Just got back from a fabulous week in Rhodes staying at the Anseli hotel in Kremasti. What this hotel lacks in star rating is more than compensated by the friendliness, attentiveness and welcoming staff of the family run hotel. The entire place was spotlessly clean and... more

Very poor hotel. Upon arrival a young gentleman shouted at us (there were 4 of us in total) as her suitcase pulled up the carpet that had not been properly laid in the first place. We entered the room and a dead cockroach was found on the floor by the bathroom door and the... more

Best holiday yet
best holiday ever and i will definately go back. the barman was really friendly and the hotel was really nice. there was good bars there and everyone made you feel welcome. there was good prices and the food was delicious. i would advise anybody go because it just ticks all the boxes. i share a lot of good memories with my friend form when we went!
Hidden Gem Loved It
This place really is a hidden gem...its tucked away behind the little town, a short walk from the beach and even shorter to the town. It has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with food that is spot on. There is plenty of entertainment and things to do:Greek night, Bingo, Quiz night, kareoke and a Pool table. A well run establishment with very efficient service. If you have a problem they are more than happy to help in any way possible. The bar man is a real star and the owners and ohter staff are a very nice family. In all...WELL WORTH IT!!!!
Planes over kremasti...
A very nice, clean hotel. Staff are readily available to help if needed. Beds seemed a little too hard, aircon had to be paid for as well as a tv. Kind of a sparse kitchen in the self catering rooms. Nice deep pool with sunbeds around the pool. Kareoake some nights with pool tables and other entertainement Food was FABULOUS, well prepared and VERY tasty (not sure about the bar stock as i dont drink). The planes zooming very close overhead tend to become a bit annoying as the airport is 4 kms aways and the approach to the landing strip is almost directly over head. (planes fly over with landing gear down and flaps to full, gets pretty noisy) Beach is a 7-10 min walk and so is the main village. Lots of friendly people, and the little cafeteria on the beach (left side as you approach the beach down the road) serves pretty decent food. (and lotsa beer, it seems) Beach is pebbly with some sand thrown in and the pebbles run down into the water for quite a ways (you need to wade/swim over them for a bit to get to a sandy spot to stand on.)
fantastic, friendly and relaxing
Arrived early hours and met with a smile.....Akis....the encourageable barman....shown to our room....clean, tidy and cool......met the family the following morning...helpful, pleasant and very welcoming.......tried the hotel food...lamb kleftiko is highly recommended...but dont forget the rest...even egg and chips!!!!!!...toured the village....what friendly people.....had souvlaki on the square in aid of the local lads football team...run by the dads and the lads wait on.......went to Rodos...Lindos and scuba diving in Anthony Quinn Bay....all very beautiful and well worth a visit... the local taverns provide a variety of drinks and entertainment or atmosphere...but then its back at the bar and the coctails are superb...the beer is cold and the ouzo.....well take care it hits you unaware....then Akis and Stavros entertained us with tricks and laughs...then we had the dare night...beware not to get your own...then the greek night....plenty of food and the dancing was excellant...before curling up in bed...when asked about the planes.....did not notice them after the first night...can thouroughly recommend this family run place...wish them all the best and we will be back to try it all again.....efharisto!!!
Had a great time...
We arrived at the hotel at 3.30am and the barman (Akis) was very friendly and showed us to our room. The hotel is very relaxed and everyone was very friendly, even the night watchman who doesn't speak English. The rooms are clean although some days the cleaner did forget to leave towels and toilet rolls. The aircraft noise is quite loud but you get used to it after a day or two. The pool is lovely, just the right size for a quick dip to cool off. In the evening the bar can be quite lively, this is mainly due to the barman providing everyone with shots of Ouzo at regular intervals! Kremasti as a place is nice, it is traditionally Greek and has plenty of restuarants and a few bars to choose from. In particular Zorba's, Grande Classico, Romeo (rooftop restaurant) and the Grill House behind the library were lovely. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, couples and families. If you're looking for a lively holiday it may not be the place for you though.
Homefrom home - a real gem of a place - going again!
The Hotel Anseli is an extremely friendly, family-run aparthotel, set in a quiet part of the real working village/town of Kremasti. The family who run the place are supremely friendly and professional in their dealings with the clientele and run a clean, pleasantly appointed and highly recommended establishment! With only around 24 rooms, some small apartments and some studios, the scale of the place is very much 'small and friendly', with Tasos and Loula running the place with the aid of two of their three daughters (for whom the hotel is named!) and the barman, Akis (sp?) who is highly professional, superbly welcoming and a master of his trade. The food at the hotel is simple fare, with a mixture of Greek and international snacks on offer. The food was very well prepared and presented in a straightforward style with no frills but no problems either. This suited our little girl (11 yrs) who was able to specify the items she did and didn't want on her plate! Breakfast was pleasant, taken either inside or (as we chose) by the pool next to the orchard, oranges, lemons of course, which abutts the pool area. The aircraft noise is loud, make no mistake, but if you are on the pool side of the building you will not worry about ti unduly after a day or so. On the other side I can't say but the other people who were staying while we did had no problem with it. We received a call just before leaving England warning us of building noise in the vicinity - it turns out this was just a single house and we heard NO noise at all except when walking past the builders. DO NOT BE PUT OFF if you receive this call from your travel agent as it is a red herring!!! The Anseli had lost quite a lot of trade due to this error on the part of the agents and it seems most unfair on their business. Do not be fooled, at best a Greek builder might hammer a nail or two in per day! (No offence intended if you are a Greek builder by the way!) Close by in the village are many decent (and very reasonably priced) eateries of all kinds. The nearest is probably the family run 'Pelekanos' about 150m walk or so, which was top notch and very friendly indeed. A recommended dinner venue for you. Also excellent was Zorba's (original name eh?) which is the first place you find on the main street of Kremasti on the way from the Anseli. There were other good places we'd recommend including Grande Classico and the one on the rooftop overlooking the street whose name I can't recall, sorry! I don't think the town has a nightclub or anything approaching one, so if that's what you want Kremasti is not your town of choice! The Anseli has a small but very deep pool! There's even a diving board, but don't expect Olympic sized pool facilities here. It's an amenity rather than a main feature of the hotel - a nice place to be and 10' 10" deep at the deep end and about 3' at the shallow. There's also a tiny pool for tiny people. We arrived in the early hours and got a taxi from the airport costing 8 Euros. The approach through the back streets will make you wonder where on Earth you have come to but do not fear, for in the morning you will wake up (probably to the sunshine) and think things are not so bad after all! After a few days you will begin to realise what a gem you have found! Most (that's no exaggeration) of our fellow residents were repeat visitors, some having been to the Anseli up to fourteen years straight! Thsi should tell you something about the welcome you can expect - people don't do that and remain so loyal without an excellent reason. The reason is that the Anseli is one of those rare finds; a small, friendly, genuinely family-run hotel in a real Greek town (large village really), not a holiday resort as such. It's the real deal. The beach is sand and pebbles but this side of the island is not the best for bathing - although it's excellent for kite surfing and windsurfing. You'll be able to watch them virtually every day from Tasos place on the beach - much less strenuous I found. Our other experiences and recommendations in brief: Beach - Tsampika Beach, one of the best I have ever found. 35 Euros in a taxi from Kremasti or hire a car! Rhodes Old Town - Spectacular - a MUST see - take at least a full day and perhaps evening too. Lindos - as above! Can do it in half a day max. Filerimos - beautiful - highly recommended to visit and make sure you climb the cross for the view! We enjoyed Rhodes and Kremasti was a good centre for touring around or simply lazing by the pool etc.. It was our first time on Rhodes and we intend to go back again in October (not something we normally do, visiting the same place twice) and we aim to stay at the Anseli again - it was a special place and we may just be saying that after OUR fourteenth time! Hotel Anseli and the family did us proud. Thanks a million!
anseli supping
Hi, great people at the Anseli, good pool for the kids and the location not bad either. All in all we had a nice time there and would go again. The only problem (but did'nt bother us) was aircraft noise.
2nd Home
The place is like a second home to me, with Lula and Tassos as my extended family. You cannot fault the amazing cooking or the spotlessy clean rooms. For 7 Euros a day you can even have the added luxury of air con! If there are any problems then it is mainly from the other guests who are bored, not realising........ you come to this hotel to RELAX. There are no banging nighclubs or rowdy teenagers..... it is utter bliss!
Home from Home
My husband and I, like many other families and couples stay at the Anseli each year. We feel that the travel advisor has undersold the Anseli. This is a family run hotel and Lula's food is excellent, my husband will tell you that, but they are also there for families. Children are made to feel welcome with warmth and not just for any other motive. Our five year old grandson misses going there and gets upset when he can't come. The locals have the time to say hello and there is a great choice of foods and pubs. The transport is easy, the taxis are close by, the bus every 20 minutes and not too many tourist shops!! It is a small village that has maintained a great deal of its village life, thank goodness. The Anseli is for everyone, you get use to the planes after approximately 2 days and never notice them.
Discover the REAL Greece
If you are looking for a relaxing, traditional Greek holiday, then look no further. The Anseli is located in the quiet, unspoilt resort of Kremasti on the island of Rhodes. It is the overwhelmingly friendly atmosphere at the hotel that leaves you feeling that you've known the owners all your life. Being a family-run hotel, Lula, the proprietress, will cook you anything you ask for (and my word, it's good!) and Terry the barman, periodically gets you singing rousing Greek songs. Every Sunday there is a Greek night, where local dancers come in and perform. Then it's your turn: great fun to be had, although try not to break your shoes in the process, as I did! The only drawback to the hotel is the fact that there is alot of aircraft noise, as it is located practically on the flightpath into the airport (a few miles further south). Although during the day, it is not too bad, at night many of the charters arrive and it can get rather noisy. However, we knew this beforehand and you quickly stop noticing it. Kremasti beach (although slightly pebbly) is never overcrowded, and the water is a gorgeous shade of turquoise. There are no tacky tourist shops on the beach and you can even pick up a nice meal for under £3! ($5). The village of Kremasti itself is also well-stocked for restaurants, catering to all requirements. Access to other parts of the island is easy, as local bus passes through every 20 minutes. I would definitely recommend a trip to the beautiful, medieval Rhodes Town. The boat trip to Lindos (departing from Rhodes Town harbour) is also excellent - you have fantastic views of the coastline on the way down, and the scenery at Lindos it simply stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Anseli, and it has actually made me consider returning there again next year. Quite a feat, given my mission to see as much of the world as possible by never going to the same resort twice!
