We've just came back from the Jardin de Mar and it was OK for the money (we paid 48 euros per apartment per night). It is dated and worn out but clean. I think it used to be a 4 star back in the 80s but things have changed since, or rather STAYED the same!T he location was... more

Just arrived back today and wanted to dispel a few myths. The hotel is very clean but basic but please remember that it is only 3 star and it's good value for money. The view across the bay is brilliant- pay for a sea-view but make sure you get one as the hotel gets busy... more

Great apts but beware the so called animacion!!!
I stayed here for 2 weeks from may 25th 06, the hotel is now owned by TRH hotels and not Barcelo. I found the hotel in a beautiful location. Maids were very very friendly and the bar staff second to none they were indeed very light hearted and efficent. I was self catering but the food on offer was very reasonable and good quality. the rooms were big and very clean but if you dont have a sea view beware the view is very poor. One big setback was the entertainment it was a joke the entertainer drove the people from the hotel and when she took charge of kids frightened them there was volleyball , football advertised but was never on she was so lazy she talked all day and might have a rifle shoot or archery this despite various activities advertised daily!! she was very happy to take towels from the sunbeds if they were unoccupied!! and scream at kids to get their airbeds out of the pool! the hotel is an above average hotel for 3 stars but if your lookin for entertainment go elsewhere.
food not up too much
Stayed at this hotel on 29 march for one week with my husband and two children aged 5 an 7. we were all inclusive. Food was rotten, kids hardly ate a thing the whole week they were there. Catered mostly for the spannish and cerainly not for children. Entertainment was nil. Maybe this hotel would be better during the summer months but definately not in March/April. Would definately not return here out of season. Only consolation was weather was great.
Fantastic Hotel
Planned a nice relaxing holiday following 6 months of chemo. On arriving to this hotel, we were double booked for the first night, wasn't too happy but found amusment in the receptionists name "Toly" who was very apologetic. We arrived the following morning to find that "Toly" god bless his cotton socks, had upgraded us and gave us half board and free drinks for 3 nights, which he didn't have to do!!!! (The cancer card comes in handy at times). The apartment was fantastic and boasted an enormous balcony with stunning views! The apartment was spotless clean and in a great location to all amenities. If you are planning a trip to Santa Ponsa I would totally recommend this hotel. I was planning on a nice relaxing holiday and ended up partying till dawn each day! Love the hot irish men and their music!!!!!!! Although Santa Ponsa is a lively resort, It's suitable for any age and it was great the fact that our hotel was very quiet during the day and night, therefore allowing us to get over our major hangovers!!!!! Loved it that much I'm going back June 2006!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another review!
Room was very comfortable and very clean, with enough items for self catering. The room would have been a squash if we had taken any teenagers, rather than one 3 and a half year old. Booked with Alpharooms - everything ok there. We did have a side sea view (but only from the balcony - but it was close to the sea). The maids were very friendly and made a fuss over our daughter. The pool area was very clean and tidy and had a nice 'quietness'. No rowdy people around at this time of the year! My daughter had someone to play with when we visited it for two hours per day. There was an excellent, safe play area for children under the age of about 6. Casper the 'entertainer' was a nice lad - although we still couldn't win any cocktails! Went for breakfast once (6 Euros). Not enough cups for everyone - the waiter told me to use a cereal bowl (could they have not gone into the kitchen to get some more out?). Food was a bit 'bland'. A couple said they had been for years and the quality had gone down since it was taken over by TRH. Ate in the restaurant one night (11 Euros if self catering)- food better than breakfast, but still lacked flavour (though the lemon ice cream was delicious). If you want to eat until you drop its good value (which I normally do - but this time even I decided to go for quality food elsewhere). Thought we wouldn't bother in the hotel again. La Pergola (green front almost opposite the hotel)was a little expensive but all food tasted delicious. We had salad, pizzas and roast baby leg of lamb (3 meals there) and all were high quality and far tastier than the hotel food. Anyway, to cut a long story short... we thought the hotel had excellent facilties for families with young children, the room and maid service was excellent, the reception staff were friendly and professional and yes, we would go to the hotel again.....but please make your food taste of something!
Loved These Apts
I go to these apartments every year twice a year they are just fantastic. They are great for a family holiday & great for a quiet holiday also. The staff are fantastic very friendly & helpful with any queries you may have. I would highly recommend the complex. Really impressed Customer
great location
We Stayed here in June of 2005 loved it so much we went back in Oct of the same year, spotless clean towels changed and room tidied every day except Thurs and Sundays. The only thing I would have to say against the apartments is that they are too small the bedroom with twins beds is fine but the bed in the living room didn.t fold out so we were given a camp bed and both very uncomfortable and also the kitchen is very small but supplies all needs. We thought that as it was a family resort there would be some entertainment at night but unfortunately there was bingo and some music for the kids so we didnt stay in much another night there were flamenco dancers which we did enjoy but it didnt start until 10.00 and was over at 11.00. The pool area is fab compared to othere resorts there are plenty of sunbeds and there is no charge for these and also the pool bar/restaurant opens from early til 6.00 in the evening the staff are so friendly they even remembered us when we went back in October.Location is excellent plenty of Bars and restaurants 1/2 minute walk away. Tip for good breakfast (The Royal Garden Restaurant ) facing supermarket on the corner you would get a full english breakfast as they called it but it was actually like an Irish breakfast as the chef was from Limerick was around €3/€4 and would set you up for the day then in the evening try the El Jardin which would be half way up the hill from the supermarket amazing steaks and pizzas. If you go to the Square beware of the machines for the kids they will cost you a fortune. The entertainment in the square is very good each night is a different artist which would take off the likes of the Drifters, Abba, Robbie Williams etc. but if you have no kids with you you probably wouldnt like it as the amount of kids running around is mad but if you have kids it is very safe. Definately would take a trip back
This is a Great Hotel
I'll not mention the hotel in detail because other reviewers have done that. I'll just say that I have been to very many hotels/apts over the years on holiday, and this is the best. Yes, the rooms can be small so don't take two teenagers with you, and if you take two toddlers it will be difficult staying in the room. I found the food was astonishingly good. Of a very high quality and so much choice. But if you prefer the standard of cafe food served in the so-called restaurants outside, then you won't like the Hotel food. In the Hotel you got what you wanted, when you wanted it and as much as you wanted. With waiters who were very pleasant and helpful. AND you couldn't beat the price. Overall, it was so good that out of the 19 days we stayed there we could only trust ourselves to eat in on 9 of them, or we'd end up a stone heavier. The pool was very nice, and the pool bar was excellent in both choice, price and service. The location could not be bettered. In summary, if you haven't got any toddlers or kids under teen age, AVOID the square. It's full of badly parented kids running amok (sorry to those parents who looked after their kids properly, but i'm sure yopu'll agree). The setup and entertainment was pretty poor too. Expect only cafe quality food and Irish/British breakfasts in the "restaurants" around. The Mexican near to town and the grill place opposite being the only two exceptions we found. Also AVOID the Irish live music bars in the town late on (by midnight) unless you like complete drunkenness and anti-English rebel songs. The Hotel Palmyra and Amsterdam bars were cool and friendly (like the Dutch always are). Even if i was Irish, i'd prefer somewhere where i could mix with other nationalities. Santa Ponsa caters for the 90% Irish and 8% Scottish that go there. Couldn't find a single Spanish restaurant either. That said, outside of August, i bet it's lovely and you couldn't be in a better hotel. And by the way, my entire family is English from 4/5ths Irish parents..
Not nearly as nice as expected.
Located about 30-45 mins drive from Palma, this hotel is firmly aimed at families. Neither my wife or I have a problem with kids (we are expecting), but unless you adore kids 24/7, neither this hotel or most of the local resort will be of much interest to you. The pool area looks great but in fact despite big signs forbidding it, most sunloungers have towels covering them by 8:30am and it's not a place to relax around until around 6pm (when the pool bar shuts). Decent sized beach about 15 mins walk, otherwise just some rocks down by the side of the hotel. The hotel is very clean but the room are very basic, especially the beds which were, erm, nasty. One bit of bad luck was being woken one morning at 6:30am by an industrial lawn mower and strimmer, working in the pool area. This went on for 2 hours and no amount of complaining would get them to stop. We were on the 5th floor, goodness knows what it was like on the ground floor. Lucky we got an early night the night before.... The local area is typical spanish/english/irish/scots, with bars and cafes to suit. Eating out was OK, nothing great (you have to travel 10 mins by cab to get a great meal at a great location - but it's really worth it). We never had anything to eat at the hotel. Hardly any did as far as we could see If you are a young family on a budget - this is great. Familys with kids 10-15 - there's much better on the island Couples and singles - find somewhere else. The drink to fall-down crowds - Magaluf.
Lovely hotel.
Clean rooms and well maintained and clean pool and sunterraces.Food was of a buffet style and was of average standard. Rooms were adequate for two adults or two adults and one child, and were nicely furnished. There is a fridge, a two ring hob, hob kettle, cutlery, plates etc. There is not an oven or a grill. You can hire the safe in the room for two euros a day.If you have come self catering and would like to upgrade, it is 6 euros per adult, 3 euros for children for breakfast, and 11 euros per adult, 6 euros per child for evening meal. You can get half board for 14 euros per adult, 8 euros per child per day, for a minimum of 3 days. There are so many restaurants and cafe bars right beside the hotel though, you will be spoilt for choice. Also, there is a big supermarket around the corner. There seemed to be plenty pool activities for all ages, and although not a huge pool the kids were having plenty fun. You will have to get up about 8am if you want to get a sunlounger as they go fast! The ' square ' is two minutes walk from hotel and is good entertainment for all ages with many tribute bands. Further up there are a lot of discos and Irish pubs fot the young and lively. The taxi fare from the airport was approx 35 euros each way but well worth it. I would recommend this hotel and I would go backagain, tomorrow if I could!!!
Plenty on offer
Nice hotel in an excellent location, easy to reach all the bars and restaurants although the rooms were slightly smaller than average. However, the cleaning staff were excellent and the rooms were kept clean and tidy and replaced with clean towels every day. The 'beach' next to the hotel is small and rocky but a short walk leads to a lovely white sanded beach. The pool area and pool side bar were kept very clean and the food and snacks were nice and affordable. The hotel also offered activities for children and adults to join in with and evening entertainment (the water polo proved popular). Although a word of caution, there are tiles missing in the pool were a member of our party cut his foot so do be careful, other than that the hotel is wonderfully kept and the lobby and bars are very clean and modern. There is a wonderful range of bars etc suitable for whatever night you have planned, whether you want a quiet night, a night of cocktails, live entertainment or something that will appeal to young children there is plenty on offer on the resort and it is worth exploring for the best of the night time entertainment and restaurants. In peak season there are a lot of teenagers but there are plenty of places to go if you wish to avoid the more boisterous areas.
