Don't ever opt for this hotel. If you didn't get any place to stay instead cancel the trip rather than staying in this.
NO water in the bathrooms, stinking bathrooms and floors .No hot water no heaters,we had very bad experience.
Isle of wight is good place to stay but this hotel is awful.

Find a better place ( not difficult)

We have stayed at many places on the ISLAND and non can match THE MAYFAIR for its very LOW STANDARDS. The STAFF when AVAILABLE were RUDE and COULD NOT CARE LESS. The ROOM AND BATH ROOM were NOT CLEAN when we arrived and no cleaning was done while we were there.THE FOOD was ALWAYS COLD AND TASTELESS and much was SELF SERVICE. The Hotel is in an ideal spot with a good view of the coast but you would be better of sleeping in one of the beach huts and eating in the local cafe,s (which there are many of and all selling good food as we found out).

Not many hotels can make Faulty Towers look good, but the Mayfair managed it.The room was adequet, but trailing wires above floor level,to trip over were not appreciated. The bathroom was also adequet, but the towel rail un useable.Large screws stuck out from the door handle.Food was was rationed and poorly cooked and served.Table cloth was dirty the day we arrived, the same table cloth was still in use when we left.Never seen a receptionist, you left your keys, when going out.To retreive them when you returned, you simply walked into the open office and helped yourself.Anyone coming in off the street could do the same, and rob every room.
This hotel was part of a package deal with National Holidays.Alhough the coach and driver were exellent the hotel was DREADFUL.

food adequate and always hot. waiting staff very friendly but manageress of hotel not very friendly all seemed too much trouble. Problems with no hot water for two days, hotel very tired needs alot of general maintenance and general cleaning. Carpet had paint stains on ,curtains wouldn't close, window frames black with mildew all around, bathroom very shabby, generally very neglected. Reasonable entertainment at night and lovely location. Wouldn't recommend.

Where to start - (fawlty towers) - poor service and food. Dirty bathroom and when asked for it to be cleaned it was not. No clean towels in 4 days. Water was either hot or cold or not at all. No shower curtain with a hand held shower. Service self breakfast tea in coffee pot and coffee in tea pot to confuse and not drinkable. Make your own toast which was very hit and miss with the machine. No serving spoons and when asked for one was told would see if they could find one! Asian family run with not idea how to run a hotel with little idea about bar service - did not know the difference between whisky and gin. No entertainment on Friday and Saturday was shown a poster of the artist that was not coming. Went to another hotel for some entertainment. The only redeeming feature was it was close to the sea. Would not recommend staying there. We were most disappointed with our first trip to the Isle of Wight.

Just returned from a long weekend with Just go coach holidays. Bearing in mind what we paid, the hotel was just what I imagined it would be, a basic no frills hotel. Having said that the food was good, bar prices not overly priced, beds were comfy and the views excellent. Swimming pool is not in use and the gardens a bit over grown. Entertainment was provided on Saturady night. Resort itself is a bit hilly and not suitable for people with walking difficulties. All in all I enjoyed the holiday but not sure if I would return to this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel on a 5 day National Holidays coach trip. The hotel is ideally situated providing you are able to walk up and down hills. The views from the front of the hotel are brilliant but, unfortunately, we had a room at the back which overlooked the back yard of the hotel next door. There was no lift and there were steps up to the front door which was not ideal for people who are not very mobile.
The Mayfair Hotel can only be described as shabby. The furniture and the carpets were old, so much so, that we couldn't bear to walk on our room carpet without shoes on. Saying that, the room was clean and the bed linen was spotless. We had difficulty getting any hot water out of the sink tap in our room. The toilet and shower were in an ensuite room which looked quite new. The shower was excellent so we decided to stay in that room for that reason.
The staff were friendly but didn't seem at all organised. In the dining room we didn't like the idea that you had to collect your first course from a side table and carry it to your table which we thought was quite dangerous if you were having soup for example. Service was VERY quick - too quick sometimes as you ordered your cooked breakfast when you collected your cereal and the breakfast was on the table before you returned!
If I had booked this hotel independently I would have been very disappointed and although I would love to visit Shanklin again I would not stay at the Mayfair Hotel.

After an excellent Christmas at home,...

After an excellent Christmas at home, my partner and I decided to get away from the norm for our New Year’s celebration.
Not wanting to travel too far from home, in case of emergencies, we began scouring the internet for a suitable location. Although not immediately obvious, we eventually came across the Mayfair Hotel.
After a brief e-mail exchange with their reception (which incidentally was very easy to arrange) I called through and booked a double room for the 31st December - 1st of January.
The Staff at the Mayfair were helpful from the off, offering incredibly competitive prices, considering the time of year, and ensuring that we got the best deal for our money. We booked our travel arrangements through them, which automatically cut the cost for us and with that our holiday was booked.
Upon arrival our bags were taken from our car directly to our room by a well dressed, well mannered young man, who also directed us to the reception, where we met Ian and Chris Morey, the owners of the hotel, and Rachael, the receptionist with whom we had been communicating through the booking procedure.
We were given our room keys, as well as clear directions to our room, feeling more than satisfied by the very thorough meet and greet policy, which helped to settle us in, and make us feel at home, before we'd even arrived! The first big shock was the room.
I had not specified any particular type of room, yet our room was large, en-suite and housed a truly magnificent sea view, culminating in the beautiful rock formation of culver cliff a few miles away. The room, as you would expect, was tidy, clean and very well decorated with nice wallpaper which complimented the other furnishings.
After a thorough inspection of the room, we returned downstairs to the bar/lounge area, which also overlooked the bay, where we were met by Ian, Chris and Rachael and engaged in a full conversation about where we were from, what we did, if we had a nice Christmas, etc.
These were genuinely lovely people who clearly enjoyed working on a more personal level with their guests. The bar itself was very well stocked, offering a wide range of beer, lager and real ale as well as a choice selection of spirits and soft drinks, and was also very reasonably priced.
The barman, by the name of Ben, was a very amiable young man and also doubled as the wine waiter during dinner service, a very nice touch, we thought.
Next, dinner. One word, Incredible. We were seated by the head waitress and our waitress for the evening, Samantha (Ian and Chris' daughter) who was cheery and polite throughout. My partner and I enjoyed a delicious serving of asparagus soup, followed by Roast Turkey (with ALL the trimmings) which was rounded off with a massive helping of a well sherried - sherry trifle. The helpings were all large ones, the meal was hot, and when I requested extra gravy, I was given a full gravy boat for our table.
Ben came to our table toward the end of the starters and enquired as to whether we would like any drinks with our meal, after glancing at the wine list, we decided upon the house red, a very fruity wine, well bodied and even better priced! The wine list and menu itself were impressive to read and were only complimented more by the plates and bottle that were brought to our table.
The nightly, live entertainment began at around 8ish and immediately got us into the party mood and soon enough the drinks were flowing once more, between trips to the amply sized dance floor. 10pm saw the buffet open, which was comparable to a feast fit for royalty. Homemade pates, 9 different cheeses, a selection of cold cuts, salad, pasta...an incredible array of food which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. After another hour or so it was time for the countdown.
All the members of staff were present to celebrate the dawn of the New Year, milling, laughing but most importantly, ensuring we all had a good time. Auld land syne rang out from the hotel as we welcomed 2007. The bar eventually closed around 2AM and we retired to our room.
The next morning and again the food was impressive. A full English breakfast was exactly what it should be, complete with bubble and squeak!! After breakfast we took a stroll along the beach, which is just 80yds away from the front door of the hotel. It was a beautiful morning, spent on the seafront, watching the waves lap at the shore, it was incredibly relaxing.
We returned to the hotel as it was time for us to depart and we left Shanklin with new friends and kind smiles as we drove off.
A wonderful time was had and incredible for the money we paid. We will definitely be going again, but this time for a weekend in the summer, when the heated outdoor pool is open!
