Very disappointed

I have just returned from a holiday at Landguard Holiday Park and was very disappointed.
I booked this holiday with Hoeseasons, if I had known that the park was run by Park Resorts I would not have booked it, due to problems I had with one of their parks a few years ago.
To start with the parking was inadequate. The site was not full in fact there were 3 caravans missing in front of us and I know that the caravans either side of us was empty. But if you got there after about six you had problems parking. One night there was a caravan parked in the car park making even less space. Also the bays were so small once you got in to a bay you couldn't open the doors without hitting the car next to you. In fact I now have a small dent and chip in my paint work.
There is a sign near the reception saying 5 MPH. It's a pity the staff in their carts didn't take any notice of this speed limit, especially with all the children playing.
Next, despite the caravan being non-smoking it was obvious that someone who had been in there had smoked as outside the door were cigarette ends. I think you would agree seeing the grass and gravel covered in these things is not a very nice site.
The caravan looked nice and clean, with laminate flooring, but when I split some water on the floor and wiped it up the cloth was black. Also considering the proximity of the caravans there was no net curtains. So you had no privacy without pulling the curtains making the caravan very dark. Finally, on the Tuesday a bucket full of dirty water was left by the side of the caravan next to us, it was still there when we left on Saturday.

Having looked at the Languard website, I thought that the park resorts site would be a lot better than it actually was. We brought a trailer tent so were in the camping part.
The pitch sizes are incredibly small so you are very close to one another. Basically packed in like sardines!
When walking through the log cabin and static caravan part of languard, they have road lighting but as soon as u enter the camping part, there isnt a light in sight so you couldnt walk around at night without a torch.
The opening times for the pool is 10 till 5.30 which is ridiculous when you have young children who rise early and want to go swimming. And why shut so early?
The first day my children were let in the swimming pool on their own but the second day, they were left dissappointed as apparantly in a day the rules had changed and one adult couldnt go in with 3 children despite them being competent swimmers?
The bins were over flowing and there were bin bags surrounding the bins.
And worst of all was the cleanliness of the toilets and showers. This was shocking. I went to use the shower one day and there was a used tampon on the floor, two of the toilets were blocked, and having managed your wash you generally feel dirtier than when you went in!
The washing up sinks were blocked on one occasion and the staff just seem to sit in the reception office doing very little.
All in all, I certainly wouldnt recommend this site to anyone. Keep your distance!!

Landguard Touring Park - Should be cleaner

Good location, quiet and decent availability, but generally the facilities are grubby. The pool is like Pea soup and the tiles are full of mould. Well over-priced as the entertainment is rank as well.
The toilets and showers are no better and the pitches are quite small.
Just as well you don't want to spend time on the site as it is very average, but Shanklin is really nice and the staff were nice too, just a pity it needs a bit of investment and cleaning.

I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of our accommodation. We stayed in a Bronze 3 caravan, so wasn't expecting anything to luxurious. What we found though was a very clean, well equipped & very spacious caravan with all mod cons i.e TV/DVD, radio & microwave, central heating & double glazed. The holiday park itself was also of a good clean standard, with very helpful & friendly staff. This is an ideal place to stay with the kids & my eight & six year old did not want to come home! They enjoyed the entertainment, although in our oppinion it's more for the kids than the adults. The bar was very reasonably priced & the food served was excellent value for money. There are two pools one outdoor & one indoor, both of which seemed very safe & clean. There is a well equipped childrens play area in the middle of the site on the green opposite the entertainment site, along with a shop selling a wide range of essentials along with lots of things the kids liked too! I believe there is also a launderette on site (according to the welcome pack) but didn't have cause to use it. The park is very well positioned as it's only a short distance from Shanklins beautiful sandy beach, restaurants & shops. All in all a good value for money super holiday. One that we will remember for all the right reasons. We will definitely return to Landguard Holiday Park.

Used to be a lovely camping / caravan site (touring and static) until Park Resorts took over and has gone downhill ever since. Poor facilities e.g. pool opening hours, virtually non-existent kids club, poor entertainment, lousy food, expensive shop. Loads of booking errors (e.g. over-charging, duplicate invoices, wrong dates etc) and special requests (e.g. for disabled visitors) ignored. Also, quality of visitor has deteriorated - imagine a reality show called "neighbours from hell on holiday" and you get a picture of Landguard (boozing, swearing, kids left to own devises, kids as bad as parents etc etc etc). AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

We stayed in a Bronze caravan, as we were on a budget. Which was cold in the evenings and with a toddler not good. But the staff gave us heaters and extra blankets. They were excellent and helped out when they could.
We have re-booked for this year and go in May, and we can't wait. We are in a lodge this year. The park was clean and tidy. All staff welcoming and very friendly. Little shop on site sold everything we needed, and the meals at the restaurant are great value for money. Counting down the day's!! See you soon Landguard!

I paid OVER £800 for one week for a family of 4.It wasn't value for money. All the facilties in the brochure are on the site but they are no where near as nice as the brochure makes them look. The pools open at 10.00 am and are full by 10 past and they were really full the people could only bob up and down. The club was very small and out of date it was very difficult to get a seat. The caravan was a silver caravan with a very grubby carpet. The cooker knobs didn't work as they were worn out the maintenance man very kindly and quickly brought a makeshift knob for the oven which I could at least use even though I couldn't see the temperature.I was left able to use two of the four lights on the stove and the oven.I think the site requires some investment it is very run down and old, it has had its day.I was very glad that I was not on the touring pitches which were like a festival.I would not book this site again I would go the Isle of Wight but I would look for another site.

Just returned from a week at Landguard and had a brilliant time, caravan was spotless, few ants here and there but what do you expect when the weather is warm, entertainment was fine, indoor pool, outdoor pool and toddlers pool were clean and well managed, 2 play parks for the children, no cars anywhere within the caravan area which was great as you could let children wander without the fear of them being run over by some mad boy racer trying to get all four wheels off the ground over some random speed bump, loved it so much that we've booked to go again, anyone that classes this place as shabby must be used to holidaying at the Ritz, the whole site was spotless, not even a cigarette butt on the ground !!

We had a week booked here in Sept 2009 for myself, fiance and 19 month old boy. We stayed in a Silver rated static caravan (think it was a slightly wider than normal one), and to be honest, after reading some of the reviews of the place, I was prepared for the worst. However, our caravan was really really nice! I have never stayed in one before, and was expecting something a bit shabby judging by what some people had written on their reviews, but the caravan was in very good condition, the lounge and dining area and kitchen were absolutely great and spacious. The kitchen was fairly well stocked with all the basic utensils etc and had a microwave and really good cooker and hob. Granted the bedrooms were cosy, but did not expect anything different there. There was enough space in the compact wardrobes etc to store all our clothes etc, and as there were only 3 of us and hence only 2 bedrooms used, we put all our cases in the spare bedroom.
Was worried about how the travel cot for my little boy woudl fit in as had been told when booking that it would need to go in lounge (no thanks!) but managed to easily move one of the beds in the bedrrom so his cot fitted in.
Had central heating too which was great as it got quite cold at night (it did not work the 1st night we were there) so told reception the next day and a guy came round to fix it less than an hour later.
There were a couple of play areas there that my little boy loved too.
Did not really use the facilities at the place, as we were out and about each day, but the indoor pool looked ok. Went to the bar there once, and that seemed fine too.
I think that the caravan we had could potentially sleep up to 8 (2 in each bedroom and 2 people in lounge) but I think that would be pushing it some as you really would be living on top of each other, saying that though, it did have 2 toilets - 1 in bathrrom and also a separate one too. The shower, which looked basic was very powerful and also had a plug which was good as meant could bath my little boy after he got caked in sand from the beach!
All iin all, would def recommend this place esp for what we used it as which was a first proper holiday with a toddler. Shanklin has a great beach and is near loads of attractions too (some which are a lot better than others....but will leave that to you to discover!!)

Well never had any probs on arrival with car park being full of caravans but it was the Summer season.
The caravan was ok and only ok, when you spend over £900 for 10 days, expect much much more. Wasnt very clean & needed a refit to be honest. Shower curtains are no good When they are new. (without the mould)
Pool was acceptable, You could see the bottom.
Amusement's !! well they was not.
Entertainment ?? Not going to comment because not my scene, would rather go to local pub or make our own.
Shall not go back been several times to the Isle of Wight and normally stay at Sandown Bay. Now Riviera Park. We stay in same chalet each year ,which was refurbished last year(and has a glass shower screen without mould :-) for half the money. No entertainment but suits us. have added link here so you can visit the chalet owners website!
