Jul 2008, Mr A Davenport

Booked on an indirect recommendation so we didn't know what to expect but the price was good. Its very close to the railway station (good but indirectly linked to the airport) and just on the edge of the resorts centre (so not too noisy at night). The hotel is old... more

The hotel is in a great location if you want to be in the heart of town - ideal for bars and restaurants and the beaches are close by too. The room was cleaned and made up every day with fresh towels. Breakfast is plentiful. The only slight drawback (but then it goes with... more

Food for thought
We stayed at this hoteel in Cctober 2005, The hotel is very basic but a good location for everything, food was awful, and the beds were like camp beds,Thomson Holiday's advertise this hotel as a 3 star, more like a 1star...we would never return too the Galeon, Sitges
Excellent!
Have recently returned from a 10 day stay in the Galeon. Generally the hotel was excellent, with helpful staff. The location is great if you are looking to be in the centre of the goings-on! We were originally given a room in the Pavillion (an annexe to the main hotel) which was very small, but asked to be moved, and were after one night. For those that plan to stay there, request a room in the main hotel, they are much bigger! The only criticism we had was the air conditioning. It was there, but it wasn't the most effective. We were there on a bed-and-breakfast basis, and from talking to others it seems we weren't missing much on the food front! Breakfast was good though, on the two occasions we made it! Small pool to the rear, with shade all day for those that want it. All in all, would thoroughly recommend the Galeon.
average hotel - terrible food!
OK, so the location is pretty handy and the pool area is nice (but gets full very quickly so we hardly ever sat there) and the staff are friendly enough, but the food is really, REALLY awful - do yourself a favour and DONT go half board. Ordinarily I'd complain about the rushed service at dinner time (25 minutes for 3 courses) except that in this case, having to wolf the food down without tasting it was a benefit. For some reason garlicky brussel sprouts and instant mashed potato seemed to be a chefs favourite, with every meat dish swimming in watery gravy. The only aspect of our evening meal that we looked forward to were the menus, which were full of quirky spanglish food ideas ("laminated mushrooms", "potatoes poor style" and "fillet of meagre" were our favourites) Even the continental breakfasts were boring and uninspiring (no surprises there) The rooms themselves were adequate, tho as noted in other reviews the air con is centrally controlled and not always on when you wud want it - and out balcony was only big enough for 2 small plastic chairs - good for drying towels but little else For the money we paid it wasnt really worth it - sitges was a lovely little town but when I go again I wont be staying at the galeon (or its sister hotel the pavilion, which - despite the impression given by the brochure - isnt adjoining it, but out the back entrance, over the other side of the street and 50 yards away) This is not a 3 star hotel, but a 2 star with a pool Our top tip for excellent full english breakfasts (til 3pm - with proper HP sauce!) and superb evening meals at really good prices, and a great little ambience is "the beach house" on carrer san pau, only about 5 mins walk from the hotel near the front. Excellent job lads, keep up the good work
No air conditioning at night
The air conditioning in the Galeon Hotel was switched off every night between 12.00 and 7.30am - just when you need it most for sleeping!!! Makes having air-con a bit pointless. Otherwise, the rooms were very clean, but basic. Hotel has a nice pool but sunbathing is limited to certain areas around the pool due to the high walls surrounding it. Hotel is in a good location for the beach and train station. Trains run to Barcelona every 15-20 mins and return from Barcelona Sants station until midnight. I would recommend you find alternative accommodation if you are looking for somewhere you can sleep comfortably - you could check if the Galeon Hotel have changed their air-con policy at night. We stayed for 2 weeks and booked through alpharooms for a reasonable price, about 50 pounds per night. However, we would have gladly paid more if air-con was guaranteed at night as sleeping was unbearably hot. Steer clear unless your out clubbing all night and sleep during the day.
Good location
Hi all, just returned from Sitges where I stayed at The Galeon. The hotel is very basic and the room I had looked out onto a wall. It was also above a shop which played pumpin house music so I suppose the rooms on the higher floors or with pool view are okay. I did like the small courtyard/pool and the street it was on was very central and had good shops. I would highly recommend the stylish Mezzanine restaurant nearby and the clothes store Dive for mens trndy clothes. All in all I love Sitges. Have fun.
Gay days at the seaside
A pleasant small hotel ideally situated in this little gem of a resort. Ten minutes from the beautiful beaches and only five from the main cafe and bar area and the railway station. The frequent trains will take you to the main tourist area in Barcelona in about thirty minutes. Although centrally located, the quiet garden is an ideal place to relax. There is a very small, and usually cold, pool and keen swimmers will look to the beach or the splendid public pool just one stop down the railway at Vilanova; don't forget to pack a swimming hat for this one because they won't let you in without. Try to get in the main hotel rather than the Pavilion because this is located across the street and a little way off. Rooms in both are basic but very clean and usually quiet. The meals, which are taken in the main hotel, are not good. The breakfast selection is monotonous and the dinners, which you order the previous day, vary between the poor and the uneatable. General opinion had it that the dinners ordered were prepared in advance and then microwaved when required. You will not be given much time to eat your dinner and so the time allowed has to be given to eating rather that to contemplation or conversation and dinners are taken in silence. If seduction over a leisured meal and a bottle of wine is your aim then eat out; in fact, eat out anyway. There is a wonderful range of eating places in Sitges and every taste is catered for. Sitges is the premier 'gay' resort in Spain but this should not put 'straights' off. The considerable gay population is interesting, colourful and entirely non-threatening.
Suitable for families but not romantic
This Hotel is fine, but not more than that, central location, close to train station, our room was cleaned every day, good and varied breakfast, friendly and helpfull staff. Gay friendly with many other couples! I will not however not order a room with their dinner included, it was fine but very basic! Overall this hotel is good but in general we REGRET that we did not book a room at Hotel Romantic, it is REALLY romantic, we went for drinks there every night, it is not as bad as the rewievs says!
Fantastic location.
We stayed at the Galeon for a week in June 2004 on a Bed and Breakfast basis. When we booked it we didn't really know what to expect. In terms of location it's fantastic, we stepped off the train in Sitges and it was just a few streets away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As the the hotel was on a main street it was nice to get a room over looking the pool at the back. The room was very clean and seen to everyday. The breakfasts were nice and we had plenty to chose from. In addition the beach was just a 5 minute walk away. This hotel was great for the money, I would deffinately return.
Great little hotel, fantastic service, modes, but nice rooms, great private pool area
although a limited menu, plenty of great food. The rooms although most do not have a balcony are very comfortable and clean. The service and care from the staff was second to none during my last visit when my mother was serously ill. The pool is pretty and protected from traffic noise with walls covered in flowers. A haven.
Fantastic Time
We have spent two weeks at the resort of Sitges staying at the Galeon Hotel. The hotel and staff were excellent, the meals were varied with excellent choices each day. We were there from 26-06.03 to 07-07-03 We would highly recommend staying in the Galeon. The rooms are cleaned every day and are well maintained. The hotel is right in the centre only a short walk to the beach and to the centre of town. We are definitely going back next year.
