The apartments...
For families and couples this is a fantastic complex. They call it apartments but its much more than that...The reception area is impressive for med type apartments and is manned 24 hours a day with staff who are pleasant and speak excellent English (and German from what I could make out). The rooms are basic but clean and ours was serviced (new sheets and towels) 3 times in a week. We had a studio apartment with a balcony overlooking the pool (and sea in the distance), which was equipped with a patio table and 4 chairs. The front room has built in seating and easily has enough room for 6 adults to sit (and two to sleep at night). The kitchen is basic and has an oven and double hob, kettle, cutlery, pots, pans plates and cups/glasses - plenty for a family of four (although you will need to wash up regularly). You don’t get a hair dryer, iron, toaster or fan (and there is no air-con) but they are all available to hire from reception. Definitely hire a fan (about 24 EURO a week or you can buy one in town for 24 Euro and then sell it to a new arrival the following week!) There is a telephone in the room and a TV (which is chargeable) which has BBC World, Cartoon Network, CNN, Sky Sports 1, Sky Movies and lots of other European channels.
The bedroom has two single beds and a good size built in wardrobe. There is also a safe, which you will need to hire the key to use. The bathroom has a toilet and bidet, small (very!) bath and a reasonable shower. The water was always hot.
The weather is very hot in the summer so I suggest you ask for a 1st floor studio so that you can pick up the breeze (sitting in with the main door and patio doors over was very cool) it also ads to privacy and security.
There is daily entertainment by the pool for kids and then for adults and they also have pool and darts competitions as well as bingo from time to time. There is a pool bar, which closes around 6 and then seems to re-open about 8 until around 10. There is also a “nightclub” (in a loose sense of the word), which stays open later. Other than some people being rowdy around the pool late (which reception sorted pretty quickly) it is quiet at night. Given that it is mainly a couples and family place there was no trouble and everyone was very friendly.
There is a well stocked shop (not cheap so use one of the supermarkets about 5 mins walk down the hill) and the pool is clean and safe. There is a kids club during the day and several pool tables, amusement machines, TV room and table tennis table to keep you sweating even when the sun goes down.
Finally - if you are on a lads holiday or want to sit out on the balcony late at night having a laugh and making a little noise I would choose another place - its not that the hotel are particularly fickle but its very quiet at night and you would feel uncomfortable to I would suggest a place closer to town where those you might keep awake would be doing the same anyway.
It is around 20 minutes walk to the beach and nightlife - downhill on the way there and uphill on the way back. There is a coach to the beach if you travel with some companies (not with Cosmos) but a taxi is only 3 Euro each way so I wouldn’t walk if you can help it. There are several nice restaurants within 10 minutes walk if you want to stay local and the fishing port is really pleasant and if you like fish you will love it. However, once again - single groups out for dancing and “mingling” you would need to go into town.
The resort...
The main beach is 20 mins walk (take a cab as above) and has a fantastic and very clean beach with loads and loads of beds and parasols (8 Euro a day for both). The sea does have a modest undercurrent so stick close to your kids when they are in the sea. It’s relatively shallow for quite a way and nice and sandy. There are loads and loads of shops selling the usual from tourist tacky stuff to local arts. There are also loads and loads of bars and restaurants - possibly a mile worth in total. Restaurants seem to close about 11.30 and the main bars stay open past 4am (that’s when I went back and they were still going). Once again - very much a family and couples resort so if you are looking for singles I would say try another place, there are some singles but not many. We went out every night for a week and saw no trouble at all - not a single raised voice! There are many Irish in this resort as well as Germans and Spanish from the mainland and they all get on well and are really laid back so I wouldn’t imagine there is any trouble.
For bars get into a taxi and head to Atlantico - the mains ones seem to be there. There are a few night clubs but I never went to any so I cant comment on them.
There is a Linekers Bar and they show Sky Sports (football etc) and also had the Ashes, which was on C4. You can also catch Emmerdale in some places!
Taxi’s seems to be cheap everywhere and “happy hour” is rife - 2 for 1 on drinks but note that its not the cheapest place on the planet - a beer will cost between 2 and 4 Euro depending on when and where you go. Vodka & Red Bull is around 5 to 7 Euros.
A starter seems to be 4 to 8 Euros and a main course 7 to 12 Euros pretty much everywhere. I would recommend going to Timanfaya volcano and national park and also going on the Catlanta Catamaran trip at around 65 Euro. Car hire is cheap (around 32 Euro up to 75 euro a day) so think twice before paying out for trips - you might just want to make a note of the best ones and then hire a car - you can do the main things in a day.
All in all I would very much recommend both the apartments and the resort and will definitely come back (probably with my kids next time). For a family or romantic break the Flora apartments are perfect. The resort is not that lively for singles but again perfect for everyone else. We flew with Cosmos on a Monarch flight - nice staff, very friendly and the flight was on time both ways (might just have been a fluke though!)
The Cosmos staff were very good and the trip from the airport to the Flora took all of 10 minutes. The flight time from UK is around 3 3/4 hours and the time zone is the same (or at least it is in the summer). The island does get cloud from time to time but you can still get burnt and it does have a nice breeze (I’ve been a couple of times so its not just a one off observation - plus others who live there said the same)
All in all 8 out of 10 for both the resort and the hotel

Just back after 2 week stay with my boyfriend and I wouldn’t stay here again.
We had a studio apartment and it was TINY!! I mean really small for a studio! There was no real terrace, only a small window inside the studio and absolutely no privacy.
The door to our room was really old and we didn’t feel very safe and it was just a small door, not even a patio.
The hill to the apartment isn't that steep but it is really long.
The old town is beautiful and there are some lovely restaurants by the harbour all reasonably priced.
For the money we paid for our accommodation I was upset with the standard. My parents stayed in the new town and their apartment was 20 times better than ours and we paid more!
The pools are great and the bars and other areas were lovely too.
One last thing and trust me on this-put EVERYTHING valuable in the safe!

This was a great holiday, kids weren’t in the club but oldest said the guy who ran it was great! Hotel expensive compared to local shops for prices and drinks compared to other pubs.
Great for adults as well as children, shooting & dart competitions and water aerobics for the energetic. Only thing we were not amused at when the brochure says fully equipped kitchen and sat. TV. There is no kettle, toaster, etc.
It’s the basics. Cutlery, 2 pots. 4 cups, plates , bowls, egg cups. The TV. you can’t even use until you pay for it. A deposit of 12 euros, 3 euros a day, if u keep it for more than 3 its 2.50 a day. A toaster, kettle iron etc all have separate charges for the week. Fan also on hire for 16 Euros for the week. Take one with you in high season as you will badly need it.

This place is brilliant, in a peaceful location, I really could get away from it all here and relax by the pool although a little cold, still had amazing views of the sea. The service was really good, reception were helpful at all times. The entertainment was really good, especially the guy in charge of it all who made the evening enjoyable and fun.
Will be going back next year for sure!

My family and I have stayed at these apartments several times over the past few years and we range in age groups from18 months to 55. We have always found them to be clean tidy and all the staff make you feel very welcome the point mentioned about the children’s pool is justified my grandchildren often slipped.
The resort is fantastic and we are going back again this year as it’s a holiday that suits everyone. I went last year with a broken ankle and in a wheel chair and had no problems with access or getting out and about down town and once again the staff were extremely helpful once again would recommend these apartments to any one young and old. Watch the parrot show it’s really good.

This Holiday was the best holiday of my life so far. I and my boyfriend fully enjoyed Puerto Del Carmen for its sheer lovely beaches and the lively nightlife. It was every thing we wanted from a holiday and more.
The beach was about 10 mins from the apartments and the hill in which we were situated on is not as bad as everyone makes out. And plus if you don’t want to walk everywhere the cabs are REALLY cheap and are always about.
The local food is brilliant and if it’s an English meal you’re looking for then look no further than THE PURPLE TURTLE. It is a wonderful English run restaurant with a great atmosphere and some great entertainment at night times. Another great restaurant is located along the main strip it is called THE AMERICAN INDIAN CAFE and does a variety of meals from Sirloin Steak to Chicken Fajita’s.
All in all this is a holiday great for families and couples! It has everything you want from a holiday and more. It would definitely be somewhere I went again in the not to distant future!! Enjoy!!

Really nice clean hotel with two nice pools. The kiddie’s pool had a slope which was very slippery and a few children fell down this. The room was basic but very clean. Close to the town but the hotel is at the top of a hill and therefore hard work walking back from the beaches/town. The entertainment was o.k. and the kids enjoyed it although the bar staff could do with being a bit friendlier.

I booked this holiday at the last minute with my friend where I stayed at the Flora from 29th September - 13th October 2005. On arrival the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. The self catering 1 bed roomed apartment was very basic but very clean. There was a good spacious terrace for two people. The living room was ideal space just to crash out in. The kitchen area is perfect for cooking up snacks on the two hobs although not much storage for food so we had to make do with the unit shelves that the television sat on.
There is a fridge/with freeze compartments which did keep everything chilled. A kettle and toaster was provided. All other appliances such a fan/televisions remotes etc all have to be rented out from reception with a deposit as well as paying approx 3 euros per day. This was the only criticism. The maids were very good in attending to you if you had any problems with apartments. (This also included opening a tin of ravioli as I couldn’t use the can opener!!!) Our apartment was in front of a children’s play park but I would advise not to leave patio doors open as there are lots of kitty cats who tended to wonder in to apartments.
The poolside is so clean and relaxing and the pool bar is handy for a cool drink or snack. The only trouble I had was find a sunloungers in the second week as there were lots of beach towels reserving them, although the hotel does state this is not allowed they did fail to control it.
The hotel entertainment was good and Patrick and Mar did do their utmost to provide such so I cannot fault that . The flora is situated at the top of a steep long hill in the quieter old town, but restaurants and bars are just across the road (you take your life in your hands when crossing don’t expect every car to stop at a zebra crossing) Best bar on this hill downwards has to be the Purple Turtle great atmosphere and entertainment (different act every night) staff are very friendly and chatty. When you walk to the bottom of this hill you reach a junction if you go right of this it will lead you to the harbour with the most excellent sea food dishes and fantastic se view for enjoying a meal. All restaurants are reasonably prices and worth every forkfill.
If you decide to turn left at the junction you have another (but not so steep) hill to climb that will take you towards the new strip. Again there are a nice selection of bars and Chinese Indian restaurants. At the top of this his is the Biosfera shopping centre cross the road to go down a hill and this will take you on to the new strip (it seems like a long walk but the nights are so pleasant it is nice to have a wee stroll it took us 15mins) There is plenty of choice for everyone depending on food you like/entertainment and plenty of "holiday tack shops" I would say careful of the electrical shops and get the best prices. (Haggling works in all shops so give it a try). For nightlife visit Titos Karaoke bar. Parallel to the strip is the beach which is wonderful and so clean to relax in especially since there is no charge for loungers.
The walk back up to the apartments is a bit more challenging as the steep hill slows you down but you hardly notice if you pop into each bar for one for the road. The reception is manned 24 hours a day and will offer you any help - Angela and Louis are two extremely nice folk.
We had to be out of out apartment by 12 noon unless we paid 30 euros to stay on until 7pm. Again this was not a problems as we could store out luggage in the safety lockup and we able to shower in the shower room - the staff even provided us with towels.
I would only advise not to use the excursions provided by the hotel as they are pricey. For example it was 12 euros to go to Teguise Market but a bus outside the apartments only cost 2,50 euros both ways. So hunt yourself. Other than that the apartments are ideally located very peaceful, easy access to get where you want, very clean constant security on site, and the staff very very friendly...I would go back again!!!
