Once you have finished reading Jenny's review, full of sour memories as it is, let me update you the sweet facts of present time: Hotel Palmiye is a gem. My 21 years old of age daughter had a most enjoyable stay in August 2009 due to the absolutely great and good service delivered by the fantastic staff who ALL made our stay a memorable one.
I have in this lifetime stayed in more hotels than I care to remember, and what makes Palmiye Otel absolutely and outstandingly unique is its management's and staffs' great blend of politely professionalism mixed with a courteously conduct resulting in an always relaxed and friendly approach and attitude to all duties and situations arising, be they great or small. We always felt tremendously welcome, safe and AT HOME! Last but not least: The rooms were cleaned each and every day. No problemos!

don't choose this hotel

I would definitely not recommend this hotel. The manager had a scary look and was flirting a lot with the guests. The staffs were all the time looking at you and were very flirtatious with the other guests i know and with my company as well. I found this very irritating since all we needed was a peaceful holiday. There were signs everywhere that it's forbidden to buy food and drinks from the nearby market. The rooms were filthy, carpets on the floor were very moist and smelled awful. We had to beg for toilet papers and the towels were hard like sand papers. Overall, i will never come bact there.

DO NOT GO SELF CATERING AT THIS...
1 / 10
Sep 2008, Ms Marlene Wılks

DO NOT GO SELF CATERING AT THIS HOTEL. BELIEVE ME YOU WILL BE COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED. TURN IT DOWN IMMEDIATELY THE NAME OF THIS HOTEL IS MENTIONED.
We arrived and almost burst into tears at the basicness of this hotel. There is no kettle no toaster no microwave. Self catering is the last thing they cater for - believe me.
Talking to other people who were self catering they didnit even have a fridge!!! or a hotplate some of us were lucky and had a hot plate which took about 30 minutes to boil enough water to manage to make a cup of tea!!!!
There are notices everywhere telling you that you are not to bring food or drink from outside into the hotel - hey we are self catering what are we supposed to do?
Talk about basic ( I had read some of the reports on the site before I came but thought they were being ridiculous - they were not.
The bedroom had two SINGLE BEDS - not what we envisaged for a fortnights holiday - wheres the romance in that and we even had a single bed in the so called Kitchen. And when I say the bedroom had two single beds that is exactly what I mean - just two single beds no bedside cabinet no table lamp no NOTHING just the beds thats it!!!!!
The toilet was to say the least disgusting and you are not to put ANY toilet paper down in the bowl as this will block the system you have to put it into a bin beside the toilet!!!!!
There was no hot water so even after 12 hours in this [--] pit we couldnt have a proper wash let alone a shower. There are no plugs to the sinks so you men could have a problem shaving if you cant fill thje bowl up with water - firstly because you cant get any hot water and secondly because it is all going down the plug hole.
There is a SMALL wardrobe no cupboard space basically nowhere to put your belongings - in fact after 24 hours I havent even had the incentive to empty my suitcase.
This cost us as much as what a 4*/5* does in other countries all inclusive where all food and drink are included and here we still have to buy our food on top of what we paid for flight and accomodation. For instance a bacardi cost 9 turkish lira (4.50) The shop right outside sells water for 5 turkish lira whereas 100 yards down the road at the 101 supermarket it cost 2.30turkish lira - more than twice the price - they are here to just con you out of money left right and centre
The air conditioning cost 40 pounds a week on top of the extortionate amount that you have already paid.
When speaking to other people booked in for self catering there comments will be exactly the same - and most of us after 24 hours hadnt even had the incentive to have a wash and they didnt even know that there wasnt any hot water
DO NOT COME TO THIS HOTEL UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE COMPLETELY DISILLUSIONED - obviously I cannot speak about people in the hotel who are not self catering but the brochure does not tell the truth and I will definitely be avoiding at great lengths in the future that has GOLDTRAIL beside the information because their criteria of what a hotel should offer is not in any way even close to what I expect to find.
Take no notice of what you read in the brochure about the beach being across the road it is at least a 15 minute walk from the hotel.
I apologise for any strange letters in this text but I am using a Turkish computer where some of the letters are apparently different from ours even though they might show the same on the keyboard.
PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DISAPPOINTED

I have to say I was dubious after...

I have to say I was dubious after reading all the reviews for Palmiye. I have just returned after spending a week there and I have to say that I had a great time. Our room wasn't massive, but there was plenty of room for the two of us. Our room was cleaned and our sheets and towels changed every day. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help you if you needed it. Yes, it's basic, but where isn't in places like Turkey and Greece? I suppose it depends on what kind of holiday you're looking for, if you want to stay in the hotel by the pool for the whole holiday and miss out on all that Side can offer, then yes, I can understand why some people might not like Palmiye. But for those who like to get out and about easily, eat in great Turkish restaurants whilst watching the Sea Turtles, walk around ancient ruins, venture in the mountains on a jeep safari where you visit the waterfalls, mosque etc, then Palmiye is perfect.
(If you do go to Palmiye, you definately have to stay in for the Turkish Night, I usually find these things quite tacky but I thought it was brilliant!)

This is a self catering apartment hotel. The hotel has got new owners this year and it has changed for the better. Amanda and Serkan are fantastic they can't do enough to help you. They also have a restuarant in town called uncles it is one of the most popular resturants in town if not the best the staff and food is amazing the staff are so friendly they will take you anywhere you need to go if you can't find something i truly beleve that is why people come back to the palmiye and uncles every year like us.
There is a fridge; kettle; cooking ring; hair dryer; tv with satalite in the rooms so don't pack any of that.
hope you have a great time we always do and will be back again in september thanks everyone at palmiye and uncles you are the best

I have stayed in many 2* hotels in...
2 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs P Dif

I have stayed in many 2* hotels in Turkey and I'm afraid to say I have never been in one as dirty as this! The hotel is basic, which is to be expected and for us is not a problem, but we didn't expect things to be broken and in such appalling condition.
We had to change our room twice!
On arrival at the hotel at 6am, after a delay and very tired, we then discovered our room was not ready as people were still in it until midday, I believe this double booking happened as routine.
The air conditioning is very overpriced compared to other regions of Turkey at about £40 a week! I do firmly blame Goldtrail for most of the problems and their dreadful, unhelpful rep who was only concerned with telling us about her life and the fish and chip shop her boyfriend was opening down the road. She showed a deep lack of understanding and care for her clients.
The staff at Palmiye were mainly delightful, particularly Susanne and I felt that a lot of the problems were down to lack of money and investment in the hotel which left them trying to appease upset customers on a daily basis.

Food at the hotel was generally very good.
Onur air are absolutely terrible with very rude staff and airplanes that feel like they are falling apart, the noise coming from the engine was quite terrifying!

Stayed in the Palmiye for 2 weeks, staff were very unfriendly, apartments were filthy. The towels were like sand paper, sheets were not changed for over a week. £40 for air con per week!!!
No kids entertainment, no sun umbrellas!! Adult entertainment once a week, swimming pool wasn’t cleaned out of the 2 weeks I was there.
Overall very dirty!! Would not recommend this to anyone!!!!

Just got back from Palmiye Hotel this...
4 / 10
Aug 2007, Miss D Broad

Just got back from Palmiye Hotel this month which I found very accommodating. Everything was clean and the staff were extremely friendly and nice.
The biggest complaint I have on the holiday is "Goldtrail" themselves. We booked self catering accommodation as I always use this board basis and they had conveniently double booked people into the self catering rooms. We had a fight on our hands with the Goldtrail Rep. She was horrid and very unhelpful. Nearly reduced me to tears at the poolside in front of others guests and proceeded to tell several of the guests. "What do you expect, you have booked into Goldtrails cheapest hotels".
Goldtrail also advertise that the hotel is within 800m of Side centre. It is more like 2km to the centre so please bare that in mind if anyone has any difficulties in walking that distance.
I have complained to Goldtrail as regards the double booking guests, as yet I have NOT received a reply and have even been told that the Palmiye is being taken over by Thomsons next year. Good job too!
Lovely hotel but let down by the tour operator.

Paid £200 for a week, transfers,...
8 / 10
Jun 2007, Mr M Smith

Paid £200 for a week, transfers, in-flight meal and insurance included in price through gold trail.
Rooms were simple and small, but were kept clean on a daily basis. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Breakfast same every day, (delicious crusty bread, feta cheese, olives, tomato, jams, tea, coffee, apple tea). Ate a few times in hotel restaurant and food was fine - prices very cheap.
Pool was great, though could do with parasols around pool (sun-loungers available)
Area was lovely - some great beaches and attractions to visit and locals all friendly (though very pushy salesmen) local restaurants all cheap, beer very cheap, spirits and soft drinks slightly more expensive.
All in all, a great value budget holiday, would definitely go again.

Very good hotel, for the money. Paid...

May 2007, Mr J Hussain

Very good hotel, for the money. Paid £130. BB. 1 week. Through a local travel shop. Tour operator was Goldtrail.
THE HOTEL: is about a 10 minute walk from the beach, 15 minutes from the ruins and main shopping or a 3 minute ride on the dolmus costing 1 lira (40p) followed by a tractor ride costing 0.50 Lira (20p)
ROOMS: Small, but adequate, clean and maintained every day, balcony. No fridge or kettle (not a prob. we sat at bar and took our own green tea, they gave us hot water)
POOL: it has a good sized swimming pool. A small bar. The staff are very friendly. Staff: ISA is the head of staff I think.
RESTAURANT: we had food from their restaurant, as did other guests. Never a complaint, always comments of very nice meals. Try their Hot Pot, or Fish.
EAT OUT: don't miss out on the local cake shop, fantastic range of cakes and pasties and their so cheap, slice of cake cost around 3/4 Lira (£1.50). You can’t miss it 20 meters from hotel entrance across road.
EAT OUT: Also very nice family restaurant also cheap. Turn left as you step out of hotel and about 70 meters up the road on the left next door to a shop ( KUMRU Restaurant). Try their Kofte.
EXCURSIONS: we used an excursion company called (BABA BOOT) BOOT=BOAT. See Martin, Swiss guy with a black cap on near the bottom of the road as you walk down to the beach.
We went on the £10 Market trip. 2 hour at market, excellent chicken or fish lunch included on board, swimming stops and visit to the waterfall. Reasonable priced drinks on board. Take plenty of your own water. Cos it’s much cheaper to take your own.
I would recommend hotel.
Hope this helps, have a nice trip.
