Just stayed a week at the flamenca. Found the position of the hotel quite good, 10 mins from centre and just a small steep 5 - 10 min climb from Burriana beach. Room was on the "back end" of the hotel and we had no beautiful vistas, no tv and and quite a lot of noise from a... more

Nice Hotel - but very lax security !
The hotel itself was great and so were the staff. The room we had was a decent sized room with a balcony and good size bathroom - but we'd paid extra for a double rather than a twin room as i'd previously read about the smaller twin rooms. Unfortunately the room was right over the kitchen but to be honest it didn't cause too much inconvenience. The bathroom on the other hand yielded an intermittent sewer smell that was very unpleasant so we had to keep the bathroom door closed. The food at this hotel is very nice and the choice is second to none. The drinks at the bar are priced similar to most hotels in Nerja but beware of the pricey wine in the restaurant. We were charged 12.50 Euros for a bottle of Vino SOL that only costs £3.68 here in Tesco's. The entertainment is OK with certain artists putting more effort into their acts than others (especially Neil Philips who was superb!). The entertainment finishes at 12 midnight due to the noise and as the weather was good the entertainment was outside by the pool so beware, if you want an early night don't get a room overlooking the pool! This hotel is ideal for a relaxing holiday away from lager louts and screaming kids. It's quite a social atmosphere but hey, it's up to you to make conversation right? We had a great time at this hotel right up untilthe penultimate night when we were woken up at 4am by a burglar who was going through our belongings as we slept. I managed to chase the b@stard out over the balcony but he got away with most of our belongings. Unfortunately the response that we got from the Thomsom tour operator & hotel left us with a bad taste in our mouths - the hotel manager never even made an effort to come and see us! <---- but that's another story. In general the hotel security is poor - anyone can walk in off the street and ask for any room key without being challenged. Also when you check in they ask to keep your passports for 24 hours to photocopy them but then they go and leave them in the room key pigeon holes behind the reception in full view of everybody. Would i go back? Sure i would, but wouldn't stay in room 222 again !
Fab Holiday
This was our first stay at the Villa Flamenca and we can’t wait to go back. I booked this holiday online instead of going through a travel agent but before booking I found out as much as I could about this hotel and was a little concerned about other people comments about the rooms being very small so we were presently surprised when we arrived. Our room was at the front which at first I though I would have like a room at the back overlooking the pool but after the first few nights I was glad we weren’t as every night the entertainment went on till after midnight which normally would have been a problem but this holiday we planned to go on as many trips as possible and some were very early starts especially the trip to Tangiers. The food at the hotel was excellent, we did over hear some people complaining about the food but you’ll never please every one and the staff were brilliant we found that they would go out of there way to please. All in all I’d give this hotel 10 out of 10, looking into going back in September.
Loved every minute
I'll start with the only negative, yes the toilets are tiny, but I really don't spend much time in there so it didn't waste my holiday one bit. The Villa Flamenca is a delightful little hotel, in my opinion the food was first class, if you go abroad expect the food to be different from what you get at home, maybe I'm just one of these people who chill out when I go on holiday and enjoy the moment. Hire a fan, it doesn't cost that much, why spend all that money and not make things comfortable for yourself. The hotel entertainment is at night only, there was a different singer every night, like all places maybe not everyone's cup of tea but the centre of Nerja was only 15 minutes walk away so you could walk off your dinner and find other entertainment to suit your tastes. On the Friday evening there is a gala buffet, I didn't think the food could get any bettter, it was wonderful, we were greated at the door by the manager, given a flower and a small glass of brandy afterwards there's a Flamenco evening. There's not much to do for young children or teenages but the Villa Flamenca is not aimed at that age group. We're in our early 40's and we were quite happy to sit and chill out, there's nothing worse than going on holiday and have it ruined by lager louts, you'll not find anything like that here. It's the second time I've been to the Costa Del Sol, I went to the other end of the island the last (and only time may I add), Nerja is such a lovely place I would return and would have no hesitation in recommending the Villa Flamenca to my friends.
never again
hotel friendly but bathroom of hotel room extremely small, no leg room to be able to sit on loo properly! seating in dining room reminded me of school with seating organised in rows.
Check Rooms
I have just returned from holiday and although we had a lovely time and I agree the hotel was very nice, I think it depends where you are. When we booked the holiday we asked for two double rooms as were told these would be slightly bigger. On arrival our rooms where on the top floor (no prob as lift) above the reception area so was very noisy and the balcony was tiny, just about manage one person to sit out there even though two chairs and a table. Also as it was quite cold the fire was on in reception and the chimney was just outside our room so if we went on balcony we choked with the smoke, the room was dark and dingy the furnishings were very old and if you are happy sitting in a bath with your chin on your knees well go for it. My eldery parents were in the room next to us and could not sleep at all with the noise. We did complain to the management and when rooms became free elsewhere we were moved but this was on the 5th night. Well what a difference the new rooms were, talk about the paupers and the rich. Our new rooms were beautifully furnished and bathrooms were full size, had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. My advise is check the room you are going to and for further information our rooms were 421 and 420 AVOID. On a lighter note the food was great
Excellent value
I have just returned from a week staying at the Villa Flamenca. I have nothing but praise for the hotel - the food was excellent, a great choice on the buffet, something for everyone. The service from all the staff in the hotel was first class, everyone was friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room overlooking the pool with a sunny balcony (most welcome in Jan/Feb!). My only comment would be that the room could have had a little more storage space but overall excellent, would recommend to anyone.
A friendly Spanish Hotel
We have just returned from Nerja, Villa Flamenca, on arrival we were met by the hotel staff and our thomsons rep they all offered a great time at the hotel and true to their word that,s what we got. The hotel sevice and staff could,nt be any better and our rep was excellent. We did two excursions and they were also great, a night out to see the four tops a good show, then we went to Gibraltar for the day we did the tour of the rock then to see the dolphins and a bit of shopping in between this is a trip i would advice anybody going there not to miss it was excellent and the tour guides we had on both trips were great full of all the information of the country more than was asked of them. We will return to Nerja to the Villa Flamenca where the hotel and locals make you so welcome. Thanks for a great holiday.xxx
EXCELLENT HOLIDAY!
What an excellent holiday! We stayed in the rooms above the swimming pool so had a great view. Luckily we had air conditioning in our room so it was always comfortable. The food was better than I was expecting after reading some of the reviews. The only complaint I have is there was no courtesy room available. We were lucky enough to meet a couple who offered us their room to shower and change. Nerja is a beautiful place, although I think over the next couple of years the place will become quite busy. I would recommed this destination and hotel to anyone. We had a great holiday and met some really lovely people. Hope to go back soon.
Had a great holiday
Just returned from two weeks at this small but friendly hotel. Room we had over looking pool, was spacious and adequate (been in better/been in worse). Food was fine, but as with all hotel food you get a bit fed up after 10days or so. Staff were friendly and helpful as were most of the people staying, probably because it is a smaller hotel with a smaller pool area. I certainly would recommend it to friends and return at some point in the future. Overall we had a great holiday with nice hotel, decent food, great weather and friendly people.
Pleasantly Surprised
Ok, where do I start? Booked a very late deal for a quick week in the sun. We knew we would end up in any one of 3 hotels, one being the Villa Flamenca in Nerja. On reading the reports on this site we were a bit nervous when our coach stopped outside this hotel and told to collect our luggage!! What a surprise, on entering the reception area you are taken back in time to a traditional Spanish Hotel. Very clean, staff very friendly. The bedroom was on the small size and only a ceiling fan to keep you cool (at a small hire charge) but you don't spend 24hrs a day in it? It has also an annexe, so if booking ask to be situated here because the rooms have air-con and are bigger than the original hotel. Food is varied but once again no one is dragging you in to the dining hall everynight, Nerja town centre is only a 10 minute walk downhill although a 20 minute walk back!! Situated on what is known as cardiac hill I soon put on a brave face when an elderly spanish lady passed me going up and I am only 42!!! Lots to do in the local area and the staff of the Flamenca will do all then can to help you. Thanks for reading and have a great holiday. Malcolm and Jackie Cross (July 2004)
