My husband and I have just returned from a winter break in the Sun Royal Apartments in Playa Blanca. We had a wonderfully relaxing week.
The apartments were well located, only a short walk to the main street and beach. They were cleaned every day and towels and bedding changed regularly. As it was November they were not full but it gave a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere. The weather was perfect and we found some lovely bars and eating places.
Our favourite was Cervantes not far from the church (on the opposite side of the road). There was plenty of choice, the standard of food was good and service excellent. At the end of the meal complimentary liqueurs were offered and you could have whatever you wanted, brandy, Tia Maria, cointreau etc etc.
Another good bar for late in the evening was the beach bar (the one with the yellow umbrellas in front of the Princess Yaiza hotel). In an evening the music was gentle and the atmosphere great. Again generous with the drinks too. We will definitely return.

When we arrived at Sun Royal we were given a key and a map, which was a little confusing.
Anyway we found our room only for it to be dark and facing nothing, so went to reception and asked politely if we could be moved, which the receptionist very kindly did, (we were not the only ones wanting to be moved). Got to new room nice view over 2nd pool, but room very dated.
Unfortunately we had very strong winds for three days which blew in a lot of sand through the course of the day and night, which the room maids did not clean up, the only thing they seemed to do was make the bed and change the towels, so I had to clean it myself!! Not what I went on holiday to do.
We had no English free TV, when we asked the receptionist she said not today not working, in fact it wasn't working any day. We did have a good holiday but spent it out all day, found a fantastic restaurant on the front at playa Blanca called Don Camillo, food fantastic, you are made to feel very welcome.

I have just been booking this year's holiday and this reminded me how useful these reviews are when you are looking at Hotels - so here goes.
We arrived late at night and initial impressions were very good. The rooms were clean with very good catering facilities.
The Sun Royal is slightly out of the main resort and as such you do need to be prepared to do a fair bit of walking. With two little children this was a good chance to get them off to sleep before the meals.
The guests at this hotel were 80-90% British and there weren't huge problems with getting sun loungers etc.
We went at the end of October (half term) and the weather was very good - we just had a couple of days of cloud in two weeks.
We also have teenage children and there were several other children around for them to befriend.
The pools (there are two) look great at night and the whole complex is kept very clean. There are toddler’s pools for the little ones. The water is a little cold but once you are in and swimming it's OK. There is a very small kiddie’s playground around the back of the complex.
We didn't eat at the restaurant too much as we preferred to go down to the centre of Playa Blanca where there is a good choice of restaurants - I agree the Jasmine Chinese is good and we ate there several times.
There is simple entertainment in the bar most nights including mini discos and karaoke.
Having looked around Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is certainly my preferred choice of resort. It is starting to get more built up now though so this may not be for long.
The beach is good, clean and there is a little bar overlooking the beach where you can get snacks and drinks if you want a break from the sunbed.
We went on several trips - all of which I would recommend -especially Friday night at the Texas Ranch. We also went on the Yellow Submarine (unfortunately our 3 year old was sick so may be best to take a bag if you have small children). Also went on the volcano trip with the camel rides which is well worth the money.
On one of the cloudy days we took the ferry over to Furteventura (and I was glad that we went to Lanzarote!). Although that is probably a little unfair as we were only there for a couple of hours.
We didn't bother hiring a car as we found that we had enough to do without. For the price that we paid for the holiday this was well worth the money

We had a wonderful holiday at the Sun Royal, the apartments were spotless clean and a good size for myself, husband and 11 year old daughter. The towels were changed at least 5 times in the week, sheets once and the apartment was cleaned every day. We had an apartment on the second level and the patio with furniture overlooked the pool. a lovely setting for a glass of wine on a warm evening!
It was a short walk to a beautiful beach with plenty of sun beds and parasols. The sand was white and the sea clear. Children will love the way the little fish swim up to you when you paddle.
The supermarket at Sun Royal was ok. But not that well stocked and a bit expensive, but there is a big Netto about a ten minute walk away which was brilliant. Stocked lots of known brands and lovely fresh fruit and bread.
About a 15 minute stroll away, along a lovely promenade there are so many restaurants that you are spoilt for choice. We ate out every night and never had a bad meal, my very fussy daughter ate everything put in front of her! There are also lots of lovely shops selling perfume, jewelry and designer clothes, as well as the usual souvenirs. Which I have to say were very tasteful and reasonably priced.
All in all as you can gather we had a great time, we went on the trip to the volcano and the camel ride. Although this was quite expensive it was a great experience. The camel ride was hilarious, but take a jacket because it was boiling when we left the resort, but chilly up the mountain.
We will be going back next year, and my 2 sisters and their families will be coming with us, I have never been to the same place abroad twice, But this was exceptional. And we just can't wait!

Great value for money, the apartments are the usual size with a bed settee in the living room for the kids.
The apartment had coffee machine, juicer, kettle, toaster and microwave, it was very clean. The complex was pretty quiet overall, about 15 mins walk to the beach which was clean and good for the kids. One heated pool one not heated with a couple of paddling pools for toddlers.
The resort has lots of restaurants and bars all reasonably priced. I would definitely go back again.

Just came back from holiday on Wednesday 12th April. Went with 11 of my family and we had a fantastic time. Weather was absolutely gorgeous, apartments were small but sufficient.
Staff in resort friendly. Playa Blanca lovely place, quiet but lovely! The restaurants on the front are good and the outlook over the sea is just gorgeous. Jumbo's Chinese Restaurant was the best chinese we've ever tasted!
Would definitely go back and we are all very sad to be back in cold England.

We went on this holiday for something cheap and cheerful. Wasn't quite sure what to expect for the £550.00 for two that we paid but we were pleasantly surprised.
Reception and foyer were well presented, staff were friendly and courteous at all times and nothing was too much trouble to be sorted.
Apartment was a little on the small side but well furnished and clean. Maids came in every day and changed towels, replaced loo roll, cleaned and made beds etc. Think we got a bed change once throughout the week.
The pool area was fantastic, very clean and tidy, no shortage of sunbeds or parasols but the water was VERY COLD but a godsend to the 98 degrees we were experiencing.
The meals in the hotel were reasonably edible they cost E6.95 for a buffet breakfast and £11.95 for a buffet evening meal. The meal prices were cheaper in the next door Sun Park but their facilities are not as good a standard as the Sun Royal.
Car hire in Lanzarote is cheap but make sure you look into all the pro's and cons because the cheap insurance usually comes with between E500 - E700 excess fees. We booked with our Thomson rep and paid that bit more but no excess charges and could write the car off if that unfortunate event happened with no extra cost. BEWARE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AND LESS ISNT ALWAYS BEST OR NOT IN THIS CASE.
Eating out we found the best place by far was the Jasmine Chinese in the town food absolutely out of this world and service was second to none. We were paying around E30 for two people for a 4 course meal including drinks and there was plenty of food to leave you struggling towards the end for room.
Nightlife is very low key in Playa Blanca but the beach front bars and nice and peaceful and you can sit with a drink watching the world go by.
Day trips we would recommend are Rancho Texas Park that was an excellent day out even without kids. It had crocodile shows, bird of prey displays, lasso shows etc well worth a visit.
We would highly recommend Playa Blanca and especially the Sun Royal for someone looking for a quiet relaxing holiday.
It is not the place for someone wanting lively or plenty of nightlife and not for older children which are hard to occupy.

Lovely clean apartments, we were lucky to get one right next to the pool. Not too far to walk to a fairly decent supermarket (the one on complex is expensive and not as well stocked - we have two young children and needed fresh milk, but they had run out!). The staff are all friendly and reception were very helpful when my husband was taken ill and required a doctor.
We have visited other resorts on the island before, but this is definitely the best, we ate regularly at the Tipico Canairio (this was our 5yrs old favourite eating place) - they do great tapas and we had a very nice meal also at the Jasmine Chinese (opposite the pirate ship).
We were let down by the weather in that we only had a total of three days sun. The rain and drizzle were a little harder to cope with, we had taken limited toys for the children due to luggage space, so entertaining small children wasn't easy. There are no kids clubs to help you out on bad weather days.

Sun Royal Apartments are clean middle range accommodation. 5 minutes from the beach and 10 minutes from the centre of Playa Blanca. Reception staff were nice and helpful. Our Holiday rep Danny was excellent, very helpful and friendly.
For eating we liked Tipico Canairio and Jumbo Chinese Restaurant, next door to one another. Food, service, waiters were excellent and good value for money. Also liked Charmers Bar, staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were excellent and good entertainment.

Myself and my wife thought we would have a week away in the sun whilst we had the bad weather here in England.
Unfortunately the weather is so unpredictable and we had five days of rain at our resort. We found there was a total lack of things to do apart from either go for a walk in the rain or pay 3euro's to put on TV-sky sports1,sky movies1,bbc prime or cartoon network. So I sickened my wife and put on the football.
I believe the company should have put some sort of entertainment on for all the sickened off holiday makers just to add a small bit of festive cheer. They should also provide some sort of no longer required book system-where once you have read a book you can swap it for a replacement and read it in the non comfortably cold rooms.
I asked our rep-Danny if it was possible to get two spare blankets as we were freezing the 1st night. His reply was that everyone was cold that night. Luckily the receptionist sorted us out.
Just a little more thought wouldn't go amiss when the weather is poor.
Anyway we had one day of sunshine which we loved. We will be using the company again after that anyway-cheers, Kev & Alicia.

Just flew back yesterday (08/12/05) feeling really depressed as we did not want to leave!!!
We enjoyed our wee week so much that we will be booking to go back again next year, this time for 2 weeks!!! The apartments were lovely and comfortable and very spacious. The staff were also very helpful and kind. Danny our rep was very informative and very funny! (Hope you hand gets better soon)!
The short walk to the front where the restaurants were, was enjoyable and the choice of places to eat was enormous! Jumbo's was my favourite!! We found a Scottish bar called Fiddler's and had many a great night in there with live music and great company. Say hi to Carol, Dougie, Alex and Kevin for us if you go. They are great people!! We will return!!!!

We have visited the Sun Royal 3 times in 12 months. This possibly speaks volumes.
For clean, albeit basic accommodation, it is excellent. We have just returned from 1 weeks holiday, sadly the weather was very very cloudy with a little rain.
The Sun Royal is perfect for pool lovers and those who just use the aparthotel facilities for a base to explore Playa Blanca.
The 2 swimming pools on site are (not) heated contrary to other comments made. However these are both clean as is the entire complex. Entertainment is very poor but we never stopped in so this was not a problem nor a factor for us.
Playa Blanca itself, well, we fell in love with this place and just love the laid back lifestyle and the friendly atmosphere. Look out for the Grill (Place with a cows skull above the entrance) name of which sadly is eluding me as I type. Absolutely fantastic food. Steaks of which are amazing.
Allow 15 minutes for the stroll into the resort. A taxi is handy for those less mobile and only costs about 3 Euro.
If you have kids and also fancy a more traditional end to the night I highly recommend Legend's Karaoke Bar. Staff are excellent, prices are good and we had many a good time there.
We like Playa Blanca so much we are actually considering moving there. Enough said.
