" May 09 "

You get what you pay for. This is 3 star and that is what you get so don't expect more.
Stopped here May 09 and was very happy with the accommodation. Complex is located in quiet part of Playa Blanca and about 15 - 20 mins walk to main resort and 10 mins to beach. Staff were very welcoming on arrival and booked in with 5 mins of arriving. We were given room 1020, but had bad damp musky smell. Staff changed our room to 1017 without any problems. Room was at rear of complex and was very quiet. Room was clean, tidy and in good decorative order. facilities in the room was impressive, with, toaster, juicer, coffee maker, kettle and microwave. we were B and b so never eat in the room. maid came in 5 days of out 7 day stay and changed bedding twice, towels 3 times. Breakfast was good and plentifully. There were a selection of fruit, cereals, cheese, meats and yogurts. Toaster with lots bread and croissants. There was a sort of full english breakfast with boiled, fried and scrambled eggs. Spanish bacon and sausages, with tomatoes and beans. One day there was mushrooms. there is also tortilla, which was very nice. As we ate out, cant comment on other food. Supermarket about same price as Netto down the road, but I think both were a bit pricey! Top swimming pool is heated and attracts most people and has entertainment going on. Not for us so we went to pool outside reception, which was cold but quiet. There was always sunbeds and cushions available. Overall the complex was clean and comfortable. As we went out every evening hard to comment on the evening activities, but what we did see was poor in "My" opinion. Hotel is geared for the spanish, so expect things to be in spanish. If you want Brits abroad type entertainment and kids club, this may not be for you. Marina and main resort is around 15 - 20mins walk. plenty of restaurants in both and expect to pay around £20 for 2 courses and drinks in resort, but bit more in the Marina. there are several British bars with the usual Sky sports and English Fare if that's for you. Also a Burger King in the small shopping centre. If you like curry, i would recommend "Spices" indian on the promenade. Wont recommend anywhere else, as we all have different tastes.
Overall I would recommend these apartments for a relaxing holiday for young families and more mature couples. The resort of Playa Blanca is still developing and not for people wanting nightlife at the moment.

Advice: Nice qiet resort with lovely beach

" Sun, Sea and Sand - Perfect!  "

Myself and my boyfriend have just returned from a week away self catering in the Sun Royal Aparthotel, we were Originally booked to go to Cyprus but this was cancelled by another tour operator so had to find something very last minute, we travelled to Egypt last year with Portland and found them fantastic so booked this through them - it was my boyfriends first visit to the Canary Islands and he absolutly loved it and is trying to get me to book us up to go back already.
These apartments are perfect for a week in the sun - they had everything we needed and more. The rooms were spotless and were cleaned at least 5 times during our weeks stay (Bedding was changed twice). We didnt really have much to do with the staff there but on the occasion that we did need any help they were always polite and ready to help.
The trek to the main Playa Blanca resort is a bit tedius at times when you simply cant be bothered to walk - but most times it is nice to either work up and appitite or walk off your dinner on the way back home. The beach in Playa Blanca is beautiful and there is plenty to do like pedalo's, jetskis and banana boat rides aswel as shops and resturants along the sea front.
Weather at this time of year was a little cloudy but generally hot, the wind is a welcome releif sometimes - one day of rain but beats the weather in the UK hands down.
The only fault that i could find with these apartments would be the lack of catering for the English guests here - the TV in the room only had 1 English channel (with really old and dated programes on)I know that you do not go on holiday to watch TV but it is nice to have something to watch to pass the odd hours here and there. There was nightly entertainment in the hotel but was nearly always in Spanish, sometimes this wasnt a problem as it was dancing or singing and you didnt need to understand what was being said but other times a little consideration for the English/French/non Spanish guests would have been appriciated - there was the odd word or sentence that was translated but by this time you had switched off as it had all been in Spanish and you actually missed what was being said in English. We didnt have kids with us but we could see that the kids entertainment was great and there was always something going on to keep them entertained - although i do now have the kids club theme tune perminantly going around in my head!lol
The choice of Resturants in Playa Blanca is fantastic - we loved Jumbo's chinese (loving the shot glasses) and New Orleans - only meal we didnt enjoy was in the Taurus Steak place (with the cow print sign) this was very disapointing and tastless but apart from that we couldnt fault the choice.
We cant wait to return as soon as possible and will definatly recommend this hotel and the resort of Playa Blanca.

" Sun Royal Apartments "

Great flight all went smoothly and arrived a bit early. Coach transfer perfect. Apartment was spotless and very roomy. We were in 151. Staff very pleasent and helpful. Restaurant value for money as you got 3 courses for 30 Euros and down in the mail part of Playa Blanca you paid the same for one course. Best restaurant we found was Sideria Arena. Only small complaint was the distance from the apartments to Playa Blanca itself which was a bit of a trek but the taxi fare was only 2.50euros if you felt really knackered.
Absolutly brilliant holiday and we are deffo going back next year,(maybe even this year.

Advice: Go for it.!

Activities: Grand tour of the island especially Timafaya. Can recommend Jumbo

" Sun Royal. Playa Blanca "

We visited sun royal in playa blanca on the 1st feb until 11th feb. On arrival we greeted by friendly reception staff and very pleased with our apartment, very clean as was the whole complex and surrounding resort was imaculatly clean. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly go back again. We found our way around easily, finding nice resturants, we would recomend china city and Jumbos a chinese resturant which were great food and very friendly waiters. The beach was lovely and also very clean with two bars on the beach. The hotel had two pools one was very cold and the other heated they were also spotless. The hotel has a small shop but they dont have everything which may be required. But within a 3 minute walk there is Nettos or the hotel next door has a small shop which can be used. The marina rubicon was only a 10 minute easy walk where the beach is and many many resturants to chose from, also there was markets on wednesday and saturday which were great.Overall we loved the place and would deinatly recomend it to anyone.

Advice: It was great !

Activities: it is all just great!

" New year at the Royal "

We booked for a bed & breakfast holiday but upgraded to half board after sampling our first meal in the town and breakfast at the hotel. The hotel gave fantastic choice,& the food was displayed to create appetite. We were always in early, so meals were fresh and hot. We had a few problems because the list the waiter had, recording the status of holiday makers at the hotel, was not updated to our current siuation, but was cleared up when reported. The reception staff were extremely helpful and helped with any problem brought to their attention. We were given a room as asked, on the ground floor with a view of the pool, only problem for us, as older people, we were also situated next door to the children's club, but on bringing this to the attention of the staff, we were given another room. Our only complaint was neither of the rooms got the sun at anytime and so never warmed up.
Weather wise the wind was chilly, and we needed to find sheltered areas, it rained most nights, but when the sun shone it was warm and beautiful, we managed to find ourselves places to relax and get a good suntan. Make sure to take something warm for the evenings.
Playa Blanca has a lovely promenade which runs along the seafront in both directions, we walked each day, being able to sit when there was a seat free. A visit to the Rubicon Marina is a pleasant walk, especially when the craft market is on, also carry on through and continue walking to Colorados a new area being developed.
In the evening we went to an English Pub called "The Nags Head" run by Ian & Elaine a lovely couple who made us and all customers very welcome, it was like the old fashioned local, where everyone chatted together, they helped make our holiday a very pleasant time.

" not what we expected "

This complex is OK,But our apartment (905) was clean but due to the vent in the bathroom there was a unbearable smell of grease (day & night due to the cooking of the local people that live there). All the entertainment was in Spanish, but the English was not catered for in aspect of the holiday.
We were told by the tour operator that the distance from the complex to the town was a short walking distance when in actual fact it was 2 miles by taxi, Which also it cost us £180.00 overall in fares during our stay.(again another misrepresentation on their behalf.
The day trips where very expensive for e.g. 50 euros each for the coach to visit the teguise market.
we would not recommend the sun royal apartments or lanzarote itself.

Advice: Dont bother 'try another destination'

Activities: The return flight home.

" Great hotel for winter sun! "

Just got back from Playa Blanca a couple of days ago. This was a very nice apartment to stay at whilst on holiday with my girlfriend. Its a bit more quiet than what it would be in the summer time but still the Sun Royal is a nice place to stay! the rooms have all the things you need and the facilities on the hotel grounds are good also. I reccomend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in the winter sun. My Rating: 7 out of 10

Advice: Nice town for couples or young families to relax in.

Activities: New Orleans Resturaunt, The Jungle Bar & Bar Atlantis

" Nice resort - shame about the room "

Just back from a first time visit to Lanzarote - a nice wee island. Sun Royal was smartly-kept and very clean if basic. Our only complaint was that in a half empty complex our room was north facing and therefore got no sun at all - a shame as we like to sit on a balcony and watch the sun go down with a large G&T in hand. Friendly staff helped our problem with the safe, lights and calling us a taxi when our aurport transfer failed to turn up. As we were self-catering we didn't use the restaurant or cafe. The resort is nice - the old part has an original feel to it - and the marina is very new and very hip. Restaurants are a bit more expensive, but worth it. We ate at the Casa Roja (good if a little dear) el Mano (good food but the surliest waiters outside of Paris) il Commendatore (the best with fabulous veal and steaks on the stone) Lani's which became a firm favourite mainly because of the waiters and the H U G E measures of whisky and Tia Maria! Food was good too, certainly a varied menu and very popular with kids. We also ate in the old part at Brisa Marine and the mussels and king prawns were fabulous. The long promenade makes for a great walk. Papagayo beach was brilliant, as was the longer walk (two and a bit hours there and back) to the lighthouse at the other end. We walked every day and took one of the all-island tours (55 euros each but not bad for an all day excursion) Would we go back? Not in November. Temperatures during the day were great - 24degrees and with a cooling breeze, but it got cold at night so a fleece was necessary. We would be tempted back a little earlier in the year and Playa Blanca would be ideal.

" Had a fantastic holiday. Would... "

Had a fantastic holiday. Would recommend the Sun Royal Apartments, basic but very clean, maid came in every other day and sheets changed 3 times in 10 days and towels changed every time she came to clean. Pool area and reception kept very clean and no problem getting sun beds even though it was peak season, everyone very friendly. There were a lot more Spanish than English staying there but every effort was made to include English guests. The reps for the childrens club made every effort to speak English and include all children. My children aged 9 and 15 had a great time and have asked to go back next year which in fact we most certainly will. It is a short walk to the beach and restaurants at Playa Blanca offering a wide range of food, would recommend the Tex Mex and Jumbo the chinese. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot offer any comment although other English guests recommended it. The trips were a bit on the pricey side so take extra money if you want to do these, would definately recommend the Grand Tour as you get good value for money and includes a camel ride which is a must if you have kids, would also recommend the submarine dive.

" Returned today from the Sun Royal... "

Returned today from the Sun Royal (wife, 2 kids and I) and what can I say - fantastic holiday. The Apartments are fine, clean and with every amenity required. Maria, our cleaner was excellent and towels regularly changed. There were plenty of English families there but having said that the Spanish were very friendly. The Kids club is Spanish run but did everything to include the English kids - no complaints at all. The supermarket onsite is well stocked.

Playa Blanca itself is great for a relaxing holiday - good clean beach, lovely new Marina and established 'old' town.

We will be returning to the Sun Royal and Playa Blanca.

" Have just got back from playa blanca... "

Have just got back from playa blanca where me my 8 year old daughter my sister and her 7 year old daughter spent 11 nights. I have to say the hotel was very clean as was playa blanca. Had really hot weather our whole stay[don't be fooled by the very strong winds you still need to slap on the sun cream]. Our sheets were changed maybe once while we were there and the towels every couple of days. Wasn't much to do in the hotel unless you were spanish. All the fun activities were on a noticeboard only in spanish, so the children couldn't mix in if they wanted to. Couldn't fault our tour guide Carly as she was always there if you was needed. We went to the restaurant on our second night there and was very dissappointed. The food was awful. Apparently we were told by another english family the rest of the time the food was fine. We spent most of our time at the main part of playa blanca , where we had our evening meals. Couldn't fault the food. as every restaurant we ate in was great. You've got to try Jumbo's chinese, an Italian restaurant called Contins and a Tex Mex place a little further up. If you are looking for a lot of night life then this isn't the place for you.[you'd probably be better off in somewhere like playa de carmen]. This is a nice family holiday, but teenagers would find it boring. It was ok for my daughters age as she is happy with the beach and the 2 swimming pools at our hotel. Went to 2 excursions whole we were there. One to Rancho Texas Park which the kids loved, and also to Costa Teguise market, which we needed more time at. as it doesn't give you long to cover the whole market. The only downside about self-catering was the colossal prices at the local supermarkets. The local Netto's[about 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel] was charging 2-3 euros for a loaf of bread [and that's an ok loaf]. We all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, found it very relaxing, and it was lovely overlooking the sea as we were eating our evening meal. The kids didn't want to come home and my daughter wanted to bring the swimming pool home with her! Would recommend it, and would definately go back again.

" This hotel was for spanish guests... "

This hotel was for spanish guests using the company Travelplan. Thomson only gets 12% of the rooms.

BE AWARE THAT MEANS ONLY A COUPLE OF ENGLISH FAMILES

Everything is done for the spanish hoilday makers including kids club run by travelplan.

We booked the kids club as part of the hoilday we didn't pay for a spanish run one where the kids don't have an idea what the reps or kids say.

We had room 603 which was shabby and dirty including,

Sofa bed coming apart.

Gouge out of a unit

Bathroom door would not lock infact if you shut it you couldn't open it.

4 tiles were missing of wall

Waste water came through a waste pipe on floor twice and needed an engineer out.

Walls stained.

Shower was as good as useless

coffee table heat stained all over.

Front door would not shut unless locked.

Most of the sunbeds were broken only towards second week did they bring some more and added some shades only three when we arrived.

The spanish guests took over the place and their kids were very rough with the english children infact several familes had to make the problem know but as they were spanish and staff spanish this ment a big laugh and nothing done.

We have being made aware that 7 reps have gone through this hotel and the major complaints all the english guests have is ,

No English kids club.

No evening entertainment in english.

This was a real let down by THOMSON they knew what we were going to get but didn't tell us.

We only had fun outside of the hotel as we used another one not conected to the SUN GROUP WHO OWN BOTH SUN ROYAL AND SUN PARK(SISTER HOTEL)NEXT DOOR.

We had lovely weather and some good meals out but this was all runied by the SUN ROYAL HOTEL..

PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING THIS HOTEL.

I went by what other hoilday makers had written I don't know what hotel they were at but this is how it is. Many familes we meet including a THOMSON TRAVEL AGENT WERE DISGUSTED BY THE HOTEL AND WILL BE TAKING FURTHER ACTION ON THEIR RETURN.

If I had one word to say it would be DONT.

" Have just come back from 11 nights in... "

Have just come back from 11 nights in Sun Royal Apartments. Went with my daughter who is 7, my niece 8 and my sister. The apartments are very clean as too is the hotel. Cleaned and changed towels every 2 days. Beds changed once. Walk to beach, town centre and the Marina all pleasant 10-15 mins walk. Everywhere is absolutely spotlessly clean and children made a fuss of wherever we went. Went to Rancho Texas Park in the day and kids loved it, would recommend, worth the money. Also went to Teguise Market, the only downside was not long enough on the excursion, all a bit rushed, didn't have time to take in the town of Teguise only enough to shop at market. Very relaxing holiday. All the restaurants we ate in along main strip of Playa Blanca sea front had lovely meals and not too expensive. Kids loved making a fuss of the parrots. Went to Jumbos chinese twice, had lovely Italian, Spanish, Tex Mex - every taste bud is catered for, they even have a Burger King. The market in the Marina is on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and well worth the visit. Supermarkets all rather expensive, approx 3 Euros for a decent loaf of bread. The only downside we would say is the Hotel caters mainly for the Spanish Tour operator. All entertainment was run by them including the kids club. There were 2 pools and the warm one was taken over by them also so English tend to sit round the cold pool. No fault with our Thomson rep Karli, she was lovely and really helpful but Thomson need to put entertainment on for the kids and the bar in the evenings as everything was in Spanish so our kids could not join in. We had to go into town in the evenings and went to Paddy Mac's Irish pub one night and they had an Elvis impersonator on and even the kids had a great night.
Overall would recommend the hotel and Playa Blanca for anyone who does not want raving night life - it suited us as the children are young and plenty to do in town but would suggest if you were looking to stay at the hotel for all of your entertainment and meals you may be disappointed. We ate in the restaurant at the hotel 1 evening and was not treated very nicely as we were not full/half board although we were happy to pay 12 Euros per head for the buffet - which was awful (maybe just chose the wrong night as met a family who were half board and they said that was the only night they didn't enjoy it as everything else was fine.) Needless to say we did not go back.
Feel Thomson need to consider doing more for their customers.
However, we had a thoroughly good time and would definately go back again - kids did not want to come home.
