Feb 2008, Mrs S Bains

Myself,Husband and our daughter have just returned this morning from this fabulous place. We had a fantastic time here and wished we could have stayed for another week.Every thing about it was brilliant, the cleanliness the location, the people the shops, resturants, views etc.We have never visited Lanzarote before but will be going back next year for a lovely winters break.Loads to see and do nice walks along the beach front to the marina or to the shops, thats where you will find all the resturants too. There are two pools on site one is heated one not,the upsatirs one is nice and warm but can get busy very early in the morning, you can use the sauna, squash courts, laundry, tennis courts or just chill out on a sunbed and soak up the sun.The local shop on site caters for everything you need if your self catering or you can use the snack bar for your burgers and chips etc.....Well worth a visit to this wonderful hotel in the future.

Thought i already put a review on...

Feb 2008, Mr Mt Wall

Thought i already put a review on here but doesnt look like it.
Impressed with sun royal apts. nice and clean, spacious rooms.
2 pools which were a good size n not to deep. bit cold at 1st but u get used to it.
as for the resort, its ok but i wont go again.
I wasnt impressed with the food at all and it was almost impossible to get a breakfast before 11am anywhere. I found the irish bar on the main stretch nr some english pub, not the nags head. they were great brekkies.. upstairs overlooking the bay. shame we found it on the last but one day.
Steak house place with the cow horns is great, expect to wait outside for a table.
Walked over to the marina which was quiete and i think it was still in development.
Didnt like the beach much, loads of sunbeds but i prefer a towel on the sand.
Ended up in the left hand corner most days, little bar above which is great aswell. but come 2pm the tide comes all the way up and you have to move, the beach is then reduced to twice the size itr was with no room with all the sunbeds. thank god for the swimming pool at the hotel, wasnt busy at all and plenty of sunbeds there.
Excursions were awful aswell, i would not recommend the western nights, its for kids, ok for familys but not young couples.
SUbmarine ride lasted for about 20mins, took an hr to get there. Volanco tour was just as bad, but its worth going on just to say you've been to a volcano.
Overall it was dissapointing, if u got to lanzarote id goto a Northern town not a man made resort like this.
Good note though, great rock pub there, spent most nights in the place...very small though, its uo by burger king (u cant miss it) ... up the steps on the right

My first holiday without the parents,...
7 / 10
Jan 2008, Miss L Paolosi

My first holiday without the parents, I took my younger sister and having been to Fuerteventura only 4 months before, I felt I would be safe here.
The Apts. themselves were fantastic, TV was great with sky movies and all the sports, the bathroom was spotless, the kitchen facilities were perfect if you wanted to cook. Which we ended up doing... and there are spare blankets and pillows. lots of wardrobe space.
The complex was mostly Spanish tourists from the mainland, with entertainment in Spanish but they spoke some English and tried their best to include us. They were very friendly and more helpful than the Thompson rep (which I can't remember seeing once! not even on the coach!)
The 1st floor pool was nosier, great if you like your music and good for kids, but if you like tranquillity the downstairs pool was silent, and very spacious.
The mini market was great and had everything you could want and was very cheap, but if you wanted more Netto’s wasn't too far away!
We didn't eat in the buffet, as the waiters were quite annoying (he wouldn't stop harassing my sister even though I’d already told her she was 14.) and the bar men were very friendly especially Danni, but girls- you will be harassed.
As for location- It's just way too far out. I would suggest a taxi as it gets very cold at night, and the walk to what they call the centre, which isn't very much at all, is a very very long one.
I must suggest the New Orleans by the beach, the food is reasonable with great ice cream, the waiters were lovely too.
As for Playa Blanca, I wouldn't go again. Lanzarote, I might consider Going to Puerto Del Carmen as there is more there.

Just returned from the Sun Royal and...

Dec 2007, Mr J Doherty

Just returned from the Sun Royal and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartments are excellent. We stayed in a one bed apt which was very spacious and clean and was the best equipped I have ever stayed in. There are 2 large pools, one which is quiet and one a bit livelier with music and entertainment for the kids (even in December).
Plenty of sunbeds but might be a bit busier in summer.
Playa Blanca is a small town but very nice and clean. It's about a ten minute stroll to the beach and town centre where there are plenty bars, shops and restaurants. We found the Romantica restaurant in the pedestrian area excellent for steaks which melt in your mouth and the Tandoori Indian just below also very good.
The prom runs from the main ferry port right along to the other marina and is a nice walk in the evening.
Would go back anytime.

Sep 2007, Mrs J Jones

We stayed in these apartments for 2 weeks in August and they were ideal. The rooms were spacious and very clean. The cleaners were in nearly every day to clean and change the bedding and the towels. There are 3 English channels on the TV, BBC world news, Sky Movies Family and Sky 3.
Pool areas were always very clean and we never had any trouble getting a sun bed at any time of the day. All the staff that we saw during our 2 week stay were very friendly and polite. There is night time entertainment on but we didn't really see much of it except for the Parrot show which I have to say is well worth going to watch!
The apartments are located about 10 minutes walk away from the resort centre and 10 minutes away from the marina. Both are pleasant walks and on the flat. The market in the marina is worth going to as there are some really nice things there.
All in all these are lovely apartments and I would recommend them to anyone!

We stayed here 15th July for 1 week and found the apartments to be very clean and well equipped the pool was also cleaned on a daily basis and so was the area around the pool, staff were friendly and helpful as was the Thomson Rep.
We only tried the food once and that was on our first morning we went for breakfast which there was plenty of choice but everything was cold.
Next morning we found a wonderful place for our full English, as you come out of the hotel turn right until you reach NETTO then turn right again and enjoy the stroll downhill until you come across an Irish Bar and hidden between this bar and a tourist shop, there is an alley way leading to a bar up a couple of steps.
The Nags Head, you are greeted by a wonderful couple, Ian & Elaine and they just can’t do enough for you.
Food is brilliant drink excellent and company if possible even better. You must go best breakie in playa Blanca opens at 10am!

My partner and I booked a late minute...

Jul 2007, Miss JC Badcock

My partner and I booked a late minute 1 week holiday to the Sun Royal Apartments, which we have just returned from.
We booked half board as the difference between self catering and H/B was minimal. Our reaction when we went for dinner on our first night was that the buffet food was limited, especially the hot selection. However there was plenty of salad to choose from but not much to accompany it.
Be aware that drinks at dinner on H/B are not included and you will be charged extra!! The breakfast buffet was good a choice of cooked, continental and fruit and yogurt so plenty to choose from.
The apartment was a good size and well equipped we were impressed. The only down side was our apartment was situated above the bar/cafe which did get noisy in the evenings with music and kids running around. Considering it was classed as low season there were plenty of empty apartments where we could have been placed.
Be prepared to hire EVERYTHING including sun lounger mattresses! Reception staff were okay but very slow and on occasion would ignore you completely!
The resort of Playa Blanca is lovely; the promenade that runs the whole way along the sea front is great for strolling along during the day & night. There are plenty of restaurants to choose with a sprinkling of bars. This resort was just right, enough to do without being noisy or in your face. If it’s clubbing your after this is NOT the resort for you.
We would definitely consider returning to Playa Blanca also to the Sun Royal Apartments but on either B&B or Self Catering basis and would request an apartment away from the bar area.
We would recommend both the resort and apartments to couples / families looking for a relaxing holiday.

Recently returned after 2 weeks...

Apr 2007, Mrs D Crome

Recently returned after 2 weeks during school Easter holidays at Sun Royal. Can honestly say that we had a fantastic time and thoroughly recommend it.
Apartment was spotless and well kitted out. Each room has a bath and a shower over which was great for an end of day soak for children and parents alike.
Towels and sheets changed lots of times - if you want more they are more than happy to oblige. We dealt with the reception not the Thomson rep for things.
Apartments were really quiet and there were the token few sun bed reservers but no probs with getting a bed if you fancied a day by the pool.
Thoroughly recommend hiring a car for your duration. Petrol 50p a litre. We used "moneysupermarket.com" to hire ours through autoreiser for £160 for 2 weeks.
Great value as the Thomson trips were extortionate! The volcanic national park is €8 per adult - children free but Thomson want about €50 per adult and about half that for children 2 and up - only extra is that a tour guide goes on a bus with you!
Other trips out are so cheap if you have a car and you can go if it gets a bit cloudy.
Playa Blanca great quiet resort - apartments were quiet - no disco music through the night. Small kid’s mini club and token entertainment almost every night.
Restaurant in Playa Blanca opp. Pirate ship is Tipico Espanol. Much cheaper than those on the front - fantastic paella (takes about 30 mins to cook).
Caves in the north of the island are stunning, as is the Cesar Manrique foundation in Tahiche. Texas Rancho Park is great for kids albeit very "designed".
Go and have a great time.

Overall good clean apartments in an extremely quiet area. No noise at night a real holiday plus!
Lack of sun beds and the fact that people reserved beds at 5 am made the "sun bed” situation at times stressful, as the first thought on waking was sun beds!
On site supermarket very reasonable with warm bread available every morning.
The beach is a short walk away and very pleasant.
Lots of restaurants to choose from although the ones by Rubicon marina were pricey.

Just got back from the Sun Royal....

Jan 2007, Mrs R Marshall

Just got back from the Sun Royal. What can I say - Brilliant!
We were a party of 7, with kids ranging from 7yrs up to 18yrs, each and every one of them had a lovely time and couldn't fault it.
Apartments were clean comfortable and had all the basic requirements.

We stayed on a half board basis and the food was surprisingly good, everything was well presented and the restaurant was spotless.
Entertainment was basic but we weren’t expecting it to be any different however it was still very enjoyable (My 7 yr old loved the karaoke) and Mick the compare was really funny!
There was a mini kids club run by Suzanne which kids seemed to enjoy (although getting my daughter to get out of the pool to go, no way she loved the pool too much) However she did go to the mini disco most evenings!
Went out exploring most days but the elder kids refused to come, as they did not want to leave the complex (they must have enjoyed it).
Staff were fantastic, helpful and brilliant with the kids nothing was too much trouble and the highlight of their holiday was meeting Chefai, one of the waiting staff, he was brilliant and funny as were all the restaurant staff.
A pleasant walk into Playa Blanca every morning (about 15 mins) which was good for walking off breakfast with a good choice of shops bars and restaurants. Lovely Marina.
Will definitely come back here as soon as possible.

My wife and I have just returned home...
8 / 10
Dec 2006, Mr P Levens

My wife and I have just returned home having had a week self-catering at the Sun Royal Aparthotel in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote.
The weather was changeable. Sunny most of the time but strong winds gave a wind chill factor making it cool on a few of the days.
The apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were impressed with the two ring hot plate, microwave, electric toaster and juicer. None of these are usually included when we self cater in Greece (apart from the hot plate).
There was also a safety deposit box safe in the wardrobe which cost a couple of euro a day. Small price to pay for peace of mind.
On cool nights we used the hot plate for heating the room since there is no other form of heating in the room.
The resort itself was clean and tidy, about a 15 minute walk away to the beach and the shops and bars. It's a small new resort which is a bit isolated from the rest of the island unless you rent a car. Be warned, the car hire companies advertise small cars from 15 euro per day but when they add the 'extras' on it's actually 39 euros for one day.
The next nearest resort, Playa Del Carman, about 8 miles away, is a much bigger busier resort.
Playa Blanca is great for a nice quiet week, particularly if the weather stays fine, and the restaurants are good too. We enjoyed the Jasmine Chinese restaurant and the Tipico Espanol next door.
The restaurant at the Sun Royal also does a nice self service buffet meal for 12 euro but they do start clearing things away coming up to 9.30pm. The bar upstairs makes an attempt at putting on entertainment most nights but it is a bit limited.
The complex shop is OK for basic provisions with a Netto only 10 minute walk away.
I imagine in summer that this place is great for basking out in the sun and enjoying the two large swimming pools and sun loungers.
In December (when we went) it can be a bit more challenging finding something to do on the days when the wind blows.
The market on Wednesday and Saturday, by the way, will keep you occupied for about 15 minutes. It's that small.
All in all it's not a bad place to go and it's certainly warmer than England in December with more hours of daylight too.
