Hotel Don Miguel

Spent a week with Holiday Fellowship group from UK. Its an odd but homely hotel built from a number of houses along the gorge and those rooms along the gorge have tremendous views, plus lots of wheeling birdlife below. The restaurant and bar are downstairs, again with excellent views, and the food when we ate in was good. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, it's perfectly positioned in the centre of Ronda.

We stayed a couple of nights here and what a pity we didn't get a room with a view, although admittedly we only booked on our day of arrival. Ours overlooked a side street and the local MacDonalds, but was otherwise very pleasant and clean. The hotel restaurant overlooks (and cascades down) the gorge with great views of the Punto Nuevo. We've stayed in paradors (the one in Ronda was unavailable), and the Don Miguel felt more authentic, and certainly less expensive. The location and view were unbeatable. Our room had a little balcony with a spectacular view of the Puente Nuevo and the gorge. The room, while spartan, was clean, comfortable and efficient. The included breakfast was one of the better ones we found in Spain (take that as lukewarm praise, though). We usually stay in top hotels, but had no complaints with the Don Miguel.

Arrived in Ronda in the pouring rain, 14th May 2004, rang our 1st choice hotel (Alavera de los Banos - steep walk into town!) but they were full, so booked a double room at the Hotel Don Miguel. Paid 85 euros for B&B, and was slightly disappointed at having to pay an extra 9 euros to park the car. The Hotel is easy to find being on the main road right next to the gorge and has a parking bay in front so its easy to unload your luggage. Our hotel room's view was spectacular. Too bad the room smelled like mildew. On the other hand, the heater worked well. (It was May and very cold for that time of year.)

Stayed here for 7 days in April 04 and could not fault it. We had a wonderful room with balcony overlooking the gorge, spotless with new bathroom. Breakfast was great.

In April of 2003 we stayed at the Don Miguel for three nights. We were pleased in every way. The location can't be beat. The hotel is right on the famous gorge, and I do mean 'right on it.'The views are fantastic! The hotel employees are friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean and very nicely appointed.We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We arrived in Ronda at 3 in the afternoon without a hotel reservation...hoping against hope that there might be a room at the Parador -- but alas, no such luck. We stumbled into the Don Miguel because there was a parking place in front... and took a room beacuse we feared we were be out of luck finding something else..the staff at the desk were charming..and the room was lovely too...a big surprice, at a great rate (about 68 euros per night,). We stayed here based on a review that said it had the same view as the parador at a third of the cost. And it's true! We had a stunning view over the canyon for about $60 a night. And the food in the restaurant downstairs was great, too. Highly recommended.

After 45 minutes of driving up a beautiful winding "James Bond" mountain road, you reach the penacle. The town of Ronda. There are typical old white Spanish buildings lining narrow streets. Completely different is the gaint gorge which splits the town into two. The bridge which holds the town together is a strong magnificent sight. Yet the most magnificent sight is that beyond and below the bridge. The gorge. The view from the Hotel Don Miguel restaurant terrace is breathtaking.
