Sep 2006, Miss J Smith

This hotel was fantastic. We paid £500 pounds for 3* allocation on arrival for 2 weeks and ended up here. We were impressed with our room, very clean and spacious and poolside!
Pools are cold yes but if you jump in it soon warms up. Rooms are cleaned everyday and fresh towels every other day. The buffet restaurant is ok we ate there twice but wouldn’t make a habit of it. Shop not badly priced, there is a netto down the road which is better for every day things.
Resort itself is very much family based, not good for 21yr olds!
Food is awful not a decent restaurant around. However if you venture to Marina Rubicon head to lanis snack bar which is probably the best place to eat....Chicken and canary potatoes FAB!

Aug 2006, Mrs T Scholes

I've just got back from a fantastic family holiday 6 of us in total 4 children 3, 6, 7 & 17 and we all had a lovely time. The apartments were not luxurious but we got exactly what I expected, for what we paid. Our apartments were clean and were cleaned/fresh towels nearly everyday. The maid was lovely. We spent a lot of time around the pools which were also cleaned daily. Yes the water was cold but we discovered the best way was to jump straight in and it didn't feel so bad. The rep was around nearly everyday and was pleasant.
The resort is also very nice we spent time on the beach and walking to the harbour and marina. We also took the ferry (Fred Olsen) over to Fuerteventura, this was a little expensive I thought 108 Euro's for 2 adults and 2 children but the ferry was very nice and was a good day out, the Armas ferry may be a cheaper alternative.
The best night out that was enjoyed by all of us was the Texas Rancho country and western night it was fantastic we went with the organised excursion the reps will look after the kids and we let them (after checking the youngest was happy with the rep) we enjoyed line dancing, live band and the bronco bull although the food and drink was included we still managed to spend a small fortune it's very hard not to get into the swing of things and buy the hat's etc.
The main entertainment on an evening is eating out we went to lots of different restaurants including the restaurants that have been mentioned. We enjoyed every meal.
I would recommend the sun park apartments and definitely Playa Blanca to my friends if they wanted a relaxing holiday suitable for the family.

Apr 2006, Miss G Edwards

Contrary to the comments of most of the above reviews, our holiday was fantastic, 7 of us (ranging from 17-19 year olds) visited in our Easter holidays for one week. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome and the staff were very helpful and professional (which was the case throughout our stay.)
We were allocated our apartments, 2 adjoining as we had requested and we were very pleased with what we had, although some of the furniture may have been chipped- what do u expect from a popular resort. The swimming pools were immaculate and the gardens were well cared for also. The bar was like a time machine back to the 70's- with all its neon, we found it hilarious, and also very reasonably priced. (Very generous!)
We found that the beach, shops and restaurants were close by- as it had said in the brochure, and that our rep was on hand whenever we needed her, she was absolutely fantastic.
We decided to splash out whilst we were away and went on the catalanza gold catamaran day- it was great, all the activities were thrown in, plus a free bar all day and lunch was also supplied.
Over all our holiday was fantastic and we all would certainly recommend the Sun Park and Playa Blanca, and we hope to go back next year!
(Oh the weather was fantastic- we had snow back home whilst we were there!)

Mar 2006, Not Specified

The apartment was well equipped and very clean, the towels were changed every second day. The food in the buffet cafeteria was very disappointing, there were four pools one of which was supposed to be heated, we never found it.
We found some good eating places, Mollie Malones which is beside Burger King, the Jumbo Chinese restaurant and the steak and pizzeria.
If you are thinking of hiring a car give Direct car hire a miss as their 100% comprehensive insurance is not 100%, it doesn’t cover damaged tyres or lost keys, this isn’t explained to you until you have a problem.
I would certainly go back to the resort and possibly the hotel.

Well contrary to the opinions...

Mar 2006, Mr DB Latter

Well contrary to the opinions expressed above I can say that I would very much try to avoid staying at this hotel. We were put there on a Late deal - allocation on arrival - after paying £800 for 2 people for 7 days, after being sold a minimum level of comfort and luxury, a 3T rating which is Thomson’s own rating system not a conventional star based system.
To our dismay upon arrival at our allocated room we were looking out over a corridor and a skip, the 'apartment' itself smelled of damp and dust and some other unmentionables. The room decor was shabby, every piece of furniture was chipped and in some cases broken, one of the chair legs had on it what appeared to be dried blood all over it. Without lab testing I cannot confirm this is what the substance was ;) Also the bathroom door would not shut. It was appalling in so many ways. We immediately complained and were moved to another room which was mostly the same but smelt better. After half hour we worked out how to get electricity. Then after another while we worked out that the fridge didn't work so we went to reception to get someone to fix it.
The main problem we had with our room eventually was that the bedding stank of damp and dust - it was really horrible. We had to get the bedding changed but to no avail. In the end we took to leaving the main covers on the bed to keep the smell in so we ended up cold and uncomfortable.
The hotel itself was shabby and dirty with paintwork faded stained and chipped everywhere. We found countless instances of things that should have been fixed or cleaned. The bar was disgusting and overpriced. I would not let a dog eat in the restaurant and counted myself lucky that even though I found out that people paid £200 each with Thomson’s to be half board that I did not pay any more than I already did for half board.
There is no way this is comparable with other 3T Hotels. We looked at the hotel next door the Sun Beach - same group - and that was lovely and was also 3T. Please be aware that the rep Martin told me that Thomson’s have only just taken up a contract with Sun Park and that ALL Late allocation is placed there. So if you spend a lot of money at the last minute like I did you will be put here regardless and treated like a second class citizen. Of course I am in the process of complaining but I also really want people to know of our experience so they can avoid them, this really was the worst holiday either me or my partner have ever been on.
The resort is fine, it was exactly what we asked for so no complaints there, except to say that if you are looking for an element of sophistication in either your drinking or eating you should avoid Lanzarote altogether and go somewhere else. We did not have one decent meal or cocktail all the time we were there. Horses for Courses if suppose.

Feb 2006, Mrs P Gibson

I found the apartments to be a good size and clean. They perhaps could do with a little updating in some areas but in general we were very happy.
The swimming pools were very cold but it was January so what can you expect. The restaurant was buffet style and adequate. The 'entertainment' areas such as the pool tables and gym could do with some updating.
We had an enjoyable holiday and were kept busy most days with things to do and places to go. I highly recommend Mollies Irish Pub. The food there was great and really nice people.
I would consider going back to the Sun Park again.

Jan 2006, Mr C Mitchell

Overall, I thought that there was some problems with the sun park hotel whilst I was on holiday. They were:
The swimming pools were real cold, as i got out my legs were blue and took me ages to warm up
There was no entertainment on the hotel apart from a karaoke special.
The Pool tables and also the arcades were old and needed updating.
Also, there wasn’t enough cleaning utensils to keep our apartment clean
But other than that it wasn’t a bad holiday because the staff were helpful but I wouldn’t go to that hotel again.

Nov 2005, Miss A Mitchell

We were pleasantly surprised with the Hotel. The cleaners were there practically every day! and they were such lovely ladies. Couldn’t speak a word of English though! but not at all rude. I found the supermarket slightly expensive but ok, we did shop around for cheaper prices but it was just as expensive everywhere else. The staff on reception were nice and could speak ok English.
The pools are lovely and they are cleaned every day, there are plenty of sunbeds which are free but you can pay for the cushions to cover them but are comfy without. The beach is 5 mins walk, it is a stunning beach and costs 250 euros for a bed, there is a bar/restaurant there, it does nice food, nothing fancy, we did however find the staff to be quite rude, they barely speak English and if they don’t understand you they ignore you! We had a great time in Mollies Bar and we walked further round into Playa Blanca Town approx 10 mins from hotel there is a massive choice of restaurants all reasonably priced.
We ate at the Chinese called Sun City and I highly recommend that. The meal was excellent. All in all a very good holiday, better for couples and families though. And you will enjoy your stay at the Sun Park Apartments.

Sep 2005, Mrs C Groom

The Sun Park apartments are a short distance from the beach and 10 minutes from the centre. The rooms are a good size and clean. There is a TV, fridge (although this could do with replacing),cooker/microwave, and a good supply of cutlery, crockery etc. If I was going to be critical the rooms and equipment are getting to the stage of needing refurbishment and updating.
Playa Blanca itself is most suitable for couples as it is a reasonably quiet resort. Thankfully there were not any noisy and drunk Brits which we were there but perhaps that is because the evenings are low key.
There is a good selection of restaurants including a number of Chinese. The ones we liked best were La Cuadra, Los Heriverdos, Cantina Mexicana, and El Marisco.

Sep 2004, Miss S Corr

I had, overall, a nice time in Sun Park. It was very warm, even as late as September. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and is beautiful, with many available sunbeds (there’s a small charge) The sea is a welcome cool down, and again.. very beautiful! But watch out for the tide coming in. It is a resort suited to families and couples with many fantastic restaurants, typical holiday shops and one or two nice bars. Try out Mollies Irish bar .
The hotel is idyllic, with 4 pools, many sunbeds, palm trees - it almost feels like your own private villa. You can visit a neighbouring German-speaking sister-hotel with many facilities including its spa which I highly recommend. I found the staff in the hotel to be quite unhelpful, however I understand that the language barrier is a factor in that. Bring a phrasebook! In all, it was a great holiday. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday :)
