" Fantastic for families with small... "

Fantastic for families with small children! We took our three year old son and five month old daughter, very open-minded as a week had only cost us £600. What a fabulous holiday, basically read what the last few reviews said and I agree.

Perfect for young families, great kids programme and the reps are really good. Pool lovely, pool bar nice. Our son loved 'Thomson Time' when Thomson the dog comes out each day to tell a story. He went to the kid’s cub most days and to one of the evening session, he loved it (book as soon as you can though as one session he missed, as it was full by the time we tried to book).

The Blue Moon bar is great for kids, although I hate to sit indoors on a lovely evening; we just went there for an hour or so each evening to give our son his 'fix'.

Top tip for families with young kids GO TO THE CHINESE/STEAK HOUSE! Restaurant with bouncy castle on the rooftop terrace, just perfect for families. One side of the restaurant is a Chinese and the other serves a wide variety of food such as fish dishes, steaks, and paella.

Our son had a great time and it meant that we could enjoy a meal and a few drinks, as he was happy and occupied. Food lovely and great value. Chinese nice, cheap as chips! Steak in pepper sauce gorgeous. Prawns in oil gorgeous! We went there four evenings out of seven!

The Playa Flamingo is in a lovely location, a ten/fifteen minute walk from Playa Blanca although there are few bars and restaurants on the beach at the front of the complex (including the bouncy castle one).

We went down to the little beach every evening to watch the hundreds of tiny fish (well some not so tiny!) swimming round us whilst we paddled. Along the front are loads bigger sandy beaches which are lovely too.

We are going back again hopefully next year and would recommend to any families with young children. Don't go here if you don't like kids!

"  My mum and I spent one week in these... "

My mum and I spent one week in these apartments, first impression was excellent.

The beach was a nice size, very friendly and so handy being close to the apartments, the apartments were nice, basic, but the beds were really old and creaky.

Our worst thing was the ants in the apartment that were crawling on us in bed at night, they gave us ant powder which did help a bit but the problem was never resolved.

Also there were quite a few cockroaches in our apartment, and squashed along the walk way. Not nice.

Overall we made a lovely holiday out of it and went over to Fuerteventura by ferry as well. Walks were pleasant along the sea front.

The entertainment was a bit noisy and did get on our nerves a bit. I probably would not go back there, which is a shame cos it could have been great.

" I have just returned form 2 glorious... "

I have just returned form 2 glorious weeks at the Playa Flamingo Apartments in Playa
Blanca. (This was a last minute deal with Thomson). When we arrived the reception staff were very polite and efficient and we were in our accommodation within five minutes of arriving.

The apartment was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Beds were not the most comfortable but you soon got used to it. We had a ground floor room (9C) with a terrace, table and chairs and 2 sun loungers.

The maid service was excellent and we found all the staff friendly and really helpful. When we had a slight problem with our TV (the box on side was full so our euros didn't register for my son to watch a sky film) the maintenance guy was there in five minutes all smiles and had it sorted in 2mins flat. Nothing was too much trouble.

On the days we stayed by the pool (we did alternate days at the beach as my 15yr old daughter prefers swimming in sea) we thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment.

Little legs Laura was a scream and put her heart and soul into making everyone have fun. Its very family orientated and there was something for all ages and most people joined in at one time or another.

The beach is lovely and the sea was clear, but a little cold, with little fish swimming about so we enjoyed snorkelling.

There are plenty of places to eat and I would highly recommend the steak house and the Chinese! Oh and my son loved the pizzeria. We also walked the 10-15 min walk across the promenade and found lots of nice bars and places to eat.

The whole resort was idyllic and I would definitely stay there again. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed everything about it.

" Just got back from a very relaxing... "

Just got back from a very relaxing Holliday. We only paid 500 pound for a week for 3, so I wasn’t expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised.

The entertainers put their heart and soul into everything they do. We didn’t eat in the hotel because we liked the walk down to the harbour.
We found a nice place to eat looks a bit like a greasy spoon but the food is a1 it’s called snoopy bar.
Underneath is an Irish bar with some good live music in the night.

Back to the hotel, I’ve got to mention the pool its probably the coldest pool in the world, but because it was so hot it was very refreshing altogether.

If you are like us with a 15 year old girl, there’s not much to keep her occupied except the very dear internet.

" I can't believe we've been back for a... "

I can't believe we've been back for a fortnight already - and whilst the tan has faded, the memories won't! We had a cracking two weeks in May at Playa Flamingo, and enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Firstly, with two small children (3 and 8), our prime concern was their safety, and the quality of the kids club. Whilst it's not surprising that everyone was keeping their children close, the kid zone team under the inspiring leadership of 'Sassy Sarah' were the most perfect bunch of kids reps we've encountered in four seasons of Super Family.

Young enough to be full of fun but mature enough to be responsible, sensible and completely trustworthy - our children loved spending time with them, and we were able to relax and enjoy the break. Thanks guys!

The Ents reps were brilliant too - Little Legs is a really genuine character who throws herself into everything and has time and a smile for everyone. Magic is the consummate professional rep - hell-bent on giving the best entertainment but fully understanding that sometimes, that means he has to be thrown in the pool. Just watch his Crocs!

My personal holiday highlight is the finale of the reps show on our second week - Michael Flat Battery has to be seen to be believed and is, without a doubt, Martin at his very best (hello Mary!). It wouldn't be fair to not give a shout to Luke - new to the team and officially behind the desk - but never far from the entertainment side, and Mr Helpful...a real gem.

The apartments are really well located - the walk from Playa Flamingo to Playa Blanca is lovely - about 10-15 mins, but a really nice promenade. We only ventured out a couple of times, but I'm glad we stayed a bit further out - it gave more of a feeling of community.

We were really lucky in that our apartment was just what we asked for - we overlooked the pool and were handy for everything without being bothered by noise - 49B.

The food in our first week wasn't brilliant as we went half board and the buffet didn't open until the half term week. Personally, I didn't have a bad meal, but my husband was a bit disappointed with some of the steaks on the a la carte. The buffet was lovely though, lots of choice - even for a fussy non meat-eater like me.

The staff at the hotel were brilliant - we got on so well with the waiters and bar staff and a little Spanish goes a long way!

Overall - we just had a lovely, restful time. Met some great people & threw ourselves into all the activities. Highly recommended!

" We have recently returned from two... "

We have recently returned from two weeks at the Playa Flamingo, and had a great holiday. We went with our 2 year old twin boys who loved every minute of it.

The apartments are very spacious, and more than adequate for our needs, even if the beds were a little uncomfortable, it only takes a couple of days to get used to that. The rooms were cleaned 5x a week and were always spotless.

The complex was really good with a selection of shops and restaurants on site, with the Chinese being great value for money as well as really nice, with the bouncy castle occupying the kids. The shops are well stocked with everything you will need, although milk can be a rare commodity.

The SPAR in the town always has enough though and is a pleasant 20 minutes stroll along the prom. I can't recommend any of the restaurants, as I can't remember what they were called, but all were reasonable and the food decent.

The daytime entertainment was always good fun, and you were never hassled to get involved. Although our two were too young to go in the clubs, the Thomson reps still made them feel involved in what was going on, and there were two parks and a soft play area for them to use, so we were never short of things to do.

The pools were ideal, with the smaller one being shallow enough for all young kids, and they were never too crowded, although I imagine this is different in peak season.

The beach was a two minute walk away, and again, not in the slightest overcrowded, with plenty of space for everyone.

The evening entertainment was always good fun, with the reps really putting their all in to it, even if Magic Martin went on a bit too much about kids on the stage, only doing his job I suppose.

The waiter staff were always friendly, if sometimes a little busy, but overall, both the hotel staff and the Thomson staff did all they could to make sure you had a great time.

I think everyone we spoke to was impressed and said they would go back, and we would agree, and are already looking at dates for next year.

" We grabbed a quick week here in... "

We grabbed a quick week here in February, and absolutely loved Playa Blanca.

We managed a couple of days around the pool, and plenty of walking when it was a bit overcast. The nights in February are a bit nippy, but nothing that a couple of vodkas couldn’t cure! Also a sing a long at the Karaoke bar on the edge of town – a real good laugh!

The hotel was lovely, as usual I was a bit dubious after reading the reviews, but for the price you pay, it is good value. We paid about £575 for a week self catering in February.

The facilities were spot on. You get a few pans, a kettle, a coffee machine, a full size fridge, a little freezer, then all the usual crockery and cutlery.

The towels are changed everyday – I think the maid used to bring us about 8 in a day! No, they’re not soaked in Lenor after being washed, but they’re OK – better to have clean towels everyday than use the same one’s you used yesterday.

Why do many hotels still only change towels 2 or 3 times a week? I will not book a holiday that does this – Yuk! The maid service was excellent – ours cleaned everything! I left some dishes one day, and she’d done those too! How rude of me!

The restaurants are fab here in Playa Blanca. Try Typico Canary – right at the other end of Playa Blanca. It will take you about 45 minutes to walk here from the apartments – so what? You’re on holiday.

The food was great, as you can tell from the amount of Spanish who eat here. I tried the Canarian chicken – gorgeous! Also, the sardine starter is beautiful. My husband nearly died when the fish came complete with head and fins – doesn’t bother me!

We ate at the pizza restaurant within the hotel complex – absolutely gorgeous! The champagne sangria here was the best we had – definitely worth the extra euro!

The hotel has a beautician, which is hotel run, so not noted in the Thomson brochure. The prices are really good. I think you can get a massage for about £20. Eyebrows waxed for a fiver.

We never got a taxi all week – just walked everywhere. We caught the bus once into Puerto Del Carmen, as we had been there a couple of times when we were without child – would not go there now! It’s crazy! Not for us with a 3 year old. We also noticed the prices are more expensive than Playa Blanca, i.e. restaurants, beer – even electricals and clothing.

We would definitely go back to Playa Blanca, and to the Flamingo Hotel. The whole village is just so chilled out.

Have a great holiday here, and do not worry if you book this hotel – we saw not one bug, cockroach, or ant in or near the apartment – or anywhere really!

" My family has just returned from a... "

My family has just returned from a fab 2 weeks at the Super family Playa Flamingo apartments.

My 4 yr old twin boys loved the kids club which was 10-12 six days a week. They also went to the drop in sessions in the afternoons and the evening clubs (7-9 three times a week at a cost of 3 Euros each) the five kids club reps were fantastic which is why my boys kept going back.

The rooms were fine, clean and spacious enough. The cooking facilities were limited but as I do not cook on holiday it was adequate for us.

Around the pool there is a cool breeze which is great during the very hot days. The pool is quite cold but you get used to it. The super family entertainers are little legs Laura and Magic Martin. Laura is great with the kids.

The daytime activities start at 1130 with aerobics in the pool, at 12 there is a poolside game for both kids and adults, at 2:30 there is an adult’s pool game such as water polo and then at 3:30 there is the daily poolside quiz. Everyone is invited to participate in all activities but if you don't want to, you do not get hassled.

Kids disco starts at 8:30 and then the evening’s entertainment starts at 10pm. It was too late for my little ones but I guess they have to cater for all age groups.

The hotel bar that is open in the evenings is waiter service, whilst there were very good, service did get slower as more people came in. Could be a nightmare during high season.

There is a supermarket under reception that is fairly priced and has most things. We used it mostly for our day time drinks. A beer from the bar in a plastic cup cost 2.5 Euros or a can of beer from the shop costs around 75 cents. Water is 1.5 Euros from the bar or 50 cents from the shop. It still amazed me why people are happy to pay the extra for a plastic cup.

We only booked one excursion which was to Rancho Texas during the day. It is a great place to visit but the bus leaved too early for the return journey. We got there at 10:15 and had to leave at 14:10. After watching the shows and having lunch (Cheap and very quick to be served) the stroll around the rest of the park turned into a gentle trot.

We ate out almost every night, the nights that we didn't, we got a take away. I could definitely recommend the Chinese and the steakhouse just down from the hotel towards the beach. Both restaurants are under one roof and have a roof top terrace with a bouncy castle on it. A definite winner for my boys.

The Chinese does great set meals for 11 Euros a head. The Mexican in Playa Blanca centre is also very reasonable and has great food.

We walked along the sea front to the Rubicon Marina for the Wednesday market. It is about a 3 mile walk each way. Not a great deal at the market but it is a very pleasant walk.

We also walked the opposite direction to the lighthouse. Nothing to see and very few restaurants so unless you are going purely for the walk do not bother.

Will definitely consider going back again, although with different Kids club staff, next time might not live up to our expectations.

" This review is written in Swedish... "

This review is written in Swedish with English translations after each paragraph.

Playa Flamingo is a family facility which we got to experience by screaming children, both in the aeroplane and in the apartment next to ours, in day time as well as in night time.

The weather here is cold, rainy and windy in late January. Only one really nice day and two mediocre. It was raining and blowing the other four days so much that I shivered even though I wore a T-shirt, a longsleved sweater and a summer jacket. Rainy days the temperature drops to 15 degrees Celsius (and below) and sunny days it may reach 20 degrees Celsius. Average temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius as stated in travel brochures are nothing but lies.

The buffet at El Chef was mediocre except for the dessert which was tasty. Screaming children and long queues gives no peaceful dinner.

Renting a car at the hotel (46 euros for the smallest car) is more expensive than the car renting companies closer to town (30 euros for the smallest car where we rented).

It was cold in the apartment night time. We used the heater in the apartment all the time but it was not sufficient to keep the temperature up. Luckily we had brought our own heater which we also used a lot.

There are lots of stones on the beach and the sea water is cold. The nice beach pictures in the travel brochures lie because they are taken before the heavy storm that ruined the beach a year of two ago.

About the apartment one can say that tidying was mediocre, the beds were uncomfotable and the drawers in the kitchenette were broken.

Food on the island is generally expensive, at restaurants as well as in shops. The recommended fish restaurants in Orzola was not in our taste. The fish was probably fresh as well as the oysters in the soup, but tasteless and to be honest I'm not very delighted about fish with the head and fins not removed lying there on my plate. My woman's fish even had remains of bowels. Disgusting.

Everything costs at Lanzarote. The sunbeds at the beach cost 3,75 euros each. You even had to put coins in the TV to watch other channels than the Spanish ones. For the saftey box in the apartment we payed 20 euros of which 5 euros was returned when we checked out.

All excursions (arranged by the travel organizer) cost which is to be expected, but the prices were scandalous. We participated in an excursion around the island and had to pay 110 euros for the four of us. No food was included, only entrance to two sights, where the childrens' entrance by the way was free. Outrageously expensive to be honest.

Halva priset hade varit nog men barnen hade säkert varit lika besvikna i alla fall.

The 1800 euros that we paid for the flight and the accomodation (two adults and two children 11 and 9 years old) was definitely too much, at least this time of the year. Half the price had been enough but the children would probably have been disappointed anyway. In addition expect to spend about 1000 euro on food (one meal out per day and the rest we made ourselves), car rental for three days, a few entrances and one excursion.

To finally say something positive the beach walk is quite nice as was the view from our apartment (which we had payed 200 euros extra to get). The entertainment in the evenings in the hotel bar was quite good, even though there were lots of screaming children running around. In addition the layout of our aprartment was quite nice. The visit to the Timanfaya national park was interesting as was the visit to the lava cave Cueva de los Verdes.

In sumary "Never more Lanzarote during wintertime and definitlely not to a family facility".

" Visited this hotel in may06 for 1... "

Visited this hotel in may06 for 1 week and had a brilliant time.

Room was extremely clean, as was the rest of the complex. Restaurants on site were excellent and very good value for money.

Kids club was well run, my 6 yr old thought it was great, but did not cater for less than 3yrs of age which would be very beneficial to this complex as lots of younger children on site who also needed entertaining including my own 2 yr old.

On the downside pool was very cool but you do get used to it, and as we went at the beginning of the season then some maintenance still being carried out although did not really affect us.

Playa Blanca is a lovely place about 10 mins walk away with lots of little bars and restaurants along the pretty sea front all being child friendly and very reasonable.

Overall had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend it. Re ebooked the day after we got back to go again next may only this time for 2 wks, can’t wait!!!

" We have just returned from these... "

We have just returned from these apartments and had a wonderful holiday. We have 2 young children (5 and 3) and they had a fantastic time. Great pool with separate children’s pool. The entertainment from Thomson's was fantastic. From 11am in the morning until late at night. Tweety and Rachel were great. The kids club was good, although mine only went in once. Every evening there is a kids disco from 7.30 - 9.00pm and then adult entertainment which is also suitable for the children.

The apartments themselves were of a good standard and plenty of room for the 4 of us in a 1 bed room. We had a quite room by the main pool and also had a sea view.

It was a short 10 minute walk along the sea front into the main Playa Blanca town. The Irish Bar at the first set of shop is well worth stopping at. Food was great and good value (we had a 3 course meal with 5 pints of lager, 5 pints of coke plus kids drinks for £40.00). They also show all the sport.

Good value holiday with great entertainment - we will certainly be going again.

" Me and my boyfriend had a lovely time... "

Me and my boyfriend had a lovely time at this resort. The apartment was really nice and modern. This hotel has a big kids club so don’t expect to be able to take a leisurely swim in the pool, however this wasn't too much of a problem because there is a beach at the front of the complex.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby and also around the bay of this resort. There is a great promenade that goes around the whole bay and is great for taking walks.

Playa Blanca is quite windy, we didn’t find this to be a problem, but it did make it a little cool at night when walking along the front near the sea, bring a cardi.

" We stayed at the Playa Flamingo... "

We stayed at the Playa Flamingo apartments in Playa Blanca in January 2005. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone wanting a very relaxing break where you simply recharge your batteries! The apartments were simple yet very clean and adequate and the views were fantastic (perfect when you wake up on a morning).

The restaurants and shops were very close by and had everything we needed. Our son was almost 4 yrs old when we visited and it the beach was fantastic for him - not too crowded and small enough to be able to keep a close eye on him at all times. The sea was beautiful and calm and very clean.

We are going back here in January (although we are hiring a villa/ apartment right on see front because we are taking extra family members) because we know it is such a perfect holiday.

10 out of 10.

" We have recently got back from here... "

We have recently got back from here and the holiday overall was good and catered well for the children but we too experienced money being stolen from our room, they also broke the lock on my partners suitcase trying to get some more money.

We reported it to the reception who were most unhelpful and just said there was nothing they could do as the manager was on holiday for 3 weeks! The rep told me no other incidents had been reported but after speaking to a few other holiday makers I learnt we were not the only ones and others had had more taken than me, they had reported it to the rep so he wasn't telling me the truth.

I had to push just to get four free drinks from the hotel, even then we could only have one drink each! We didn't get any feedback from anyone about our money stolen, one family were even told their money was taken because they hadn't locked their door, but it was. It put a big dampener on the end of the holiday.

The location is good, there are a few places to eat very close to the hotel but they all do the same food. I can however strongly recommend the Chinese! Cheap and delicious! If you want fresh fish the harbour is about a 25 min walk away, there is much more up there.

The children’s entertainment is good, the only downfall is the younger club is in the morning and the older club is late afternoon so you never get a break.

The room was nice and decorated well and was everything we required, the sofa bed was comfy enough.

I wouldn't go back again only because of our experience and the lack of different places to eat. The hotel staff need to crack the problem of the thefts because many people will be put off by this but they seem to be brushing it under the carpet.
