Lizard King Resort

So we decided to come to Costa Rica for our first family vacation.
My older sister just moved there and she was dying for us to come and visit. My son just turned 2 years old and at first I was afraid Costa Rica would not be too 'kid friendly,' well, a few mosquito bites and a couple layers of sun lotion later we began to get weary of our stay.
The first hotel we stayed at was right on the beach - horrible, don't even want to remember the name, super filthy, not good for a 2 year old.
The second hotel we stayed at - the Lizard King - the one my sis recommended, but we did not go to first because it was across the street from the beach, not right on the beach - was run by a nice family, they were very helpful and had affordable rooms - I think we paid $30 a night for the 3 of us?
They had a pool, not more than 5 feet deep - which was perfect for my son’s safety, internet, and clean rooms! Hot water, bathrooms a bit run down though- I mean the water was heated with electricity, and we could see the wires! - but later I found out that most places are built like that in Costa Rica.
The owner they said they were going to begin remodelling during slow season, which did not help us at all, but at least it was nice they knew what they needed to do in order to make it better.
We ended up staying at the Lizard King the rest of our vacation, instead of at my sister’s place.
