La Conca Azzurra Hotel

We booked a weeks long holiday for our first wedding anniversary thorugh citalia. From the outside the hotel does not look much - just a ceramic shop on the corner of the amalfi coast road, 10 minutes bus ride from Amalfi itself. You go down a set of steps on the cliff to get to the hotel reception - from then on the hotel was stunning. We loved this hotel - having come from the hustle & bustle of Sorrento, (which we also loved but was very different) this was a haven of peace & quiet in which to end our holiday - a place to really chill out! Our bedroom was lovely, decorated in an individual, charming style and the views from the balcony were just beautiful. First impressions were nice, but balcony in room was not much use, as enclosed and no sunshine to sit out and bathe. Half way through holiday we found the the maid had used our bathroom and had been smoking in the room. We were offered an upgrade to another room, the room itself was actually not as good, small old fashioned bathroom, broken fridge, old tv, but the terrace was an improvement as more open with sunshine but could not have glass doors open as mosquito net on outer doors had large holes in! Guestrooms large balcony is enclosed with a sliding window so not suitable for sunbathing! Our sheets were not changed the whole 7 days we were there! Our room had a whirlpool bath when we enquired how to work it were told by reception we had to pay 10euros for 20 mins!! Dont even think about getting taxis 25 euros from Amalfi to hotel. Bus is best but pretty hairy. Lots of mosquitos plug in supplied for bedroom but nothing in the hotel restaurant we asked for some citronella candles didnt appear. We stayed for a long weekend for my husband's birthday, we like small comfortable hotels with good food and were not disappointed on either count. The room was well appointed with a balcony overlooking the sea, sadly the weather was not good enough for us to really make use of it, but on a warm summer evening I'm sure it would be an ideal place to enjoy a Campari and soda before dinner. What a great place to stay...when you open the door to your room, you see the most beautiful view of the sea. The rooms have good size balconies with lots of sitting and tanning room. The rooms also have frescoes painted on the walls which gave the room a real authentic look. Our bed faced the balcony, so we saw the sea every morning when we woke up, right from our bed. My family has stayed at this hotel for years. It is truly a beautiful place, with a tremendous view! We were treated like family by a friendly and courteous staff. No need to think that there would be a language problem as English is easily understood. The food was delicious and portions large enough to share. We chose this place because it was central to Amalfi and Positano, without having the nice from staying in the town center. We were hoping to be comfortable, but ended up being treated like family. First, the property is beautiful. It sits on the cliff below the main road overlooking the Mediterranean.
