Abadia Hotel Granada Reviews

Great location, staff really helpfull in giving points of interest and opening times. Recommendations for places to eat were really good. Also they parked the car for us which is difficult in the narrow roads, if arriving by car you need satnav or good directions and book parking in advance.

Perfect Hotel
My husband and i have just celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary at the Abadia. HOW WONDERFUL! We stayed in the top room, no.401. Faultless. Stocked mini-bar. Great ambience. The room was absolutely spotlessly clean. Genial, polite staff. Big bathroom, lots of room for 2 in the hydrobath ! (n.b. holes in the sloping ceiling where stupid folk have banged their heads getting out of the bath!) Ten minutes walk from bars and restaurants. Within easy reach of the Arabian Market. Lots to see and a helpful map given to us by the receptionist made everything so much easier to find. I would definately recommend this small moroccan-style hotel to everyone and we will definately be visiting again.
The best thing about Granada!
We were delighted with the Abadia from the moment we arrived - a gorgeous room, helpful staff, great location. But this hotel really showed its finest colours when we found ourselves in trouble after leaving. We were mugged shortly after checking out of the hotel, but they still let me leave my son there safely while I tried to deal with all the problems following the mugging, let me use their phone and internet to organise emergency funds, and could not have been more kind, generous or helpful. It made a very difficult experience bearable, and to me, sums up the best of the Abadia: a small, intimate hotel with staff who really care about their guests. Thankyou, Abadia!
Excellent value for money
I agree wholeheartedly with my fellow traveller from Birmingham. This hotel is excellent value for money and those people who complain should learn to expect to get what they pay for. My own opinion is that, given the price, this is a real gem of a hotel. The staff were attentive and friendly. Our room was absolutely spotless and the air conditioning worked fine (if you made sure the windows were shut). We were there at the end of July and it was 40 degrees plus. We were't too hot at all. There was complimentary water and soft drinks in the fridge that was provided and the bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. The shower was powerful and the hot water plentiful. Although the rooms are simple, they have made a real effort to add a few unique touches here and there. Yes, its on a slighly dodgy looking side street and a whole 15 minute walk to the bottom of the hill that takes you up to the Alahambra - but you're on holiday! Have a pleasant stroll, take in the area around you. On the way between the hotel and the centre of town you walk through the main Univeristy area with lots of local cafes and tapas bars where you can stop for a drink and people watch and the cathedral was only a 5 minutes walk. And I do have to say that, frankly, if you're bothered that the staellite television reception is not as good as it could be you're spending far too much time in your hotel room. There is no restaurant its true, but there are endless pleasant tapas bars and cafes where you can get breakfast, including a lovely bakery nearby. There are even places where you can sit outside so as to avoid cigarette smoke, but again, this is SPAIN, they smoke here. Its part of the culture. Get over it. If you visit Granada then I would highly recommend that you spend an evening in the Pescaderia. Its where the locals go for thier evening stroll and where you will be given complimentary and delicious tapas with every glass of Fino. The Alhambra of course, is a must. One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. I would not hesitate to recommend the Abadia for people that understand value for money. Its simple, clean, unpretentious and comfortable. What more could you want for £37 per room per night?
Cute with faults
The Abadia is ok but with some problems. On a positive note it was cute and quiet. However the negatives would prevent me from staying here again. The hotel is really a 2 star facility. The AC could not cool the room, the reception desk is staffed with people who are incapable of answering questions when the manager is not present, the cable television did not work properly, no safe, no telephone instructions, and the hotel is about a 20-minute walk from most attractions at or near the center of town. I am not a traveler with high expectations but I do expect things to work properly and the staff to have a basic working knowledge of the facility and the local area. We stayed at 4 hotels in Spain and this is the only one I would not recommend.
Good value for money, lovely place
The Abadia Hotel is very nice, clean, recently renovated and unpretentious. You will not find better value for money in Granada. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I have read some of the comments about noise, but the only time I found there to be some noise was when the maids were cleaning the rooms - and this took place late in the morning. I spent 5 days at the hotel and slept extremely well every night. There are many small cafes in the vicinity and one can easily get breakfast nearby. I would go back again for sure. I agree with the comment that someone made when they said that people who complain about the Abadia are a bunch of moaners!
Don't bother
Don't bother to stay here if you are used to management that cares that your stay is enjoyable. My husband and I found it challanging that even though we complained numerous times over numerous days to different hotel staff that we were dying of heat, we were told that the air conditioning was working. It was 27 in our room. The dial goes from 10-30. The staff was arrogant, and said that the manager doesnt' care if their guests are happy. People still come. I don't think I have ever had anyone tell me that before. The rooms are clean, but there is no restaraunt in the hotel so when you want a coffee and breakfast your choices are to go to a smoky filled spot about 3 blooks away. We found it out of the way and not even close to the sights wanted to wisit. Not a convenient location! By the way, during our stay 3 separate guests all from different countries found similar fault with the hotel. A vacation is truly made if the hotel is a nice place to come back to. This one was not!!!
A Gem of a hotel in a beautiful city
We stayed for 1 night only at the Abadia hotel in granada at the end of a fantastic 10 day trip through Andalucia. Looking at the map before driving into granada I was concerned that we were not right in the centre of town, but that is not the case - it is a very walkable city - we walked from the hotel, through the university district, up past the cathedral and up to the Albayzin quarter overlooking the alhambra - back down through other areas of the city and back to the hotel - all with 2 children in sweltering heat - and no one complained - so it really is very accessible to all that granada has to offer. With reference to a previous comment about driving - i was dreading the journey in to granada - I have driven here on a previous visit and got totally lost - but the directions the hotel gave were excellent and it is actually very well signposted from early on (I don't know if these signs are new but they are a great help). The hotel itself is absolutely charming - the biggest selling point the wonderful staff. We accidentally booked the rooms for the wrong night so arrived on a saturday having booked for the previous night. Luckily they had 2 rooms we could fit into, and very generously charged us less than the full rate for 1 room only for the previous night. All the staff we encountered spoke perfect English, gave us really helpful advice and a detailed map on which they highlighted restaurants, cafes, street markets etc. the owner in particular was absolutely charming - we forgot to ask his name - but many thanks. I travel a lot on business so am used to staying in very expensive corporate hotels (most of which i hate - totally lacking in atmosphere). This hotel equals any of these in cleanliness and surpasses them in value for money. It is tucked off down a fairly grotty side street but this means it is quiet too. And it really is close enough to all the action. We will definitely be back (the city is wonderful) and i will recommend the hotel to all my friends too. what a brilliant find from previous trip advisor reviews.
No complaints
Stayed for three nights in June 2006. Single traveller. Ground floor room adjoining courtyard. No noise from street but thin interior walls - not a great problem. Room fine - spotlessly clean, large well equipped bathroom. Most impressive feature: extremely friendly and helpful staff. Whoever was on duty was pleasant and did everything to help. They all spoke excellent English. I needed to buy an adaptor for my phone charger but one was offered to me at reception as soon as I mentioned it; I made a call to England from my room using the hotel line and I wasn't charged for it. I'd definitely go again.
When in Granada......
My daughter and I are travelers. We have visited many places within the US, Mexico, Canada and Europe. A month ago we visited Spain, our motherland. La Madre Patria. This words are very often use by Latin Americans when talking about this beautiful country. Needless to say, after hours of traveling by train from Madrid to Granada, we were happy when we checked in at Abadia Hotel. We were amazed how friendly the staff was. My daughter and I were very impressed when listening to them greeting and talking to the guests in different languages, not to mentioned how exquisite their Spanish was! Abadia Hotel has so much more to offer then many other hotels I have stayed in before. The staff was very knowledgeable of the Andalusia Region. Fermin one of the staff members gave us tips of places to visit outside the city limits. We decided to follow his advised and visited The Alpujarras, a breath taken place where one will find, Capileira, the tallest village in Spain. What a wonderful and healthy experience. I, a writer for children's books, am now inspired to write a tale on this region. If you visit Granada make sure you make Abadia Hotel your hotel. Thank you Jose Antonio, Roseline and Fermin for 7 wonderful days in your hotel.
Lovely Hotel
We stayed one night in this lovely hotel, but wished we could have stayed longer. Very well located in the center of the city, close to public transportation (to the Alhambra), even though it is very quiet because in a small street next to the main one. The staff was very helpful, volunteering to keep our bags for us when we checked out, giving us directions...etc. The room was very clean and spacious. It has AC that doesn't work if you leave the windows open (for ecological reasons) and the bathroom is also fine. If you are driving, it is very hard to find!!!
