After reading the reports I thought the steps would be a problem. There are about 30 steps up to the pool level and a furture 12 steps up if you are on the second floor of the two story apartment, otherwise no problem. apartments are on two levels but both both are excellent. the apartment is just below a "Spar" which is excellent for your essentials, and about a 5 min stroll to the prommenade. Lots of eateries about and pubs so you can find one that tickles your fancy!!! Breakfast deals about "2euro 70" which is good. There are beaches about 10 mins walk either side of the prommenade although if you take left at the Casino there is a small horseshoe beach which is lovely. Matagora beach is about 20mins walk and Puerto Del Carman beach is 15mins to the right. Would definaltly go back as they are in a perfect position and clean and tidy as well as being quiet

If you are taking kids here it is a no go. we were on the second floor and we had 60-70 steps up with buggy- my 7 year old struggled. The apartments very basic with small tv in ours and no English language programmes. Maid service good five days per week and restaurant bottom good. No kids club and no park etc for children so when finished in pool they were fed up. I also booked family room and when I arrived we had two rooms. Would not go back.

These is quite simply an excellent holiday complex. The reception staff are THE BEST and Heime is truly bonkers but they can't do enough for you. We had asked for a ground floor appt. but the travel company hadn't passed this on so, despite being very full, they re-arranged things for our benefit. 1st Class!!!!
The rooms are clean, tidy and well eqipped with super cleaning ladies.
There are two pools and both are kept very clean.
Lots of sun loungers and brollies and a good bar & restuarant.
There is a spar next door with a pizzaria just a few yards away. The main strret of P.del Carmen is about 50 yards away and the taxis round the resort are dead cheap.
I'll be back.

Just got back this morning(like the writer bleow) and i was very impressed with the Atalaya.I actually slept in a different accommodation up the road(The Oasis) but spent alot of time in the Atalaya as my friends were there.
The appartements are basic but fairly spacious.Id recomend trying to get an appartment down on ground level by the pool.Theres a great little bar/snack house by the pool that offers a wide range of hot/cold food and drinks if you fancy just lazing by the pool most days as we did.Staff were very friendly.
As for for Peurto del Carmen itself, there was plenty to do.Lots of very good eateries along the front strip.Quite a good selection of bars too(you might get bugged by young english people with flyers offering shots alot though). Ricks Bar was the best we found, had a good laugh in there
We did pop the old town once, which is just a short taxi ride away.Theres a great restaurant on the harbour that serves some fantastic fish dishes.

Well...where shall I begin?!? Got back from Atalaya at 2am this morning and I am eager to get a revew on here!! Got everything we could have asked for - appartment were clean, in an ideal location - although if you like Old Town it's a little to far to walk to every day- nice pool, but the top pool was being done up (once it is done it will be nice as there's fantastic sea views up there). There's a spa supermarket next to the hotel - ideal for selfcatering.
As for the resort itself - lots to do, lots of resturaunts to choose from and a nice beach. One thing I would recomend to you is if you are tempted by the Lanis chain vist Cafe La Ola as the food and the sea views are brill as is the flaminco night on Fridays, but dont drink too much red wine like we did! I would not recomend going to any other Lanis as they are over rated!
The weather was nice - not too hot as the Lanzarote wind kept you cool.
Go on the Late Deals Grand tour if you want to see all the highlights of Lanzarote in one day - they are brill!
Anyway I could go on and on and on. Just to sum it up - everyone I spoke to said they will be returning to Atalaya.

These apartments were fantastic, the place was spotlessly clean, everything looked brand new apart from maybe the bathroom, but there was no problem. Everyone was friendly, puerto del carmen is so much fun, it was a slight walk to the beach, only 5 mins to the sea front but you had to walk along a bit to get to the grand beach. Was great, I advise going to see Tamanfaya that was amazing, but make sure you know exactly where you are getting picked up from cause we ended up missing a bus for a 50 euro catamaran ride and were never reimbursed. Overall though, Fantastic!

Excellent accommodation! The Atalaya...

Jan 2008, sandee

Excellent accommodation!
The Atalaya is very clean, the maid cleans 5 days a week. The gardens & pool area are well maintained.
Our room was on the second floor & perfect for the able bodied. We wouldn't have wanted to be higher as the complex has lots of steps, so I'd recommend requesting a ground or first floor room if you have trouble with steps or have young children.
The complex is perfectly located, about five minutes to the sea front, bars, & shops.
There is a Spar supermarket next door, useful for essentials.
The weather in January was warm but often cloudy, averaging about 20 degrees during the day, but was quite chilly at night so take a warm cardigan or Jacket.
Pto. Del Carmen was perfect at this time of year, I'm not too sure I would have enjoyed it as much in August as I would imagine it could get very busy in peak season. There were plenty of bars & restaurants to choose from. We preferred the bars in the old town, near to the Biosfera shopping mall. I would recommend La Cascada Puerto, a restaurant in the old town, if you want a special meal.
All in all we had a great holiday & would return to the Atalaya, Pto Del Carmen.

First time comment and I am now aware after reading other comments that my "User name" will have to be changed. Any hoo, these apartments were fantastic. Clean, roomy and provided some great views. Access to the strip was so easy and as your stay stretches, the wee, 'specially the the Chinese guys, get to know you and desperately try all sorts to get you to dine in their restaurants.
Not one bad experience however, dined in the Casino opposite, on the roof area and watched a fabulous storm come in, but for me, the best restaurant (Indian) in the whole world; is the one up by the Florida Apartments at the top of the hill. Never in my life have I tasted better!! Other restaurants, Spanish one on the way into the harbour area, next to the African goods shop is fabulous. Family run and you can tell by the welcome. Whole island impressed me and when I find my photo's.......
Oh, forgot the plot! Never cooked once and never ate so well, there is always a good, hate to call "English" brekkie available and we found the Lanni's place at the end of the road to be a good deal! Breakfast, pina colada and threat of redundancy all at the same time, If Carlesberge done holidays......
