Having just returned from a week’s holiday at the Cay Beach Princess Bungalows, we would like to agree with some of the previous comments on this page.
The star rating is far from 4 stars with the accommodation meriting no more than 2 star.
The bungalow (119) that was allocated to my wife and I, was situated next to a side road which the front door and patio overlooked, with a small wall and barbed wire fence 5 feet way!
We were greeted with a cockroach in the kitchen (at 1:00am not the best welcome).
Sheets were not changed all week, but the towels were changed 4 times. Kitchen equipment was basic, but as we ate out each day this was not a problem.
The pool however is excellent with plenty of loungers. Pool bar was good but tended to close too early.
No entertainment to speak of in the complex but as has previously been said; taxis only cost 3/4 Euros to get to the main entertainment complexes.
Food in the complex was very hit and miss. Seemed to run out on the buffet quite quickly and then take a long time to refill.
The Thomson rep Ross was good and was always willing to help with advice on the surrounding area.
All in all we enjoyed our week, but this was mainly due to the excellent weather rather than the accommodation.
Again Thomson - Sort out your ratings and stop trying to mislead us holiday makers.

On arrival at the bungalows we thought to our selves oh no, as it seemed we were out the way from everything.
Once checked in we made our way to the bungalow and were very impressed, the place was spotless and spacious.
The pool area was very good, a bit cold but being February that’s expected. There is also the pool bar where food and drink is served by friendly staff, don’t forget happy hour from 4pm to 5pm.
Taxis were always available within minutes and with it only costing 3 euros to go to the beach or main town there’s no need to wait for buses.
Aqualand is a must do, the slides rock plenty for kids and adults just don’t eat anything before you go.
We also visited Sioux city which was average the eat all you can BBQ was a bit disappointing pre made rubbish but the drinks were free all night even though you only get two hours to enjoy it.
Must give the main show a 10/10 though.
Overall the holiday was great, really enjoyed ourselves will be going back next year especially after the weather we had 26oC everyday.

After reading the reviews about the bungalows I have to admit I was a bit weary, but it was a great place to stay.
The cleanliness was great, the situation of the bungalows is really nice, the pool was excellent, cold but very well looked after with a pool bar for cheap but nice food and drinks.
We really enjoyed our stay. Only downside was our bed was quite uncomfortable we found, the maids were very good at cleaning; they even do your washing up!
Food quality was ok, breakfast was good at the resort, but meals weren’t too great but you can go out for a meal that’s only about 2euros to Faro shopping centre place with restaurants, or down to the beach front.
We had a great holiday, the Thomson rep was good, but we discovered we could of done the same things for cheaper if we had of not gone through Thomson. So its well worth seeing how much things cost before you book them up with the Thomson rep.
Overall our holiday was great.

Once we had arrived at Las Palmas airport a Thomson Rep showed us to our coach which was new and very clean.
The Thomson Rep then said she was unable to accompany us on our journey (no reason given) but the coach would be stopping at the Cay Beach, Cay Beach Princess and the Princess Bungalows.
Which gave me my first headache, as the name of the apartment / hotel, we were stopping at was the Cay Beach Princess Bungalows.
Before I could ask the question which one of the three was ours the Rep had left, it was only by watching the Coach driver unload our luggage, did I know this was the right stop.
The check in desk was very quick to get us to our bungalow and the bungalow itself was very clean and spacious.
The pool was also very clean and large.
The only problem with the bungalow was straight across from us about 5 meters was a workshop / building site where the noise of grinding wheels and banging started from around 8:30 to 6:15, this may be a temporary measure while work was being completed but who knows?
We were often up at around this time so this did not cause us too much of a problem, it maybe a problem thought for families with small children.
Much of Maspalomas was either being regenerated or built up as extensive work was being carried out in front of the hotel/apartment.
Nightlife in the hotel is very low key; I think they had a theme for 2 of the 7 night stay which was not brilliant.
If you go out of the resort Playa del Ingles is about 5mins away if you want bars / nightlife and we found Melonaras very good also for eating out at good restaurants.
One more thing to watch for is a taxi is usually quite cheap at around 3 euros to go to Playa del Ingles or Melonaras, but make sure you say the Princess Bungalows, as there are a few Cay Beach hotels.
The taxi driver informed me of this as he was driving in the wrong direction (may have been trying it on but will give him the benefit of the doubt).
All in all if you want a quite break (assuming the building work has stopped) then go here.

We have just arrived back from a 2 week stay for Christmas and New Year at Cay Beach Princess Bungalows.
We arrived on Christmas Day, and I do admit, we were ready to do battle with the rep, based on other people's comments on this site.
To say we were very pleasantly surprised was an understatement: the accommodation was very clean and more than enough room for two (although we did actually pay an "under occupancy supplement" as the bungalow was supposed to be big enough for three, one person staying on the sofa bed).
Think Thomson are pushing it a bit to expect three to be comfortable in there!
Surroundings to the bungalows were fabulous, very well maintained and the pool area was amazing.
Bungalows were cleaned very regularly and all staff were very friendly. Only drawback on the housekeeping side was that the bed sheets had seen better days.
Restaurant was very good, meals very varied and value for money.
We actually found the shop next door a bit on the expensive side, we found it a lot cheaper to go to the Yumbo Centre for shopping, (combined with an afternoon drink, of course!) However if you were desperate for basics, it was handy.
A cab ride to the Yumbo Centre was usually just over 3 Euros, an absolute bargain.
The famous Maspalomas Dunes are also on a cab ride away, well worth the visit.
All in all, a fabulous holiday, superb resort and an outstanding island, a holiday we will remember for years to come.
Please note Thomson how many people you can actually fit in a bungalow, reconsider your supplements.

One of the best accommodations we have stayed at but definitely not 4*, 3* more like as stated on the front of the bungalows.
Bungalows are clean and maids do come round regularly with all supplies, towels, toilet rolls etc. Other staff very friendly and helpfull.
Made the mistake of driving to a supermarket at Faro2 to do our shop because we thought it would be cheaper - don’t bother, the little shop just outside is VERY cheap and has everything you need. Fresh rolls everyday and doughnuts- delicious.
Didnt try the pool bar but used the restaurant for buffet 3 times- brilliant and cheap - food great -28 euros for 2adults and 2 children (drinks on top). Once again the pool was brill, kids couldn’t wait to get back from the beach to go in the pool!
Ate out 4 times but the only one we can comment is the Chinese (eat all you can buffet for 6 euros) - brilliant food and trays are regularly topped up. Chinese at melonaros. Drove to Playa Del Ingles - just too busy, got a headache - however to gat the best bargains you have to go to Yumbo centre.

We booked this two days before we departed. It was a allocation on arrival so we didn't know what to expect. Leaving Luton when it was snowing then four hours later it was lovely and sunny and 25oc was great.
We just hoped are accommodation was going to be as good as the weather. After a stroll round the whole complex trying to find are bungalow we were pleasantly surprised! They were clean, tidy and there is plenty of room. Due to the time of year it was fairly quiet so it was very peaceful round the pool. This suited us as we were after a nice quiet holiday.
The complex is some distance away from the resort centre but taxi's are so cheap. For us a week was perfect maybe two weeks would have been too long. Would go back to the complex but was not over keen on the resort.

Well what can I say! On arriving I really wanted to turn around and go home!
We arrived around 8pm and having not eaten since lunchtime we were looking forward to sitting down to a nice meal in a nice restaurant. As the bungalows were in the middle of nowhere (so it felt) this soon became apparent that this was not going to happen quite as soon as I would have liked! As no rep came along on the coach transfer we literally felt abandoned, fortunately we met a great couple (whom we later had many a laugh and beverage with!) who gave us directions to an Italian. So in all I think Thomson let us down to begin with.
How things look better in the morning! The pool area is, as already stated well worth the 4* rating, our 6yr old son loved it. Supermarket next door - ok little small but had all the essentials. Rep, Jamie, very friendly and helpful, offered to move us if the noise from the A1 (as I named it) got too much. Entertainment ok ish. Like others have said its well worth a couple of euros for a taxi to Meloneros etc, found a lovely restaurant the Sea & Golf at other end of Meloneros (Jamie recommended it) well worth a visit. Overall we had great time it’s you make of it but the accommodation is def not 4*.

Just arrived back from one of the best weeks holiday ever. After reading previous reviews I had a very open mind when I arrived and I wasn't quite sure what to expect, well what can I say apart from these bungalows are excellent and I for one can't wait to get booked up for next year again.
The weather was still very hot and humid for this time of year and I never had any problems regarding the accommodation. The pool area is astounding and well worth the four star by tour operators, however you will find when you are there that these bungalows only claim to be three star...I didn't think so.
Location for us was perfect and taxi fares are so cheap you will use them all the time, no more than 3 euro to playa del ingles, holiday world and Aqualand, which are great if you have kids.

We have just returned from the Cay Beach Princess Bungalows after staying there last year as well. The pool and surroundings are lovely and most of the staff are very helpful and friendly. There is the odd one that can’t be bothered with the residents.
The cleaners could have done more for us especially when it came to washing up properly. They would wash up and leave food on the plates, so I would re-wash them. They should include washing up liquid and and a scrubber. We also found the drying towel in the little sink you use to wash your bum!
The apartments could do with cheering up a bit but they are still quite nice.
Outside the apartments the surrounding areas are lovely, especially Meloneras.
The rep Jamie was pleasant and helpful.
The courtesy room however was disgusting! Make sure if you have a late flight you book to keep your room. We couldn’t as someone had already booked ours. The entertainment was great for children but not for adults as couples. Overall we had a good holiday there, again and would recommend it. There are always downsides wherever you stay.

My Fiancé Paul and I came to Cay Beach Princess bungalows as a first holiday abroad for us both and to also celebrate our engagement, the holiday was a huge disappointment and I spent most of it crying! I am glad we never read any of the other reviews before our holiday or we most certainly would have cancelled!
On arrival at around 12.30am we had to find our bungalow ourselves which was in the dark and right out the way, We spent far too long trying to find it so we had to go back to reception and asked to get shown to it. Once we were inside the floor was filthy and the fridge was disgusting. The bottom tray was full of dirty water.
We unpacked our things but were far to freaked out by the amount of cockroaches appearing in the bathroom (although we couldn’t figure out where from!) We ended up packing our suitcases and going back to reception (by this point its like 3am!) we asked for a different bungalow as we had spent a lot of money and wanted better accommodation. We were relocated to a bungalow which was right by the pool, it was a lot better although we were on guard for cockroaches! We were given insect spray which worked but we did see one DEAD cockroach on the second night.
The bungalows are not nice at all and there is no way they are 4 star. The walls are too thin and the rooms are too hot. We had to hire a fan for the week for 12 euros which certainly helped but it had to be kept on all night, most of the time we were waking up so hot that we had to take a walk round the resort at about 3am to try and cool down!
All in all the accommodation is mainly for kids. There is nothing for adults to do and once the pool closes at 8pm the resort is like a ghost town! The pool is brilliant though.
You have to move away from the resort to get any sort of entertainment. The shop next to the resort came in very handy and FARO II was brilliant for shops and food.
The best place to go was Jumbo centre, it is jam packed with shops and restaurants although you do get harassed whilst walking round the shops with people always trying to make a sale. Even on tea towels!
Holiday World was also brilliant. We watched the match where England got knocked out the world cup and the atmosphere was great all England fans together. We also went back there to see Portugal get knocked out too! RESULT!
The holiday was very disappointing and a huge let down for first time holiday. My fiancé and I ended up going to Blackpool for a week in August and we had a blast. A lot better than Gran Canaria.
I think Thomson should be a bit more honest when they are rating the Cay Beach Princess Bungalows and not charge so much! We spent a bomb and most of it was all just a waste. We will definitely not be going back here again.
Jamie the rep was helpful in some ways but in other ways he wasn’t really bothered by what we or other people had to say.
Not recommended unless you have kids and a brain!

Brilliant. Very clean. Good service. Pool was excellent for couples and families.
Rooms were cleaned all the time. My children loved it. Poolside meals were tasty and reasonably priced.
We have been going to gran Canaria for 15 years and cay princess is the best by far. We have just booked to go June 2007.
Water park 5 minutes away as is shopping centres.2 markets a week are 5 minutes away as well. We get loads of bargains.
Camel riding is fun. There is also a fun fair 5 minutes walk which is brilliant for the whole family.
