Very convenient for Stonehenge, but that is the best I can say about this recently extended Travel Lodge.
The stay began badly as the car park has 48 spaces free of charge, available on a first-come first-served basis. It was more than full and we had to use the overspill lorry park which has no CCTV cameras and was across a busy exit road.
What a shame the receptionist felt too busy to smile or be welcoming. We had to queue to check in and after some hesitation were allocated a room in the extension. This meant going back outside, retracing our steps with our entire luggage and clambering up narrow stairs through stiff fire doors to the first floor.
The room was tiny and very crowded which is unusual in a Travel lodge. The shower room was extremely small too. Although the building was extremely new it felt clammy and smelled musty. The bed was too soft and too small for two people to sleep in any comfort and we both felt jaded and unwell in the morning.
It was as if the extension was very much a 'second best ' option and this was extremely disappointing as we had paid full price for our stop-over.
There was a lot of noise in the night from other guests which disturbed us. To fill in time while they calmed down we moved the car into the main car park to help with a swift exit in the morning.
Unfortunately, we were not able to leave on time as a huge delivery van was double parked in the centre of the access roadway preventing many of the guests from leaving.
The staff seemed oblivious, which sums up the 'take it or leave it' attitude at this Travel Lodge. Needless to say we will leave it next time!
