Gran Melia Salinas is a very nice hotel staff very friendly but 5 star plus rating is getting dated as tired room decor and worn fitments need upgrading. Also in need of pool service! Breakfast fantastic also location, pool and gardens. Villas are wonderful but very expensive.
WARNING Be warned on buying any electronic equipment from a store called "VIDEO TECH" 100 yards from hotel 7 aggressive salesmen have a wonderful scam (even demo’s are rigged! Clever!) Of selling electronics which costs nexts to nothing in UK for hundreds of pounds over its market value. We managed to get our money back after going back to hotel and finding numerous complaints on internet and finding camera was worth £40 in UK having bought for £320 having been told its £845 camera, advice send your wife in shouting ‘give me my money back’ at the top of her voice until they give in after turning away wood be customers for an hour it worked for us..!!!

HOTEL
20 minute taxi ride from airport, around 17 Euros.
Hotel very impressive, large and very clean.
Double room was adequate size and balcony larger than normal with all rooms overlooking the sea. Bath robes, slippers and lovely complimentary bathroom pack. Room 426 good view of bay.
Grounds of hotel very pleasant, though some rough ground in places where black and white paving type stones with rough surface are laid as a pathway.
Pool has graduating depth, so good for children though it does get very deep in places. Ideal for adults to swim around - large but very cold!
Plenty of sunloungers (though with a conference of 200 when we went September were difficult to get until they had gone home!) Not enough sun parasols however.
I’d read that cold flannels were given out, but when we were there they weren’t.
The huge downfall of the hotel in our opinion was that the staff did not seem very friendly and could hardly communicate/not speak English (with exception of reception staff). Not even a smile from staff, very disappointing. Didn’t feel welcome compared to other hotels of this standard.
Food was ok, though repetitive (this was disguised as food was moved to different location) with brussel sprouts and peas served for breakfast some mornings. Now I’ve seen some things during my travels, but this was a first!
Many grills where you choose your meat/fish/pasta/omelette and wait and watch it being cooked. I personally wasn’t keen on doing this - though it did ensure meal was freshly cooked.
Entertainment was good, with a duo playing harp and guitar at breakfast time, very relaxing.
Odd day was a pianist and violinist for dinner - shame not more often.
Evening entertainment had some specialist acts such as acrobats, Elvis impersonator who was quite good. Some other acts however too monotonous doing same routine each evening and not so good.
RESORT
Costa Teguise is quite breezy but not enough to be a nuisance. Temps were upper 70's early 80's Mid September when we went.
Resorts is very clean with low rise buildings and rather quiet - no lager louts or large groups of youngsters.
Many restaurants and bars to choose from all in close proximity.
Would recommend hiring car for day as we did (we used Hertz who were good) and saw other resorts briefly.
Generally a relaxing resort and hotel which we enjoyed.
Having booked first time by internet hotel, flight, car park and insurance was very nervous. But all worked out well.
Not a resort/island we would return to, but worth the visit
As a one off.

Good quality hotel although I have to agree that some fixtures and fittings are looking a bit worn. The atrium type centre are of the hotel was lovely and added to the overall character of the building.
We found the staff very friendly when asked for help but otherwise not very pushy, all were very courteous at all times. Breakfast buffet was excellent and the evening buffet was also very large and varied although watch out as it cost 100euros for two of us including wine and this price was not advertised anywhere. For the range and quality of food available it was probably about right and there was a good wine selection with some priced very reasonably. Dining at the Casa Canaria was a bit more secluded and special, again a meal for two came in at 90 euros including wine which I thought very reasonable as the standard and presentation was very good. Plenty of cheaper dining options in the area around the hotel.
A nice relaxed resort if you just want to chill out, was never aware of any late night venues or binge drinking louts, some good beaches although the sea can be a bit choppy at times. If you want more action in the evenings Puerto De Carmen is only a twenty minute drive away. Despite it being December the daily temperature was 23 degrees Celsius, a bit cooler in the evenings. Hotel pool was salt water and although chilly at first was actually very comfortable when you adjusted to it. The pool itself was also showing some signs of wear. Evening entertainment at the hotel was varied, usually an act of some kind followed by live music until 11 or 12 midnight.
Quite a lot of children in the hotel which may put some people off but they seemed to operate a very good kids club for activities during the day.
