I agree with the comments that this is a 'nice' hotel in a great area. However I do think that it only deserves a 2 star rating.
The biggest disappointment was the dining room. It was totally disorganised. People wandering around looking for tables and bumping into people with plates of food. (On our first night we thought at least someone would have directed us to a table). The food, whilst plentiful was 'good food spoiled', and the cleanliness of the cutlery, crockery and most of all the wine glasses left a lot to be desired.
We did have a nice room however, which I think was due to asking for an annex room. I heard some of the comments from people staying in the main building and apparently the bathrooms were very small.
I would definitely recommend a holiday in Nerja, but I would only go back to Villa Flamenca if the option of bed and breakfast only was offered.

Excellent hotel clean and tidy. Food was excellent, staff courteous and friendly.
Situated in an excellent position for exploring the area. Rooms although on the small side were clean and bed clothes and towels changed regularly. For the price you will not find better half board accommodation.
Holiday was partly made as no children were present in the hotel. If you’re looking for a lively disco type holiday and hotel this place is not for you. If your looking to relax and just chill out it certainly is.
The other massive plus point was that drinks from the hotel bar were no dearer than the local bars. Warning though happy hour between 4.30 and 5.30pm gets very busy.

Arriving at the hotel was nice, the hotel was very clean and pleasant to be in. The location was great, suits a person/people looking for a more relaxed holiday. The staff were well spoken. In the evenings there is live music and every Friday they put on a flamenco dance show, which is fantastic. The local area was nice lovely mountain views!!
The closest beach is only 5min walk away, clean with a good atmosphere. Hotel is 30-40 mins stroll away from the centre called the plaza. Lots of restaurants and places to see, it gets quite busy at night! If you don’t mind a walk, then villa flamenco is for you, the surrounding area is lovely very old traditional style of building. Narrow streets with coble stone. Again the hotel has a clean and well looked after pool, with a lovely garden area. At the end of the holiday I didn’t want to leave.

I would just like to echo all the other positive remarks about the hotel and the area it is situated in. However, I would suggest avoiding January as the hotel accommodates a lot of students from a London college who are studying tourism, and by their behaviour it's the first time many have been abroad without the close eye of their parents!
The rep was very helpful and the evenings entertainment very good - I have Sachas cd in the car! Hopefully we'll get back again before long.

I have stayed in many 3* hotels before and my first impression of the Hotel Villa Flamenca was one of disappointment. The hotel is very dated and in need of some modernisation. The average age of the hotel guests at this time of year is around 65 but don’t let this put you off, they were all very friendly and loved to talk. This hotel is perfect for those in this age group. The pool is small but never more than 2 people in at a time, although the sunbeds are very busy and not much room in between. The bedrooms are small and the bathrooms although have everything in are minute, not very good unless you are a midget!
My advise would be to make sure you book a room in the annexe and that the reception staff are aware of this when you book in. This being a much newer part of the hotel where the rooms are of a much better size. The staff especially the reception and cleaning staff could not have been more helpful.
The food is acceptable and plenty to choose from if a little boring if you are there for more than a few days.
Beware! The only road down to the beach is very steep it is appropriately named Cardiac Hill! We stayed in the hotel a week and there were no fewer than 4 guests who had bag snatched in the roads around our hotel so don’t take a handbag out if at all possible. Many guest return to this hotel year after year and are well known to the staff. A perfect place if you are over 55 or just want to soak up the sun and no more. Entertainment every night although the same thing is repeated throughout the week. Look out for Sacha, brilliant singer who will be famous one day.

A lovely hotel in a pretty and quiet location of the Costa del Sol. Had never visited mainland Spain before and was very impressed.
The hotel is on a narrow, pretty street with lovely little white houses. You must visit the ‘Balcon de Europa’ during the day and then again by night. The surrounding streets come alive - there are little shops down every street - it has to be seen! Do have lunch at the Hotel Balcon de Europa, it’s very nice.
The hotel itself is clean and friendly with some nice seating areas to relax. Entertainment is held every night outside around the pool. The room: our room was rather small, but it was clean; the bathroom also small (don’t bang your head on the shelf - it hurts!). Didn’t go much on the lumpy pillow and lumpy mattress.
Food okay - they seem to stick to English Fayre. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and have a sense of humour (which is quite rare). Andalusia night on Fridays and this I thought was the best night for food, serenaded by Spanish musicians as you eat (only for 5 mins or so), and followed by Flamenco Dancers later in the evening.
There is a small English owned shop (sells groceries, water, gifts, newspapers) just across the road, although I would check out the prices at the Spar supermarket at the top of the road first, as we found out they were cheaper on a few things like water (a bit too late into our holiday).
Would we go there again? YES!

What a lovely hotel. Within easy walking distance of the beach, shops, bars and restaurants.
We were very impressed with the food, as we are both quite fussy. A good choice every dinnertime, with dishes labelled in English, German and Spanish. A vegetarian menu is always available, and although it remains unchanged, there are sixteen dishes to choose from.
The staff are all eager to help, and any problems were quickly rectified (so I heard, as we did not make any complaints). The rooms are quite small, and the balconies a bit pokey, but kept very clean. Beds were being replaced while we were there, so hopefully this will alleviate the uncomfortable beds!! This is a fairly small hotel, but all ages are welcomed.
The trip to Gibraltar is long and tiring, but well worth a visit. The Highlights Trip is ok, but not one to be repeated. I overheard that it is much nicer to take the bus to Frigliana, although the reps try to discourage this (no trip commission?).
It is well worth a visit to this friendly hotel, in one of the less busy Costa del Sol resorts. Many people return year after year to this hotel.

The Villa Flamenca is in a residential area of Nerja and about a 15 minute stroll down to the centre. We had a twin bedroom in the annex but would have preferred a double room if there had been any. The bathroom was of a good size although it was getting a bit tired looking.
Towels were changed every day and the rooms were cleaned well every day. The hotel itself is very friendly and the average age when we went was 50 plus. I would not advise this hotel for anyone with young children, as there is only a swimming pool - no paddling pool for toddlers. The food in the restaurant was good, although it did seem to get a bit monotonous towards the end of the week.
As someone else said, it did get a bit chaotic at times, trying to find a free table, but if you went to dinner a bit later, say 8pm it was no problem. The entertainment was good. It was lovely sitting around the pool after dinner having a chat and listening to the singers.
I would definitely visit Nerja again as it is a really lovely Spanish resort with lots of winding streets with bars and shops and I would probably stay at the Villa Flamenca.
