Stefanos Studios

Arriving at the airport in the early evening - we were lucky to have hired a car in the UK which was waiting for us when we arrived as finding the apartments was virtually impossible as there was no signage up to indicate where they were - we were directed there by asking local businesses
The studio was very basic and certain facilities were not available e.g. no microwave and the room fan was not working - there were only a few plug sockets some of which were hanging off the wall - the bathing area was not the cleanest and the shower was virtually useless - it did not maintain water warmth or pressure
The pool area was very nice though a tropical-type downpour on one of the days filled the pool with run-off from the elevated ground behind the apartments which made the pool un-useable for the rest of our stay - the area leading up to the steps of the apartments were also covered in mud and was not cleaned away
Sadly I cannot recommend these apartments though the setting was very nice (as long as you have a car and don't mind barking dogs disturbing your sleep)Kefalonia however is a beautiful island with breathtakingly dramatic landscapes

The studios are lovely, spacious and clean. Each has a big balcony and a small kitchenette with a hob and fridge.
The owners are very friendly and happy to help out (extra kitchen utensils, directions, recommendations, they'll go out of their way to make your stay pleasant.
There is also a very nice pool.
Do hire a car! All the sights, beaches and shops are far apart from each other and there's very little you can reach on foot from the appartments -one small minimarket and an uninviting restaurant opposite the airport.
Several lovely beaches are a short drive away, Ammes, Ligia, Heli and Avithos can be reached in 10 minutes by car.
Great restaurants in Lakithra, try Obelix and Byron's, a short drive up the hill.
Kefalonia is a beautiful island with many natural and historic sights worth seeing.

My lovely girlfriend and I spent a pleasant week at the Stefanos Studios in Svoronata on Kefalonia in August '09.
The studios are just up the road from the airport - if offered optional transfers as part of your deal DO NOT TAKE THEM! It would cost a maximum of five euros in a taxi - in fact I'm pretty sure Stefanos would pick you up if you gave him a call.
Despite this proximity to the airport the direction of take-off and landing means there is very little disturbance. There are no night flights, and, indeed, daytime flights are few and far between.
Svoronata is a quiet village, thus there is maybe only 4 or 5 eating/drinking establishments within 20 minutes walking distance - and I walk quickly. There is, however, a snack bar at the studios, by the pool, and, in concurrance with most of the other signatories of the guest book, the pizzas they make there are the best in the area... dammit, the best on the island!
The studios themselves are neat and tidy, amply furnished and kitted out. Each has a coast-facing balcony, and if on the upper floor you MAY be fortunte enough to be able to see the sea.
Stefanos and his brother-in-law George deserve extra mention for being exceedingly genial hosts; nothing was too much trouble. They didn't mind taking us into town on their morning market-trips, and gave some other guests a lift to the beach on occassion.
The beaches: The studios are centrally located between two beaches, Minie's beach and Ames beach both being approximately a 25 minute walk away, then other beaches are slightly further.
So, unless you enjoy a bit of a walk in the sunshine, or are looking for a holiday away from it all, then you may find yourself struggling without a car. Deals in Lassi seemed to be around 95 euros for a vehicle for 3 days; it may be worth looking online to find cheaper.
Be aware that there is another property in the Lassi area called Stefanos Studios which is a lot more centrally located and will appear in your searches.

We had a great time in Stefanos' 1 bedroom apartment which is situated under Stefanos' house. The apartment was extremely spacious and very clean. Although it was advertised as having a microwave, toaster and kettle these things were not in the apartment. There was a two ring cooker and oven which conked out on the last but one day. But Stephanos imediately went out an bought a new one. He and his family are extremely hospitable and kind. The pool was great and although there are 8 studio apartments we had the pool mostly to our selves. We would not hesitate to stay here again as it was a great base and in the center of the island. Even though it was close to the airport you hardly notice the planes. Noise was very minimal. Top holiday. We'll be back.
