" We booked this resort and apartment... "

We booked this resort and apartment because of where it was placed - right next to the beach. The beach had been washed out in a freak storm in November 2005 and had not been replaced. The brochure advertises a lovely sandy beach.

Thomason had rated this a 4T, this should have been rated a 2T. The accommodation was shabby and basic, paint was flaking off the bottom of the bedroom wall, there was a large crack in the plaster running up the wall, the kitchen area was inadequate for a family of 4 persons and it seemed we were placed in the older part of the accommodation unit.

Building works were being carried out on the apartments at the complex by the pool and renovations were being made to The Blue Moon, the entertainment venue (i.e. electric hammer drills, skil saws etc) not relaxing at all. Good point - the staff in the restaurants were friendly, the rest of the holiday was not worth the money paid.

" My partner and myself booked a week... "

My partner and myself booked a week here as I am 6 months pregnant and wanted a quiet week away. The Playa Flamingo in general was very picturesque, no hills, clean accommodation. Maids came every day, but unfortunately we did experience a theft from our room, my partners Oakley sun glasses.

We had such a relaxing holiday up until that point. We found that the maids would come more than once a day, and would actually open 3 apartment doors at once, go to one apartment and leave the other doors wide open. Most staff had keys to the rooms, including maintenance staff, who on more than one occasion came to our room checking everything was ok, which in hind sight was great, but by the end of the holiday I was suspicious after everything that happened.

We were also told that other thefts had occurred in the last few months there! When we reported this to the reception staff they were extremely rude and unwilling to help. Not even our reps were forthcoming in helping us, we had no sense from anyone really. Except one rep who was sympathetic and helpful, spoke to us on a level and gave us the information we needed to take the matter further.

The beach, supermarket, and restaurants being 2 minutes walk away was a major plus.
The beach was beautiful, however, it became extremely crowded with families by lunch times. The pool area was constantly full with children and children’s activities, so we never ventured there.

I would definitely go back to Playa Blanca as a family, but unfortunately would not go back to the Playa Flamingo for obvious reasons. Such a shame that had to happen, very bad end to a perfectly good holiday.

" Excellent holiday, if you are looking... "

Excellent holiday, if you are looking for a relaxing chilled out holiday this is definitely the one. Apartments in good condition, clean, neat and tidy.

Staff excellent, 20 minute work to harbour that had very good restaurants and local shops. Weather excellent, only went for a week and came back more tanned than our 2 week break last year to Bulgaria.

Highly recommend, we don’t have kids put the resort was well prepared for them. Will go back!

" My wife and I went in January with... "

My wife and I went in January with some trepidation. Our circumstances the previous year had been very difficult, due to illness, and we were sufficiently desperate to have a sunny break somewhere to book with a local independent travel agent on an "accommodation allocated on arrival" basis. We were lucky. I'd seen the Playa Flamingo Apartments in the Thompson's brochure, but been put off by the under-occupancy supplement. In the circumstances, this was not charged. Had we had to pay this supplement, then I'd probably have rated the accommodation as an 8, rather than a 9.

The apartment was clean, and well maintained, with the exception of the water overflow from the apartments above into our sink. When this was reported, staff treated this as though it was a very exceptional occurrence. It's obvious from other comments that they are well aware of this fault, and are unable or unwilling to remedy it. I'd only return there if I could be guaranteed an apartment on the highest level.

Staff were otherwise friendly and helpful. An electrical fault was remedied within minutes of being reported. For some reason, the residents above liked to move their balcony furniture around regularly, without lifting it. The resulting scraping noises proved another good reason for occupying a top floor room. The sun beds around the pool were plentiful, though the mats which relieved the discomfort of lying on the plastic straps were not.

The comfortable beds tended to have towels draped across them from dawn, in spite of notices discouraging this practice, so we soon started to avoid the pool and spent our refreshment money at other places than the poolside bar.
There are lots of activities for children here, especially those of infant/junior age, and nightly entertainments for folk of all ages.

The entertainers were talented young people, with the accent being more on music than on comedy - apart from the frenzied efforts of a rather manic entertainments manager, who was a tremendous laugh as an Elvis impersonator. Shades of Hi-de-hi!

Most of our time was spent walking along the sea front around Playa Blanca. We walk a great deal generally, but this time it formed part of necessary exercise toward convalescence. Other folk might make more use of the reasonably priced taxis. There are many reliable eateries locally. We found the Chinese restaurants as good as any - especially the one nearest Playa Flamingo. There are also interesting outings available.

We chose the trips to the North of the island (including the Green Caves and the Cesar Manrique Foundation) and to the Timanfaya National Park, which included a camel ride (just missed out on having to do this in a rainstorm!) Boat trips are available from the harbour of Playa Blanca, e.g. to Papagayo Bay, and the ferry to Fuerteventura. There's a good craft market at the nearby (about forty minutes walk) Rubicon Marina (which didn't exist at all on our last visit to Playa Blanca, three years ago), and a number of evening excursion to excellent entertainments in other resorts. All in all, plenty of activities to keep us engaged for our two week stay.

One tip for the wine drinker. My view is that the wines from Geria vary according to the year. Three years ago, I enjoyed the dry white sufficiently to buy a few bottles to take home. This time they were very thin and sour - so much so that the sweeter muscatel tasted superb in comparison - but very ordinary when we got them home. I thus discovered why they seemed so eager to let us taste the dry wine first!
All in all, a very good holiday.

" Have been staying here for more years... "

Have been staying here for more years than I can remember as I can't find anywhere to compare with such a fantastic holiday. In response to the last review, yes I suppose the apartments could do with a re-fit but I do think you are exaggerating a little.

If you are used to 4* hotels then apartments would appear to be "shabby" in comparison, but these apartments are of typical - if not better - standard for spain and canaries. The apartments are in an excellent location with excellent services and amenities close by so you are never far from anything. The beautiful beach is merely a few steps away and there are 2 pools to choose from (the smaller of which tends to be quieter). The resort centre is an enjoyable 15min walk away, where there is plenty to do.

The complex is well looked after and is very safe for families and children. my only complaint is directed towards the German guests, some of who can be loud and inconsiderate, especially as this is a Superfamily property.

I WOULD RECCOMMEND THIS PROPERTY TO ANYONE, PARTICULARY FAMILIES.

" Booked via travel agent over phone,... "

Booked via travel agent over phone, chose over others because of 4 'T' rating. Very disappointed with accomodation;- scruffy, poorly maintained rooms, woodwork interior and exterior very shabby. Dirty marks on interior walls, with big stains on half walls under worktops. On entry, found sink in kitchen full of dirty water. Reason became apparent during stay;- when upstairs emptied their sink, their water came down and shot out of overflow and plughole on our sink. Bed settee that has to be used if more than 2 people in accomodation, was disgusting;- I've seen better dumped alongside roads in UK. This despite Thomson charging us a supplement because we were only 3 people to the accomodation, not 4!

Complained to Thomsons on their 'hotline' immediately about poor standard of accomodation. Referred us to rep later that morning. Rep tried to explain differences between 'stars, keys, and T'. Unsuccessful explanation, didn't really understand herself, and unable to offer advice as to how to avoid scruffy accomodation in future. In our opinion, it doesn't matter how accomodation is rated, it should never be shabby.

Thomsons refused to allocate us to alternative accomodation without our paying around £700 extra, and that was to 3 'T' accomodation that we had stayed in happily two years earlier.

Exterior public areas of Playa Flamingo well maintained, and pools good.

Complaint when electricity failed dealt with promptly, but drains problem ignored;- suspect waste water system badly designed, not clearing quickly enough, hence dirty water problem.

Thomsons' attitude cavalier;- felt like treated as cattle.

" We found the standards of cleanliness... "

We found the standards of cleanliness very high - it's the only complex we've been to where they thoroughly hose down the poolside area and sunbeds every morning. The one problem we did have, a broken outside light, was sorted straight away. The maid did a great job, keeping the room clean and fresh towels were provided whenever you wanted them. She even did the washing up once when we left our pots in the sink! The housekeeping/ management also provided a bottle of wine for my wife's birthday which was a nice gesture and they helped me order flowers. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly and even recommended a good place to eat (definitely visit El Mano, Marina Rubicon and the neighbouring Cafe del Mar - very chilled).

Kids were well catered for but as we don't have any we didn't feel the benefit - probably the reverse! Also, English kids may have felt a bit left out as most of the guests and reps were Finnish (or was it Swedish?) Apparently the balance is redressed come summertime.

Supermarkets on site were usually well stocked apart from a total absence of fresh milk one morning. Smacks aren't at their best served dry. Local restaurants were very good - do try the Italian, and also the "Vaca Tijuana" mixed grill.

We only did the one trip, the Catalanza Gold sail - great fun and with a jet bike ride included. Stuart from Blackpool, the on-board entertainer, was top fun.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend the place, particularly for families.

" A great place to stay, apartments... "

A great place to stay, apartments very clean, nice pool, and shop. My kids loved it and it was very safe for them, lots of activities with the kids club as well. Beach was 5 minutes away, was also lovely no waves, and lots of nice sand!!!!
Will be returning again next year. night life was quite but ok if you are looking for a nice meal and a few drinks. This resort would suit families with young children and older couples.
Also no one hassled you to buy anything in the streets. Also try the new water park in Corralejo Fuerteventura, it was a ferry ride away and is a great fun day out!!!! Good value for money.
" Just returned from a fantastic... "

Just returned from a fantastic holiday at Playa Flamingo. Quite a big complex, our apartment was towards the quieter end, near the children’s playground area. There are 3 pools on site, including one for smaller children, the bigger of the pools caters for the daytime activities, i.e. water aerobics, and water polo.

The area near the pool bar has regular activities too, darts, giant jenga, skittles, etc. There are two companies that organise the activities, Thomson and Blue Village. Thomson had a very good kids club, well organised and plenty of activities for children including a drop in centre. This was situated near the Blue Moon Bar, which ran the evening entertainment, children’s mini disco, and games.

The apartments are situated within a short walking distance to the beach, ideal for families and young children. There are also plenty of supermarkets on site. The apartments themselves were kept very clean, and provided basic cooking facilities. Overall, highly recommended!!
" The holiday was excellent, especially... "

The holiday was excellent, especially the reps. My children made lots of friends and the kids reps were one of there friends.
Our hotel room was great with all the things we needed!!! There is 3 pools, a big pool, a baby pool and a medium size pool so wherever you go there will always be a pool near your apartment.
Playa Flamingo’s restaurant named 'El Chef' was a fantastic buffet with many foods to choose from.
If you are hoping to go to Lanzarote for the next year and can not decide which hotel to choose, choose Playa Flamingo and for you, your husband or wife and the kids they will all be excited and happy about the RIGHT choice of hotel you have chose!!
Playa Flamingo is great!!!!!!!!!
" Apartment was excellent although... "

Apartment was excellent although housekeeping wasn’t very thorough. Spent most of holiday on the lovely beach only a short walk away as pools were too small to cater for the amount of holidaymakers and therefore were overcrowded. Three supermarkets on site were well stocked but staff and indeed most locals were very unfriendly. Security is present on site but doesn’t seem to be effective as I had my wallet stolen in the supermarket and when it was reported to staff they didn’t want to know. Also another person had a video camera stolen from the restaurant and as we were leaving someone else reported a stolen wallet!. Thomson reps in all honesty are mostly teenagers who are under the impression they are on holidays and don’t really have the experience or knowledge to deal with clients inquiries or problems.

I wouldn’t go back to this resort and would not recommend it to anyone and I also would not recommend Thomson as a tour operator which I am surprised at as they used to have a really good reputation which is no longer the case.

" The apartments and the location were... "

The apartments and the location were excellent, the better shops and restaurants are some 20 minutes walk along the promenade.
We spent most of the week on the beach as the pool near the apartments was a little breezy to say the least, it would be the ideal place to test a cars aerodynamics. Overall the place for kids was excellent.
Would we go again ....no there are other places in Europe that I still want to visit.

" Fantastic apartments, location... "

Fantastic apartments, location perfect for young children. Right next to a safe, clean beach. Plenty of good places to eat within walking distance (even for the kids), and even right on the site itself.

At least 3 supermarkets on site. This holiday was perfect in every way, so if you are considering staying here, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you have young children.

" My very first visit to Playa Blanca... "

My very first visit to Playa Blanca and in fact to Lanzarote although my husband to be has been several times and totally adores it, from the very first moment we touched down at Arrecife airport I was hooked!
The Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca is a wonderfully clean and friendly place to stay for a fantastic holiday, there are bungalows and apartments on a half board or self catering scheme, we had a beautiful apartment, basic but fantastic if that makes sense, maid service daily, clean towels daily, a choice of restaurants, snack bars or supermarkets to everybody is catered for.

Two wonderful pools, one with all the activities happening and one for the quieter life, a stones throw away from a gorgeous sandy beach with sunbeds and parasols if you want them. In the evening a small stroll along the sea front to choose from numerous restaurants all serving delicious food at varied prices to cater for all pockets.
The staff at the Flamingo were all fantastic, the Thompson crew were lovely and the German Blue Village crew equally nice, loads of trips to go on also or hire a car and take the cheaper option!...things not to miss Rancho Texas is a must! the trip to the hotel built into the side of a live volcano in Timanfaya National Park....now that IS something else, having your food cooked for you solely from the heat from the volcano and watching the magnificent sunset while you dine.. ...breathtaking! The camel ride up the volcano path, the views are spectacular! our 2 weeks there went too quickly and I loved every single minute of it.

Would I go back again, yes....year after year after year. Thank you Playa Flamingo!
