Loved Samos
We have just come back from a 7 day holiday at the Proteus Bay Hotel in Pythagorion, Samos. Overall we had a very relaxing holiday on an attractive island, which is possibly more Greek than many of the larger islands. The hotel is built on a hillside in a secluded bay about 3Km from the Pythogorion Town and about 15 minutes drive from the Airport. Although there is some aircraft noise; the number of flights is few with none early morning or at night. The walk to the town takes about 30 minutes down the main road. It would possibly... more
Definitely not a 5* !!
Beautifully situated, quite, giving nice scenery during breakfast and dinner, however breakfast was average and dinner was boring. During 8 days we only had 2x fish on the menu, which should have been a daily choice for a 5 star hotel. Beverages are expensive!! We had a room in a bungalow, again nice view, however the airco didn't work properly, and when our upstair neighbours were taking a shower, we had to wait because we simply didn't have anymore water. 5€ for 2 sunbeds with umbrella at the small beach should have been included in... more
Great view
We have been in Samos a couple of times, and I can safely say this is one of the better places, and maybe the best view of all hotels in Samos. Not international 5 star level, agreed, but as close as it gets in Samos. Ask for upstairs room in main building. Staff was extremely friendly and service minded, and they have a very professional, mature bartender, who makes an excellent MaiTai. If we return to Samos again, this is where we will stay.
Great Beach Hotel
In general, this was a great comfortable, relaxing beach hotel. There is nothing fancy or ultra deluxe about the accommodations, but the location, setting, staff, etc. make this the perfect place for a beach veg. It's a bit out of town, but the hotel provides shuttles into the nearest town and if you want to come back after the last shuttle (or at other than shuttle times) taxis are plentiful and cheap. The rooms are a bit '70s in decor, but everything in them works and they are very comfortable. The food (breakfast and lunch as we... more
Fantastic hotel but not 5 star!
We stayed in this hotel for a week in August with our 12 year old son. After hiring a car and viewing all of the Island we feel that we were in one of the best! For August it was very quiet, just what we wanted. There was a good mix of nationalities at the hotel and very few English. The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English on the whole. The rooms were clean and adequate although I would have expected a little more for a 5 star hotel. There is a fridge, no bidet and poor decoration to the bathroom (could do with an... more
Not a 5 star but a great Greek hotel
Read the recent reviews with interest, the comments are fair on an international standard but we found the hotel safely the best we had stayed in during our holidays in Greece. The food was not adventurous international fusion cuisine but a good version of local Greek fare, perfectly OK and certainly not inferior to the food we found elsewhere locally. My husband has a wheat allergy and every night a meal was specially created for him. the food is worth having for the stunning views across the strait to Turkey - again something that is... more
Not that great
We stayed at this hotel for two weeks last summer. The hotel is supposed to be a five star hotel but is more like a 3 star hotel. There was no room service, something you would expect from a 5 star hotel. there was no mimibar in the room either (not really a problem, but usually standerd at 5 star hotels). Building standards: The lobby area is very nice and was always clean . We were first given a room in the main building but swapped right away for a room in one of the bungalows closer to the pool and beach. The bungalow rooms... more
Great vacation
I have stayed at this hotel two times, and I loved it. The breakfast buffet was delicious, the dinner was good too. The staff was very nice. The pool was beautiful and the beach was really nice. Short way to Pythagorion, free buses 4 or 5 times a day. Taxi is cheap if you want to go when the buses doesn't. Pythagorion is lovely, maybe not so much to do, but it's no problem
Can't wait to return
In June 2001, my husband and daughter (28) returned to my husbands homeland of Samos, we stayed at Proteas Bay Hotel in Pythagoria, and was overwhelmed by the location, food, rooms, everything, they have a small beach, (a must is rubber shoes for the rock) with lounge chairs and umbrellas (small fee). but worth it. the views of the ocean are everywhere, especially is the dining hall. they had a Greek night by the pool that was great fun with buffet to die for. we are planning our 2002 vacation are taking friend to stay with us. A must See... more
