted mobile phone robbery in the covered market (off La Rambla) though that robber was caught, laid out and arrested!
We also visited Tarragona by bus (20 mins), which was well worthwhile for a bit of culture.
Our daughter loved the sea lion experience in a group of five at the big waterpark ‘Aquamarine’ in La Pineda. Costs c.28UKP per person but they allow photos (unlike the Florida dolphin experience at a pricey c.150UKP per person) and is excellent value. You get a free dolphin show in the nearby stadium if you book the 3.00pm sea lion experience.
Best paella (as good as we have had anywhere in Spain was the fish restaurant on the harbour (10UKP per person). Avoid paellas from anywhere showing the factory-made Paellador product.
Finally, Salou is a fine resort; clean, well laid out and with an excellent beach. Pity it is spoiled by hundreds of shops selling tacky souvenirs, dozens of British pubs and cafes! We saw no violence or bad behaviour from brits abroad.

The hotel was very clean and child friendly. The restaurant provided a buffet style meal and was excellent in both quality and presentation. There was a special low height children’s buffet, which was very popular.
They also held themed nights, which varied the evenings. The children’s clubs and entertainment were excellent. The Thompson reps were the best we have ever come across and the hotel staff were equally as good. There was a good programme of daily activities for the adults and children alike. The holiday far exceeded our expectations.

Had a great holiday although not an ideal area for people wanting to do much more than visit a few shops and a theme park. The theme park itself is very good however with the Costa Caribe waterpark next door, just be careful to check details on the waterpark. We bought a ticket that entitled entry to the waterpark and the themepark only to find that as it wasn’t peak time of year and the waterpark only had the indoor pool open, which was overcrowded.

Booked our Thomson Superfamily holiday through Portland Direct saving us money on the brochure price.
Flight was great, Reus airport was awful at both arrival and departure but the new terminal looked almost finished so this shouldn’t be a problem for much longer.
Transfer to the hotel was quick and we were given room keys very promptly, rooms nice and clean. Bath with overhead shower in bathroom and a separate bedroom which was a major plus for us as we could put our 2 year old down for naps and to bed without us disturbing him, room was lovely and dark too. Note: they wouldn’t provide a cot for him as he was just over 2 but we took our travel cot and fitted it in fine. Air con in room was on and helped although didn’t seem very powerful so don’t know what it would be like mid summer.
Had a pool facing room, having read reviews about noisy rooms and this was great. We put our toddler in the crèche for 4 sessions (15 euros a time) the workers there were fantastic and he loved it and often had them all to himself - gave us a great chance to relax by the pool. All the Thomson reps really seemed to work hard to entertain, there was a bit of a feeling of Butlins in the sun, but the kids especially loved it.
You can buy vouchers for the food in the restaurant when there (I think this works out cheaper than going half board!) and this was really nice - lots of choice and plenty of local dishes. High chairs are provided and there’s a kids buffet (chips, nuggets etc), although I often gave our little one some of the adult food to get some fruit/veg down him!
We took the train to Barcelona - if you get the regional trains this is only about a fiver for a return which was brilliant, also took the train to Tarragona which was very nice (a taxi to the train station from the hotel is about 6 euros). If you go to Cambrils/La Pineda get the local bus - only a couple of euros (pay when you get on). We asked the hotel reception where the bus stop to Cambrils was and he advised us to get a taxi - this cost about 12 quid so needless to say we got the bus back!
Salou is a nice resort, lots of families and older people, a little built up for us but we generally like quieter places, hotel is just brilliant for kids though which gives the grown ups a great chance to relax!
