800 metres from beach
Flora is located on the outskirts of the resort and is at least 800 metres fairly steep uphill from most facilities including the nearest beach which is of postage stamp size. Try walking from there at 2.30pm in 30 degrees sunshine ! You'll do it once ! The beach contains large rocks and is covered at high tide. It is suitable for divers who descend in shoals. All other beaches are reached by taxi or bus. Flora Apartments are adequate but would benefit from reinvestment. Internal repairs to plastering and skirting boards in my room was of third world standard. Cracks between wall and sofa-top was home to tiny harmless ants. External lamp was hanging unsecured on wall. Balcony furniture was of mixed colouring, old, stained and damaged. Our room (two adults)was clean and quiet facing the pool. Beware of the extemely noisy roadside apartments. Breakfast was good. Reception and dining room staff were very friendly and efficient. Pool area adequate but liable to get crowded due to distance from beaches.
Beware...horrible apartments ...dont go ..or stay //
Stayed At the Flora Apartments with little girl of two and partner ...Booked my holiday all year looking forward to the hotel ...got there and discovered my room was not ready .The staff left us to wait for 3Hhrs until they painted the room ..all electric switches were very dangerous and hanging out the wall .The bathroom was disgusting and the cleaners only clean when they feel like it ...Sometimes dont Change your towels for 5 days .The staff were very cheeky and never understood you .The Entertainment is crap ..They play bingo every nite with a small bingo board ..its like been in a school hall ...Also the entertainers are rubbish ..specially if they meet young people who they get friendly with as the entertainment if for ages 18-30 //This hotel is not for young families and dont understand why they advertise it like this ....The pool area is very slippy at the kids area and dirty at the adults area the pools never seems to get cleaned .the staff can be very cheeky and are only ok with you if you are throwing money at them every two secs for drink ...pablo the entertainer is very unexperienced and the music is very loud drowning ...the hotel is situated on a big hill ..this is very slippy brae you have to walk every day down to the promenade. The hotel is very unclean and noisy all through the night until 2am ...this hotel is good for those who like partying but no way for young children ...half the time the bar is very empty and there was nothing but trouble in the bar area every night with security on the door .It a awful hotel and also the bus times are very irregular and dont come when they say they are .The resort is only handy for those who drive and also there is nothing to do here for kids .I wasted money on my holiday and would never go back .
Flora brill
Hubby and I stayed for a week 17 - 26 Sept 05 in Flora Studios (through brightly lit and pleasant tunnel under road from main complex). Studio small but ideal for a week's stay. Very clean and kept that way by lovely staff. Team of maintenance men on site at all times. Quite a lot of school age children staying in main complex which was a suprise but nice and quiet and peaceful at the studios - pool lovely but there is no shallow end if you just want to cool off without exertion!! Quite a hill into town but good exercise if you are up for it. Nice little German pub on way up. German beer lovely. Would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Flora. Watch out for boat trip to Fuertaventura - its a complete rip off.
Pretty good but needs a little review on service
The Flora is better than most I have stayed at in the Canaries, clean, tidy and modern. The only down side is the grumpy blonde German receptionist (others make up for her). She thinks customers are a nuisance. A real failing is that no one picks up glasses from round the pool resulting in the inevitable nasty cuts. Other than that it is value for money
entertainment
My wife and i stayed at the Flora with my 9 year old girl. The room was on the main road which was a bit noisy, however very clean and tidy, we think better and quieter rooms in Flora2 across the road. The entertainment team were not that good the first week and many of the children had to rely on me to do my dance, which mums, dads and kids loved. The shows at night were not to bad but some are more designed for the adults. Siad in the disco bar was brilliant and also Cristobal in the main bar area. The pool in Flora1 was crowded and sometimes a little dirty, but not a problem in the pool on the Flora2 side. On the whole a really good holiday and we would go back even just to say hi to all the excellent staff, including the hotel director Pepe and his family, who did everything to help us have an enjoyable holiday.
wouldnt stay again
Just back from the flora apartments after a 2 week holiday and I wouldnt stay again. Stayed in a studio as my boyfriend and i usually do but the studios in the flora are Tiny! They have bad security, only a small window and no real terrace. The complex itself is very beautiful with a lot of amenites and has 2 lovely pools, this does stand in its favour. Nowhere in the description of the hotel does it mention the huge hill that you have to climb daily either. My parents stayed in the new town at the same time as us and after seeing their accomadation that they payed less for I was gutted! Shop around!
Ideal for Relaxation
We stayed in the Bungalows across the road from the main building (accessed by a tunnel) and they were idyllic. This place is paradise for anyone who wishes to laze around a quiet pool a million miles away from crowded beaches and nighclubs (this is possible in early May anyway). The heart of the resort is close but Puerto del Carmen's harbour is even closer. The fish restaurants around it are ideal for an insight into the real Spain. The Flora is located on a hill away from the resort so it won't suit everone. The view from the top of this hill is spectacular. I especially liked the way the complex is laid out-it is very unusually as are the cages of Canary birds at the entrance to the bar. This place proves that the New Town is certainly not always the bast place to stay.
Child Free Area
The perfect location for a winter break. We were self-catering but in the Old Town down by the harbour there is an excellent choice of restaurants. All of them are reasonably priced, serve good food and have an excellent ambience. The main centre of Puerto is a bit grotty and has plenty of tatty shops. It is only a short taxi ride away and costs about £3. However, there is an excellent shopping mall just up from The Old Town We visited the Flora in late November so there no children about. The pool area is excellent and as there were no children it was blissfully quiet. The bar at the pool serves reasonable snacks and drinks. The public areas of the complex are well maintained and the staff are very freindly. The staff at the Reception are excellent. The rooms are a bit basic but are well maintained. Thoroughly recommend.
Excellent time at the Flora Apartments
Just got back from the Flora Apartments 1/11/04 weather great around 30c in the day and around 22c at midnight when we were getting in, had 2 very light showers in the morning near the end of our break and one heavy shower one evening while out. The apartments are very spacious one bedroom and have an L shaped sofa in the living area suitable for kids. The maids came in most days and changed the towels and bedding was changed twice while we wer there. Excellent service from the handymen around the complex when we reported the electrics out caused by a blown bulb somebody was with us in less than 15 minutes. We were in room 109 which is ground floor by the pool which was excellent to be able to nip back to the room whenever we needed anything. The pool area is quite large and there are plenty of beds to go around, the pool varies in depth from 0.9m to 1.9m with a separate pool for small kids. The only problem with the pool area was that around the pool was painted white and when this was wet it became very slippery and quite a few kids fell over. We were s/c so i don`t know what the food was like in the restaurant but there are plenty of places to eat in Puerto Del Carmen. The apartments are at top of a steep hill but about halfway up the hill is The Purple Turtle which is an ideal stopping off point for a rest and a cold drink, they also have some good acts on and will stay open as long as people are buying drinks. Overall I would say these are excellent apartments in a quiet location but not too far away from a range of shops and bars.
Proper Beltaz!
Hiya, i went to the flora apartments in lanzorate recently and found they were brilliant, the entertainment especially, very clean, not too far away from clubs or restaurants and not far from the beach, hill isnt that bad, but taxis are cheap enough!!!!! GO........!
