this is the best place ever! we had our first holiday abroad here and it couldn't have been better. the resort itself is beautiful, very clean and tidy, beautifully decorated, the staff couldn't do enough to help and the food was fantastic. even though we went very early in the season the weather was fab, warm and sunny we spent all day laying by the huge pool with views of the sea and the mountains. it will always be my favorite place. the hotel staff were very friendly and joined guests at lunch time to ask if they were enjoying themselves. we stayed in the village and the rooms were brilliant all marble and so clean. we made friends with a family staying in the residence and they were really happy with their suite of rooms too. because it was so early in the season not all the resturants were open but it didn't make any difference to us, if we were to go back we would go later maybe may or june as we have been to turkey again in april and it rained so we would leave it till later to be sure of good weather and then we would have more choice in the places to eat. the only gripe we had with the resort was the beds they were quite hard and i found that uncomfortable but other than that we could find nothing to complain about. i would recommend this place to families, couples young and old the resort is so big you would always be able to find something that would suit your needs if your looking for quiet then there are pools for adults only and quiet areas, if you have children the clubs seem to cater for all ages from very young to teenagers all the children we saw were well looked after and really enjoying themselves and there is a water park if you want to do more than chill by the pool. the evening entertainment was great bit cheesy but fun to watch, if a quiet drink is more your thing, then the lounges provid quiet comfortable areas to relax in, beautifully decorated with big leather sofas. there are a number of shops in the resort selling gifts and designer stuff which was quite expensive, there is a hairdresser which seemed reasonable. all in all a wonderfull holiday experience.

lykia used to be fantastic, many staff have now left lykia and it is no longer the same.too many brits now.
the 4 / 5 star rating is not deserved at all,the rooms are very basic and most are very small, do not ever book a garden room, they are like prison cells,be warned!!!!!
the air con is terrible and you can complain as many times as you like and you will get nowhere.
be careful if you book with thomas cook as their room codes do not tally up with lykias room codes and you may end up with a far inferior room than you thought you would get, believe me we have had that problem twice at lykia.
we have been to lykia 5 times but will not return again.
facilities are good, pools are good, kids club good for young children, animation used to be fantastic but not as good now.
food is good but used to be excellent, get to meals early or you will not get a seat.
drinks are included with meals but not at any other times so you will pay premium prices, the nearest town is 3 miles away, taxis are expensive, get a taxi the first day find a restaurant bar you like and get the owner to pick you up and drop you off each day you go down as we did. or run as i did sometimes.
if you want a fantastic hotel super all inclusive, branded drinks, mini bar, room service included in the evening then go to delphin palace, lara beach. look it up on the net,now this is 5 star and deserves it.

Accomodation good, (upto three sharing), staff brilliant, helpful and friendly, food choices excellent, entertainment good. Beware short measures on cocktails and high prices on imported brands (Carona 7 euro's a bottle). Main down side Brit tourists with no manners when dealing with staff (w***ers) (embaressment) & high prices in resort shops. Go back.... yes.

Aug 2008, Miss A Jones

I am 15 and have now visited Lykia World four summers consecutively. Every year has been amazing. Although this review is from the perspective of a 15 year old my parents have enjoyed each year as much as me. Most of the teenagers are english so you make so many friends. If you are a teenager you really will have the best holiday ever.
One thing i would say is if you can stay in the residence becuase if your going to be coming home like most teenagers at 3am at night the residence is a lot nearer to everything and as the rooms are inside it is safter to walk back to. I stayed in the village the first two years and it was so far away you could not just pop back to get something from your room.
The food is really good at the marina restaurant down at the beach, but it gets very busy at dinner town so you have to get down early if you want a good table.
I really do not undertsand where he bad reviews are coming from everyone my parents and I have ever spoken to love the place and most people end up going back.
I really miss Lykia World already and hopefully will go back again next year :)

We have just returned from our first...

Aug 2008, Mr D Adams

We have just returned from our first visit to Lykia World – our three kids (10, 10 & 12), my wife and I all had a fantastic time.
Arrival was very smooth – I opted for the hotel provided mini bus transfer which was convenient, but more expensive than others, and was actually a slightly tatty minibus provided by another bus operator – next time we’ll use HamishMcTurk or similar. We did not want the very late arrival/departure of some flights with all the problems of vacating rooms etc. so we had booked day-time flights on Thomas Cook which were thankfully not delayed.
We had adjoining category 5 rooms in the Olympus block on the first floor with a nice side sea view – I had requested north facing O block rooms by e-mail and that is what we got, so could not have been better. The rooms were ideal for us, and to a good standard of décor – the air-conditioning was a bit temperamental, but mostly worked OK. There is a room safe, but you need to ask for a key from reception. One thing people have mentioned is Dove shampoo and soap being provided in the rooms – this is no longer the case !! There are only soap dispensers in the bathrooms and showers – take your own shampoo !
As many have mentioned, the site is built on a hill side so everywhere you go is up or down steps or a slope – for us this was not a problem (and was good exercise) – there is a good bus system to take you round the resort, but anyone with mobility problems should probably think twice. I have seen complaints about the time to get from the rooms to pools etc – well it took me exactly 5 mins to stroll from our room to the Residence pool on the other side of the resort – it was really not a problem !
Our kids are very gregarious and slotted into the Kids Club almost immediately, making new friends and having a great time with all the activities – their leaders (April, Sofien, Anil and Elgun) were great and we felt very comfortable waving them all off at 10 am, and often not seeing them till 6 pm – they really enjoyed the freedom to come and go as they pleased. Our kids liked to eat with us in the evenings and then go to the show so did not use the evening kids club.
The activities were very well run, ranging from water polo and water bomb fights in the Children’s Paradise, to banana boat rides, to rock climbing, archery and judo – all professionally run with excellent equipment. Our 10 yr old twin son and daughter both joined in the 8 pm football matches on several evenings and did the children’s show – our 12 yr old daughter skipped the show as it was really aimed at the younger kids.
We mostly ate dinner in the seafront Marina restaurant, although we tried the Village and Residence (which I actually slightly preferred). Overall the standard of food and choice was very good, although buffet was getting a bit repetitive by the time we left – We also went to the Blue Buddha Chinese restaurant twice which was excellent.
Whilst on the food – what is it with the Russians ? we saw numerous Russian guests piling their plates with vast amounts of food (2-3 layers deep), and then only eating a fraction – what a waste ! We never managed to figure out why so many of them did it, some cultural thing maybe.
Drink prices from the bar are a bit steep but we took our own duty-free gin in a small bottle and just bought tonics from the bar – much cheaper ! The house white and red wine with the meals are very drinkable.
We went to the Residence pool most days as it was quieter than the Village pool, and the sun beds did not seem to get reserved quite so early – however you still needed to be there before 8 am to get a good spot. What ever time you get up there is always somewhere you can find a sun bed, just avoid the two main pools and go to the beach or the Children’s Paradise.
We really enjoyed the 9.30 pm shows in the amphitheater or by the Village pool – most were excellent (Chinese & Kenyan acrobats, Circus, Dance etc) – however the ‘Comedy’ show was very dodgy !
My wife and I are qualified scuba divers (although a bit rusty) – so when they dive centre team turned up at the pool for kids to have a go in the afternoon our kids jumped at the chance & we booked them up to do a half day Discover Scuba course which included learning basic diving skills in the pool, followed by a 40 minute dive in the sea, down to 25ft – this was very closely supervised, and the dive centre arranged it so that we could join them on the dive – the kids loved it.
If any of you are into diving, or thinking about trying it, I cannot recommend the dive centre highly enough – it is English run, and the instructors are highly professional.
I also did one boat dive to a spectacular set of caverns – very good visibility & lots of fish !
All in all it was a very successful holiday – my wife had a complete rest, the kids had loads to do and really had fun, and I had plenty to do if I got bored by the pool – what more can you ask for ?
The resort is very well cared for – you never see any litter, and there is an army of gardeners caring for the beautiful gardens. The staff were all friendly, polite and very helpful. Lykia World really does seem to offer all you could need in a family holiday and we will return !

IF YOU ARE A TEENAGER then you MUST...
10 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr DE Edward

IF YOU ARE A TEENAGER then you MUST read this review before you go!
I have just got back from two weeks at the Lykia World Resort in Olu Deniz and miss it to bits. I am 16 years old, which enabled me to quickly find friends at the teen club at the start of the holiday. Activities such as jet-skiing, rock climbing and banana boating could be done with the teen club at a fraction of the cost that it would usually be, so it is well worth sticking with the group. There are a number of fantastic excursions such as a ‘Sunset Boat Trip’, and a ‘Kayaking Trip’ which you will not want to miss either. Because the activities are largely flexible, it is possible to go to the ‘Children’s Paradise Pool’ or sleep on the beach when you feel the need.
Let me take you through my average Lykia World Day:
10:20 Wake up to catch the end of breakfast and take some fruit
11:30 Eat fruit at the teen club meeting place while waiting on friends
11:45 Do the morning activity such as beach volley or canoeing
12:30 Leave the teen club with friends to go swimming or sleep in the sun
13:30 Eat lunch at the Marina Restaurant with friends and finish with an ice-cream
14:00 Relax, play water games or join teen club
16:00 Try some free activities such as archery
18:00 Get ready for dinner, chill in the room and apply after-sun to all sun-burns
19:45 Go for an early dinner to beat the rush, usually with teen club people
20:30 Go to the beach bar cushion area to play cards
21:30 Go to the evening entertainment show if you can be bothered, or play table tennis
22:00 Lie about your age, get out the fake ID, and start drinking at the expensive Village Bar
23:00 Party all night...
02:00 DJ leaves the dance floor, everyone sobers up a bit before making their way back
03:00 Home by three, or stay up all night if you can to watch the sunrise
Most complaints about this resort are about the expensiveness. You get these people saying that it is a scam... and it is completely true! But, you cannot avoid it so you must anticipate that the room bill will be £1000; anything under is a bonus.
What annoys me on these review sites are people complaining about how ridiculously expensive Lykia is when they clearly did not get out much; you are not trapped at the resort, so get a taxi and go into town where everything is a third of the price if you have money issues. Paragliding with a town company such as ‘Sky Sports’ is a must, as is buying sun-creams, lilos and clothes. I can imagine that two adults might not enjoy this holiday; however a person under the age of 25 could not possibly have disliked this holiday overall.
Resort faults:
Marina Restaurant is always packed; people queue a quarter of an hour before opening just to get good seats with a sea view!
I stayed in the more expensive residence part of the resort, and the colour scheme for rooms was beyond dreadful. Pink, yellow and green tiles are not the most appealing colours. On the plus side, the room was only there to sleep in.
Pools were packed at certain times of the day. Luckily I looked old enough to use the much quieter adult pools.
Night Club is a waste of time. I visited the Night Club three times and two of those times it was empty at midnight except for a DJ dancing to their own tracks alone.
As a boy, the amount of rum in a rum and coke was much smaller then if a good-looking girl had ordered it. Getting a woman to order the drinks is a good way to get more for your money.
Not enough hours in the day... But that’s nobody’s fault.

Aug 2008, Mr C. ASLAN

We have stayed in Lykia World at the beginning of July. Our flights, transfers, bookings were very smooth and professional. Thanks a lot to Buzzy travel for the service.
Pros:It is a great Hotel with beautiful scenery and settings.Very impressive Architecture
blend of Traditional Turkish and Ancient Lycian or I should say Ancient Aegean Style.
So complex itself has a great Harmony with surroundings.
Briefly:Very clean,Helpful Staff,Great Foodand Great Scenery.
It is basically one of the Best Hotels for Families with young children.Between the ages of 3-15.I would highly recommend this Hotel for Familes with young children.
Now here are Cons:
Not Suitable for elderly people as a result of Natural setting.(Hilly)
Overall renovation is must.Exterior and interior. The Beach is particularly needs to be improved.
Very expensive for extras. It should be moderate.Actually reduced prices will provide more income to the Hotel. So stay out of extra expenses.Any other extras are very costly as well. This will be my debate point for the future 'go back to Lykia' Travel Plans.
Animation is Ok .Evening Shows are also ok but just like any other ones.
So overalll I think it is good Hotel despite of some down points
I would suggest to stay whether in Residence or Village(Simena Houses section).

We’ve just returned from a two-week...
4 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr A O''Neill

1 reader found this review helpful

We’ve just returned from a two-week holiday in Lykia World and, to be frank, we were quite disappointed. Lykia World markets itself as a reasonably upmarket destination, but the quality of accommodation and service does not reflect the stated four stars. On an international scale, I’d rate it in the three-star region.
So, what were the specific issues? Firstly, we arrived at about 9.45 at night, having spent the best part of the day travelling. We were hungry and looking forward to a meal, but all the restaurants were closed. Reception gave us each a small sandwich and a soft drink to tide us over until morning, but that’s not what we really needed. Contrast this with Club Med, where we have holidayed a few times: for late arrivals, a small section of the restaurant is left open with a buffet selection offering a choice of food.
Next, we were taken to our room (and tapped for a tip by the bell boy). To get there we had to walk up an extremely steep hill and climb a few flights of stairs. I’m a competitive runner, and thus quite fit, but each time I had to walk to our room, I was short of breath, with a noticeable increase in heart rate. Here’s a tip – if you have restricted mobility, or need to use a pushchair for a child, make sure that you don’t get a room in the Perdikia block. For the whole first week, my wife and I had pains in our calves from tackling the hill several times a day.
The room was a reasonable size (as we were two adults and two children (10 and 7), we needed space for the four of us), but the first thing I saw was a huge cockroach running across the wall. Additionally, the room was very hot. Several years ago, we vowed never to go on a sun holiday if the accommodation didn’t have air conditioning, so we were very careful in making sure that Lykia World did have this amenity before we booked. However, there is air conditioning and air conditioning Lykia-style! The A/C unit in our room showed a temperature of 26 degrees, which is clearly too hot for comfortable sleeping. We couldn’t figure out how to turn it down, so I asked Guest Relations, only to be informed that the temperature is set centrally, and couldn’t (or possibly wouldn’t) be turned down for any particular room. When I pointed out that 26 degrees was way too hot to be comfortable, Mr. Helpful (as we dubbed him), in Guest relations told us that this was a “healthy temperature” and that his office was at 28 degrees. He seemed to miss the point that while he was being paid to be there, we were parting with our cash for the privilege – the concept of the customer being always right doesn’t seem to have reached Lykia World.
The lack of air conditioning extends to the restaurants, which are all uncomfortably warm. While the food was reasonable, I wouldn’t describe it as high quality. It was very repetitive, with a very limited selection of salads and healthy foods. If you like it fried, you’ll probably enjoy it though. Interesting food offerings included carrots in caramel sauce (yes, the same one you’d put on your ice cream), and onions in caramel sauce. I won’t try those again! On the subject of the food, we tried one of the speciality restaurants. Don’t bother – it cost us an additional €90, for very average Italian fare plus a bottle of wine. Despite indications to the contrary, the house wine wasn’t available in the restaurant, so we had to pay extra for the wine also. We would have been better sticking to the main buffet restaurants. A bit of transparency in relation to restaurant pricing would be helpful.
Trying to get a seat in the Village restaurant at lunchtime was difficult – we sometimes had to “cruise” for 15 minutes for a table to become available, despite there being a closed off section of the restaurant with plenty of vacant tables. Also, if you want a nice seat in the Marina restaurant, you will need to be there as soon as it opens.
I enjoy windsurfing, so I was looking forward to getting some done on holiday. While it is true that Lykia does have windsurfing equipment, what they don’t have is wind! The location of the watersports area, at the bottom of a steep cliff in the middle of a 90 degree angle, almost guarantees that there will very rarely, if ever, be enough wind for sailing or windsurfing.
There are two gyms on site – one is equipped with very basic and worn out equipment, and one is very modern with a good selection of new equipment. Guess which one you have to pay extra to use, and is the one shown on the website photographs!
Other posters have mentioned the prices and the bar and in the shops, so I’ll be brief. Everything is at least the price you’d pay at home, and in some cases considerably more expensive. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not going to break the bank, but there was till an uncomfortable sensation of being ripped off every time we bought something.
It wasn’t all negative: our children loved the water park, the on-site doctor was very helpful (for dealing with allergic reaction to mosquito bites); the selection of pools was very good; the entertainment was mostly good (when it was provided by third parties, rather than the animation team) and the spa was pleasant.
To summarise, Lykia World seems to want to be like Club Med when it grows up, but it still has a lot to learn. Overall verdict: Must Try Harder . . .

I have just got back from Lykia World...
8 / 10
Jul 2008, Ms T Preston

1 reader found this review helpful

I have just got back from Lykia World and wanted to share our experiences! This was the second time we have visited, the first approximately four years ago when I went with my 3 young children and their father...this time it was just my children (now aged 6, 9 & 12) and myself. It was mildly daunting going away as the only adult with 3 kids, but having been to Lykia before, I was confident that the facilities on offer would mean I would have a stress-free holiday - and I was right!! Fortunately all the check-in, flights and transfers were stress free (just luck though I know!) and then when we arrived at LW at around 03.30 local time (not great flight times, a downer) we were offered cold drinks and a snack, and the bellboys swiftly transferred myself, our luggage and the kids to our room cheerfully. The room I booked was a family room in the Village (not sure of the class, it was in 'K' block); we had two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds, plus a dressing room and a large bathroom with separate walk in shower/loo/and sink area...one down side is that the area is open to the 'hallway' and therefore not much privacy from the other rooms! We were on the first floor and we had a lovely, large and safe balcony area overlooking the gardens with some sea view as well!
The facilities at Lykia World are fantastic-we were only there for a week, but we did something different every day...one day the Residence pool, another the Village pool, another the beach, then the Children's Paradise...we also took a full day's jeep safari tour which was great fun (the kids loved all the waterfights) and included a quite random but really fun mud bath - it was a full day (9-6) and IMO well worth the 80ish euros it cost us. The kids went into the club on only a couple of occasions but enjoyed banana boat rides, jet skiing and also had the opportunity to make friends with lots of other English children- there were other nationalities but a good proportion of English at this time of year - and the kids club leaders were amazing! Really happy and friendly and obviously LOVED what they do!!
The whole site of Lykia is huge and very safe, I was happy letting the kids wander off to the toilet or to get a drink without being supervised - on the day we left the site we were checked in and out by the security gate staff to ensure they didn't just let anyone wander onto site!
The entertainment in the evenings was generally of a very high standard, with a show once a week put on by the kids in the club, plus shaolin monks, a talent show...the site has a large ampitheatre plus they use the pool side and also have live music at the beach bar etc. I do think advertising the holiday as 'all inclusive' is misleading - personally I would say it is 'full board plus' as everything outside of mealtimes has to be paid for, and is at premium rates (I paid 18 euros for a double Jack Daniels and coke - I only had the one all week!!). However the food is more than plentiful, with a large salad bar, a 'diet corner' plus a large selection of freshly cooked hot food every night, which differs slightly in each restaurant. They also have several speciality restaurants for which a small premium is paid - we tried out the chinese this time and had a very nice several course meal with free drinks for around 17 euros for all of us; last time we visited the Turkish restaurant which was very entertaining!
The weather was fantastic whilst we there, although possibly a little hot on the last day (45degrees) however there is ample shaded areas, especially in the Children's Paradise, which, being at the top of the resort (on the mountainside) is well shaded by trees..there are also a good number of parasols however due to the unfortunate habit of certain holidaymakers, a late wakening does mean most of the sun beds have been taken quite early on - even though the apparent occupants are nowhere to be seen! Personally I would address this if I were Lykia World, and ask, as in other such resorts I have visited, that no sunbeds are reserved prior to breakfast as I do feel it is unfair when you see people purposefully getting up at 06.30 (and I really did witness this!) to reserve the best spot by the pool, only to go off and play tennis or suchlike until after lunchtime!
Another point to mention is that due to the unfortunate timing of our flights (we were picked up at 2145), we were without a room from 1200 on the day of checkout. However, there was a room available to us for use after our busy day, which was actually one of the Garden Rooms (the cheaper end of the spectrum - very compact and no balcony) in which we were able to get showered, changed etc and the kids could have a chill out and watch tv for a while, so not too bad overall.
The staff generally were happy and helpful with few exceptions; other guests have mentioned the cleaners apparent disrespect for privacy and I would second this - however each room does have a 'do not disturb' sign and i would recommend using it! But the bar staff were cheerful and amazingly remembered my drinks order every night! The restaurant staff were helpful and really responded to politeness and the odd word of Turkish - it is after all their country! The animation staff were incredibly enthusiastic - if you fancy a game of volleyball in the pool at 5pm just look interested and they will hunt you out!!
Overall it was a fantastic holiday and we will definately return to Lykia World...after a year saving up to do so... I do believe you get what you pay for and so if mixing with 'nice' people who work hard all year and want a stress free holiday in beautiful surroundings is what you're after, I would recommend giving Lykia World a go!
PS Try the paragliding, it's awesome!!

We arrived home a week ago and have already booked for next year. That will be our 3RD time at Lykia Residence. Animation team Sisko, Elmo and the rest are excellent. Bar staff Hakan, Surkhan i dont remember all the names! know how to run a good bar, friendly, happy and kept us entertained for hours. They all work so hard and enjoy it. Shame its not like this in England. Food yet again is excellent, lots of choice even for fussy eaters like my 17yr old son! There is a chef cooking a different speciality dish every evening that you can sit and watch while eating in the restaurant, all included in the price!. We didnt stop eating. Drinks and wine all included with meals. Rooms are big with a balcony lovely views. Pools are checked 3 times a day for chlorine levels i have watched them as i am laying by the pool. Charlie says HELLO or Meharba to viktor in reception they all know at least 4 or 5 languages. Well done Lykia Staff Keep up the good work see you all next year. Charlie, Heather, Lee and Mum

We (Myself, Husband, Son 16 and Daughter 13) arrived in Lykia World on 26th June for 2 weeks.
We had family room facing the sea, It was plenty big enough and my son is 6ft and sofa bed was fine for him.
I am already looking to book for next year. I was worried after reading reviews that older children would be bored, but how wrong I was.
The complex is so secure and great care taken not to let in people who have no booking therefore very confused by some of comments below. I think these people went to a different place.
Paragliding was great!!!! yes little more expensive than town but we only paid 85 Euros for children and 110 for myself. By the time you have got a taxi to town not a lot in price. Also a friend booked from town but flight not as long and also not so friendly.
Food!!........... Perhaps should get my Son to answer this one, he was worried be nothing for him to eat, that is a joke he must have had 5 trips each meal time. I am apparently fussy with food but even I loved it. Before we went we said would try the speciality restaurants, however so happy never actually got to one.
Drink Prices..... No more expensive than any hotel in UK, and £5 for cocktail, I paid 3 times that in London and not as nice.
Pools.. Fantastic
Scenery... Better than you can imagine
Russians.......... Yes just as everyone says but when we were there 50-60% British and just play water polo with a russian and then you may see him smile.
Animation Team...... Certainly not after the girls, they got everyone involved.
SPECIAL PERSON!! One person who once you meet you will not forget 'Emre', I have never met anyone with so much energy. He gets everyone involved and he is sooo cute we wanted to bring him home.
Well think thats about it, oh apart from all the steps, you will come home with toned legs to be proud of.
