" Playa Flamingo "

We booked our bungalow on Playa Flamingo complex privately and it was everything we wanted. The downfall was the sunbed situation... British Fathers using their children to block entrances to the pool areas whil positioning their wives at the other entrance...then the charge on opening the entrances..the bull run at Pamplona comes to mind!! Anyone who stayed at the complex in mid August 2009 can identify with this!Everything else about Playa Flamingo was great, especially the location...still doing the lottery...

" very enjoyable "

Just got back from a two week holiday at the complex which was very good, we were self catering and found the resort had a good range of restaurants to cater for every need and at reasonible prices. you can still get value for money if you shop around. we found a very nice restaurant which overlooked the harbour where the staff were very friendly. the apartments are very spacious and have everything in you would need from toasters to coffee makers and microwaves if you wanted to use them. the reps on the complex were really good and nothing was a bother to them. we would have given this holiday a 10 but due to the sunbed nightmare every morning you had to get up around 7.30 to stand any chance of getting a bed so was glad for the lie-in when got home. hope the hotel do somthing about the bed situation as 250 for 800 guests is no where near enough.

" Fantastic "

Just returned from a week at Playa Flamingo on a half-board basis.Transfer from the airport takes about 30 mins with only drop offs at two other hotels on the way.We arrived at 8.15 at night and was really promptly checked in and given our key to apartment B73.After travelling for so long we was really pleased to be told that the restaurant was open to 9pm,so we quickly dumped our cases in our room and got to the restaurant. The choice of food was good, with one fish dish, freshly cooked pasta, plenty of salad and a meat dish which happened to be beef. There was ample veg as well and also a choice for the kids of pizza, chips and other things. After eating we went back to our room and crashed.Breakfast is served from 8-10.30 but before that the battle for a sunbed begins with people waiting from 7.30am!!!!! I just rolled down there when it opened at 8.30 and got two beds quite easily.Granted i don't think there was enough beds for the size of the place but i wasn't getting up early and i got a couple of beds every day.Breakfast was the normal,Cooked,Cereal,Pastries,Cold meats,Fruit juice and hot drinks and there was plenty of it.The daily entertainment was really good with "Boogie Baz" and his team keeping the kids and adults occupied, there is also kids clubs as well with each child getting a two hour session every day. My lad also took part in the Reebok football coaching and my daughter did the Razzmatazz dance/acting sessions which were both well run. There are a few shops down the road towards the beach at Playa Flamingo which sold eveything that you needed but actually in Playa Blanca which was a 20min stroll there was loads of shops and restaurants/bars.The beach at Playa Flamingo was lovely with a calm very clean sea, perfect for young children to swim in.The evening entertainment was also well organized but the only downside was that it was indoors and so very hot in there. The drinks were priced at 2.80(euros) for a pint,4.50(euros) for a cocktail and 1.70(euros) for a soft drink. All in all it was a fantastic holiday and i would strongly recommend it to families with children.

" disappointing "

we have just arrived back from two weeks at the resort and was disappointed with the standard of the accommodation. Having booked four star accommodation I was expecting the apartment to be a little more luxurious than it was. The apartment was very clean and comfortable but tired and in need of updating. The complex was well maintained and the staff were more than helpful. The biggest draw back was the pool areas. There are two pools, one main one and one quieter one but you needed to queue at 7.45 in the morning in order to get a sunbed and when the gates opened it was a fight to get the sunbeds with everybody charging to get one. There were nowhere near enough beds for the amount of people using the complex and people were reserving them and only using them first thing and last thing and going to the beach during the day leaving their towels on the sunbeds which prevented anyone else using them. There definitely needs to be two extra pools and a better management of the sunbed situation. My idea of a holiday is not to have to get up at the crack of dawn in order to be able to sit by the pool. Very disappointed and a complex I would avoid in the future.

Advice: A lovely resort

Activities: Most restaurants were excellent.

" Nice resort, decent complex "

We have recently returned from Playa Flamingo where we stayed for a week self catering with breakfast package. On arrival we were allocated a room which overlooked the local chinese restaurant where the smell of fried food wafted through the patio doors. So we asked to be moved and very obligingly the receptionist moved us to a great apartment overlooking the pool. The apartments themselves were basic, but clean, comfortable and well equipped and a good size for two adults and one young child.
The pool area could probably do with a bit of a makeover and I think the complex is scheduled to close in May for a refurbishment when it will re-open as a Thomson Family Extra resort. At present it is a Nordotel controlled by Tui so there is a heavy Scandanavian presence in both the staff and the guests, but this was no bad thing as we found the Swedes and Norwegians around the pool to be very courteous and friendly.
The complex is located in a great position close next to the sea with a lovely little beach nearby. There are nice walks along the coastal path from the lighthouse to Papagayo and Playa Blanca itself is a clean, friendly little fishing resort with plenty of restaurants and shops.
Three minor niggles....1. the breakfast was organised chaos. Apparently they were running down staff in readiness for the refurbishment closure, so tables were left uncleared and there was a lot of stress amongst the existing waiters. 2. I like the room to be made up every day, but it was every other day here. 3. The exchange rate made everything hideously expensive. Some examples...3-5 euros for a pint of lager, 2-3 euros for an ice lolly, average evening meal for 2 adults, one child with one drink was anything from 35-50 euro's depending on what you ate. Watch out for the restaurant opposite the beach at ground floor level -the childrens meal is 8 euro's fifty cents for sausage chips and a drink.Go to the steakhouse upstairs and its 3 euros fifty and there's a bouncy castle for the kids.
All in all a very enjoyable holdiay for a week and after a small refurbishment what are pretty decent standards already can only get better.

Advice: Lovely, quiet, safe resort, free from lager louts. Papagayo is the more exclusive end.

Activities: Varedero in Playa Blanca is a nice restaurant. Recommend The Jumbo for Chinese food.

" Fun for Summer "

Went to this complex on 4th December. Hotel is fabulously equipped for children, two play areas, one indoor and one outdoor, three pools and a very short walk to the beach indeed. Entertainment team are great and everyone makes a fuss of the kids which is great to see. Only downside at going to this complex at this time of year is that the English dip out a bit as during the winter time the entertainment seems to be all geared for the Scandinavians to the point where the English are actually deliberately excluded with the lame excuse being that this is due to the different health and safety requirements! Nonetheless we had lots of fun here and my two year old daughter (almost three) joined in with all the disco/nursery rhymes even though they were in a different language and she loved Coco the Clown! I would definitely recommend the Rancho Texas night out...it's really good fun. There are quite a few restaurants and bars down the promenade which is about a 15 minute walk but there wasn't much going on in December! Karaoke bars and discos but there weren't many people to fill them all! Beware if self-catering though....hotel supermarket is ridiculously expensive..£3 for a loaf of bread!! Go to the Hyperdino or Spar just a few minutes walk on the front main street alongside the road. The weather during our stay wasn't brilliant as it was overcast most days, but overall it was quite warm day times and evenings. I will definitely try to come back here....but probably during the Summer months! Have fun everyone!!!!

"  a short break "

the holiday we booked was last minute through thomson. the travel agent was very helpful. we werent sure what to expect but on arrival we were impressed with the apartment. it was right next to reception and everyone was ery helpful. we then discovered that our apartment was in walking distance of the beach, the shops, we had our own pool also. it was very quiet and peaceful and fulfilled the need of a break for myself. i would defintly go again but may possibly go when it is slightly warmer.

" Good points: Very clean and... "

Good points: Very clean and friendly. Staff and reps always polite. Accommodation was good. Family friendly.

Bad points: Very rowdy by the pool (sometimes felt like an 18-30s resort!!) - the music blared all day with the same records being constantly played. It was so loud it was distorted. All the sunbeds had gone by 9am. Not one spare. Instead we would go to the beach opposite but you could still hear the music blaring and Rachel (rep) screaming down the microphone!! A couple next to us at the beach (who weren't staying there) commented about how noisey and rowdy our hotel was!

After 5 days we moved to another complex as the apartment next door was having building work done (which we didn't know about). Our new complex was lovely as we could wonder down at lunchtime and there were lots of sunbeds!! And no distorted music. Bliss.

" Booked these apartments through... "

Booked these apartments through Thomson Holidays and bought our flights seperately for a cheap holiday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We paid 98 pounds for the week and so wasn't expecting anything much and WOW apartment 68A, Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!! Clean, spacious, everything you need for a self catering holiday in the kitchen area. Have stayed in a lot of hotels and apartments but this was great. The staff were very polite and helpful. The views just topped it off. Even the patio furniture was well thought out with thick cushions for the reclining chairs. Will definately recommend to anyone and will be returning next year. Oh and even got a lovely leaving letter from the cleaner wishing us a safe journey home and a free Thomson families beach towel.

" I've just got back from Playa... "

I've just got back from Playa Flamingo with my wife, and two girls (aged 9 & 4) - We've had a brilliant time! If Family oriented tour operator run package holidays are your thing - I honestly don't think you could do much better than this resort (& we've been to a few!) The overall setting, views, standard of facilities, etc is really good value for money in my opinion. Yes - It's not perfect, and if you're used to 4* or above hotel standards, you might be disappointed - but you're not paying for that, so you shouldn't expect it!
What you are paying for is what we've just had - I just put my 4yr old into her own bed, and she asked me why we couldn't stay in Lanzarote forever! Priceless!
With one exception (who I won't name - I made a formal complaint to Thomson, and I won't be alone!) the Thomson staff were excellent - from cabin crew through to the fabulous "Rave-on" Rachel Johnston in resort.
I do have to say that my wife & I did feel conspicuous pool-side thanks to our lack of tattoo's, piercings, essex face-lifts, and kids called "Britney" or "Chardonnay" - But then we're just snobs!! ;o)
Seriously - If you're thinking about booking this resort - and you've got a fair idea about what you should be expecting - then Go 4 it - I doubt very much that you'll regret it!

" We went to the Playa flamingo after... "

We went to the Playa flamingo after lookng on the various advisor sites and it sounded great. The apartments were clean and comfortable and the facilities in the apartment were good. cleaners came every other day and changed the towels and sheets. They also put flowers in the room which were a nice touch!

Now the bad news!! the pool was too small for the size of the complex. It only opened at 9am and the sun loungers were chained off, with hotel security making sure no one snuck in before that time!! It caused a queue and a manic rush when the chains were removed, something like the opening of a jumble sale doors.
As it was a superfamily hotel, the pool area was taken over by reps, organised games and rubbish music all day, every day. We spent £120 on sun loungers at the beach just to get a bit of peace. Dont get me wrong, i am not a misery by any means, but the Thompson the dog song 20 times a day would have most adults running for the valium!!

The entertainment at night was also geared toward young children and there was nothing for teenagers to do, apart from the internet in hotel reception ( the whole point is to drag them away from spending all their time on MSN like they do at home isnt it? :-) )
The beach (if you could call it one) was quite small and the sand had apparantly been washed away in a storm a few years before. So the pictures you see in the brochure must be quite old ones. It was very rocky and the stones were sharp underfoot, so take some flip flops or beach shoes. We were told that the sand is due to be replaced next year?
We went all inclusive which was apparantly new for this season. the food in the restaurant was ok. It was self service and there was quite a good choice. However getting hot food had to be timed right!! I would recommend taking the all inclusive option if you have a family, as it can get quite expensive eating out. We went to the Chinese a bit further down from the complex a couple of times and the food was nice.
We also went on a few Trips, booked through the Rep, Rancho Texas is quite a good half day and the trip on a sub was a good experience.

Overall i would say that the apartments are nice, the staff are excellent, the food is ok and Playa blanca is a nice place. Dont bother to go there if you have teenagers, as there is nothing for them to do, or if you want to relax by the pool ,because you have no chance (unless you have years of experience of jumble sale scuffles)

" Firstly,if you like to be with brits... "

Firstly,if you like to be with brits on your hols then you will love it. on one night i watched a bloke above the Blue moon bar give his wife and kids a drunken verbal assault i would be surprised if they have got over it yet!,as per with these events other people get involved,it was ever so nice to see!!
The appts were just about ok if you like single beds or a sofa bed, thats it,no choice,i did ask for another room but was told i was 'up-graded' already!
On a safety note,is it wise to have a sink 3" from an elecrtic hob,i do not think so.not a good mix really.
Playa Blanca is great, our third visit, but please stay away from this hotel!!

" We have literally just returned from... "

We have literally just returned from the Playa Flamingo Apartments, and could not wait to write our review as we had such a fantastic 2 weeks there.
From the excellent welcome meeting on our first day we were entertained all through the day myself and husband, nicknamed "Tank" by the pool playing water polo, games etc and our 2 daughters Megan (7) and Grace (5) in the fab kidzone. We cannot thank the kidzone reps enough for all there hard work the kids loved it, big up to Crazy Karen, Nic Nac, Loopey Laine, Jazzy Jade and Yummy Yasmin. The evening entertainment was great "Dan the Man" and " Rave on Rachel" have untold amounts of energy and they never fail to impress you with there whit etc.
The Apartments are clean and comfortable and regularly cleaned by friendly staff, we were in 79B right at the far end of the complex on the edge of a public path, but we never felt for one minute unsafe.
The service didn't end at the resort though and the rep Team Leader "Super Sarah" was a fantastic help at the airport when checking in.
I would strongly recommend this holiday to anyone with a young family who is up for a laugh and I would definately book a Thomson Super Family Resort Again it was fantastic.
