Just arrived back from the Olive...

Aug 2008, Mr P Mahon

Just arrived back from the Olive Garden Hotel and I would like to comment on the hotel.
The rooms are basic but clean the pool was adequate . The entertainment rubbish and the bar closed at 11pm for all inclusive guests which I felt was to early. The reason for rating the hotel so low is the disgusting food that was dished out day after day. Breakfast was boiled eggs or omlettes with a selection of sliced meats and cheese . Lunch and dinner were much the same, a selection of salads that were not always fresh with plain rice or pasta with no sauce or meat and on the odd day when there was meat or sauce you could not eat it as it was to salty. Chips were served on a regular basis as this is what they thougth english guests wanted. So be warned stay away!!!
All other comments made on this site are all true so, please do not think we are being picky or think that it can't be that bad as that is what we thought before we went but regret going now.

Aug 2008, Mrs E Shorter

Hotel is very clean and tidy and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was cleaned daily and beds made for you. Maids did not speak english but were helpful and friendly. Water always hot for shower and tv worked although no english channels. Air con was independent and you had to ask for the remote control to work it.
Food is repetitive and unless you're willing to try non english food you may go hungry! Fresh omlette for breakfast only once in a week which was a shame as very popular. Birds were nesting in the restaurant area, just made sure we didn't sit under them!! Although we were all inclusive, we did eat out a couple of times. Not much in the surrounding area to do but was good if you wanted a quiet time.
No entertainment whilst we were there, but they did try include you if anything was being organised.
The pool is very clean and clear and cleaned every night, you can see the bottom of it, so don't know what other people are saying. Never had a problem getting a sunbed but sun shades were limited.
Overall I would book this hotel again. You get what you pay for but be careful you don't pay too much as when we spoke to other people at this hotel they had paid up to four times as much as ourselves!

Aug 2008, Mrs K Cox

I am lucky that I have never before had a bad experience on holiday, that is until I went to The Olive Garden Hotel. When we arrived we were told they had no room available for us, as the previous people's flight had been delayed and they had kept the room on. We were sent to another hotel and were given a room in what looked like the staff quarters, until a room became available. We returned to The Olive Garden in the afternoon and were shown our hotel room - about the size of a cupboard with a single bed that me and my husband were supposed to share! We had to find and pay for alternative accommodation elsewhere. Eventually on the second day we did get a room - in the basement with a balcony that faced a brick wall and rows of washing drying on lines! Their attitude was appalling, they couldn't care less. Please , please do not go there. We work all year to have a good holiday not to be stressed and have it ruined by people like this.

Jul 2008, Mrs J Hill

After reading through reviews before I went to this place mostly were positive. Now I have indured a 2 week stay I would strongly recommend you don't go or book a diffrent hotel. I am seriously dubious of people giving this place above a 2 rating. If this is your first visit to Turkey all I can say is This is not a good representitive of Turkey not all Turkish people behave to visitors in this way. Yalmaz and Rifatt {manager and One of the many owners} appear to be on a mission to single handedly ruin the Turkish tourism market firstly. Yalmiz will not accept any complaints he is obvousley deaf {volume of music is shockingly loud} He evidently dines on chicken nuggets, Fish fingers, boiled pasta {with no sauce or anything} brussell sprouts, loads of salad oh and a rather strange tasing soup type thingy. I have been all inclusive in various locations around the world and yes drinks are either 24 hour within the complex or up until midnight. Oh must point out Yalmaz is not Turkish but a Kurd. Now Rifatt the owner well he is the man that rarley smiles and will not ask guests if they are enjoying the holiday his son is the rather annoying child whom with squirt guests with a water pistol or jumps in the pool soaking them. I may also point out staff DO NOT Eat the buffet food {wonder why} Talking of complex the place has one area for entertainment {belly dancer on a wednesday night and a kinda yes yes entertainment later rest of the week} It would be akined to a large bus shelter with a small under stocked bar, birds nesting on the roof trusses kinda dump. I also heard the place was facing closure at the begining of the year its well known in Ovacik as a joke. I witnessed guests in tears by the pool and in the evening. Stranglely enough the only person I did find to be any help was the accountant she did go out of her way for us as 3 kids landed up in the hospital. I would also like to comment on the pool it is cloudy and it has Alpo Hotel written on the bottom when it clears{once a week} Yes we all slap ourselves in sun cream but why does every other hotel I visited manage to keep their pools crystal clear? ban sun cream I think not maybe Olive gardens should call the pool guy. This is an honest opinion of this place If your used to lower market places and a barage of abuse from Yalmiz well this is the place for you. If you want a relaxing holiday that you can smile with fond memories of and book up time and time again well steer clear of The Olive Gardens. On the uphand the younger staff are good. Broken english yes {I never learned Turkish before I went and in all fairness I am in their country.} But you will get there in the end. They are always smiley and appear happy and will go out on a limb for you. The rooms are clean small yes but again house keeping staff ar happy to help you.

I highly recommend this hotel, the rooms are comfortable with fantastic mountain views, totally breath taking.the gardens are beautiful with waterfalls and ducks it really is something to see. with swing seating very comfortable and shaded if the heat gets too much! and swings for the kids, mine loved feeding the ducks.
The beach is in oludeniz just a short 10min ride and the hotel provides a free shuttle service daily to and from, great day out.
The staff are warm and friendly Nazmi is great fun, a real top guy he organizes daily pool games the hotel also has a large water slide the kids spent alot of time in the pool which is clean and safe.
The evenings are full and varied from belly dancers, salsa dancing, brake dancers to an amazing fire show and lookalike entertainers all very entertaining and alot of fun.
Im just back but i've already booked up to go again to this hotel in September. really good hotel with a nice welcoming atmosphere. great people. thanks guys for a great hoilday.

We have just got back from a weeks...
1 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss KB Cupit

We have just got back from a weeks holiday in Turkey staying at The Olive Garden Hotel in Ovacik. This is probably the worst hotel I have ever stayed in ! The management/reception staff basically tell you lies, and the place is an absolute dump. Do not stay here under any circumstances, as they are ripping people off ! For a cheap last minute holiday, you don't expect the earth, just basic clean accommodation, and edible food - at this place you get none of that ! The food is disgusting, our bathroom was mouldy, the light fittings were falling off the wall, and the door knob to the room, also falling off. Loud music blasts out all day and night, and it's a disgrace.
We arrived in the early hours of the morning to be told, that our room was not ready, and we would have to wait 1/2 hours because the flight of the people who were in our room, had been delayed. This was rubbish, as in fact what this hotel is doing is double booking the rooms, and making people coming in overnight, wait several hours, until the people who were checking out the following day had vacated the rooms. When we arrived, there were 2 girls already waiting who had been there an hour, and during our weeks stay, we spoke to 3 other families that the very same thing had happened to them.
We eventually got in our room after 11am, after much arguing with the very rude hotel manager (who turned up at 9am) and staff, and didn't even apologise for the inconvenience caused to us. I asked to be moved to another hotel, but was told I had to wait and see the holiday rep. After many calls on my mobile, he finally said he would come to the hotel at 4pm.
Meantime we were able to get washed and changed, and have something to eat - out of the hotel. We had been offered breakfast at 8am - breakfast ......slop more like it, which was covered in flies. The dining room was a shabby disgrace, with birds nesting in the roof, as many other reviewers have recorded. The pool was so murky you could not see the bottom, and we saw the maintenance man, washing down the deck around the pool, and then brushing the dirty water into the pool ! I had paid for half board, and by all accounts the food was inedible !
The rep, Engin turned up at 4pm, for all it was worth. He was rude, obtrusive, aggressive, and generally very unpleasant. He told me we could not be moved, did not apologise for any inconvenience at all, and treated us with disdain. He offered me 'a free safety deposit box for the week', as compensation ! I said I wanted to be moved, and be reimbursed for the nights board I had paid, as we did not get into the room until after 11am. I gave up asking for him to move us, as he said we would have to ring the Goldtrail back in the UK, so I asked for a local directory of hotels, so that I could find myself another place to stay - which he refused to do. He gave me a complaint form which I completed, and left at the hotel for him to sign. I phoned him, and texted him twice to ask for the form to be signed and left for me to collect - but he did not bring the form back.
We did manage to find another hotel ourselves, and moved that same evening, which was close by that had a room vacant. It was very nice, clean and friendly. But I had to pay again for another weeks bed and breakfast for myself and my daughter, after already paying for half board at the dump up the road. We did have a nice holiday once we had moved hotels, but only because I had the means to move and pay for another hotel.
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and if you have booked to go here, I feel sorry for you - if you're thinking of staying here, a word of advice, DON'T !!!!!

This hotel is in a ideal location!...

Jul 2008, Mr Thomas H

This hotel is in a ideal location! its staff are helpful and friendly.
The All inclusive is great, found it hard to spend any money atall. We hardly
left this hotel as the entertainment was excellent from belly dancing to a
Michael Jackson lookalike he was brilliant! even break dancers the atmosphere is
warm and welcoming at this hotel, the choice of food is vast, many lovely salads
with the choice of chicken, fish or beef plenty of choice and it is fresh and tasty.
Overall this hotel is clean and comfortable and staff are great fun, but for the exception of one Gul i believe her name is the account office manager she was the only down side to this excellent hotel, i and several other hoildaymakers found her to be agressive and extremely rude, her english is poor to say the least and makes no effort to converse, basically she shouts and just walks away, very unfriendly and intimidating.
But to finish on a good note! i would recommend this hotel very highly i'll be going back for sure!

I have just returned from my hoilday...
10 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs M Todd

I have just returned from my hoilday at the olive garden hotel in Ovacik!!! The negative reviews about this hotel are completely unfounded, I am astonished at what people are saying! where they at the same hotel as me???
I can only say that I and everyone I spend time with were treated very well, We avoided the one or two negative people who glow in the dark whist complaining!!! the staff are charming and eager that everyone has a great holiday. Im a great believer in !! u get what u deserve, If you treat people with repect and dignity then u will receive this in return! Im ashamed to say that we are a nation of professional complainers, and can be very rude to the staff who serve us!
The pool is on the small side but suited to the size of the hotel!!! very clean, due to the fact that everyday at 6pmish it is cleaned and chemicals added, thus the reason why the pool is closed, for the customers safety!!!
Drinks are not watered down and are indeed are very strong to which i discovered!! well its common practice that All inclusive drinks stops at 11pm isnt it???? to continue would have a grave effect for the safety of the staff and guests as many guest would contiue to drink 24 hrs a day! the food is of a good standard, not many hotel offer omelettes at breakfast, do the complainers expect a full english too, pathetic!!!
The comments about Yilmaz (the hotel Manager) being arrogant are rubbish!! I have witness this poor man having to deal with loud aggressive customers that complain about everything under the sun !!!!ie dinner is from 8pm till 10pm the chicken ran out briefly at 9.30 pm and this man screamed and shouted at female staff infront of children and was totally and completely intimidating, i was completely ashamed that a grown man could act in this shocking manner!!! Yilmaz the manager quietly and calmly dealt with this animal!!! and defused the situation also arranged fresh chicken to be prepared for him! this hotel go out of there way to accomodate even the most unreasonable requests from bulling customers, i for one am totally ashamed of how us as a race treat people whilst we are hoildaying in their country! and still they smile and continue to serve us!!
Please dont let the odd negative review put you off having a great holiday!! i will be returning to this hotel i have found it and its staff to be warm and friendly 10 out of 10

This hotel was threatened with...
1 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss J Ewen

This hotel was threatened with closure around February time but were told if they changed the management that it could stay open..... BIG mistake. As we were self catering the all-inclusive guests were saying lucky you, there was flies in the salad bowl (even before the cling film was open), birds nesting in the dining room and if you liked fish fingers/chicken nuggets you were fine. The complex is at the top of a hill (not suitable for elderly, disabled people), the complex itself is also not suitable for the disabled. The nearest beach is a 20 minute dolmus ride in Olu Deniz, contrary to what other review sites might say. One couple was actually told by their travel agent that they opened their bedroom door and they were on the beach!!!!
The younger staff were all pleasant and tried to understand what you were saying to them. Yilmaz became more arrogant and rude the more you complained to him about anything. He also made sexual advances to two females (who were there with their children so were not some young teen looking for anything).
Entertainment comprised of bingo (which you paid for to win the grand prize of a packet of crisps), a quiz (there is no question number 25 but the answer is Argentina) and a belly dancer. We were promised a pool party/karaoke one night which was supposed to start at 10pm, pool party started at 1045pm and we are still waiting on the karaoke. If you want to play pool or table tennis be prepared to pay 5ytl for each hour you play. Music was so loud you could not hear what anyone was saying, if you asked for it to be turned down, it was for about a minute and then turned back up.
The apartment we had was spacious, cooking facilities comprised of a 2-ring hot plate/kettle and a fridge. Rooms should be cleaned every day (ours was brushed out only) and sheets/towels changed every 3 days.
If you really want to go to this hotel please only use it as a base and go self-catering.

If you have been allocated a place at...
1 / 10
Jul 2008, morgan9825

If you have been allocated a place at this hotel, get it changed before you go on your holiday as it is the worst hotel I have stayed in. I looked at the reviews prior to going and decided to give it the benifit of the doubt, REGRETS. The food was poor, and I was not expecting Burgers, Mince and tatties or steaks, just something I could eat. The food was tasteless and bland. The chef could not even fry an egg and when he did an ommelete it had more oil with it than BP. For most of the holiday we ate out with other guests of the hotel. The Management was rude and when they were approached about a problem they became aggresive if the conversation was not going there way. On one occasion I had to speak to the manager regarding his attitude to my wife and others sitting at our table. If it was not for the fact I was not frightened by him he could have been rather intimadating. The assistant Manager was nice but at time he took is alartity to the limite when fooling around with the guests at the pool side.
The pool was cloudy and this had nothing to do with putting chemicals in it, as chemicals are put in pools to clear the water not to make it cloudy. It started to clear at the end of the 14 days and you could see slime on the bottom row of tiles. There were not enough deck chairs for the guests and they were that close to the pool side that when someone jumped in you got splashed.
The misic was played at such a volume that you could not have a conversation with the person next to you and some of the music was not suitable for children with rap being played where foul language and lude lyrics were used.
I found the accomodation acceptable, but it could also have been better. For a hotel that has just been re-decorated and the management changed it still has its difficulties and problems and should not be used by the travel agents in UK.
I will definately not return and if you can get you holiday changed

We have just got back from a week...
7 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs K Honeyman

We have just got back from a week here last sat night (19/07/08). We booked this holiday last min and on the cheap. But for a good price we had all Inclu. which was, in our opinion very good value. We are drinkers, and not used to spending holidays at 5* luxury in Uk, so we went expecting 3* in Turkey and that is what we got. the hotel is fine, it's rooms are small but serve their purpose (we didn't go away to spend half of it in a room!) the pool was lovely, it's murkyness, as people report is down to chemicals to keep it clean, and us Brits caking ourselves in factor 50, then jumping in! I saw no muck or flies on the water so couldn't be all that bad, didn't make us ill. Food on all inclusive was mostly salads etc, but, ffs you're in Turkey so wasn't expecting fish n chips, cottage pie or spag bog anyway. Yes the food is open and there were flies around, but we sussed this first day and just made sure we got there early and ate quick. neither of us suffered from upset stomouches or runs (except the morning before we did a para jump, but i'm sure you'd get that anywhere in the world with the thought of a 1900meters leap ahead of you!). The staff we met were all lovely and very helpful. I couldn't believe one fellow Brit complaining the barman couldn't speak fluent English, when she'd come to their country and couldn't say 1 word of Turkish. Arrogance here will not give you a good holiday. Don't expect too much, just what you pay for, and we feel we got a good deal and a fantastic holiday. I have no complaints at all. I didn't witness the Manager being inapropriate with guests as others say, and he was fine with us. I wish him and his staff well in continuing to run and improve this business, for a new hotel manager (3 months) he did a better job than I'm sure any previous whingers could do. Well done Olive garden, i'd go back!

If you have booked a holiday and are...
1 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr M Greig

If you have booked a holiday and are going to the Olive Garden - CANCEL IT NOW OR GET IT CHANGED - AS IT IS THE PITS.. I read the reviews before I went and thought it could not be that bad and gave it the benifit of the doubt as everybody has there own views, I wish I had not as it was as bad as people were sayinf. It is the first time that I have been all enclusive, and from this experience it will be a long time before I do it again. The food is below standard and of the 14 days we stayed there we ate the main meals (Lunch and Tea ) on the first few days then we ate out after that. The food is Turkish, which you expect, but there is no variation and is it very bland and very poorly prepared. At breakfast they would have boiled eggs one day, fried the next and omelets on another and apart from the boiled eggs you avoid the others as the chef cannot even fry an egg and the omelet has more oil with it than Shell or BP. In our last week the Hotel was to its maximum and you would have to stand in a large Q to get fed and when you did get your food there was no tables to sit at as the Hotel did not have the facilities to accomodate all guests. They seemed to cater better for their turkish guests.
The junior members of staff are very pleasent, when not being bullied by the managers, and the manager himself is an arrogant pig and gets aggresive if you challenge him. I had to talk to him about his arrogance and the fact he was out of order after he slammed our table at 2255 and shouted at us because we had 15 glasses on our table and only 8 people sitting. If he had taken time out to speak to us he would have realised that half of the glasses were empty. He was abusive throughout our conversation, and if I was not able to stand up for myself I would have felt threatened by his attitude. We were not the only ones he did this too throughout our stay. The junior manager is pleasent enough but he tends to over step the mark and fools about with the guests and takes it to far at times.
The Hotel4u rep was also an arrogent pig and very unhelplful and was only interested in you of you booked your trips with him and he certainly cannot deal with women. I had to challenge him several times about our tranfer back to the airport and in the end the accountant at the hotel had to arrange it for us.
The swimming pool is cloudy and although it is well used by the guests I would not use it as it needed a good clean. It started to clear the day before we left and the walls of the pool near the bottom had algi on them. There was not enough sunbeds, but that said there was not enough room for more that 30 beds and they were so close to the pool that everytime someone jumped in you got splashed.
The music was blasted out all day to a level that you at times could not speak to other guests because of the volume. I believe it was not played for the guests, it was for the benifit of the staff. Also, some of the music was of poor taste as they played Rap music at times which included foul language and with children in the location is was of poor taste, this I believe was ignorance as they probably did not understand the lyrics.
The accomodation was probably the best part of the hotel, but again it lacked the basics like a fridge or a kettle to make yourself a cup of tea. The shower broke twice, and although they fixed it you had to use the showerhead in your hand as it would soak the whole floor otherwise.
I could go on and on regarding this hotel, but all I will say that the holidays I have been on before I have always said that I would like to go back. The only way I will go back there is if I go to Hell when I die as that is the impression that it has left me with. I did not get a welcome feeling at all during my stay.
